USA - Upcoming Lexus RC Coupe Available in Striking New Red Paint Color

  • Upcoming RC Coupe Available in Striking New Red Paint Color
  • The Head-Turning Hue is Achieved Using a Combination of a Silver and Red Base
  • RC Coupe Set to Launch in 2014

Not even Rudolph’s nose can compare to the striking red paint on the all-new RC Coupe. A more dynamic red exterior paint color is made brighter and with more contrast thanks to an entirely new painting process, using a two-color base of both silver and red.  The shiny and bright RC coupe is set to launch in 2014.

The luminous red paint is achieved through a meticulous paint process using four base coats of paint which are then baked twice. Layers of coloured and clear coating are used to control some of the colours reflections and establish a balance between the brightness and depth – two elements that traditionally work against each other.

For the red exterior, the factory starts with a base coat of silver and then applies a clear coat.
Then, the clear coat is covered by a translucent red coat, which is then topped with another clear coat.
The four coats of paint are baked twice to set the colour.

As a result, light hitting the paint reflects off the red layer and also off the silver layer below, which adds depth and a metallic highlight to the red colouration.  Prior to this new, two-colour base process, the factory used base coats with the same colour tone (red and red).

The all-new RC Coupe was unveiled at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show and will be on display at the Lexus space at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Have a great 2014.

Snowboaring Paceman is a tradition for MINI

When the mountains call, MINI follows. As a global partner of Burton and official presenting partner of the Burton Global Event Series (BEGS), the carmaker will once again deliver plenty of course-side creativity and driving fun in 2014. Next stop in the snowboarding competition calendar is the Burton European Open (BEO), to be held from 13 to 19 January 2014 in the Swiss resort of Laax. More than 300 riders from around the world are expected to attend, including Swiss pro Christian (“Hitsch”) Haller and top women’s snowboarder Enni Rukajärvi of Finland. Amid the superpipe and the slopestyle course, a MINI Paceman will be showcased in a stunning creative rendering by Urban Art Illustrator Andreas Preis.

Wild thing. The MINI Paceman SNOW BEAST.

MINI ascends to dizzy heights once again to present another member of the MINI family in an original creative guise on Crap Sogn Gion in Laax. Last year it was the PirateArtCrew snowboard artists who unveiled an art installation featuring the MINI Countryman; this year Urban Art Illustrator Andreas Preis takes up the challenge to work his magic on a MINI Paceman. Preis is known for his striking designs as displayed, for example, on skateboards and snowboards. Using his expressive illustrative skills, the artist will take the MINI Paceman and turn it into a wild MINI Paceman SNOW BEAST in time for the start of the competitive event. It will have its first public airing against the backdrop of the Burton European Open snowboard competitions and in front of the C_ART container that will be periodically accessible to the public. With his perfectly executed, highly detailed and innovative illustrations, Preis – who shares his working time between Berlin and Barcelona – is the ideal match for MINI. A passionate snowboarder himself, he began his MINI Paceman SNOW BEAST project by selecting five heraldic animals that symbolise mountains and snow: the ibex represents ambition, the eagle vision, the lynx gracefulness, the wolf teamwork and the owl wisdom.

As well as lending his creative touch to the MINI Paceman SNOW BEAST, the artist will appear live on stage in the C_ART container designing Burton Custom Snowboards.

The MINI Feature Award. MINI pays tribute to the secret heroes of the mountains.

As well as being trained on the halfpipe category, all eyes at the Burton European Open and Burton US Open will also turn to the creative tricks executed on the slopestyle course. Here, the snowboarding elite wouldn’t even get off the ground were it not for the expertise of the shape teams responsible for constructing the obstacles on the pistes. The MINI Feature Award aims to bring the backstage heroes into the spotlight. Their task is to design the most innovative feature for the slopestyle contest – while creatively integrating a MINI at a lofty height. The team from Vail, Colorado (Burton US Open) headed by Elliot Cone will pit its skills against the team from Laax (Burton European Open) led by shape master Roger Heid in an exciting battle of creativity. Both teams will receive US$ 5,000 each to support their task. The panel of judges, comprising professional snowboarders, representatives from Burton, judges and media representatives, will announce the winning team at the end of the Burton US Open.

The Burton Global Event Series 2013/2014 presented by MINI.

One year, five events, four countries: the Burton Global Event Series began at the end of this year with the Burton High Fives in Wanaka, New Zealand and the Burton Rail Days in Tokyo, Japan. The Burton European Open in Laax will be followed by the Burton US Open. Qualifying for the latter will take place in Seven Springs, Pennsylvania from 31.1 – 2.2.2014 and the championship itself will be held in Vail, Colorado from 3.3 – 8.3.2014.

MINI is involved in action sports around the world through cooperation and sponsoring activities. As a partner of trend-conscious sports, MINI supports young and creative sports people and, in so doing, promotes the development of their sport. MINI has been the official presenting partner for the Burton Global Event Series since 2011.

USA - VW/AUDI sells 100,000 clean diesel in the USA in 2013.

Volkswagen Group of America reported today that it has sold 100,000 TDI® Clean Diesel vehicles from the Volkswagen and Audi brands this year. This is the first time it has reached this milestone in a calendar year. Volkswagen and Audi currently offer 12 different TDI Clean Diesel powered models in the United States.

Audi and Volkswagen pioneered TDI® Clean Diesel engines and, as a result, the Volkswagen Group of America is the current market leader in Clean Diesel. Today’s Clean Diesel engines deliver more torque, better highway fuel consumption and reduced CO2 emissions compared with equivalent gasoline engines. As a result, Audi and Volkswagen deliver remarkable performance and impressive fuel economy.

“Selling more than100,000 TDI Clean Diesel vehicles is a significant milestone for Volkswagen Group of America,” said Mark McNabb, chief operating officer, Volkswagen of America. “We’re excited to see the increasing numbers of customers able to enjoy the reliability, durability, fuel-efficiency and power of the clean diesel engine.”

“The past year has shown that American consumers clearly recognize the benefits of clean diesel TDI vehicles,” said Scott Keogh, President, Audi of America.  “They understand now more than ever that this is a technology delivering real answers to society’s concerns about fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions without compromises.”

More than 75 percent of the diesel engines sold in the passenger car and SUV segments in the United States can be found under the hoods of Volkswagen and Audi models. Ever since 1977, when Volkswagen first offered a diesel in the Rabbit, the company has sold more than one million cars and SUVs powered by these engines in this market. High-mileage, TDI® Clean Diesel Volkswagen models accounted for 21 percent of sales in November and 24 percent of sales year-to-date, the best year-to-date results on record.

In 2013, Audi showed it intends to remain at the forefront of clean diesel expansion in the U.S. by dramatically enhancing its lineup with the new Audi Q5 TDI, A6 TDI, A7 TDI and A8 TDI models. Those premium models joined the Audi Q7 SUV in the market, and next summer Audi will introduce its most fuel-efficient model, the all-new A3 TDI sedan.

The TDI models in the Audi and Volkswagen lineup deliver up to 30% better fuel economy and 12%-30% lower carbon dioxide emissions than gasoline engines and there is no need for driver behavior change except to move from one pump to the other and no need for big infrastructure changes.

Volkswagen offers Clean Diesel technology in seven different models, six of which get an EPA estimated fuel economy rating of 40 mpg or more on the highway. The models include the Beetle, Beetle Convertible, Golf, Jetta, Jetta SportWagen, Passat and Touareg.

AUDI to compete with three DTM Champions in 2014

  • Mattias Ekström and Timo Scheider are staying with Audi
  • Mike Rockenfeller competes as title defender
  • Head of Motorsport Dr. Ullrich: “Important pillars of our squad”

It’s been sealed: For the first time in DTM history, Audi will be competing with three DTM Champions in the 2014 season. Following Mike Rockenfeller (D/30), Mattias Ekström (S/35) and Timo Scheider (D/35) have been confirmed as drivers as well.

“I’m delighted that, alongside title defender Mike Rockenfeller, our two most successful DTM drivers also continue to be on board,” says Head of Audi Motorsport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich. “Eki and Timo have been important pillars of our DTM squad for years. They’re great guys, strong personalities, popular with the fans and perfect ambassadors for the four rings.”

Mattias Ekström is tackling an amazing 14th DTM season for Audi next year. From 2001 to 2003, he competed in the Abt Audi TT-R. Since 2004, the Swede has been an Audi factory driver. With 17 victories and two Champion’s titles (2004 and 2007) under his belt he is the most successful Audi DTM driver of all. “Audi has long become my second home,” says the Swede. “I’m fully motivated to battle for victories and Championship titles for Audi again in 2014.”

Timo Scheider joined Audi in 2006 and in his first season was immediately the best driver of a year-old Audi. In 2008 and 2009, he won the DTM, perfecting a title hat-trick for Audi. Audi has been the first and only automobile manufacturer to date to have clinched three DTM drivers’ titles in succession.

“The dream with Audi can continue,” says Timo Scheider, looking forward to his ninth season under the symbol of the four rings. “It’s been my wish to keep driving for Audi and it’s a nice feeling to continue to enjoy the brand’s trust after so many years. I’m hoping for us to have many more successful years together.”

For Dieter Gass, Head of DTM at Audi Sport, Ekström, Rockenfeller and Scheider are three important pillars in the title defence project. “As our two competitors are going to leave no stone unturned next year to challenge us for the title, we’ve got to be poised with a strong line-up that’s up to the challenge. Having three drivers in the squad who know how to win in the DTM gives us a good feeling. And the other five cockpits will be filled with strong drivers too.”

Stunning new Huracán from Lamborghini, a worthy Gallardo successor.

  • Innovative technology and absolute performance redefine the super sports car experience
  • Pure and powerfully dynamic design language
  • New V10 with 610 hp, acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, top speed of over 325 km/h
  • From January 2014: private preview events for qualified prospects

A new era is beginning for Automobili Lamborghini and the luxury super sports car segment: with the brand new Huracán Lamborghini is not only presenting the successor to the iconic Gallardo, but is also redefining the benchmark for luxury super sports cars in this segment.

With its pure and unique design, an innovative technology package, outstanding dynamics and excellent quality, the Huracán offers a super sports car experience on a whole new level. The Huracán combines absolute performance with easy-to drive road behaviour and both luxurious and sport-oriented finish. With the Huracán, Lamborghini is taking a big step into the future, and enhancing the brand's illustrious history with the next automotive legend.

Starting from January 2014 the Huracán will be the protagonist of over 130 private preview events in more than 60 cities throughout the world.

The Lamborghini Huracán will make its world public debut at the Geneva Motorshow 2014.

Name
With a total volume of 14,022 cars produced, the Lamborghini Gallardo has been the most successful Lamborghini ever and, in its ten-year lifecycle, lifted the Lamborghini marque to a whole new level. Its successor, the new Huracán, has been developed from scratch down to the very last detail and, like the Gallardo and most other Lamborghini models, derives its name from the world of
bullfighting. The fighting bull Huracán of the Spanish Conte de la Patilla breed was known for his outstanding courage and strong sense of attack. He fought in Alicante in August 1879, showing his unrelenting character and remaining defiant and invincible, thus entering into the legend of fighting bulls' history.

Design
The new Huracán revolutionizes the design language of the Gallardo and is pure in its lines: precise technology and top level craftsmanship meet an audacious design with sharp edges, monolithic and sculptured volumes and precise surfaces. The starting point is the silhouette of the Huracán, born out of the desire of creating an automobile, whose profile is defined by only one line that merges the front with the cockpit and the rear of the car. The lateral windows come together to create a hexagonal form inserted like a glass jewel in the car's profile.

Also by night is the Huracán unmistakably a Lamborghini. Not only are the main headlamps equipped with full LED illumination, but all other light functions also feature state-of-the-art LED technology as a standard feature for the first time in the segment.

Interior
The interior is dominated by an innovative cockpit. A 12.3 inch full-color TFT instrument panel delivers all car information to the driver, from rev counter to navigation maps and infotainment functions, and can be configured by the driver in different setups. Fine Nappa leather and Alcantara distinguish the interior, with several color combinations offered to ensure broad individualization options. The design of dashboard and central tunnel underline a new lightness in the interior. Superb craftsmanship guarantees the highest quality and sense of luxury throughout.

Chassis and powertrain
Systematic lightweight design and Automobili Lamborghini's extensive expertise in carbon fiber come together in the Huracán's new hybrid chassis -- an integrated structure of carbon and aluminum elements. With a dry weight of 1,422 kg it enables not only the excellent power-to-weight ratio of just 2.33 kilograms per horse power, but also guarantees race-car precision with
outstanding stiffness.

The new 5.2 liter V10 engine delivers a maximum power of 448 kW / 610 HP at 8,250 rpm and a maximum torque of 560 Nm at 6.500 rpm. In the new ''Iniezione Diretta Stratificata'' (IDS), direct and indirect gasoline injections are smartly combined. This results in more power and torque with lower fuel consumption and emissions compared with the Gallardo V10 engine. The top speed of over 325km/h and the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and to 200 km/h in 9.9 seconds only partially describe the dynamic experience at the wheel of the Huracán. Also thanks to the Stop & Start technology, the combined EU consumption figure has been further reduced to 12.5 liters per 100 km (290 g/km CO2 emissions). The engine complies with EU6 emissions regulation.

Driving dynamics
The power of the V10 engine is brought to the road via the new 7-speed dual clutch transmission ''Lamborghini Doppia Frizione'' (LDF) and fully electronically controlled four-wheel drive system. The different driving modes of the Huracán can be selected via a driving dynamics selector switch in the steering wheel -- from traction-oriented on the road to extreme performance on the race track, with three setups of the dynamics system: STRADA, SPORT and CORSA. The different modes ensure extensive modification in road behavior of the Huracán. In particular they influence the set-ups of several systems, such as the gearbox and engine behavior, the sound, the four-wheel-drive system and electronic stability control. The Huracán's carbon-ceramic brakes are a standard feature for consistently superb braking performance. The ''Lamborghini Dynamic Steering'' variable steering ratio system and magneto-rheologic suspension damper control are both available as options for further customization of the Huracán's dynamic behavior. They are also calibrated via the three different dynamic set-ups.

The Huracán is produced at the Automobili Lamborghini headquarters in Sant'Agata Bolognese on an entirely newly-equipped production line. Delivery to the first customers is planned for spring 2014.

Stunning Citroen DS 5LS for China only - please reconsider.

  • Citroën unveils DS 5LS for Chinese market
  • Set to be a key player in the expansion of the DS brand, DS 5LS is a luxury saloon model
  • Comfort and styling are key, as DS 5LS boasts new DS 1955-inspired front end

Citroën has today unveiled the latest addition to its DS line – DS 5LS. Presented to the international press at the Carrousel du Louvre, one of Paris’s most iconic landmarks, DS 5LS is a luxury saloon which will go on sale in China in March 2014.

The second DS model to be produced at the Chinese Shenzhen plant, DS 5LS marks a further step in the development of the DS brand in this key market, as well as being a major factor in DS line’s on-going international expansion.

Elegant and sophisticated in terms of styling and lines (L: 4.70m x W: 1.84m x H: 1.50m), DS 5LS features all the hallmarks of the DS range, with some new additions.

The luxury saloon introduces DS’s new front end – a design inspired by the Numero 9 and Wild Rubis concept cars. This, together with a prestigious, sculpted grille, named ‘DS Wings’ – a nod to DS of 1955 – and boomerang-shaped Daytime Running Lights, creates a dynamic and distinctive look.

The profile of DS 5LS is both understated and refined; it boasts an elegant silhouette, thanks to a signature chrome side trim, extending from the windows to the boot. This chrome trim traces a subtle shark fin shape across the rear side panel, a typical style feature of DS models.

The dynamism of DS 5LS is further enhanced by a wide-track stance, combined with large wheels. Unique LED lamps, which offer a 3D accent thanks to a chrome ring inset within the glass, add to the saloon’s striking rear end.

Sophistication is the theme within the cabin, with an emphasis on luxury materials, such as metal, wood and leather. DS 5LS features quality leather fittings throughout the cabin to ensure a pleasurable driving experience for driver and passengers alike and this is highlighted by the “watch strap” design of the seats – a signature feature of DS models and a perfect illustration of quality French craftsmanship.

DS 5LS is as comfortable as it is stylish; boasting the longest wheelbase in the C segment (2.71m), the luxury saloon is a class leader in on-board comfort. With massaging front seats, airliner-style headrests, rear seats inclined at a 29° angle, an air ioniser and an advanced stereo system, driver and passenger comfort is paramount.

The Chinese-built model also contributes to an easier driving experience, with keyless access and start, blind spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera, as well as a complete range of multimedia systems.

DS 5LS incorporates the latest technologies, including engines like the THP 160 and THP 200 which feature sequential direct injection, fed by a high-pressure pump, as well as Twin Scroll turbo compressors. Paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox, these engines deliver excellent performance to complement the styling of DS 5LS.

DS 5LS will be available in nine body colours, including Nocciola Brown, an original colour with subtle, shimmering highlights.

A standalone brand in China with a network of more than 50 DS Stores, DS line is set to continue its expansion in the territory. Following on from the production of DS5 and the new DS5 LS at Shenzhen, a new locally-produced SUV is also expected to be brought out in China next year.

In 2014, the brand with the four rings will be running with laser light for the first time in the Le Mans 24 Hours and in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).

“By using this new lighting technology Audi is setting yet another milestone at Le Mans,” said Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Management Board for Technical Development of AUDI AG, at the official presentation of the new R18 e-tron quattro that took place as part of the ‘Audi Sport Finale.’ Laser light will also open up completely new possibilities for our production models in the future. Once more, motorsport at Audi accelerates a new technical development for our customers.”

The innovative laser light, which about 500 guests in attendance at the ‘Audi Sport Finale’ had the chance to experience live for the first time, complements the main LED headlights of the new Audi R18 e-tron quattro. A blue laser beam backlights a yellow phosphorus crystal lens through which the light beam is then emitted. This new light source provides even more homogenous lighting of the road.

Laser light just one of numerous innovations of the new R18

“The new laser light is just one of numerous technical innovations featured by our new R18,” said Head of Audi Motorsport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich, who was recognised by Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg on Wednesday night on the occasion of his 20th anniversary at the helm of Audi Sport. “We’re not going to reveal any more than that at this early stage, as in 2014 we’re facing an extremely tough competition and a year full of challenges for Audi Sport.”

As before, the motorsport commitment of AUDI AG in the new season will continue to consist of the three pillars Le Mans prototypes (LMP1), DTM and GT sport. In addition, Audi Sport is preparing for its move into the new Motorsport Competence Centre in Neuburg in the summer of 2014. “This is a very important step to ensure that Audi will retain its ability to be successfully active in motorsport at the highest level but, obviously, it also puts an additional strain on our squad,” said Dr. Ullrich.

Three Audi R18 e-tron quattro cars in Le Mans 24 Hours

The FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) will see Audi Sport Team Joest compete as the title defender in the 2014 season. In all eight races of the 2014 WEC, the World Champions will be running with two Audi R18 e-tron quattro cars. For the season’s pinnacle event at Le Mans on June 14/15, 2014, the fielding of a third R18 is planned. The driver teams will be announced at a later date.

New version of the Championship-winning Audi RS 5 DTM

In the DTM, Audi will continue the successful long-standing partnership with the Audi Sport Teams Abt Sportsline, Phoenix and Rosberg. For the 2014 season, a new version of the Audi RS 5 DTM that was victorious in the DTM in the past season is in the making at Audi Sport. Mike Rockenfeller, as the title defender, in car number ‘1,’ will definitely be driving one of the eight RS 5 DTM cars to be fielded in total. Assignments for the other cockpits and the distribution to the three teams have not been finalised yet.

In GT sport, Audi Sport customer racing will again be providing particularly intensive support to its customer teams for the 24-hour races at Daytona (USA), the Nürburgring (Germany) and Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium).

GTD version of the Audi R8 LMS for U.S. racing

Following the merger of the GRAND-AM and the American Le Mans Series into the Tudor United SportsCar Championship (TUSCC), a new chapter will begin in U.S. racing. Based on the previous race car for the USA, Audi has developed a GTD version of the R8 LMS, with GTD standing for ‘GT Daytona.’ The GTD version now only differs from the GT3 model in few details.

The Audi R8 LMS Cup in its third season is taking the next step in its internationalization effort in the Asian region. In 2014, aside from three races in China – among others, held in conjunction with the WEC at Shanghai and the DTM at Guangzhou – the world’s first one-make cup of AUDI AG will take place in Malaysia, in South Korea and, for the first time, in Japan. Following the fielding of 16 race cars in the inaugural season and 20 last year, Audi China is planning to put up to 24 Audi R8 LMS cars on the grid.

The extensive motorsport commitment of AUDI AG is complemented by the offer of the Audi race experience, which gives customers with sporting ambitions the opportunity to personally drive the Audi R8 LMS ultra. In addition to individual training sessions, the Audi race experience offers racing commitments in the VLN Endurance Championship and in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring. The three-time Le Mans winner Marco Werner, the former DTM race driver Rahel Frey and the former 24-hour Nürburgring winner Markus Winkelhock will be passing on their knowledge as instructors.

Mitsubishi ASX, increased range, decreased price.

Mitsubishi Motors in the UK is pleased to announce the arrival of the ASX automatic and confirm the new ASX model line-up.

With over 340,000 units sold around the world since its launch in 2010, the Mitsubishi ASX has proved to be a global success for Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC).

Mitsubishi’s clever and capable crossover, ASX, has always stood out from the crowd – and with the 2014 model year just arriving in dealerships, it will soon be attracting more attention than ever. And, never a manufacturer to rest on its laurels, Mitsubishi – the UK’s fastest-growing car brand this year – has refreshed and refined many aspects of the vehicle.

Be Safe, Not Sorry

The ASX isn’t just environmentally aware, it’s a safe choice too. The ASX incorporates Mitsubishi’s RISE safety technology (which dissipates the energy from the impact away from the passenger compartment) as well as ABS anti-lock braking, Active Stability Control, Traction Control, Electronic Brake Distribution, Brake Assist an Emergency Stop Signal System, Hill Start Assist, ISOFIX child seat anchorage and up to 7 airbags as standard. The result is a reduced likelihood of an accident, but should a collision be unavoidable, the ASX not only provides outstanding levels of occupant protection – with a 5 Star Euro NCAP rating – but also excellent pedestrian impact protection.

Under the Bonnet

The ASX has the choice of three Euro V compliant engines: A 1.6 petrol with 115bhp and a 1.8 Di-D low-CO2 turbo-diesel with 114bhp. A five-speed manual is fitted on the 1.6 and a six-speed manual comes with the 1.8 Di-D. An automatic version of ASX is also available – with the 2.2 4N14 16V DOHC engine found in new Outlander.

Stylish and Practical

Based on the same platform as the Outlander, Lancer and Lancer Evolution X, the ASX bridges the gap between Mitsubishi’s conventional passenger cars and its rugged off-roaders. Practicality and versatility are key to the appeal of the ASX. With a wheelbase to match the Outlander, passenger space is generous, with the flexible seating inside giving the ASX real versatility for customers looking for a practical, enjoyable family car. The addition of a stunning panoramic glass roof, complete with sophisticated mood lighting and electric seat controls on the ASX4, will enable front passengers to recline and gaze skywards.

Green Thinking and Economical

Helping the ASX achieve its impressive economy and emissions figures are low rolling resistance tyres, regenerative brakes and intelligent power management to allow the ASX to return its impressive consumption figures. Indeed, every aspect of the ASX has been engineered with its environmental performance in mind, to help create not just an enjoyable, versatile family vehicle, but a responsible one too.

The annual road tax cost ranges from to £125 for the 1.6 petrol engine to £175 for the 2.2 diesel engine. With class-leading economy and emissions, in line with Mitsubishi’s environmental aspirations, the frugal 1.6 petrol engine offers fuel economy of 47.1mpg, 55.4mpg for the 1.8 diesel engine and the 2.2 engine achieves 48.7mpg, based on the official combined cycle.

Going Automatic

Another welcome new addition is the option of automatic transmission, available on the ASX 4 2.2 Diesel 4WD version. The 1.6-litre 16v MIVEC engine comes exclusively fitted with a five-speed manual transmission with front-wheel drive. The 1.8-litre Di-D diesel engine comes fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox, and can be specified with either front- or four-wheel drive (AWC). The 2.2-litre diesel version is equipped with automatic transmission and four-wheel drive.

Something for Everyone

The ASX starts with a choice of two-wheel-drive versions and all models include a spacious, family-friendly interior and offer a comfortable, refined ride.

For those requiring the security of four-wheel-drive, ASX also offers off-road flexibility and despite its compact dimensions, it is based on the proven capabilities of the bigger Outlander off-roader.  So for anyone needing to go off the beaten track, the ASX is more than capable.

Like other models in the Mitsubishi range, ASX is temptingly priced but that doesn’t mean it’s lacking key standard equipment. All models have alloy wheels, air conditioning, electric windows and keyless entry. Other desirable features such as Bluetooth, leather upholstery, satellite navigation, seat heaters and a reversing camera are available.

ASX 2: The Mitsubishi ASX 2 is the entry-level ASX but even this model comes fully-loaded with equipment perfect for its intended audience – such as alloy wheels, air conditioning, Active Stability and Traction Control, remote keyless entry and seven airbags. New for 2014 is a Bluetooth hands-free system as standard.

ASX 3: The Mitsubishi ASX 3 moves the game on. It adds 17-inch alloys, climate control, push-start button, parking sensors, privacy glass, front fog lamps, cruise control and features six speakers. KOS (Keyless Operation System) features and the car also benefits from auto light and rain sensors. Heated front seats and a leather steering wheel add touches of luxury. Leather upholstery is an option too.

ASX 4: This is the most accomplished ASX of the lot, packed with creature comforts and bristling with clever technology. On top of an already strong list of standard equipment, the ASX 4 adds a reversing camera, leather upholstery, Kenwood integrated Satellite Navigation and CD/radio with MP3 compatibility. It come with 4WD – and new for 2014, automatic transmission. A major new feature is the ASX 4’s panoramic glass roof. By day the glass roof creates a fresh, open-air feel throughout the interior; and by night, with its LED mood lighting, it sets the tone for endless evening drive possibilities.

Colour Me Happy

Keenly anticipated by Mitsubishi’s dealer network in the UK, the new ASX range will be available in the following colours:

  • Cool Silver (Metallic)
  • Orient Red (Metallic)
  • Amethyst Black (Metallic)
  • Frost White (Solid)
  • Granite Brown (Metallic)
  • Atlantic Grey (Metallic)
  • White Pearl (Pearlescent)

TLC

The ASX comes with three years unlimited mileage warranty, 12 year anti-corrosion perforation warranty, 3 year pan-European roadside, home and accident assistance. Servicing on the 1.6 ASX and the 1.8 ASX is 12,500 miles or 12 months, whichever occurs first and the servicing on the ASX 2.2 is 9,000. The Mitsubishi Service Plan (MSP) is also available for the additional cost of £450 on the petrol variant and £650 on the diesel variant.

Go Compare

The re-aligned ASX range has achieved a competitive insurance group rating of between 13E to 20E depending on the derivative.

The new classier, luxurious and far better looking Mercedes C-Class

The all-new C-Class heralds a new chapter in the Mercedes-Benz success story and sets new standards in the premium mid-range class. Thanks to an intelligent lightweight design concept boasting weight savings of up to 100 kilograms, excellent aerodynamics and new, economical engines, the C-Class establishes new benchmarks in its class. A host of new assistance systems offer safety of the highest standard, while a new suspension, optionally air-sprung, provides for exemplary ride and driving comfort as well as nimble and agile handling.

In terms of appearance, the new C-Class adopts a progressive approach with its clear yet emotional design and its high-class interior. Many other innovations and interior touches underscore the Saloon's comfort and refined sportiness. In all, the perceived quality of the new C-Class feels like an “upgrade to a higher class of travel”.

The C-Class is the biggest-selling model series from Mercedes-Benz. Sales of the preceding model, which was launched in 2007, total over 2.4 million (165,194 examples in the UK). The new C-Class offers sensuous and clear design and a host of technical innovations as well as a comprehensive scope of standard equipment and exemplary emission and fuel consumption values.

"Mercedes at its best - that's the new C-Class, which sets new standards for the mid-range segment on many fronts," says Prof. Dr Thomas Weber, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG responsible for Group Research and Mercedes-Benz Cars Development. "It is characterised by an emotional yet clear design which is continued in the high-quality and modern interior. Its efficient and high-performance engineering provides the basis for a high standard of driving enjoyment."

Ola Källenius, Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing Mercedes-Benz Cars, adds: "The new C-Class embodies Mercedes-Benz's claim "The best or nothing" in uncompromising style. This is immediately apparent when encountering our new Saloon for the first time, as it creates the impression that one is sitting in a higher class of automobile. I am sure that our customers will be delighted by the high-class appeal and agility of the new C-Class."

The C-Class has grown to take account of people's increasing average height. With an 80-mm increase in the wheelbase (2840 mm) compared with the previous model, the vehicle is 95 mm longer (4686 mm and 40 mm wider (1810 mm). The resultant additional space benefits first and foremost the rear passengers, who now travel in even greater comfort. The new C-Class also outstrips its predecessor in terms of boot capacity, at 480 litres (in accordance with ISO 3832).

Sensuous clarity and purist forms

On a visual level, the new C-Class represents a bold departure from its predecessor. Its striking, dynamic design exudes sensuous clarity and arouses emotions. Nature was a source of inspiration for the new Saloon's aesthetically sensuous lines and surfaces, whose harmony and dynamism create an immediate effect. The designers have created minimalist, purist forms for the C-Class, which emphasize its intelligent technology and engineering. The clearly defined surfaces deliberately display a degree of tension, lending them a muscular and sensuous character. Precise lines and sculptural surfaces create lively light and shade effects.

As Gorden Wagener, Vice President Design Daimler AG, notes: "The new C-Class showcases automotive passion by way of a contemporary design idiom. Progressive and emotional highlights underscore the ground-breaking design style of the new C-Class and demonstrate sensual clarity. The new C-Class interprets modern luxury on a new level.

In the side view a long bonnet, a passenger compartment set well back and short overhangs define the C-Class's classic, well-balanced Mercedes-Benz saloon proportions. Large wheels emphasise the rear and communicate a stylishly sporty character.

The new C-Class comes with H7 halogen headlamps as standard. In addition to the standard-fit headlamps, two energy-saving LED variants are available: a static system and a dynamic version with "LED Intelligent Light System". The characteristic night design lends the new C-Class its very own distinctive look in the dark, too. The rear lamp and brake light in the tail lights feature LED technology in all headlamp versions.

High-class interior with fine details

The Mercedes-Benz designers have styled the interior on a level, which is rarely encountered even in higher vehicle categories. This applies to the carefully chosen high-class materials and their pleasant touch and feel as well as the precision of the finely crafted details. The interior also embodies a new design idiom, which combines sensuousness and clarity perfectly with dynamic sportiness and contributes to the quality feel of the interior.

The driver and front passenger enjoy plenty of space and luxury in a discreet, modern guise on board the new C-Class. This gives rise to a feel-good atmosphere, which is new to this class of vehicle – settling into your seat in the C-Class, is akin to the uplifting feeling of being upgraded from economy to business class on an aeroplane.

The interior design demonstrates a bold new approach by Mercedes-Benz. Here the designers combine in accomplished style the architecture of Mercedes-Benz sports cars with an all new centre console featuring flowing lines. In automatic vehicles, a large one-piece centre console panel performs an elegant sweep from the centre air vents to the armrest. These seamless clear-cut lines create a sense of open space and convey a thrillingly purist and modern feel.

On vehicles with manual transmission, the centre console is slightly steeper and features two separate trim elements in order to create ample space for ergonomic operation of the shift lever.

A centrally positioned free-standing central display is the main eye-catching feature across the centre console – with a screen diagonal of 17.78 cm (7 inches), or 21.33 cm (8.4 inches) if COMAND Online is specified.

Five round air vents lend the dashboard a sporty touch. With their metallic cool-touch effect, they create a fascinating, tangible contrast to the warm look of the other materials – such as the wood in the centre console or the leather on the dashboard. The "upgrade" feel duly continues with the controls. All switches feature a high-quality, three-dimensional design befitting a luxury vehicle and benefit from a clear layout.

The innovative touchpad in the handrest over the Controller on the centre tunnel marks a further evolutionary step developed in-house at Mercedes-Benz. As on a smartphone, this provides for very simple and intuitive operation of all the head-unit functions using finger gestures. The touchpad also permits letters, numbers and special characters to be entered in handwriting - in any language. The user receives clear haptic feedback when operating the touchpad's control surface, which is highly conducive to genuine intuitive use.

Head-up display is also new to the C-Class. Like in a jet fighter, it displays important information directly in the driver's field of vision on the front windscreen, thus providing for clear legibility and ensuring that the driver is distracted less from the road ahead. The system provides information on vehicle speed, speed limits and navigation instructions and displays messages from DISTRONIC PLUS.

Three different design and equipment lines for the exterior and interior respectively offer further scope for individualisation in addition to the standard equipment and appointments.

Robust yet lightweight bodyshell

The body-in-white of the new C-Class provides an innovative basis for reduced weight, outstanding rigidity for excellent handling, combined with optimum noise and vibration characteristics and a high level of crash safety. Thanks to intelligent and innovative lightweight construction, the aluminium hybrid body is around 70 kg lighter than a conventional steel body. The vehicle's overall weight is reduced by around 100 kilograms. As such, the new C-Class leads the "lightweight rankings" in its segment. This spawns numerous benefits: the lightweight construction of the new C-Class cuts fuel consumption by up to 20 per cent without any loss of performance, while at the same time enabling a lower centre of gravity, which in turn gives rise to the vehicle's noticeably sporty and agile handling.

Mercedes-Benz achieves this feat of lightweight construction by various measures, including a completely new structural design and the use of an unusually high proportion of aluminium for a mass-produced range. The share of aluminium has risen compared with the successful predecessor from under 10 per cent to almost 50 per cent.

In keeping with Mercedes-Benz traditions, the body is designed for exemplary crash safety. As a result, the Saloon complies not only with all current national laws but also with all rating requirements, as well as meeting the more stringent internal Mercedes-Benz safety standards based on what actually happens during accidents.

A high-strength safety passenger compartment forms the core of this concept. It is surrounded by specifically configured and field-tested deformation zones, which ensure maximum safety for the occupants by virtue of optimised force paths and a combination of aluminium castings and ultra-high-strength materials. An outer skin consisting almost completely of aluminium provides a protective shell for the body.

Leading the field in aerodynamics and quiet running

Low drag is crucial to achieving outstanding efficiency. From a speed of just under 43 mph, aerodynamic drag exceeds the sum total of all other driving resistance factors. As such, drag constitutes a major parameter in efforts to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. With a Cd value of 0.24 for the

C 220 BlueTEC ECO, the new C-Class Saloon sets a new benchmark in the mid-range segment. The wind noise level, which was already very low in the preceding generation of the C-Class, has been lowered still further.

The engineers have also devoted painstaking attention to optimising other potential sources of disturbance which may have an adverse effect on the driver's and passengers' wellbeing and concentration, even though they may not consciously notice the effects. NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) is the technical term for such nuisance factors. The specialists have optimised the noise characteristics of the interior blower, the power windows, the seat adjustment functions and many other actuation and operating noises, for example. As a result, the new C-Class occupies a benchmark position in its segment.

Outstanding CO2 values with new small diesel engine

Powerful and efficient petrol and diesel engines, all equipped with the ECO start/stop function and complying with the Euro 6 emissions standard, provide for lively performance and great driving enjoyment. They also cut fuel consumption by up to 20 per cent compared with the preceding model.

Three engine variants are available at the market launch - a diesel in the guise of the C 220 BlueTEC and the two petrol models, C 180 and C 200:

Soon after the launch, Mercedes-Benz will expand the range of engines including a new, small diesel engine with a displacement of 1.6 litres.  Reduced weight, compact design and low fuel consumption are among its special merits. Depending on its configuration, the single-stage supercharged four-cylinder engine generates 115 or 136 hp of power from a cubic capacity of 1598cc and delivers 280 or 320 Nm of torque. Its common rail direct injection system operates at a maximum injection pressure of 1600 bar. This engine places the new C-Class in a leading position within its segment in terms of CO2 emissions.

In addition to this new small diesel engine, an advanced version of the proven 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine is also to become available in several output variants. The diesel engines will then cover an output range from 115 hp to 204 hp. The C 220 BlueTEC will also be available with an output of 170 hp. All the diesel engines of the new C-Class are equipped with the established SCR technology (selective catalytic reduction) for environmental friendly driving and to ensure that the C-Class models with diesel engines attain efficiency class A at least, and in most cases even efficiency class A+.

BlueDIRECT petrol engines with third-generation direct injection

The BlueDIRECT four-cylinder petrol engines of the C-Class combine spontaneous response and exemplary power delivery with high efficiency and best in class emission performance. To this end, Mercedes-Benz has transferred the BlueDIRECT technology from the V6 and V8 engines to the four-cylinder engine. The direct injection system with spray-guided combustion, which was introduced into series production by Mercedes-Benz as the first automotive manufacturer, employs a multiple injection process, which is precision-controlled by means of an electronic system. The third-generation direct injection technology is complemented by "fast multiple ignition"

Hybrid with four-cylinder diesel and petrol engine

As in the S and E-Class, Mercedes-Benz will additionally be offering a diesel engine combined with a hybrid module. The C 300 BlueTEC HYBRID with four-cylinder diesel engine and a compact electric motor generates an output of 204 + 27 hp and runs on only 72.4 mpg in NEDC combined mode (provisional figure). A further particularly economical hybrid model, which is to follow in time, will feature state-of-the-art plug-in technology.

Optimised drivetrain

Depending on the installed output ratings, Mercedes-Benz is offering two new 6-speed manual transmissions for the four-cylinder engines in the new C-Class which stand apart first and foremost by virtue of their enhanced ease of shifting coupled with increased shifting precision and a harmonious gear-change sequence. Smooth automatic gear shifting is provided by the 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission, which has undergone further development at Mercedes-Benz in the interests of enhanced environmental-friendliness and driving pleasure.

Suspension – sporty yet comfortable

The suspension on the new C-Class is an all-new development. It provides for nimble and agile handling that makes driving a great pleasure on winding roads while also offering the highest standard of ride comfort in the segment.

A newly designed 4-link front axle plays a major part in the agile handling characteristics. Thanks to the 4-link principle, the front independent suspension is fully decoupled from the spring strut. Axle kinematics allow more grip and higher lateral stability. As a result, the suspension responds more sensitively to steering movements and allows a sporty, agile driving style. An optimised multi-link independent rear suspension with 5-link concept ensures unsurpassed wheel location qualities and supreme straight-line stability.

The new C-Class Saloon is fitted as standard with steel suspension. Three DIRECT CONTROL suspensions with selective damping system are available in conjunction with this suspension:

  • a comfort suspension
  • a lowered comfort suspension with a sportier character
  • a sports suspension lowered by 15 mm
First air suspension in this category

Alternatively, the new C-Class is the first vehicle in its segment that can be fitted with an air suspension (AIRMATIC) on the front and rear axles. Thanks to electronically controlled, continuous variable damping at the front and rear, it offers outstanding road roar and tyre vibration characteristics even with the vehicle loaded. The driver can use the AGILITY SELECT switch to choose between the various characteristics: "Comfort", "ECO", "Sport" and "Sport+". The additional "Individual" option enables drivers to configure their vehicle according to their own wishes. AIRMATIC also features all-round self-levelling for optimum ride comfort even when the vehicle is loaded.

The new C-Class also comes with an electric parking brake as standard. This brake is released automatically when the driver ends parking mode with the aim of moving off.

Steering with a sporty character

All models of the C-Class family will feature the electromechanical Direct Steer system as standard. This combines road-speed-dependent power assistance from the speed-sensitive power steering system with a steering ratio, which varies according to the given steering angle. The power steering assistance provided by the rack and pinion steering gear is controlled on-demand, thereby contributing towards efficiency.

Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive: The intelligent car

It is the declared aim of Mercedes-Benz to make the highest standard of safety available to everyone. To this end, the new C-Class incorporates almost all of the new assistance systems with a host of enhanced functions, which celebrated their world premiere in the S-Class and E-Class only a few months ago. The assistance systems enhance both comfort and safety. Mercedes-Benz calls this Intelligent Drive.

The new C-Class offers numerous innovative safety and assistance systems. It is fitted as standard with ATTENTION ASSIST, which can warn the driver of inattentiveness and drowsiness. On motorways, the COMAND system navigation function flags up nearby break options as stopovers, providing the system has been specified in the vehicle. The ATTENTION ASSIST function offers an adjustable level of sensitivity and can inform the driver in a separate view in the instrument cluster about their level of drowsiness and how long they have been driving since their last break.

In addition to Adaptive Brake Assist, which offers protection from collisions from speeds as low as 5 mph, standard-fit COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS also features an additional function: when a danger of collision persists and the driver fails to respond, the system is able to carry out autonomous braking at speeds of up to 125 mph, thereby reducing the severity of collisions with slower or stopping vehicles. The system also brakes in response to stationary vehicles at a speed of up to 31 mph, and is able to prevent rear-end collisions at speeds of up to 25 mph.

New assistance systems and existing assistance systems with a host of enhanced functions from the new S-Class and E-Class are also optionally available, combining data from various sensor technologies as part of the Intelligent Drive concept to enhance comfort and safety substantially:

  • DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist and integrated Stop Go Pilot is a semi-automatic traffic jam assistant which at speeds less than 37 mph is able to follow the vehicle ahead even where lane markings are unclear or completely lacking, thus providing a safe and convenient means of following the flow of traffic.
  • The BAS PLUS Brake Assist System can now also detect crossing traffic and boost the braking force if the driver fails to apply the brakes sufficiently; the PRE-SAFE® Brake can detect stationary vehicles as well as pedestrians, brake automatically if the driver fails to react, thus preventing accidents up to 31 mph and mitigating the severity of collisions at speeds of up to 45 mph. In flowing traffic, the PRE-SAFE® Brake provides assistance according to the same mode of operation throughout the speed range from five to 125 mph.
  • Enhanced Active Lane Keeping Assist can now also prevent the vehicle from unintentionally drifting out of lane when broken lane markings apply and a risk of a collision arises, e.g. as a result of vehicles overtaking at high speed, parallel traffic or even oncoming traffic, by applying the brakes on one side.

The numerous assistance systems also include

  • Active Parking Assist, which enables automated parking with active steering and brake intervention in both parallel and end-on parking spaces,
  • a 360° camera, which is able to show the vehicle and its surroundings from various perspectives, including a virtual bird's eye view,
  • Traffic Sign Assist with Wrong-Way Alert, which warns of speed limits and alerts the driver to no-overtaking zones and no-entry signs,
  • Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, which allows the high-beam headlamps to be kept on permanently without dazzling traffic by masking out other vehicles in the cone of light from the high-beam headlamps.

Airbags for safety

In addition to 3-point seat belts with pyrotechnical belt tensioning and belt force limitation for the driver, the front passenger and those in the outer rear seats, numerous airbags serve to protect the vehicle's occupants in an accident.

These include:

  • pelvisbags for driver and front passenger
  • a newly developed windowbag
  • sidebags for the outer rear seats
  • a kneebag for the driver

The front passenger seat can additionally be fitted with automatic child seat recognition, which dispenses with the previous transponder in favour of a weight mat. This enables any child seat to be used. The airbag is automatically deactivated when a child seat is fitted and reactivated once it has been removed.

Air conditioning: signals from space

Mercedes-Benz has undertaken systematic further development and substantial improvement of the air conditioning system in the new C-Class. This applies in particular to the control quality, performance, efficiency and air quality. The new C-Class is also the only vehicle in the segment to offer tunnel detection via satellite navigation. It uses the map information from the navigation system and the GPS location data to close the air recirculation flap automatically when the vehicle enters a tunnel, subsequently re-opening it when the vehicle emerges from the tunnel.

Another highlight contributing to a feel-good atmosphere is the AIR-BALANCE package with active fragrancing, air ionisation and more efficient filtration than is available on the standard model.

Vibrant infotainment

A completely new multimedia generation offers intuitive operation in the new C-Class, featuring elaborate animations and visual effects, which present all the functions in a clear and highly attractive manner. The new C-Class is also equipped with the unique Frontbass system. This avant-garde acoustic systems uses the space within the cross-member and side member in the body structure as a resonance chamber for the bass speakers to conjure up a listening experience almost on a par with a concert hall. A Burmester® surround sound system is optionally available.

The navigation system presents its contents in interactive mode. Its features include an animated compass, a "Drive Show" with information for passengers similar to the on-screen presentations on board aeroplanes and Google Maps displayed on the head unit. The navigation system is also able to provide more accurate real-time information about the situation on the roads when it receives its traffic data via internet by means of the "Live Traffic Information" service.

Internet and diverse data sources already available in the basic version

A Bluetooth-capable mobile phone with data option is all it takes to make the Audio 20 system internet-capable. This enables the internet to be surfed without restrictions when the vehicle is stationary. While on the move, Mercedes-Benz Apps such as Weather, GoogleTM Local Search with StreetView and Panoramio, Destination/Route Download and Facebook can be used.

Audio and video playback is possible from various sources, e.g. via Bluetooth, from the Apple iPod and iPhone, from SD card, USB stick or CD/DVD (with Audio 20 CD or higher and with COMAND Online).

COMAND Online with hotspot functionality

COMAND Online not only offers a larger display with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels and a special bonded glass cover such as is familiar from consumer devices like the iPhone or iPad. It also enables digital TV / radio reception, for example, and offers a host of other features including fast hard-disc navigation, automatic tailback avoidance via up-to-date and accurate "Live Traffic Information" traffic data, integrated WLAN hotspot functionality and the LINGUATRONIC voice control system.

Telephony via Bluetooth as standard

The basic Audio 20 system as well as Audio 20 CD and COMAND Online all offer basic telephony as standard, which links up a mobile phone to the vehicle via a standard Bluetooth interface.

UK specification and pricing are still to be confirmed.
