USA - 2017 Audi A4 receives 2016 Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

  • 2017 Audi A4 receives 2016 Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS
  • Audi pre sense city with automatic emergency braking earned the A4 a “superior” rating for front crash prevention
  • The A4 joins the 2017 Q7, which was also awarded a 2016 Top Safety Pick+ rating earlier this year
The all-new 2017 Audi A4 has been named an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety 2016 Top Safety Pick+, earning “good” ratings in all five IIHS crashworthiness evaluations and a “superior” rating for front crash prevention. Top Safety Pick+ is the highest 2016 rating available from IIHS.

"We are very proud to have the IIHS recognize the A4 with this prestigious rating," said Scott Keogh, President of Audi of America.

"More and more customers are seeking driver assistance systems when making their vehicle purchase decision, and the A4 demonstrates some of the best technologies available today.

Having both the Q7 and now the A4 be awarded Top Safety Pick+ ratings further demonstrates our commitment to the highest levels of safety and technology in our vehicles.”

The standard Audi pre sense city with automatic emergency braking earned the 2017 A4 a “superior” rating for front crash prevention.

The system helps detect moving and stationary vehicles as well as pedestrians, at speeds of up to 52 mph and can initiate braking when a potential collision is detected.

The Audi brand’s focus on elevating standards for automotive engineering addresses evolving criteria for consumer crash tests as designated by the IIHS.

As the bestselling model in Audi history, the 2017 A4 sets a new benchmark for the luxury sedan segment. With class-leading horsepower, the 2017 A4 features a 2.0-liter TFSI® engine that generates 252 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque.

The powertrain and chassis have been completely redeveloped, allowing for a sportier driving experience and more comfortable ride, and the new front five-link suspension allows for greater steering precision and handling.

Equipped with a new portfolio of available driver assistance systems, such as adaptive cruise control with stop & go and traffic jam assist, the A4 can help drivers navigate the road and traffic while making their driving experience more enjoyable.

The A4 also features a suite of advanced infotainment functions including the available Audi virtual cockpit and for the first time, a full-color head-up display. Both bring relevant driving information directly front and center for the driver.

IIHS Top Safety Pick Ratings

IIHS tests evaluate two aspects of safety: crashworthiness, how well a vehicle protects its occupants in a crash, and crash avoidance and mitigation, technology that can prevent a crash or lessen its severity.

To determine crashworthiness, IIHS rates vehicles good, acceptable, marginal or poor, based on performance in five tests: moderate overlap front, small overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints. In the area of crash avoidance and mitigation, IIHS assigns vehicles with available front crash prevention systems ratings of basic, advanced or superior, based on the type of system and performance in track tests.
