GENEVA - Renault showcases the brand new Captur, a cross between MPV and SUV, a return to this segment is long over due from Renault.

By combining form and function, Renault Captur brings motorists the best of the MPV, SUV and hatchback worlds. It stands out as another example of Renault’s determination to bring automotive innovation to the widest audience possible. Renault Captur brings affordable new ideas to the segment. The clever solutions designed to make everyday life easier include a sliding rear bench seat, a multi-position boot floor and Media Nav or Renault R-Link multimedia systems, not to mention its Easy Life drawer-type glove box (left hand drive models only), two-tone paint and zipped removable seat covers.
True to its strategy which seeks to make innovation available to as many motorists as possible, Renault has stolen a lead in the realm of in-car connectivity with the widespread availability of its Renault R-Linkmultimedia system across its range. Now available for New Clio Hatchback, New Clio Sport Tourer, New Clio Renaultsport, ZOE, Captur and New Kangoo Express, it equips all the vehicles on display on the brand’s stand in Geneva.

Renault’s new styling cues are becoming increasingly visible and are embodied by all the vehicles on show in Geneva, including the new Renault Scénic line-up which has been joined by Scénic XMOD, a crossover version of the benchmark MPV. With its adventurer look and outstanding dynamics, it is the perfect vehicle for escaping the crowds.
Renault has been a passionate supporter of motorsport for 115 years. As an engine supplier to four F1 teams and with 11 Constructors’ world titles to its name, Renault has carried over the technological expertise it has acquired on the race track to the development of its Energy engines. This range has been extended with the addition of the brand new Energy TCe 130 petrol engine that will go on sale in April under the bonnet of New Mégane, New Scénic and New Grand Scénic.
The unveiling of New Clio GT-Line 120 EDC sees Renault further fuel the passion generated by its  Renaultsport and GT range of versatile performance cars.
Thanks to the combination of its Energy range of engines and its electric vehicle programme which together spearhead the brand’s environmental drive, Renault is on target to go below the emissions threshold of 120g/km. Following the launch of four electric vehicles over a period of two years, Renault, which has been Europe’s number one van manufacturer since 1998, takes the wraps off New Kangoo Z.E. The precursor of the brand’s Z.E. range is also Europe’s best-selling compact electric van and the latest version forms part of the Kangoo line-up’s renewal that was announced at the end of January.

CAPTUR, THE URBAN CROSSOVER WITH RENAULT STYLE
Elegant and practical
“The genes of Renault Captur contain all the ideas of the concept car – the concept car which it was my pleasure to present as the expression of the ‘Explore’ theme in Renault's life-cycle design strategy. As the brand’s first urban crossover, Captur combines all the advantages of the MPV, SUV and family hatchback. Its balanced, fluid lines impart a friendly muscular energy to its bodywork, while its expressive style and everyday practicality provide an open invitation to discover the world – either two-up, or with the whole family aboard.” Laurens van den Acker (Senior Vice President, Corporate Design, Renault)
Designed for love at first sight – and real-world practicality
Renault Captur is an urban crossover with an unpretentious look. Thanks to its compact footprint (4.12m x 1.77m x 1.57m) and large 16- or 17-inch wheels, it proclaims its sporty vocation and lust for adventure, while its substantial ground clearance (200 mm) raises it to the level of a number of crossovers and 4x4s from the next segment up. Thanks to its dynamic stance, Renault Captur comes across as more imposing than its actual dimensions would suggest.
Renault Captur's fluid, balanced forms express an assertive personality. The forward position of its steeply-raked windscreen emphasises the design's dynamic appeal, and the two-part horizontal rear lights permit a wide tailgate while steering clear of a boxy look. The sense of quality is also evident in the fit of the wheels, with a minimal gap between the tyres and the bodywork. Meanwhile, modern, original and practical styling details confirm that Renault Captur has above all been designed to be extremely user-friendly. For example, the sill protection mouldings guard against urban and rural scrapes, and the base of each door is shaped to prevent shoes and clothing getting dirty when climbing aboard.
Inside, the impression of space is borne out by the cabin’s generous dimensions. Echoing the exterior, Renault Captur’s interior is bright, colourful, harmonious and customisable. A choice of light or dark trims is available for the first two equipment levels, and the mesh map pockets on the front seat backs – as fitted to the concept car of the same name – are both sophisticated and useful. The patterns selected for the upholstery permit a wide range of colour combinations and contrasts.
Easy to personalise so that everyone can shape it to their individual lifestyle and desires
With Renault Captur, it is possible to specify:
  • two-tone paintwork to provide a contrast between the roof and pillars and the rest of the body,
  • the colour of the wheels,
  • decor graphics for the bonnet, roof or tailgate, as well as a range of themed decor packs to embellish the steering wheel and upholstery and co-ordinate them with the exterior graphics,
  • a light or black interior trim,
  • one of several interior decor colours: grey, ivory, chrome, orange, blue or green for the air vent, centre console and loudspeaker surrounds, as well as for the drawer-type Easy Life glove box (not available with right hand drive). These colours are echoed by the upholstery,
  • a choice of four non-removable upholsteries for the first two equipment levels, plus a range of eight Zip Collection zipped seat covers as options for the second equipment and standard for the third equipment level.
Attractively priced equipment packs will help customers configure their own personalised vehicle with co-ordinated interior and exterior.
Renault turns the crossover into a car for everyday use
“Thanks to readily affordable innovations that are in tune with the times, Renault has always designed cars that are easy to live with. As a genuine crossover, designed for the real world, Renault Captur proves the point one more time.” Benoît Bochard (A and B Segment Programme Director)
Renault Captur's clever features make everyday life easier
Renault Captur introduces two seldom seen, but valued, innovations: patented Zip Collection removable seat covers (depending on version), plus a large Easy Life drawer in place of the familiar glove box (not available with right hand drive). On a more general level, Renault Captur brings innovative practical and comfort features to a broader public in the B segment.
Practical:
  • Easy Life: the first glove box that can be used by the driver from the driving seat. Capable of holding 11 litres, the Easy Lifedrawer is a more attractive and practical solution than the traditional glove box, since it is so easy to see inside and reach its contents.
  • The removable, multi-position boot floor is also reversible, with carpeting on one side and rubberised plastic on the other.
  • The uncluttered forms of the large boot enable it to hold from 377 to 455 litres (depending on rear sliding seat position)
  • A removable 1.6-litre bin is located between the front seats.
  • A large lidded stowage area is set in the top of the dashboard.
  • The front door bins can accommodate 1.5-litre drinks bottles.
  • Two handy stowage areas are located underneath the boot mat either side of the tyre inflation kit.
  • The rear bench seat slides 160mm of fore/aft travel.
Easy to maintain:
  • The Zip Collection seat covers are easy to unzip, for cleaning by hand or in a washing machine. There is no need to labour awkwardly inside the car to get rid of stains; the interior can now be as good as new when you come to re-sell.
  • The rubberised side of the reversible multi-position boot floor can simply be sponged clean or swept out, while the boot walls and front seat shrouding will cope easily with dirty loads.
Thoughtful and convenient:
  • Keyless entry and starting is standard across the range, while a hands-free key card is available for the second equipment level and upwards,
  • The height-adjustable driver's seat has 70mm of travel so that drivers of all sizes can find a comfortable driving position.
  • Motorway Lane Change function: a single flick of the indicator produces three flashes.
  • Hill Start Assist across the range.
  • Rear parking sensors (audible signal) and reversing camera as part of MEDIA NAV or R-Link packs.
  • Cornering lights: automatic activation of the appropriate fog light to light up the inside of a corner and provide the driver with a wider field of view.
  • Welcome lighting and indirect ambient lighting above the Easy Life drawer, from the second equipment level upwards.
Renault Captur – making the on-board experience even more luxurious
Thanks to their generous complement of standard equipment, all versions of Renault Captur boast an equipment specification worthy of larger classes:
  • Sliding rear bench seat with 160mm of fore/aft travel
  • Capacious Easy Life drawer (not available with right hand drive)
  • Reversible, multi-position boot floor
  • Key card, variable-rate power steering
  • Heated, electrically adjustable door mirrors

Renault Captur can be specified with an EDC dual clutch gearbox mated to the TCe 120 engine, to combine the comfort of automatic transmission with the fuel economy of a manual.
To cement its family-wide appeal, Renault Captur is equipped with the very best in multimedia solutionsthanks to a choice between the Renault R-Link or Media Nav systems, as well as high-quality audio equipment. All versions of Renault Captur feature four large-diameter (165mm) loudspeakers as standard or, when R-Link is specified, four woofers and two tweeters. All the audio systems available for Renault Captur come with steering wheel-mounted fingertip remote control, plus USB and jack sockets, mounted either on the fascia itself or elsewhere on the console. The Bluetooth ® technology of these systems allows hands-free telephone operation and enjoyment of music stored on portable devices with no need for trailing cables. The R-Plug&Radio systems are equipped with an MP3-compatible CD player.
Renault Captur: the most fuel-efficient urban crossover in its class
Fuel consumption and CO2 emissions among the segment’s very best
Thanks to its choice of Energy engines, Renault Captur aims to be the category leader with regard to low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, yet still be fun to drive.
Petrol engines
  • Energy TCe 90: 113g/km1 (56.5mpg1)
  • TCe 120 EDC: 125g/km1 (52.3mpg1)
Diesel engines
  • Energy dCi 90: 95g/km1 (76.4mpg1)
  • dCi 90 EDC2, target: 104g/km3 (tbc mpg2)
A crossover that weighs as little as a hatchback
To further reduce fuel consumption, Renault Captur benefits from the latest research into weight saving, aerodynamics and tyres. Its weight is the same as that of Clio III, even though it has a larger footprint and extra comfort and safety equipment. Whenever the cooling requirement reduces, powered flaps behind the bumper automatically close off the air intakes, for the benefit of overall aerodynamic efficiency (depending on version and market). Meanwhile, ducting inside the engine compartment channels the flow of air, again improving aerodynamic performance. Last but not least, ultra-low rolling resistance tyres reduce fuel consumption by up to three per cent.
Ahead of the game in the use of recycled materials
Recycled materials account for 16 per cent (by weight) of the plastics used in the manufacture of Renault Captur. This is a first for Renault and represents one of the best scores in the automobile industry.
Meticulously designed and built to last
Built on the proven B platform
Bolstered by its expertise in vehicle architecture, Renault has always led the way when it comes to developing bold new concepts. Compact on the outside, yet spacious and versatile inside, Renault Captur once again breaks down barriers between the established segments. It is built around the proven Renault-Nissan Alliance B platform that is widely acclaimed for its comfort, roominess, handling and reliability. Renault Captur uses the same drivetrain as New Clio, with wider tracks and a longer wheelbase.
Manufacturing expertise at the Valladolid plant
The Valladolid plant in Spain has risen to the manufacturing challenges presented by Captur, notably that of bringing two-tone paintwork to a wider audience. It is expected that there will be a high take-up rate for this finish, so the plant has established a process and developed solutions for fast and effective masking.
Reassuring: all models equipped with Hill Start Assist and Roll Movement Intervention
Renault Captur reaches the very highest standards in terms of active and passive safety:
  • Adult safety: reinforced structure, high-performance frontal airbags, head/thorax lateral airbags, impact detection pressure sensors, front seat belts with pre-tensioners and load limiters, anti-whiplash head restraints, a load limiter function for the outer rear seats and an anti-submarining design for the front seats.
  • Child safety: Isofix child seat anchorage for front passenger seat and outer rear seats, with three seatbelt points and three type approved seat belt positions for child seats.
  • Pedestrian safety: designed to minimise pedestrian impact injuries, particularly to the legs, hips and head.
The dynamics of Renault Captur fully reflect the brand’s expertise and high standards. Its road holding inspires confidence, while its responsive handling and ride comfort figure among the very best in its class.
To ensure driver confidence, all versions of Renault Captur will be equipped with:
  • ESC with Roll Movement Intervention. This intervenes in extreme situations, if the body roll angle threatens to become excessive. It makes use of the ESC’s control unit to brake individual wheels.
  • Hill Start Assist prevents the vehicle from rolling back when the driver releases the foot brake by temporarily holding the vehicle stationary.
  • ABS and emergency brake assist, plus latest-generation ESC traction control complete with seven sensors.
