Chevrolet's all-new small SUV, the Trax has been awarded the top five-star rating by the independent consumer organisation European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP), which released its latest results today. The Chevrolet Trax is the seventh Chevrolet model to receive Euro NCAP's top ratings, joining the Aveo, Volt, Cruze, Orlando, Malibu and Captiva.
Even though the Trax was evaluated under the new more stringent 2013 Euro NCAP protocols, it proved to be among the safest cars in its segment.
"The bold and rugged Trax exterior design suggests a high level of safety at first glance. Safety is, among others, one of the purchase reasons for SUVs. We are really proud of the five-star NCAP test result, confirming what Trax customers expect from our new small SUV," said Susan Docherty, President and Managing Director of Chevrolet and Cadillac Europe.
The Euro NCAP results showed that in the Adult Occupant category, the Trax scored an excellent 94 per cent. Among others, the Trax achieved maximum points in the side barrier test, providing occupants with good protection for all body regions. Good scores were also received for frontal impact while the Trax provided good protection against whiplash injury thanks to adjustable seat and head restraints in the eventuality of a rear impact. In the Child Occupant category, the Trax received favourable results in the side impact test and child restraint installation.
Referring to the Pedestrian Safety category, Euro NCAP reported that the Trax bumper provides good protection for pedestrians in all areas and scored maximum points.
In the Safety Assist category, the Trax’s standard safety equipment – such as Electronic Stability Control and speed limitation assistance – met Euro NCAP’s test requirements.
Chevrolet has taken safe driving one step further with the introduction of Siri Eyes Free. Through the Chevrolet MyLink connected radio technology available in the Trax, customers with a compatible iPhone* can direct Siri to perform a number of tasks while they safely keep their eyes on the road and their hands on the wheel.
The Chevrolet Trax started arriving at European Chevrolet dealerships in May. It gives buyers many of the benefits of a full-blooded SUV while combining the driving dynamics and fuel economy of a smaller car. Trax offers a maximum of versatility, from its flexible modern passenger cabin and on-demand all-wheel-drive to the Chevrolet MyLink enhanced radio connectivity.
The vehicle tested by Euro NCAP was an LT trim front-wheel-drive Chevrolet Trax equipped with a 130 hp 1.7L diesel engine.
