Sketch of Mazda Hazumi concept, previewing the new Mazda 2, leaks onto the web ahead of Geneva show
Following a teaser shot last week, what’s believed to be the first official image of the Mazda Hazumi concept has leaked into the web less than a week before its Geneva Motor Show debut. The Hazumi concept is designed to preview the new Ford Fiesta-rivalling Mazda 2, on sale in late 2015.
Clearly sporting a design inspired by the new Mazda 3, the Hazumi features a three-dimensional shield-shaped grille that links up directly with the headlights. A high-waistline, narrow glass area and a prominent rear spoiler create a sporty profile, while the ridiculously oversize wheels in this sketch and the ground-hugging bodykit ensure an aggressive stance.
In Japanese, ‘Hazumi’ translates as ‘spring up’ or ‘bound’, which Mazda claims is ‘well-suited to a small car that appears to be bursting with energy.’ If the production car can stick closely to this concept, Mazda will certainly have one of the best-looking cars in the class.
There are no technical details yet – we’ll know more when the show car appears in Geneva – but Mazda has already announced a new SkyActiv-D 1.5 diesel will make its debut alongside the Hazumi – hinting that it will fitted to the new Mazda 2 when its arrives next year
