March new car registrations, 2004-2014

A STUNNING month, records have been broken by so many brands its too many to mention, there are a few surprises, the biggest being LAND ROVER, how are they not selling as many cars as last year, they have the Range Rover and Sport models, all new, the Freelander and Evoque lines at Halewood are running at full steam, 24 hours a day, and the Discovery has just been given a mini facelift, ready for a whole new family of Discovery cars starting with the Freelander replacement at the end of this year.

MG, WOW, a near 600% increase YOY for the first three months, it seems that the new MG3 is actually selling, at long last, after months of spluttering sales figures March has taken off, I just hope they carry on this sales tour de force, and advertise, advertise, advertise, get the new SUV here sooner, dump the MG6, bring in an EV, auto's, engine choices and hopefully MG will be back on the road to recovery.

HUGE SHOCK, SAAB registered a car in the UK in March, where has that come from, is it a new NEVS version, or an old stock model just found somewhere, I am sure that someone somewhere will find out, Perodua managed to sell 2 cars in March, that's 53 less than last March, and that makes 12 cars this year, 85 down on Q1 last year, Proton, none in March, and only one this year, I wonder who was desperate enough to buy a Proton, and who was the lucky dealer that sold it, I bet they get a bonus !

Only 10 brands have failed to improve on Q1 2013, Aston Martin are only 2 cars below last year, so we can forgive them, Chevrolet has been dumped out of Europe, so that's the excuse there, Chrysler has a weird range of cars that has no corporate fluidity, and with very little advertising and even fewer dealers, its not surprising, Infiniti, they made a huge downward curve in sales for March, which effected Q1 sales, I cant think why not, they have a range of half decent cars.

MINI, well, we can explain away the drop due in huge part to the third generation hatch coming on stream, and the old model not selling, Mitsubishi, is another brand with no real reason for such a dramatic turnaround, it has a great range of cars and trucks, its just, well, no one wanted them in March, Proton, well, we have explained that away, no one wants them, at any money, with new cars on the horizon, things will hopefully change that, lastly, SMART, this brand goes up and down like a yoyo, the only model, the ForTwo, is now very aged, and is being changed imminently, and a new FourFor is also coming, so sale for SMART will hopefully reflect these new cars.

Lastly Jaguar, a vast improvement in March compared to January and February, the F-Type Coupe has just been launched at a significant price decrease on the roadster, so this will help sales, also the XJ is undergoing final testing for its mid life facelift, the XE also undergoing final evaluation, the C-X17 also doing the rounds, and jaguar are definitely looking towards 200,000 units per annum.
