The current ŠKODA 4×4 model range is as strong as never before. With state-of-the-art all-wheel-drive technology ŠKODA cars offer more performance and safety under all circumstances. Currently, the ŠKODA 4×4 range consists of five 4×4 models: ŠKODA Octavia Combi 4×4, ŠKODA Yeti 4×4 and ŠKODA Yeti Outdoor 4×4 as well as the ŠKODA Superb 4×4 and ŠKODA Superb Combi 4×4. This means that in the compact and mid-class segment, ŠKODA has the most modern and broadest offer of 4×4 vehicles in Europe. At the end of August 2014, the new ŠKODA Octavia Scout, as presented on the Geneva Motor Show, will be introduced on the markets. The brand´s 4×4 model range will be extended to six models.

“Our all-wheel-drive model range is the strongest in company’s history,” says ŠKODA CEO Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “With this ŠKODA proofs its 4×4 competence in the compact and mid-class segment. Since 2008, we have tripled the number of vehicles we have sold from our 4×4 range, and increased the proportion of ŠKODA all-wheel-drive vehicles delivered to more than 20% in this range. The modern all-wheel-drive range is making a significant contribution to the growth of the company,” says Prof. Dr. Vahland.

Since 1999 the Czech brand successfully competes in the all-wheel-drive segment: Between 1999 and the end of 2013, ŠKODA delivered a total of around 386,400 all-wheel-drive vehicles to its customers worldwide. Since 2008 the manufacturer tripled its annual 4×4 deliveries to around 60,100 cars in 2013. Between January and April 2014 alone, the brand supplied around 24,400 ŠKODA all-wheel-drive vehicles to customers worldwide.

The Octavia is the Czech manufacturer’s best-selling 4×4 model series by far (1999 until April 2014: 219,900 vehicles), followed by the Yeti (2009 until April 2014: 144,400 vehicles) and the Superb series (2008 until April 2014: 46,500 vehicles).

Cutting-edge all-wheel-drive technology with Haldex-clutch

ŠKODA’s all-wheel-drive vehicles are equipped with cutting-edge Haldex-clutch. The Haldex-clutch is an electronically-controlled multi-plate clutch. With permanent all-wheel drive, it enables proportional distribution of drive between front and rear axles.

The all-wheel-drive system is smart, precise and fast. Driving conditions are constantly assessed and the control unit calculates the ideal driving torque for the rear axle. Traction losses are therefore virtually eliminated. When coasting or at low load, drive is via the front axle. This saves fuel.

The ŠKODA Octavia Combi 4×4: An all-wheel drive class of its own

The third Octavia generation launched in mid-2013 impresses with optimal handling. The range of engines includes two diesel engines (1.6 TDI/77 kW, 2.0 TDI/110 kW) and one petrol engine (1.8 TSI/132 kW). Fuel consumption is on average 14% below the vehicle’s predecessor’s values.

ŠKODA Superb 4×4 and ŠKODA Superb Combi 4×4: powerful flagship models

The ŠKODA Superb 4×4 and ŠKODA Superb Combi 4×4 models are shining examples of mid-range all-wheel drive vehicles. Since 2008 (Superb) and 2009 (Superb Combi), the brand’s flagship models, have been available with all-wheel drive. Around 46,500 customers have already chosen one of these two models.

In mid-2013, ŠKODA Superb and ŠKODA Superb Combi were fully updated. The Superb all-wheel-drive vehicles have therefore become even more desirable. For the ŠKODA Superb 4×4 2.0 TDI/125 kW, the much sought-after combination of all-wheel drive with automatic DSG transmission is available for the first time. All-wheel-drive is overall available for two petrol and two diesel engines.

ŠKODA Yeti and ŠKODA Yeti Outdoor: two new design variants

Since the end of 2013, for the first time, the ŠKODA Yeti  is available in two variants: the elegant ŠKODA Yeti for the city and in the variant of the ŠKODA Yeti Outdoor designed for terrain and adventure.

The all-wheel-drive Yeti 2.0 TDI/125 kW is available as a combination with automatic six-speed DSG transmission. All-wheel drive in the Yeti can be combined with a total choice of four engines: 1.8 TSI/118 kW, 2.0 TDI/81 kW, 2.0 TDI/103 kW and 2.0 TDI/125 kW.
