The all-New Jeep Renegade takes part in the iconic "North Face® Kalymnos Climbing Festival"

  • Jeep® is presenting sponsor of the third edition of the international event for climbing professionals and enthusiasts, "The North Face® Kalymnos Climbing Festival", from 9 to 12 October.
  • The new Jeep Renegade, the first Fiat Chrysler Automobiles car to mark the brand's entry into the Small SUV segment, joins athletes arriving from around the world.
  • The new Renegade is designed for a younger target that lives life "wild and wired" and wants to not only express itself in a non-conformist manner, but also follow that instinct - which is Jeep's as well - of discovery and adventure, wherever they hide. These are the same passions that spur the climbing enthusiasts who will visit the fascinating Greek island for four days.
  • A fleet of Jeep Wranglers and Wrangler Unlimiteds will be available to the organisation as well.
  • The "Jeep Award" is offered to the first athlete who climbs the route with the highest level of difficulty.
  • Videos, photos and updates of the event available on the Jeep-People and Jeep Italia social channels.
“The North Face® Kalymnos Climbing Festival” is returning to the island of Kalymnos, Greece from 9 to 12 October. This international climbing festival is organised by the leading US manufacturer of outdoor clothing, “The North Face®”. The Jeep® brand will once again this year take part in the event involving some of the best climbers of international fame as presenting sponsor.
This year “The North Face Kalymnos Climbing Festival” will have as guests the legends of the 1980's and 90's, such as Ben Moon (UK), Jean-Baptiste Tribout (FR), Yuji Hirayama (JAP), Boone Speed (USA), Maurizio ‘Manolo’ Zanolla (ITA), Gerhard Hörhager (AUT) and Patxi Arocena (ESP). The full programme includes the traditional Marathon Competition open to climbers of all levels and the Legends Story Teller Night, a party on the seashore and an outing at sea with the The North Face athletes. The third edition of the Festival also includes a new initiative entitled "1 climber = 1 bolt", in which the organisation will replace one "bolt" of one of the island's equipped walls with a new one for every participant entered in the event.

To add an extra challenge for the climbers, the brand will offer the "Jeep Award", namely a Jeep trophy that will be given to the first athlete to climb the route with the highest level of difficulty. It is a recognition that stresses how an athlete must have extraordinary endurance, deftness and technical capabilities in order to get past the obstacles and reach the top of the wall, just like using a technology refined over 73 years has allowed the Jeep vehicles to boast class-leading off-road capabilities.
The new Jeep Renegade will share the spotlight with the climbers. It is the first Fiat Chrysler Automobiles car to mark the brand's entry into the Small SUV segment. Depending on the market where sold, the range comprises four trim levels - Sport, Longitude, Limited and Trailhawk - and its price list starts from below Euro 20,000 for the 110 HP Sport 1.6 E-Torq version.
One model of the new Jeep Renegade will be on display at the customised Jeep area inside the Base Camp that The North Face® has set up at the village of Elena at Masouri. A fleet of Jeep Wranglers and Jeep Wrangler Unlimiteds will also be available to organisers for the entire duration of the event.
Marked by a strong stylistic personality and the right size for being used both in town and on off-road trails, the new Jeep Renegade also offers two new advanced 4x4 systems - Jeep Active Drive and Jeep Active Drive Low - which are fitted with an exclusive rear axle disconnection device so switching from two-wheel to four-wheel-drive is fluid and energy losses are reduced when it is unnecessary to use the 4x4 mode, thus improving overall fuel consumption efficiency.
Built at the renovated SATA plant in Melfi (Potenza), and sold in over 100 countries around the world, including the USA, the Jeep also changes the rules in how to communicate, as the exciting TV commercial that made its début in Italy a few weeks ago with an exclusive extended 1'45" version during prime time demonstrates. An integral part of an important TV, digital and press media campaign supporting the commercial launch, the film clip is a series of evocative images of landscapes and faces that cross territorial frontiers. The starting point is the lines of a poem written for the occasion and performed by the singer Victor who in first person talks about his world, identifying with the Renegade's spirit: “Transforming the ordinary into extraordinary. My music is the wind, and my light is a fire, I’m the game changer, the hero who turns the world into a true story made up of strength, courage, novelty, a desire to change. I’m a Renegade."
These extraordinarily powerful words sum up the soul of the new Renegade as well. This younger Jeep is designed for a younger target that lives life "wild and wired" and wants to express itself in a non-conformist manner, and follow that instinct - which is Jeep's as well - of discovery and adventure, wherever they hide. These are the same passions that spur the climbing enthusiasts, the same that convinced Jeep to sponsor the third edition of The North Face® Kalymnos Climbing Festival, in this way consolidating the fruitful cooperation between Jeep and The North Face®.
The two brands have in fact found themselves together at many national and international events for the past three years. The basis of this relationship lies in the shared values of adventure, passion and freedom, in addition to leadership in the field of outdoor pursuits and technological innovation. By being on hand at the Kalymnos Festival, Jeep is strengthening its links with the active and outdoor sports world and confirming its ability to travel anywhere and to undertake any journey which unmistakably characterises the Jeep models.
