UK MAY SALES - FORD - Continued growth from the UK market leader keeps it way ahead of the competition.

Ford total vehicle, car and commercial vehicle (CV) sales and share increased in May, compared with May 2014, as it beat overall UK market growth and stretched its sales lead in each of these sectors over its nearest competitors.

According to the official May sales figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT):
  • Ford beats UK market growth – UK car sales grow for 39th consecutive month
  • Ford is the UK market leader in total vehicle, car and commercial vehicle sales
  • Ford total vehicle, car and CV sales and share up, compared with May 2014
  • Fiesta, Focus and Transit range are the UK’s top three best-sellers

Our fresh and extended CV range is an outstanding sales success and we are continuing our roll out of new models, including C-MAX, S-MAX, Galaxy, Mustang and Mondeo Vignale."


The official figures released by the SMMT today show that total car sales in May were up 2.4 per cent to 198,706 units, compared with May 2014. Ford car sales were up 3.5 per cent at 24,273, 3,575 registrations ahead of its nearest rival.

For the year to date (end May) total UK car sales were 1,119,072 up 5.7 per cent compared with the same period in 2014.  Ford car sales for this period were 144,095, 31,683 registrations ahead of its nearest rival.  

Ford’s lead in retail car sales reflects the preferences of private buyers.  In May, Ford was 3.2 percentage points of retail car sales share ahead of its nearest rival and for the year to date, it was ahead 4.2 percentage points.

The Ford Fiesta and the Ford Focus were the number one and two top sellers in May with Focus sales up 26 per cent, compared with May 2014.  The broad customer appeal of Ford’s car range is demonstrated by Fiesta, B-MAX, Focus, C-MAX, Kuga and Galaxy all occupying top three places in their respective market segments in May and for the year to date.

UK commercial vehicle sales in May were up 17.3 per cent at 32,558, compared with May 2014.  Total sales of Ford CVs were up 33.4 per cent at 7,745, compared with May 2014.  

For the year to date total UK CV sales were up 22.1 per cent at 171,623, compared with 2014.  Total sales of Ford CVs for the same period were up 38.3 per cent at 42,593, compared with 2014.

Ford light commercials sales in May were up from 1,191 to 1,518, compared with May 2014, and LCV market share increased from 16.2 to 20.3 per cent.  For the year to date Ford LCV sales have almost doubled, compared with 2014, increasing from 4,893 to 9,651 with share up from 13.1 to 22.2 per cent.

Ford medium commercials sales in May were up from 4,615 to 6,227, compared with May 2014, and MCV market share increased from 25.9 to 28.8 per cent.  For the year to date Ford MCV sales, compared with 2014, increased from 25,902 to 32,942 with share up from 28.2 to 29.6 per cent.
