Peugeot-Citroen announces 2015 sales in China, after a great start the year ended up flat at 2014 levels.

Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile Co. delivered 704,818 vehicles in 2015, virtually unchanged from 704,016 in 2014. The partnership had targeted sales growth of 14 percent in 2015 but fell short because of an industrywide slowdown in the second and third quarters.

The company, a 50-50 partnership between PSA Peugeot Citroen and China's Dongfeng Motor Corp., produces and distributes Peugeot and Citroen models, but not the Citroen DS lineup.

Peugeot and Citroen sales started declining in April and didn't recover until the central government slashed the purchase tax on small vehicles on Oct. 1. Beijing halved the sales tax on vehicles with engine displacements of 1.6 liters or less.

In 2016, Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen aims to sell 765,000 vehicles, an increase of 7.6 percent from 2015. PSA's other Chinese joint venture, Changan PSA Automobile Co., produces the Citroen DS lineup in China. It has not released sales for 2015.
