UK market leader, Ford, increased sales in November as it maintained its lead in total vehicle, car and commercial vehicle sales.

UK market leader, Ford, increased sales in November as it maintained its lead in total vehicle, car and commercial vehicle sales.
Ford car retail car sales outpaced the industry and Ford commercial vehicle (CV) sales are more than double those of its nearest rival.
According to the official November sales figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT):
  • Ford is the UK market leader in total vehicle, car and CV sales
  • Fiesta is UK best-seller
  • Transit Custom first in CV sales and Transit range is second in UK total vehicle sales
  • Ford CV sales surpassed 110,000 registrations year-to-date
Andy Barratt, Ford of Britain chairman and managing director, said:  “The UK market’s robust growth was evident across all sectors in November, and it is particularly rewarding to see Ford strengthening its leadership position.

“The Fiesta is in its eighth year as the UK’s best-selling car and this month has seen another very strong sales performance, particularly in the retail sector. We also continue to add to our product range and our latest newcomers, including the new KA+, new Kuga and Edge models will boost our sales momentum even further."
The official figures released by the SMMT today show that total car sales in November were up 2.9 per cent to 184,101units, compared with November 2015. Ford car sales were up 1.6 per cent at 21,944.  For the year to date (end November) total UK car sales were 2,514,764, up 2.5 per cent compared with the same period in 2015.  Ford car sales for this period were 297,575, some 63,000 registrations ahead of its nearest rival.
The Ford Fiesta notched up 8,382 sales in November and with total registrations of 112,327for the year to date, the Fiesta is the UK best seller by a significant margin – 39,155 sales and 2.0 percentage points of market share ahead of its nearest competitor.
Ford is the clear leader in retail car sales, which most accurately reflect the preferences of private buyers.  Up 19.2 per cent to 12.7 per cent, Ford’s November retail car sales share was 5.1 percentage points ahead of its nearest rival, with Fiesta leading the sector with more than 4,000 sales ahead of its nearest rival. For the year to date Ford’s retail car sales share was 12.2 per cent, a lead of 4.2 percentage points.
UK commercial vehicle sales in November were up 3.2 per cent at 30,434, compared with November 2015.  At 8,951 total sales of Ford CVs were down 0.7 per cent, compared with November 2015.  For the year to date total UK CV sales were up 3.6 per cent at 357,407, compared with the same period in 2015.  Total sales of Ford CVs for the year to date were up 12.3 per cent at 110,291 compared with 2015.
Ford is in its 51st year of UK CV market leadership and is set to close the year on another record performance with sales already surpassing 110,000, as Fiesta Van (1st), Transit Courier (1st), Transit Connect (2nd), Transit Custom (1st), Transit (1st) and Ranger (1st) are all placed first or second in their respective segments.
