“The fastest seller figures are reported by Auto Trader on a monthly basis, and I am sure the data for October will be of particular interest to motor industry commentators and retailers alike,” said Karolina Edwards-Smajda, Auto Trader Director Retailer & Consumer Products.
“It is still very early days to assess what impact the VW Group emissions scandal may have had on the market. Despite not featuring in this month’s Top 10, speed of sale and market prices of the majority of VW models has not been noticeably impacted throughout October, and we are yet to see any changes in consumer demand.
It’s been exactly a month since the Volkswagen Sharan topped the national fastest sellers list in September, so we will continue to monitor developments and trends closely over the coming months”.
October showed another strong month for i-Control customers, with an average of 27 days to turn stock against a 63 day average reported for the whole market. Utilizing regional market data and daily movements to support retailers in their stock management decisions - including buying and pricing to the live market – iControl customers also beat the performance for October year-on-year.
“What we can underline with our fastest selling results is the continuing importance of transparency in all areas of the new and used car markets,”Karolina Edwards-Smajda added.
“For example our pricing data tells us that none of the top ten fastest sellers nationally in October sold for more than their optimum price point, according to Auto Trader’s comprehensive data on valuations.
That may be the early signs of a softening of the market as the festive season approaches but dealers in the South, the South East and the South West can be reassured as values remain robust.”
Auto Trader publishes top ten lists for fastest selling cars every month. At least 30 sales of each make and model variant must be made to qualify for inclusion in the charts.

In terms of models, Vauxhall’s Insignia was the only car to take its place in both May and June top tens. The 2010 petrol hatchback took fifth spot in May and fourth place in June. The 2011 Insignia took ninth spot in June too.

London, the North West and Scotland proved to be regional hot spots for speedy sales last month. On average cars in the top ten sold in just 16 days in London with the 2011 BMW 3 Series diesel manual taking just nine days to turn. In the North East, cars in the top ten sold in just 15 days with the 2014 Ford Galaxy MPV diesel taking just 6 days to turn. In Scotland top ten cars turned, on average, in 18 days.

“Stalwarts like the Nissan Qashqai continue to demonstrate their value as a forecourt acquisition, but this month we’ve also seen less obvious cars like the Chrysler Ypsilon make it into the national top ten,” said Karolina Edwards-Smajda Auto Trader Director, Retailer & Consumer Products. “What’s really interesting however is the variation in speed-of-sale by different regions.
“In London, the North West and Scotland, cars in the top ten took an average of less than 20 days to sell. However, when looking at the East of England, Wales and the South West, we found that they took more than twice as long to leave forecourts: the average top ten model taking more than 40 days to turn.”

Volkswagen offers new online reserve facility for their huge range of second hand used cars.

Volkswagen has further enhanced its multi-award-winning ‘Das WeltAuto’ used car scheme and website by adding a new ‘Reserve Online’ function.  This builds on the success of the ‘Online Offer’ feature which was introduced last year and allowed customers to express an interest in a car they had found via Volkswagen’s online used car locator.
Reserve Online additionally enables them to pay a £500 deposit quickly and easily using PayPal’s secure payment facility.
The Das WeltAuto website – www.volkswagen.co.uk/used – is already comprehensive and incorporates a fully responsive (for all devices) used car locator which is easy and intuitive to use.

When customers have found a car that suits, they are given contact details and a map for the Retailer, full information on the car, its features and tech spec, a reminder of all the standard Das WeltAuto features and guarantees plus the facility to generate a finance quote and understand what their monthly payments would be.
Once they’re sure it’s the car they’re after they can make an enquiry, make an offer, or reserve the car.  This last facility has been added in response to customer demand, with purchasers wanting the surety of knowing they had placed a deposit on a car and had secured it for purchase.
Should the customer see the car at the selling Retailer’s premises within 48 hours and decide against the purchase, they would then be entitled to a full refund back to their PayPal account.
Commenting on the new feature, Ian Plummer, Head of Sales Operations for Volkswagen UK said: ‘Most customers nowadays start their journey to a used car purchase on the internet, and there is a growing expectation that they should also be able to formalise the sale remotely and outside normal trading hours.
Using Reserve Online and PayPal, we can offer them a secure way of placing a deposit and then giving them time to view and collect the vehicle, adding to the reassurance that our customers feel when buying used cars from the Volkswagen franchised network and its Das WeltAuto programme.’
The first customer to use the new system was Saikat Chatterjee who located a 57-plate Volkswagen CC at EuroCanterbury in Kent.  He found the system easy to use and has now taken delivery of his new car.
Das WeltAuto, with its distinctive orange branding, is now an established used car ‘brand’ for Volkswagen and stands for used cars customers can trust – guaranteed.  Buying a car with the Das WeltAuto seal of approval is designed to give customers the same exceptional level of experience as a new car customer, with complete confidence and peace of mind.
Standard elements of all Das WeltAuto approved cars include 142 pre-sale checks, a minimum 12 month warranty, 30 day/1000 mile 'No Quibble' Exchange Policy, minimum 12 months roadside assistance for the UK and Europe, independent vehicle history and mileage tests, service history checks and five days free Volkswagen insurance.
