And yet MORE recalls from the General, Saab, Buick and Chevy, when will it all end ?

General Motors will recall all current generation Chevrolet Camaros because a driver’s knee can bump the key FOB and cause the key to inadvertently move out of the “run” position, with a corresponding reduction or loss of power. 
The issue, which may primarily affect drivers sitting close to the steering column, was discovered by GM during internal testing following the ignition switch recall earlier this year.
“Discovering and acting on this issue quickly is an example of the new norm for product safety at GM,” said Jeff Boyer, vice president of GM Global Safety. 
The Camaro ignition system meets all GM engineering specifications and is unrelated to the ignition system used in Chevrolet Cobalts and other small cars included in the ignition switch recall.
GM is aware of three crashes that resulted in four minor injuries that it believes may be attributed to this condition.

The company will change the Camaro key to a standard design from one in which the key is concealed in the FOB and is opened by pushing a button. The change will make the ignition key and FOB independent of each other, so that inadvertent contact with the FOB won’t move the key from the “run” position.  There are 464,712 Camaros from the 2010-2014 model years in the U.S. included in the recall. Including Canada, Mexico and exports, the total recall population is 511,528.
Separately, GM also announced two safety recalls and one non-compliance recall involving a total of 65,121 cars in the U.S. all three of which were reported to the NHTSA on Wednesday, June 11, 2014. Including Canada, Mexico and exports, the total recall population is 69,839.
In all cases, customers will receive letters from GM letting them know when they can bring their vehicles into a dealership, where the recall repairs will be performed free of charge and courtesy transportation would be provided as needed.
The recalls:
28,789 Saab 9-3 convertibles from the 2004-2011 model years for an automatic tensioning system cable in the driver’s side front seat belt retractor that could break. If the cable were to break, seat belt webbing spooled out by the driver would not retract. The convertibles and sedans were investigated at the same time, but the convertible parts were not identical to the sedan parts. GM has since learned of customer complaints to the NHTSA for the convertibles. Dealers will replace the driver’s side retractor in the recalled vehicles. In addition, GM has issued a special coverage, so that if the same repair is required to the passenger side retractor it will be covered for the life of the vehicle. GM also extended the special coverage for passenger side belt retractors on the 2004 Saab 9-3 sedan from the original 10-year coverage to the life of the vehicle, like the convertibles. GM is unaware of any crashes, injuries or fatalities due to this condition.
21,567 Chevrolet Sonic 2012 model year compacts equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission and a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine for a condition in which the transmission turbine shaft may fracture as a result of a supplier quality issue. If this were to occur in first or second gear, the vehicle could not upshift into third through sixth gears. If the turbine shift fractured while in one of the higher gears, the vehicle would coast until it was moving slow enough to downshift into first or second gear. In both instances, a malfunction indicator lamp may illuminate. If driven in this condition for a long period of time, all forward gears may become inoperable. The engine would continue to run and all power accessories would function. Dealers will replace the transmission turbine shaft. GM is unaware of any crashes, injuries or fatalities related to this condition.
14,765 model year 2014 Buick LaCrosse sedans because a wiring splice in the driver’s door may corrode and break. That may communicate incorrect information to circuits that control the door chime and allow passenger windows, rear windows and the sunroof to function when the vehicle is turned off and the driver is not in the vehicle.  In addition, a chime will not sound when the driver’s door is opened if the key is in the ignition.
Dealers will inspect the driver door window motor harness and, if necessary, replace an electrical splice. GM is unaware of any thefts, crashes, injuries or fatalities related to this condition.

VW Group posts large net gains in sales for the first five months.

The Volkswagen Group delivered 4.11 (January-May 2013: 3.87; +6.3 per cent)* million vehicles from January to May. The company handed over 864,600 (May 2013: 816,300; +5.9 per cent)* units to customers in May. “The Volkswagen Group brands delivered over four million vehicles for the first time in the period to May. That is an encouraging development, particularly in view of the mixed performance on world markets,” Group Board Member for Sales Christian Klingler said in Wolfsburg on Friday. “Even though our Group and its brands are in an excellent position to respond to the different trends in the world regions, market demands still remain challenging,” Klingler continued.
Group brands delivered a total of 1.64 (1.53; +7.6 per cent) million vehicles on the overall European market from January to May, of which 866,200 (799,000; +8.4 per cent) were handed over in Western Europe (excluding Germany).In the home market of Germany, 502,200 (473,100; +6.1 per cent) customers chose a new car from the Volkswagen Group. Europe’s largest automaker delivered 274,000 (254,000; +7.9 per cent) vehicles in Central and Eastern Europe. 113,800 (120,900; -5.8 per cent) units were handed over to customers in Russia during the same period.

The Group delivered 350,400 (360,000; -2.7 per cent) vehicles in the North America region from January to May, of which 237,900 (249,300; -4.6 per cent) were handed over in the United States. In the South America region, the Volkswagen Group delivered 296,000 (375,200; -21.1 per cent) vehicles to customers during the same period, of which 229,500 (276,300; -16.9 per cent) were handed over in Brazil.
The Group continued to record very encouraging figures in the Asia-Pacific region, where1.66 (1.43; +16.0 per cent) million vehicles were delivered to customers in the period to May, of which 1.51 (1.28; +17.7 per cent) million units were handed over in China, the Group’s largest single market.
Outline of developments at Group brands
The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand delivered 2.55 (2.44; +4.4 per cent) million vehicles to customers worldwide from January to May. The brand developed particularly well in the Asia-Pacific region, handing over 1.25 (1.07; +17.0 per cent) million vehicles there. Volkswagen Passenger Cars delivered 712,700 (688,800; +3.5 per cent) vehicles to customers on the overall European market, with the brand recording a 5.9per cent rise in deliveries in Western Europe, where 372,200 (351,400) units were handed over.
Audi delivered 713,900 (640,200; +11.5 per cent) vehicles worldwide in the period to May. Deliveries by the premium brand from Ingolstadt continued to develop well in the Asia-Pacific region, where 258,700 (218,500; +18.4 per cent) models were handed over to customers. Audi delivered 81,700 (73,600) vehicles in the North America region during the same period, an increase of 10.9 per cent.
The sports car manufacturer Porsche delivered a total of 71,500 (67,300; +6.3 per cent) vehicles in the first five months. Demand was particularly high in the Asia-Pacific region, where 22,100 (20,000; +10.7 per cent) vehicles were delivered, and in Western Europe (excluding Germany), where 10,900 (9,300; +16.5 per cent) models were handed over to customers.
ŠKODA delivered a total of 428,000 (377,200; +13.5 per cent) vehicles from January to May. The Czech automaker performed particularly well on European markets, delivering 117,300 (96,600; +21.4 per cent) vehicles in Western Europe (excluding Germany) and 112,900 (96,700; +16.8 per cent) units in Central and Eastern Europe. In Germany, the brand grew deliveries by 14.1 per cent to 61,600 (53,900) vehicles.
SEAT delivered 162,500(149,100; +8.9 per cent) vehicles worldwide in the period to May, thus continuing its upward trend. The Spanish brand enjoyed particularly strong growth in the Central and Eastern Europe region, where deliveries rose by 81.1 per cent to 10,400 (5,700) vehicles, and in Western Europe (excluding Germany), where the company handed over 94,100 (86,200; +9.1 per cent) units. In Germany, SEAT delivered over 34,500 (30,700; +12.3 per cent) models.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles delivered 178,300(184,400; -3.3 per cent) vehicles to customers from January to May, of which 72,300 (66,800; +8.3 per cent) were handed over in Western Europe (excluding Germany). In Germany, the company delivered 45,200 (43,800; +3.1 per cent) vehicles to customers during the same period.

McLaren P1™ GTR, the Ultimate race bred car that Mclaren will build.

Twenty years on from victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans by the now legendary McLaren F1 GTR, McLaren Automotive will resurrect the iconic name from its history for the track-only edition of the award-winning McLaren P1™. The limited-run model will go into production when the 375th and final example of the road car has been completed, and in homage to its race-winning ancestor, the most powerful McLaren to date will be named the McLaren P1™ GTR.

With no need to comply with road legislation, the McLaren P1™ GTR will be designed and developed as the best drivers’ car in the world on track. This will see even greater levels of performance, grip, aerodynamics and downforce than the road car. It will also feature technologies and a powertrain more extreme with an intended power output of 1,000PS (986 bhp), race-proven slick tyres, a widened track and more aggressive and distinctive styling designed to offer optimised performance around a lap.
The decision to produce a track-only variant is in response to demand to McLaren P1™ owners. The McLaren P1™ GTR programme will be priced at £1.98m, and will include a tailored programme created for each customer to build driver capability. It will include exclusive consultations with the McLaren driver fitness team and Design Director Frank Stephenson, privileged access to one of the McLaren racing simulators, and participation in a minimum of six dedicated international drive events to be held at some of the world’s most iconic Formula 1™ circuits. Exact production numbers are still to be determined, but will be strictly limited.

Volkswagen at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2014

Volkswagen is gearing up to join thousands of automotive fans at the annual Goodwood Festival of Speed on 26-29 June. The Festival, dubbed the ‘largest motoring garden party in the world’ is a unique weekend that brings together cars, stars and motor sport ‘royalty’ to create a celebration of all things automotive. It is held in the grounds of Goodwood House, Sussex, and includes a famous hillclimb event up the drive of the house.
This year, Volkswagen UK’s stand will provide a great opportunity for fans to engage with the brand, from the latest innovations to some exciting performance models, as well as some fantastic merchandise. 
One of the biggest attractions on the stand in expected to be the radical GTI Roadster concept, which is making its UK debut, fresh from its appearance at the annual gathering of GTI fans on the shores of Woerthersee in Austria last month. Originally created as a virtual car, to feature in the Sony PlayStation® 3 classic Gran Turismo 6 (GT6), and now created as a real car, the two-seat GTI Roadster uses a 3.0-litre V6 biturbo TSI engine that produces 503 PS, and 560 Nm. With a seven-speed DSG gearbox and 4MOTION four-wheel drive, it hits 62 mph from rest in just 3.6 seconds, and goes on to 190 mph. 

Visitors to the Festival of Speed will get to experience that acceleration first-hand, as Volkswagen is inviting them not just to take a ride in the GTI Roadster, but to drive it up the famous Goodwood hill climb. Of course it’s all in the virtual world of GT6, which includes a detailed recreation of the Goodwood course, thanks to three gaming pods that will be on the stand. There’s also a draw every day to win a Sony PlayStation® 3 and a copy of GT6.
Five other Volkswagens will also be on the stand. The revised Touareg luxury SUV will be making its UK debut, in stylish R-Line form, and this will also be one of the first opportunities for the UK public to see the forthcoming new Golf GTE – Volkswagen’s first performance plug-in hybrid. The GTE combines the outstanding practicality of the regular Golf hatchback, but with 204 PS combined from its turbocharged petrol engine and electric motor – and the ability to travel over 30 miles on batteries alone – it combines a zero to 62 mph time of 7.6 seconds and a top speed of 137 mph with a CO2 figure of 35 g/km and a combined fuel figure of 188 mpg. 
Rally fans will be delighted with the Volkswagen Polo WRC car. This four-wheel drive turbocharged machine won last year’s manufacturer’s title at the first attempt, and is competing once again in this year’s championship.
For those wanting a turbocharged four-wheel drive model that’s available to buy now, there’s the powerful Golf R. With a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 300 PS matched to 4MOTION four-wheel drive, the DSG-equipped Golf R can accelerate from zero to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph.
Finally, the innovative, ultra-frugal XL1 will once again be both on the Volkswagen stand and making its way up the hill. The XL1 is the world’s most energy-efficient production vehicle, with a combined fuel consumption figure of 313 mpg and CO2 emissions of 21 g/km.

Ford and National Grid continue vehicle partnership with 200 new Transits.

Ford has provided a fleet of 200 new Ford Transit Custom vans to National Grid for use by its engineers maintaining the gas supply network. The new Ford Transit Custom models join the existing fleet of around 3,350 vehicles, the majority of which are Ford-badged.
The fully-liveried Ford Transit Custom ECOnetic models, powered by the Dagenham-built 2.2-litre TDCi 100PS diesel engine, are now fully operational throughout the National Grid fleet, equipped with racking systems, first aid equipment and special lighting. The vans are used for emergency call-outs and day-to-day by engineers, including the fitment and repair of gas metering equipment.

Ford direct sales manager Stephen Gafson, said: “The new Transit Custom is ideally suited to its role with National Grid and financially it clearly makes sense to the company, too. We are very pleased that Ford’s long association with National Grid is to continue.”
The new Ford Transit Custom has collected a total of 15 commercial vehicle awards within the last 12 months; in addition Ford was named ‘Van Manufacturer of the Year’ at the 2014 Van Fleet World awards. Joining the Transit Custom and Connect models is the all-new Ford Transit Courier and next-generation Ford Transit, completing the transformation of Ford’s Transit commercial vehicle range.

jaguar XF Sportbrake names best in class for third year running at annual Tow car awards.

The Jaguar XF Sportbrake 3.0 V6 Diesel S has been named best-in-class for the third consecutive year at the Tow Car Awards 2014.
A record 56 cars were tested for this year’s awards, with the XF Sportbrake crowned best in the hotly-contested class of cars weighing from 1700-1899kg, with more than ten entries from the premium touring and SUV segments. 

The judging panel is led by David Motton, Tow Car Editor of Practical Caravan and UK Car of the Year juror, and includes What Car? road tester Rory White and The Camping and Caravanning Club’s technical manager Ian Hewlett.  The cars are tested on four key attributes – towing, solo, practicality and buying & owning – only when all four score counts are taken into account are winners selected.
Judges’ comments on the Jaguar XF include:
“Stability at speed is as good as it gets.”
“The 3.0-litre diesel engine has power to spare.  This combination of unshakeable stability and effortless performance makes the XF Sportbrake such a relaxing car to tow with.”

Land Rover wins twice at annual tow car awards, with Discovery winning for fifth consequtive year.

Land Rover has claimed double honours in the Tow Car Awards. The Discovery remains the pre-eminent car in its class and becomes the most successful car in the history of the awards with its seventh class win in eight years. The Range Rover Sport is the first recipient of a new Money No Object Award.
The Discovery 3.0 SDV6 XS once again proved itself the class of the field in the 1900kg+ category, continuing to perform better than all its rivals, including more recently launched competitors. It is Discovery’s fifth consecutive win and its seventh award in eight years, a record unmatched by any other vehicle.
The judges declared: “It is going to take a really superb car to beat the Discovery. Power, performance, stability, practicality – it has the lot.”

The experienced panel which put the Land Rover to the test were impressed by the ease with which it tackles towing duties, in particular its “confident and decisive” overtaking and “smooth, unflustered” manner in which it can be slowed, regardless of the weight of caravan attached. It also excelled in lane changing, motorway cruising and hill starts.
The new Money No Object Award was bestowed on the Range Rover Sport 3.0 SDV6 Autobiography Dynamic, praised by the judges as a “phenomenal tow car”.
They concluded: “Put price aside for a moment, you won’t find a more capable heavyweight tow car. Dawdling traffic won’t be in the way for long, as the sprint from 30-60mph takes just 9.6 seconds, even with a big twin-axle caravan in tow.”
The Range Rover Sport’s stability was the stand-out factor, demonstrated in the awards’ lane-change test.
“Towing at 60mph feels like 40mph in the Sport, and the Range Rover seemed impervious to crosswinds, even at speeds that would have your collar felt on a British motorway,” the judges noted.
Jaguar Land Rover UK Managing Director, Jeremy Hicks said: “These awards are a great reward for the strength of Land Rover design and engineering.
“Discovery continues to set the benchmark for its class, in spite of the arrival of newer rivals on the market, and with Range Rover Sport we are delighted that independent experts consider it offers the ultimate combination of prestige, luxury and performance.”

New Mercedes Traveliner to adds to Citan family, and its a full seven seater too.

A new extra-long Traveliner variant of the Mercedes-Benz Citan urban delivery van will soon be available to order, with a total of seven seats, offering outstanding flexibility.
The new variant is ideal for alternating between carrying crew and cargo in commercial applications, use as a taxi, or for a mix of professional and private use: as a highly flexible Traveliner with up to seven seats, the Citan is able to cater to a multitude of different requirements.
Based on the extra-long version of the Citan (length 4,705 mm), with a permissible gross vehicle weight of 2.2 t, the extra-long Traveliner offers a new third seat row, consisting of two individual seats.

These are independently adjustable fore-and-aft by 130 mm, and can be individually folded down, or removed as required. They can be easily accessed once the seats in the middle row have been folded down. Passengers in the rear row have additional stowage facilities in the side wall panels.
Depending on the position of the individual seats, the load space behind them will take between 300 and 400 litres of luggage. Removing the seats in the third row increases the cargo capacity of Citan to 2,200 l. And if the middle row of three seats is folded down too, the load space is enlarged again to 3,500 l.
The Citan is highly practical, as highlighted by the standard equipment for the extra-long Traveliner, which includes a flexible cover for the load compartment, as well as load-securing rings in the floor for securing the cargo when the seats are folded down or removed.
Available to order from August 2014 in the UK, the new model variant offers a choice of two engine output ratings, as either the Citan 109 CDI (90 hp) or the Citan 111 CDI (110 hp), with prices starting from £17,810 plus VAT.

The Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations team of expert designers and engineers will be led by Paul Newsome, Director of Special Vehicle Operations, recently recruited from Williams Advanced Engineering. Working on present and future vehicle portfolios, the team will create halo vehicles ranging from high luxury to extreme performance.
To support the delivery of these products, Jaguar Land Rover will be investing in a new dedicated Technical Centre, located in the West Midlands area of the UK, close to the current headquarters.
A team of 150 Jaguar Land Rover specialists will be based at the new Technical Centre. Its unique facilities will feature a customer commissioning suite for bespoke services and premium vehicle personalisation, Formula 1-inspired flexible workshops and a fully automated paint facility.
In addition, a new heritage vehicle workshop will be created at Browns Lane in Coventry, the spiritual home of Jaguar. This will be the production site for the six recently announced lightweight E-Type recreations and will also allow the newly formed heritage team to expand its servicing and restoration services. The newly expanded heritage business will be open from August 1st.

GSX-R600 Tyco Suzuki replica now available, for a limited run only.

Suzuki GB has announced a limited run of GSX-R600 Tyco Suzuki replicas, after Guy Martin and WIlliam Dunlop took the iconic supersport machine to podium placed finishes at this year's North West 200 and Isle of Man TT.
The machines have been put together with the help of TAS Racing, who have taken the GSX-R600 to two British Supersport Championship titles as well as a number of podiums and race wins on the roads too, including victory at this year's Spring Cup at Oliver's Mount in the hands of Martin.
The GSX-R600 comes with a Tyco Suzuki replica paint scheme - put together by the same people responsible for the team's race bike livery - a Yoshimura R11 silencer, Genuine Suzuki double-bubble race screen, pillion seat cowl, as well as a Suzuki paddock stand.

Renault launches new Trafic and Master, to finish a complete refurb of its Commercial range.

Since 1998, Renault has stood out as the undisputed number one van manufacturer both in France and Europe. To consolidate this position, which saw it take a market share of 14.6 per cent in 2013, Renault will soon have renewed its entire LCV line-up with the introduction of All-New Trafic and New Master coming not long after the release of New Kangoo in the middle of 2013.
Production of All-New Trafic has been brought back from Nissan’s plant in Spain to Renault’s Sandouville factory in France. Meanwhile, New Master and Kangoo will continue to be manufactured in Batilly and Maubeuge respectively, which means that all Renault’s LCVs are now made in France. 
OVERVIEW
Having topped the European LCV market since 1998, Renault is set to renew its Trafic range this summer. As the market leader in France, Trafic II is about to round off its career in brilliant fashion since it was still the third best-selling LCV in Europe as recently as April 2014. To defend its status, All-New Trafic combines the strengths of its predecessor with a series of key improvements. In addition to its new, robust and dynamic design which features the Renault brand’s new styling cues, All-New Trafic is even bigger, making it more comfortable and practical than ever. The front and rear overhangs have been extended by 10cm and 11cm respectively, while maximum load lengths of 3.75m and 4.15m for the L1 and L2 versions respectively establish a new benchmark for the market. At the same time, the bulkhead has been located 3cm further back in order to enhance comfort inside the extensively revised cabin.

Designed to serve as a mobile office, its cabin features a raft of bespoke equipment, including smartphone and tablet cradles, laptop computer storage, and a removable A4-size clipboard to simplify the lives of business customers. All-New Trafic is powered by the R9M engine which is available with either one (90 and 115hp) or two (Twin Turbo, 120 and 140hp) turbochargers, twin turbo variants are fitted with Stop & Start as standard. All-New Trafic combines performance with fuel efficiency and as much as 49.6mpg (combined)* with the ENERGY dCi 120 engine under the bonnet. On average, business users will see their fuel economy improve by 5.8mpg (combined) compared with Trafic II, a saving of over £1,300** over a period three years/60k miles. Order books for All-New Trafic are open now, prior to arriving in dealerships from September.
Master, Renault’s large van which is manufactured in Batilly, France, also ranks highly in its segment. In addition to being the top seller in France, Algeria and Morocco, it enjoyed an 11.9 per cent share of the European market (fourth position) and a 13.4 per cent share in the Euromed-Africa region (second). The model’s renewal in 2014 seeks to reinforce its popularity and ensure that it continues to meet the needs of its customers. To help achieve that goal, its engine range features Twin Turbo technology which combines extra horsepower (up to 165hp) with lower fuel consumption (for a saving of 1.5 litres/100km*). New Master’s travelling comfort and safety credentials have been boosted, too, with the fitment of latest-generation ESC – incorporating Extended Grip, Hill Start Assist and Trailer Sway Control** – as well as a Wide View Mirror which eliminates the rear blind spot. Last but not least, the New Master range now includes a rear-wheel drive L4 panel van version (H2 and H3) with single rear wheels, developed especially with express courier businesses in mind. In addition to all these new features, the latest version of the model comes with a redesigned, dynamic and modern front end incorporating Renault’s latest brand identity. Order books open from June and models will reach showrooms in September.

A NEW, ROBUST AND DYNAMIC DESIGN
All-New Trafic’s robust yet dynamic lines include a front end that embodies the Renault brand’s new styling signature, while radical changes have been made to the interior. Designed to be both practical and comfortable, the cabin features passenger car cues for an attractive, quality feel, along with 14 storage solutions to house the everyday items employed by business users.

Robust, dynamic exterior styling
The assertive front end incorporates expressive, slender head light units which frame the large air intake. In keeping with the brand’s styling identity, the large, vertically-positioned Renault logo sits at the centre over a contrasting black trim strip which tops the grille. An area of body colour between the grille and front bumper adds further to New Trafic’s status-enhancing stance. Meanwhile, the windscreen is more steeply raked than that of Trafic II and marks a distinct break with the line of the bonnet, a cue more commonly associated with passenger cars. The side view is also more dynamic thanks to a combination of taut lines and structured forms, while customers can opt for Sport versions which feature a body coloured front bumper, rear tail light columns, a gloss black logo surround and a chrome grille finish.

The robustness and user-friendliness acclaimed by owners of All-New Trafic’s predecessor have been carried over, including wraparound bumpers and broad, carefully-positioned side protective mouldings. Meanwhile, the square form of the rear end points to the van’s considerable carrying capacity.
New Trafic will be available from launch in a choice of 10 different body colours.

A practical, comfortable interior
The cabin has undergone some radical changes and now features up to 14 storage solutions for a total capacity of 90 litres (see ‘An office on wheels’ section) to accommodate the sort of everyday items business users employ. The modern dashboard recalls that of a passenger car and, in keeping with other Renault models, incorporates a totem-style centre console which houses the multimedia system and climate control switches.

An MPV-like driver’s environment
All-New Renault Trafic offers the comfort and driving position similar to those of an MPV. New seats ensure welcome lateral support thanks to the use of higher-density foam and more enveloping forms. The front bench seat incorporates lateral strengthening for both the seat cushions and passenger seat backs. Comfort is further enhanced by the inclusion of an armrest built into the door panel.

Compared with Trafic II, the driving position seat cushion has been lowered by 36mm, while the seat back is more reclined in order to get closer to the sort of driving position associated with MPVs. Along with the fact that the bulkhead has been located 3cm further back and the height- and reach-adjustable steering wheel, the number of ways the seat can be adjusted (height, fore-aft and seat back angle) enables the driver to find the most comfortable position. Thanks to a pump system, the lever for which falls readily to hand by the side of the seat, the height of the driving position can be adjusted through a range of 60mm. Fore-aft travel is 200mm, an improvement of 18mm over Trafic II (with the same seat back position). The driver’s seat, steering wheel and pedals are perfectly aligned to minimise the need for drivers to readjust their position for longer journeys. 
A CABIN DESIGNED TO SERVE AS A MOBILE OFFICE
The cabin has been thought through to serve as an office away from the office and packs clever solutions to ensure that the driver’s mobile phone, tablet and laptop computer are always within easy reach. New Trafic’s cabin also provides a market-best total storage capacity of 90 litres to simplify life on the move for business users.

An office on wheels
The mobile phone cradle is ideally positioned on the dashboard within easy reach of the driver, to the left of the steering wheel. The mount adapts to a wide range of mobile phones of sizes up to 4.7 inches (screen). Phones can be charged using the nearby USB port.  The cradle pivots for both vertical and horizontal display.

retractable tablet cradle is located above the radio and suits tablets with screen sizes of between 4.8 and 10.6 inches (NB: the iPad is 9.7”, the iPad Mini is 7.9” and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is 10.1”, etc.) and permits easy access to these work or navigation tools.
Tipping the central seat back forward and lifting the lid built into the seat back reveals a space where a laptop computer can be housed. Drivers can either store their computer out of sight or use this surface as a support for their PC. It can be turned perpendicularly to face either the passenger or the driver. This space can house most laptop computers of up to 17 inches in size.
When the seat back is tipped forward, a clipboard can be clipped vertically and turned to face either the passenger or the driver. A clip at the top of the board enables A4 paperwork to be held firmly in place. Drivers can consequently follow route indications or look at their list of deliveries without their forward vision being hampered.  
Class-leading storage capacity
The All-New Renault Trafic provides a market-best total storage capacity of 90 litres. There are 14 bins, trays and cubbies of different forms and sizes. They range from 0.2 to 54 litres and are specially designed to house the everyday items employed by business users, including water bottles, cans, cups, mobile phones, tablets, notebooks, pens, hard hats, boxes, etc. They are all carefully integrated into the cabin’s overall design and are positioned to be as practical as possible.

The largest storage space has a capacity of 54 litres and is situated beneath the front passenger bench seat. There are no compartments, so it can hold a wide variety of loose or bulky items. This solution has been tried and tested on Renault Master and enables equipment and tools to be kept out of sight, something business customers will understandably appreciate.
Connectivity and multimedia systems for enhanced driving comfort
The audio range consists of four 1 or 2 DIN radios, with or without CD player, all feature DAB as standard.
The entry-level system features a 1 DIN radio complete with Bluetooth® hands-free telephony and a fascia-mounted USB port and jack socket. Another USB port is provided alongside the mobile phone cradle (option). These different connection solutions permit music stored on portable multimedia devices to be played back via audio streaming.
The premium audio system available for All-New Trafic combines with the Renault R-Link Evolution® multimedia system (available at the end of 2014). In addition to its basic connection solutions (USB and Jack), it incorporates a slot for an SD card to enable the mapping management, the reading of audio tracks and display of photos on the seven-inch display. 
A choice of multimedia systems:
MEDIA NAV and R-Link
The MEDIA NAV system is incorporated into the dashboard’s centre console and covers most multimedia needs. It comes with a seven-inch (18cm) touchscreen display and a radio, as well as Bluetooth® connectivity to permit audio streaming and hands-free mobile phone use. It is also possible to connect portable devices thanks to the fascia-mounted USB port and jack socket. MEDIA NAV incorporates Nav & GO navigation with 2D and 2,5D (bird view) displays. Using the USB port and a bespoke web interface, customers can also with their computer easily update their NAVTEQ mapping data.
All-New Trafic is also available with the high-end R-Link multimedia system. The very latest version of the in-dash R-Link multimedia system comes with a capacitive screen (allowing zoom and scroll functions) and receives digital radio. R-Link also features:
  • Voice commands (phone, navigation and application),
  • Text To Speech (TTS) which permits emails (if eMail application is available in the vehicle) and RSS feeds to be read out loud,
  • TomTom® connected navigation complete with LIVE services, including the -arket’s best real-time traffic information,
  • Access to the applications available from the Renault R-Link StoreR-Link Evolution® will become available for Trafic at the end of 2014.
Thanks to R & GO®, portable devices can be used as navigation systems
R & GO® is an application (Android and iOS) for tablets and smart phones. Once downloaded, this intuitive application allows smart phones and tablets to connect automatically with the vehicle’s radio. Once set up, they display a choice of four clear icons which provide access to bespoke driving-related functions:

  1. 3D navigation (Copilot® Premium, the renowned GPS navigation application), complete with the Active traffic information system.
  2. Hands-free use of the telephone (calls, call history, numbers, Bluetooth® connectivity, etc.),
  3. Multimedia (control of the radio, MP3 sources and web radios; recognition of tracks and artists),
  4. The vehicle’s trip computer (Renault Driving eco², additional information to that displayed on the dashboard, e-guide).
The mobile phone and tablet cradle available for All-New Trafic allow smart phones and tablets to be used safely as independent navigation systems.
AN EVEN MORE PRACTICAL CARGO AREA
Flaps incorporated at the bottom of the bulkhead and beneath the front bench seat provide market-leading carrying ability in terms of maximum load length (up to 4.15 metres for the L2 version). Other new user-friendly features have been added to the All-New Trafic range, including an overhead rack which enables use of the cargo area to be optimised.

The market’s longest load-carrying ability
Thanks to two innovative flaps, All-New Trafic is the only van in its class that can carry items of up to 3.75 metres (L1 version) or 4.15 metres (L2) in length with the rear doors closed. One flap is located at the bottom of the bulkhead and increases maximum load length by 41cm, while the second is situated beneath the passenger seat to further increase maximum load length by 80cm.
In the open position, the bulkhead flap provides an aperture that is 510mm wide x 228mm high. It is held open by two magnets and can even be completely removed if required. Meanwhile, a clever opening mechanism for the front passenger seat cushion frees up further space beneath the bench seat to enable loading into the passenger footwell.

A carrying capacity of up to 8.6 cubic metres (L2H2 version)
The All-New Trafic van range provides a choice of two lengths and two heights – as well as crew van, platform cab (available in 2015) and passenger versions (up to nine seats), for a total range of over 60 derivatives. The carrying capacity of the panel van versions ranges from 5.2 to 8.6 cubic metres. All-New Trafic is 210mm longer than Trafic II for a total additional carrying capacity of 200 litres (H1 version) or 300 litres (H2). Carrying capacity is further maximised by the interior’s cubic forms and the very low slant of the body sides. The L1 version is capable of accommodating three euro pallets or eleven BA13 (8’x4’) plasterboards.

Trafic II owners will appreciate that the size of All-New Trafic’s rear door aperture and the form of its cargo area are identical to the former-generation model, because it means they can re-use their existing interior fittings.
SNOEKS crew van, made at Sandouville
The crew van version of All-New Trafic is made by Snoeks, the European benchmark crew van maker. The crew van version can be based on either of the two lengths (L1 and L2) and is made directly at the factory in Sandouville which represents an advantage in terms of delivery times, quality and logistical arrangements.

  • One or two sliding side doors,
  • Rear doors or tailgate,
  • Windows for second row passengers,

Depending on equipment level, rear passengers benefit from enhanced comfort and other features. The rear bench seat can be ordered with armrests, height-adjustable head rests, ISOFIX anchorage for the outer two seats and a removable storage bin concealed beneath the cushion. The rear seat back can even be reclined. Sunblinds, reading lights, an additional 12V power supply, loudspeakers and a door sill light are also available for higher-end versions.
Unprecedented equipment for All-New Trafic for greater user-friendliness
To optimise carrying ability, H1 versions of All-New Trafic can be specified with an overhead rack of a carrying capacity of 13kg (option or accessory). The roof cross member has been reinforced to take the extra weight. This 163cm-long, 28cm-high rack is capable of accommodating around 10 two-metre copper pipes or a step ladder, for example. It weighs just 7kg, is easy to remove and can be fitted on the right- or left-hand side of the cargo rea. Its width (65cm) leaves sufficient space for users to walk around inside the van or, quite simply, use the full height of the opposite side of the cargo area for loading.

To tie down items in the cargo area, All-New Trafic can be specified with up to 18 lashing rings for the L2 version, including eight on the floor (L1 version: up to 16 lashing rings, with six on the floor).
Two bulkhead hooks (optional) allow work clothes to be hung in the cargo area.
Another option is a 12V power supply (10A / 120W) on the rear right door pillar, ideal for charging power tools, for example.
A hands-free card is now available for All-New Trafic (panel van, crew van and passenger versions). It has two “hands-free” functions, since it enables the engine to be started or switched off by simply pressing the ‘Start’ button. The doors can also be opened and locked without having to use a key by pressing on the button located on the driver’s door, passenger door or rear door handle.
By pressing on the card’s ‘boot’ button, it is possible to open only the rear doors and not the driver’s or passenger front doors. This function is particularly practical when loading and unloading frequently.

To allow entry while ensuring that the cargo area remains secure, a single door opening function is available whatever the type of key (including hands-free card). A single press on the button with the “lock open” on the key opens the driver’s door only, while a second press releases the locks of the other doors.
All keys (including hands-free cards) can be specified with an optional override function which locks all the doors and prevents them being opened from the inside.
A wide range of accessories are available for the All- New Trafic, many concern the cargo area. In the case of the panel van versions, the list includes plylining, Ready4Work racking, an interior roof rack (see above), tow bars, etc.
An extensive range of conversion options
Some 30 percent of Trafic LCVs undergo conversions which, to ensure optimum quality, can be carried out by Renault Tech or a Renault-approved specialist (360 worldwide). All-New Trafic comes with factory-fitted features to facilitate conversions and broaden their scope. For example:

  • A double crankshaft pulley allows a refrigeration or hydraulic compressor to be fitted in addition to the climate control compressor. As a result, the cargo area of insulated and refrigerated versions of All-New Trafic can be chilled while still allowing occupants to benefit from climate control inside the cabin. These conversions are compatible with Stop&Start thanks to a ‘fast tick-over’ function which prevents the engine from being switched off automatically if the cargo area is in the process of being chilled.  
  • An additional junction box to permit bodybuilders to wire into the vehicle’s CAN and calibrate the necessary data to ensure that the conversion functions safely (speed data, parking brake position, engine speed, etc.).
ALL-NEW TRAFIC PASSENGER, COMFORTABLE AND MODULAR
The passenger carrying version of All-New Trafic comfortably accommodates up to nine people and offers ample luggage space. Indeed, even with nine people on board, All-New Trafic still boasts a carrying capacity up to the luggage cover of 550 and 890 litres for the L1 and L2 versions respectively. The easy modularity of the two rear bench seats ensures a choice of several layouts to further increase the boot capacity. Meanwhile, the backs of the second row’s outer seat can be lowered to facilitate access to the third row bench seat, the back of which can itself be tipped forward over the cushion and then folded forward against the back of the second row bench to free up a flat floor of 1.55 metres in length. This extends the carrying capacity of the L2 version to 3.4m3 (L1 version: 1.15 metres and 2.5m3). Finally, the two rear bench seats can be entirely removed to free up the same carrying capacity as the panel van version (N1 versions only).
Boot volume can be further adapted thanks to a luggage cover which can be positioned at one of two heights or even positioned vertically in order to compartmentalise the load carrying space.

In addition to generous rear knee room of 121mm, rear head room is 1,017mm and elbow room is 1,651mm to ensure a comfortable ride for second row passengers. Third row passengers haven’t been forgotten, either, since they benefit from class-leading leg room of 110mm.
Passenger versions of All-New Trafic are equipped as standard with a glazed sliding side door, with a second available as an option. With an aperture of 907mm (sill height: 600mm), they facilitate safe access to the rear seats without encroaching on road or pavement space. 
NEW, RESPONSIVE, ECONOMICAL ENGINES
Renault’s engine specialists have provided All-New Trafic with a new range of engines featuring technologies derived from Renault’s success in Formula 1. These engines have been adapted to meet the needs of business customers and combine fuel efficiency with responsive performance. In the case of Twin Turbo versions, fuel economy of49.6mpg & 47.9mpg (combined)* (149g and 155g of CO2/km*) for the passenger carrying and panel van versions respectively.

Four engines to suit all needs
The two engines with a single turbo (variable geometry) deliver an average fuel-economy improvement of 5.8mpg* compared to those in Trafic II.
  1. dCi 90 (260Nm), This engine is efficient, affordable and perfectly suited to use in built-up areas.
  2. dCi 115 (300Nm), Thanks to its extra power and torque, this engine is more versatile and suitable for use out of town, as well as in more urban  areas. It can cope easily with heavy loads and provides a great blend of dynamic performance and fuel economy which stands at an impressive 43.5mpg (combined)*.
    The engines which feature Twin Turbo technology are more powerful, more responsive and more economical to run, with fuel economy of over 47mpg (combined) *. Performance is responsive and pull-away from standstill is impressive, even when carrying heavy loads.
  3. Energy dCi 120 Twin Turbo (320Nm), with Stop & Start.
    Powered by this new engine, All-New Trafic returns best-in-class fuel economy, i.e. 47.9mpg (combined)* (155 g CO2/km*) for LCV versions and 49.6mpg (combined)* (149 g CO2/km*) for Passenger versions. It combines fuel efficiency with comfort and responsive performance. Compared with the single turbo dCi 115, it deliver 4.4mpg (combined) better fuel economy, yet delivers crisper pull-away and mid-range acceleration (standstill to 62mph in 12.0 seconds instead of 12.4s).
  4. Energy dCi 140 Twin Turbo (340Nm), with Stop & Start.
    This powerplant is more powerful still and delivers crisp pull-away (0-62mph in 10.9s) and responsive mid-range acceleration from low revs thanks to the availability of 270Nm of torque at engine speeds as low as 1,250rpm. Yet fuel economy of up to 46.3mpg (combined)*. This engine is the ideal choice for hauling heavy loads, long journeys, pulling trailers or driving in mountainous regions.
These Euro5 engines are designed to comply with Euro6b emissions legislation.
Drivers’ can further reduce their fuel consumption by up to 10%* by using the vehicle’s eco driving aids (ECO mode button, driving style indicators and gearshift indicators).

Twin Turbo technology
Twin Turbo diesel engine technology combines the delivery of high torque at low engine speeds (80 per cent of peak torque available from 1,250rpm) and power at higher revs to enhance driving enjoyment.
The system comprises two sequential turbochargers:
  • The first, low inertia turbo delivers high torque at low revs to provide strong pull-away and mid-range acceleration performance without having to shift down.
  • The second turbo takes over at higher engine speeds to boost power (specific power output: 87.5hp/litre) for smooth, dependable acceleration.
The immediate advantage of the engine’s optimised efficiency is low fuel consumption and CO2emissions. Stop & Start and ESM (Energy Smart Management), which recovers braking and deceleration energy, are standard features.
Renault’s new Energy dCi Twin Turbo engine benefits from Renault’s F1 expertise
Renault has broken new ground in the realm of downsizing with the introduction of Twin Turbo technology for its diesel Energy engines. This technology allows the same performance to be achieved as a two-litre powerplant while at the same time cutting fuel consumption by up to 15 percent (compared with the dCi 115 available for Trafic II).
Based on the Energy dCi 130, it employs a number of technologies derived from the brand’s successful involvement in Formula 1:
  • Transverse water flow system for enhanced engine cooling, 
  • U-Flex piston rings for a better trade-off between friction and lubrication,
  • DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) superfinishing to minimise friction
Other new technologies shared by both the single turbo and Twin Turbo versions contribute to improving the engine’s strength and bringing down fuel consumption thanks to more efficient combustion and reduced friction:
  • Reinforced aluminium pistons,
  • Softer piston rings for less friction,
  • Enhanced water flow through the cylinder head for more efficient cooling,
  • Helical Slide Honing (HSH) for improved bedding-in at the factory. This means that customers are able to benefit from the performance of their All-New Trafic from new.
Fuel-efficient engines for lower running costs
With fuel economy standing at just 47.9mpg (combined)* (155 g CO2/km*) for LCV version, and even as low as 49.6mpg (combined)* (149 g CO2/km*) in the case of the Passenger  version, All-New Trafic is among the most fuel-efficient vehicles in its class and provides an average saving of 5.8mpg (combined) over its predecessor. This works out as a saving of approximately £1,300 over a period of three years / 60k miles. This has been achieved thanks to aerodynamic improvements, weight saving measures and, above all, the use of advanced technology, including:

  • Downsizing,
  • Twin Turbo technology,
  • Stop & Start,
  • ESM (Electric Smart Management) deceleration energy recovery,
  • Low rolling resistance tyres,
  • Reduced front disc brake rub (when not braking),
  • Electric power steering.
The service interval is every two years/25,000miles (whichever threshold is reached first). The timing chain does not require servicing.
Reassuring, comfortable on-road dynamics
All-New Trafic provides a level of steering precision and ride comfort comparable with that of an MPV thanks to a MacPherson-type front suspension layout complete with anti-roll bar connected to the spring-damper assemblies via articulated mountings. All-New Trafic’s travelling comfort is further enhanced by new front dampers which ensure better road holding as the body rolls.

The rear flexible beam suspension arrangement with pull rods and a Panhard rod improves acoustic comfort by filtering out road noise and further contributes to ensuring a level of handling performance associated with the market’s best MPVs. The rate of the hydraulic rear dampers varies as a function of the vehicle’s load. The heavier the load, the firmer the handling becomes.
All the engines come with a dual-mass damping flywheel which filters out vibrations, especially at tick-over and low engine speeds.
Enhanced acoustic comfort
Careful attention has been paid to All-New Trafic’s windscreen acoustics. The screen itself contains a special resin which enables it to filter out vibrations, minimise hum and restrict the transmission of engine noise to the cabin. It also reduces high-frequency wind noise at higher speeds. Three noise dampers are incorporated into the windscreen pillar which is a priority because of its proximity to the driver’s head.

In the case of crew van and passenger versions, the new sliding side door mechanism has been engineered to improve the rigidity of the opening window with a view to minimising the passage of noise when it is closed. The system also allows passengers to choose how much they lower this window.

SAFETY
All-New Trafic comes as standard with new-generation ESC incorporating advanced technologies such as Grip Xtend, Hill Start Assist and Trailer Swing Assist. It also continues to feature rollover prevention and Load Adaptive Control. New equipment to the range includes a reversing camera, a Wide View Mirror and a double aspherical door mirror to optimise rearward vision.

Active safety
Grip Xtend
The Grip Xtend function acts on the front wheels to optimise traction on difficult surfaces (soft ground, mud, snow, sand, etc.). Simply pressing a button optimises the performance of the ESC to facilitate starting and moving at low speeds when grip is at a premium.

Hill Start Assist
This system is automatically activated when the vehicle pulls away on a gradient of more than three percent. When starting on a slope, it prevents the vehicle from moving backwards for two seconds to give the driver time to lift off the footbrake and press on the accelerator pedal. If the driver doesn’t accelerate within two seconds, the system releases the brakes to allow the vehicle to roll slowly backwards.

Trailer Swing Assist (coupled with tow bar option)
When swaying of the trailer is detected, this system reduces engine torque and alternately applies the brakes of the driven wheels to reduce the swaying movement and bring the trailer back in line.

Rollover prevention
This system automatically detects potentially hazardous situations by monitoring the angle of body roll. If this angle is deemed excessive, the brakes are applied to one or more wheels until the vehicle’s stability is restored.

Load Adaptive Control
The ESP settings automatically adjust as a function of how the vehicle is loaded in order to optimise the system’s performance. 

ABS with EBV and emergency brake assist
The ABS system incorporates EBD electronic brake force distribution and emergency brake assist to enable the driver to benefit from the vehicle’s stopping ability in a minimum lapse of time while at the same time preventing the wheels from locking to keep the vehicle in line.

Passive safety
In addition to its reinforced body structure, All-New Trafic benefits from a long list of equipment designed to protect the driver and passengers:

  • Driver and front passenger frontal airbags,
  • Lateral curtain airbags (plus thorax airbag for versions equipped with an individual front passenger seat) and an impact detection pressure sensor,
  • Seat belt load limiters,
  • Front seat belt pretensioners linked to frontal airbag,
  • Anti-whiplash head rests,
  • Anti-submarining hump for all seats,
  • Reinforced front bench seat mountings.
Specific equipment for panel van versions:
  • The bulkhead has passed the so-called ‘refrigerator’ test which stems from Renault expertise in the realm of accident studies and goes beyond basic legislative requirements. It involves performing a crash test with a fridge-size cube lashed inside the cargo area. Bulkhead deformation is checked to ensure that cabin occupants are not exposed to danger. 
  • Floor- and mid-height wall-mounted lashing rings to secure loads.
Specific equipment for passenger versions:
  • Tyre Pressure Monitoring System standard (optional for panel van versions),
  • Rear seat belt load limiters,
  • Three-point ISOFIX anchorage for outer second row seats,
  • Reinforced mountings for the repositioned third-row bench seat.
Pedestrian safety: a priority consideration during the design of New Trafic’s front end
The front overhang has been extended by 10cm in order to optimise the absorption of impact energy in the case of an accident, while hard-points located in risk areas have been eliminated. The width and stiffness of the front bumper have been revised in order to lessen the risk of pedestrian leg injuries, while space has been built into the engine compartment to prevent contact with hard-points.

New equipment to improve rearward visibility 
Reversing camera
Available as a factory fitment, the reversing camera is located alongside the rear left brake light at the top of the rear doors or tailgate. The camera's high-up location ensures a good view of the zone behind the vehicle (view of the immediate vicinity of the bumper, of the corners of the vehicle and of the space behind the top of the vehicle). The image can be seen in the rear view mirror or on the multimedia display in the case of versions equipped with R-Link. It functions in unison with the rear parking sensor to detect obstacles situated behind the vehicle when manoeuvring. The R-Link system displays the vehicle’s predicted path as a function of the steering wheel angle.

Wide View mirror
An additional wide mirror built into the reverse of the passenger-side sun visor more than doubles the angle of vision towards the rear-right of the vehicle (left-hand drive versions). In addition to helping the driver to detect the presence of another vehicle situated in the blind spot, it helps visibility when driving past other vehicles or when reversing by providing a view that is not possible with a full bulkhead fitted.

Meanwhile, the enhanced visibility provided by the double aspherical door mirror facilitates manoeuvring. Its aspherical surface minimises the blind spot, while the lower part of the mirror provides a view of the wheels and lower body side.

NEW RENAULT MASTER, THE BEST OF TECHNOLOGY 
Outstanding fuel efficiency
The chief changes to the New Master range are to be found underneath the bonnet. The number of available engines has been extended from three to four (dCi 110, dCi 125, dCi 135 and dCi 165) to accommodate the varied needs of business customers. There are improvements to both power output and fuel efficiency thanks principally to the introduction of Twin Turbo technology. Fitted with the Energy dCi 165 unit, for example, New Master consumes up to 7.3 mpg  less than its predecessor powered by the previous-generation dCi 150. This equates to a saving of £1,500  over three years**. With fuel consumption as low as 40.9 mpg*, New Master figures amongst the most economical vehicles in its class.

New Master offers a range of engines based on the M9T block (2.3 dCi) adapted to meet the varied needs of business users.
  • The two single-turbo units producing 110hp (285Nm of torque at 1,250rpm) and 125hp (310Nm at 1,250rpm) are particularly suited to use in built-up areas and moderate loads. The dCi 125 and  dCi 150 powerplants mated to a robotised gearbox are  also available.
  • The two Twin Turbo engines that are available deliver 135bhp (340Nm of torque at 1,500rpm) and 165hp (360Nm at 1,500rpm) and are ideal for intensive use with heavy loads, or for longer journeys.
Manufactured at Renault’s Cléon factory in France, which specialises in the production of high-technology engines, the latest M9T block that powers New Master has undergone a number of significant evolutions in comparison with the previous-generation version. The engine under the bonnet of New Master boasts as many as 212 new parts and 12 new technologies, resulting in fuel consumption savings, enhanced efficiency and improved acoustic comfort. The most notable new technology is the Twin Turbo, which generates more power whilst at the same time consuming less fuel.
Twin Turbo: for a responsive, efficient drive
The small turbocharger generates increased torque at low revs. The maximum torque available at 1,500rpm allows for faster, more efficient acceleration even when fully-laden. The crisp pick-up is useful to slot easily into traffic.

At higher revs, the bigger turbo assumes the reins, providing increased power and a broad useful rev band, as well as enhanced driving comfort on both regular roads and motorways. It is so flexible that the necessity to shift down is reduced, easing driver fatigue. Thanks to Twin Turbo technology and the smooth acceleration it ensures, the engine consistently works within its optimum ranges of energy efficiency, which instantly benefits fuel consumption.
Powered by the Energy dCi 165 unit, New Master’s dynamic performance places it right amongst the class’s leaders. It is capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph  in just 12 seconds, reaching 1,000m from a standing-start in 33.9 seconds and gathering speed from 50-75mph  in sixth gear in less than 16 seconds.
Fuel consumption from as low as 40.9 mpg*
The Twin Turbo engines incorporate Stop&Start and ESM (Energy Smart Management) technology (which enables energy to be recovered under braking and deceleration) and see New Master rise above the 40 mpg  threshold with fuel consumption of 40.9 mpg .

Other technologies similarly contribute to this lower fuel consumption by optimising combustion and reducing the friction between the pistons and cylinder walls, a phenomenon which accounts for as much as 40 percent of the total friction inside an engine.
The technologies which improve the engine’s combustion are:
  • A new combustion chamber and new inlet ducts to optimise air circulation,
  • A transverse water flow system for improved cylinder cooling,
  • Common rail fuel-injection boosted to 2,000 bars and optimised fuel spray for more efficient combustion,
  • High-pressure, cooled EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) for Twin Turbo versions. In the case of single-turbo versions, this is combined with low-pressure EGR which re-injects exhaust gases into the combustion chamber to minimise the quantity of unburnt gases,
  • A double acing thermostat enables the engine temperature to rise more quickly when starting from cold, which in turn reduces internal friction and yields benefits in terms of fuel consumption.
Technologies that reduce friction:
  • A variable displacement oil pump which optimises oil flow according to the engine’s needs of the moment;
  • Soft piston rings reduce friction between the pistons and cylinders,
  • DLC coated piston pins for reduced friction on the connecting rods;
  • A new machining technique for the cylinder walls known as Helical Slide Honing which improves the bedding-in of engines at the factory, thereby enabling customers to benefit from the performance potential of their New Master from new.
These engines comply with Euro5 depollution legislation and are Euro6b ready.
As is the case with New Trafic, drivers can reduce fuel consumption by as much as another 10 per cent*** by making use of New Master’s on-board eco-driving tools: ECO mode switch, the on-board eco driving tool.
Two further technologies improve acoustic comfort by reducing engine vibrations:
  • A dual mass damping flywheel,
  • A crankshaft with eight counterweights.

Fitted as standard with latest-generation ESC, New Master is one of the best vehicles in its class when it comes to active safety. The system benefits from the most recent technical innovations, including Grip Xtend, Hill Start Assist, Trailer Swing Assist, Load Adaptive Control and rollover prevention.

The Grip Xtend function is available with both front- and rear-wheel drive versions of New Master and acts on the driven wheels to optimise traction in difficult conditions (soft ground, mud, snow, sand, etc.). Simply pressing a button optimises the performance of the ESC to facilitate starting and moving at low speeds when grip is at a premium. The transfer of torque between the driven wheels can be as high as 25 per cent.

This system does not replace the optional differential lock available for rear wheel-drive versions of Master. This solution is particularly useful when driving on surfaces like mud, snow or grass, often encountered on construction sites, for example. If one of the driven wheels starts to spin, the differential lock engages automatically and stops transferring torque to the wheel on the other side. The two drive-shafts work in unison and impose the same speed on both driven wheels. The system disengages at speeds of more than 20 mph.
Hill Start Assist
This system is automatically activated when the vehicle pulls away on a gradient of more than three percent. When starting on a slope, it prevents the vehicle from moving backwards for two seconds to give the driver time to lift off the footbrake and press on the accelerator pedal. Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (passenger versions)
This alerts the driver to any anomaly – such as loss of tyre pressure or a puncture – by way of a warning light on the dashboard.

Driving comfort
New Master’s chassis combines efficiency and comfort whatever the load. The MacPherson-type front suspension arrangement complete with anti-roll bar as standard guarantees excellent handling. The rear is equipped with either single-leaf (front-wheel drive versions), two-leaf (rear-wheel drive versions with single rear wheels) or three-leaf (twin rear wheels) suspension. It ensures a high level of comfort even when carrying a full load thanks to long polyurethane stops which act as dampers in addition to their role as bump stops. Rear air suspension is also available and is particularly suited to the transport of people with reduced mobility.

Twin Turbo versions are equipped with electro-hydraulic power steering. This solution requires less effort on the steering wheel at low speeds for better manoeuvrability. The power steering rate varies as a function of the vehicle’s speed and how quickly the steering wheel is turned. Steering is consequently easier, more precise and more direct. It only functions when the steering wheel is turned, however, unlike systems based on a power steering pump, and this yields a fuel saving of 0.1litre/100km*.
The rear wheel-drive version of New Master features a strong monocoque chassis which presents numerous benefits. In addition to making the vehicle lighter, it ensures better handling, permits a lower deck height and increases the vehicle’s payload.
A new rear-wheel drive version with single rear wheels
In response to the demand of coachbuilders, a brand new rear-wheel drive L4 version with single rear wheels has been added to the Master catalogue, in addition to the existing twin rear-wheel version. The new version means that 30 extra centimetres are now available between the interior rear wheel wells, which means a europallet can now be loaded widthways. Five such pallets can now be accommodated, and that is sure to interest long distance operators and express courier businesses for which this new version was specially developed.

A rear-wheel drive L4 version for long distance operators
This high-volume version (L4) was specially designed for use on motorways yet without excessive fuel consumption.

The new rear-wheel drive L4 version with single rear wheels boasts a carrying capacity of 14.9m3 and 17m3 for the H2 and H3 versions respectively. Payload is higher, too, up 54kg compared with the twin rear wheel version. Furthermore, the distance between the interior rear wheel wells has been increased by 30cm (again, compared with the twin-wheel version), which means the cargo area can take up to five europallets (1,200mm x 800mm), a prime consideration for express courier businesses.
This version of New Master is only available with Twin Turbo power and fuel consumption is down half-a-litre per 100km compared with the equivalent twin-wheeled version, thanks notably to:
  • A longer final drive ratio which means lower revs for the same travelling speed (450rpm less at 110kph),
  • The vehicle’s lighter weight,
  • Reduced rolling resistance.
Travelling comfort also benefits, since the suspension can be softer (two-leaf springs instead of three).
New Master: an unrivalled range with more than 120 versions (UK)
Building on one of the main strengths of the former-generation range, the New Master range offers an unrivalled range of more than 120  versions, with carrying capacities extending from eight to 22 cubic metres:

  • 70 types (panel van, people carrier, bus, chassis cab and twin-cab chassis, platform cab, crew van, tipper, high volume),
  • Four lengths (three wheelbases, two rear overhangs),
  • Front- and rear-wheel drive (rear-wheel drive with single or twin rear wheels),
  • Four GVWs: 2.8 tonnes, 3.3 tonnes, 3.5 tonnes (with single or twin rear wheels) and 4.5 tonnes (with twin rear wheels).
A made-to-measure cargo area
With a choice of four different lengths and three height options, the New Master range features 12 carrying capacities extending from eight to 22 cubic metres. The L2, L3 and L4 versions can all accommodate a europallet loaded lengthwise through the 1.270m-wide sliding side door. A second sliding door can also be specified for the opposite side. Access to the cargo area via the rear is facilitated by one of the market’s lowest sill heights (front-wheel drive versions: 548mm / rear-wheel drive versions: 674mm). An additional exterior step is a standard fitment for rear-wheel drive versions.

New Master’s cabin: a fully-fledged workspace
The cabin of New Master offers the market’s highest number of stowage solutions. Designed to house the sort of everyday items used by business customers, these solutions are both practical and fully integrated.

  14. A swivelling table incorporated in the rear seat back. With the middle seat back tipped forward, it can serve as a useful desk, complete with a swivelling table designed to hold a laptop computer. The unit can double up as a writing desk and also incorporates two can holders and a tray to hold items of stationery. 
A choice of two audio systems
The standard system across the whole UK New Master range features a 1 DIN DAB (digital) radio with Bluetooth® hands free telephony, a CD player plus USB and iPod connectivity.

A system incorporating the Carminat TomTom® navigation system is available as an option. This system has all the same functionality, with the display screen for the radio and navigation located in the same overhead position as in the current Master. This position is adjustable left or right to give optimum clarity for the driver, and it also frees up dashboard space for additional storage.

A driving position similar to that of a passenger car
Thanks to leg room of 742cm (adjustable fore/aft through 110cm) and a seat cushion height of 410mm, the driving position offers a degree of comfort similar to that of a passenger car which is particularly appreciable on long journeys. The cabin is comfortable and easily accommodates tall drivers.

The optionally-available suspension seat is suited to long distance drivers. Its settings can be adjusted as a function of the driver’s weight (from 40kg to 130kg). It also permits a choice of cushion angles and is equipped with pneumatic lumbar adjustment and an adjustable head rest. It is compatible with the heated seat.
Drivers of New Renault Master benefit from forward visibility among the market’s very best. The design of the windscreen and side windows, plus the high-up seating position ensure commanding vertical and horizontal fields of vision of 39.9 and 193.1 degrees respectively.
