The 2014 Geneva Motor Show will see the première of the New Citroën C1 – a fresh take on a popular model that has sold more than 760,000 examples worldwide since its launch in 2005.

The latest version of Citroën’s city car is available in both three and five-door versions, as well as a new open-top body style called Airscape.
A car with a strong personality, delivering an upbeat response to urban mobility requirements, the New Citroën C1 reflects the bold renewal of Citroën’s C-line.
The New Citroën C1 features:
  • more design; with dynamic lines and a cheerful front-end gaze, characterised by its headlights, the C1 is an immediate head-turner. Bi-tone versions and brightly coloured interiors underline the playful character and joie de vivre. The New C1 is unmistakably a member of the new Citroën family
  • greater comfort, for everyday driving. Agile and nippy, the New C1 marries compact exterior dimensions (just 3.46m), with easy handling and a turning circle of 4.80m. Ride comfort is further improved, thanks to the C1’s exceptional suspension comfort and impeccable road handling
  • more useful technology, including the 7” Touch Driver Interface and Mirror Screentechnology, to copy and run smartphone apps from the touchscreen. The New Citroën C1 can also be fitted with keyless entry and start, as well as a reversing camera and hill-start assist
  • optimised running costs – weighing just 840kg and available with new-generation petrol engines, the New Citroën C1 ranks among the best in class for fuel consumption
STRONG DESIGN & IRRESISTIBLE STYLING
The New Citroën C1 is available in three and five-door versions, as a hatchback or a soft-top vehicle with Airscape.
The dynamic, lively styling is underlined by the visual continuity between the windscreen and side windows, with black windscreen pillars and, depending on trim level, chrome-finish weather strips.
The front end features the key characteristics of the new brand models, with the New Citroën C1’s two-part headlamps and round inserts creating a smiling front end.
Meanwhile, the C1’s vertical daytime running LED lights create a signature that emphasises the car’s cheerful design and strong character. Lighting effects continue at the rear, with a glass tailgate and square lights creating a 3D effect.
An eye-catching and appealing addition to the new breed of Citroën models, the New Citroën C1 combines strong personality with compact, condensed volumes and wider tracks at both the front and rear.
The New Citroën C1 is available in eight exterior colours (Caldéra Black, Gallium Grey, Carlinite Grey, Olive Brown, Lipizan White, Smalt Blue, Scarlet Red and Sunrise Red) and can also be personalised with bi-tone colour options.
Two special launch versions are available with different body and roof colours – Olive Brown roof and Lipizan White body.
The soft-top version, Airscape, is also bi-toned. Contrasting with the body colour, the soft top is available in a choice of three colours: Sunrise Red, Black or Grey. For a touch of urban chic, 14’’ or 15’’ wheel covers and 15’’ diamond-tipped alloy wheels are also available.
The interior of the New Citroën C1 is bright and airy with a colourful ambience. Designed with clean, structured lines, the dashboard features bright colours on the multimedia panel, air vent trim and gear lever base. The door panels also include body-coloured inserts.
DAY-TO-DAY COMFORT AND WELLBEING
AIRSCAPE
The New Citroën C1 delivers day-to-day driving pleasure and the Airscape open-top body style, in both three and five-door versions, is a class exclusive.
The Airscape open-top versions create a sense of escape, with the exceptionally large soft top (800 mm x 760 mm) operated by easy-to-use power controls, giving passengers a greater sensation of everyday freedom.
COMPACT & AGILE
The New Citroën C1 is designed to carry up to four adults in comfort, with generous space in the front and rear. Both three and five-door versions maintain compact dimensions: 3.46m long / 1.62m wide /1.45m tall.
One of the most compact city cars on the market, the versatile New Citroën C1’s neat dimensions make it nimble and easy to manœuvre with an optimum turning radius of 4.80m and electric power steering for easy handling.
STORAGE AND EQUIPMENT FOR EASY LIVING
The New Citroën C1 combines dynamic, vibrant styling with everyday features and an ergonomic design.
There are storage compartments throughout the cabin with cup holders and a glovebox able to hold a one-litre bottle and with a lid for greater peace of mind.
The functional 196-litre boot is easy to access, with the parcel shelf folding away when the tailgate is opened. With the rear seats folded, boot capacity increases to 780 litres.
The New Citroën C1 also has a range of comfort features, such as automatic air conditioning, heated seats and, for the 3-door version, memory settings for the front seats.
COMFORT AND ROAD HANDLING
The New Citroën C1 sets high standards in comfort and road handling.

Compared with the previous-generation model, the New Citroën C1 features a rear axle that is 4 kg lighter, new suspension springs, new shock absorbers and a new large-diameter anti-roll bar. These changes improve both suspension comfort and road handling.
New electric power steering delivers a precise and enjoyable drive with smooth, satisfying and sharp steering both in the city and on the open road.
At the same time, the new tyres with very low rolling resistance and compact dimensions (14 and 15 inches) contribute to strong braking and lower fuel consumption.
The New Citroën C1 brings you an enjoyable, comfortable and relaxed driving experience, on all types of road.
USEFUL TECHNOLOGIES
A TOUCH-SENSITIVE CONNECTED INTERFACE
The New Citroën C1 features intuitive, easy-to-use technologies. It is available with a 7’’ Touch Drive Interface, grouping together all media functions (radio, telephone, video player, on-board computer).
Mirror Screen technology offers advanced connectivity. This function allows the motorist to copy smartphone content onto the 7’’ Touch Drive Interface for easy display and control. To do this, a data exchange app must be installed on the smartphone, before being plugged into the car’s USB port, compatibility permitting.
Once installed, the motorist can take full advantage of the complete range of smartphone apps from the 7’’Touch Drive Interface: navigation, telephone, address book, music, web radio… and any other useful driving-compatible apps.
TECHNOLOGY FOR EASY USE
A range of on-board technology makes driving easier such as a reversing camera, which projects images onto the 7” Touch Drive Interface, simplifying manoeuvres, such as parking in tight spaces.
The New Citroën C1 also features hands-free entry and drive. This function lets the driver enter and start the car without taking out the electronic key – convenient technology typically seen on more premium models.
Hill-start assist is also standard. This feature holds the car steady for two seconds for an easy re-start on slopes with a gradient of over 3%.
OPTIMISED RUNNING COSTS
The New Citroën C1 combines an affordable price tag with optimised running costs. Weighing just 840 kg and fitted with very low rolling resistance tyres and powered by Citroën’s efficient latest-generation engines, it ranks well for efficiency, as well as delivering low servicing costs.
EFFICIENT ENGINES
The New Citroën C1 is available with a choice of two latest-generation petrol engines.
With the e-VTi 68 Airdream engine mated to a 5-speed gearbox and featuring Stop&Start technology with a special aerodynamics pack, the New Citroën C1 is on par with the best in class for fuel consumption.
The VTi 68 engine is available with the clutchless ETG (Efficient Tronic Gearbox). This 5-speed gearbox features a creep function and optimised pedal mapping, adjusting power effectively for smoother start-ups and enhanced driveability.
The New Citroën C1 is also available with the new VTi 82 from the PureTech engine family. Built in France, this 1.2 litre 3-cylinder 82bhp petrol engine uses innovative technologies for fuel consumption of 65mpg and just 99g/km CO2 emissions, combined with driveability and nimble performance – torque of 118 Nm and 0-60mph acceleration in 11 seconds.

Citroën reveals Cactus, a concept car that marries the essential with the aesthetic

  • The concept presents a vision for the future of Citroën’s C-line
  • Stand out features include a 100% digital driver interface, protective ‘Airbumps’ & a designer furniture inspired interior with natural materials used throughout
  • Hybrid Air drivetrain offers 94+ mpg fuel economy

Citroën has revealed Cactus, a new concept car and a vision for future C-line models. Shedding the superfluous, Citroën Cactus is a desirable, user-friendly car that creates a unique harmony between the distinctive and the practical, offering comfort for all occupants with easy-to-use technology.

Pure and functional styling:

  • Strong styling focused on efficiency (light weight & aerodynamic)
  • High-tech look and non-aggressive flowing surfaces
  • ‘Airbumps’, customisable design components covered with a soft skin featuring air capsules that protect the body of the car

Intelligent design:

  • An airy driver’s station housing all the controls in a 100% digital interface
  • Sofa-style front seats for more comfort
  • Natural materials laid out in a stylish, relaxed atmosphere
  • User-friendly technology:

A Hybrid Air drivetrain for economic running costs and reduced environmental footprint
Intuitive connectivity, including access to the Citroën Multicity Connect portal
The origins of Citroën Cactus began with the C-Cactus concept car, which premiered at the 2007 Frankfurt show.

C-Cactus was a radical automotive approach that posed a number of key questions: What do motorists expect from cars in today’s world? And which equipment and features really count? The exercise pushed engineers and designers to make sweeping changes and explore new solutions to motoring challenges. The pragmatic approach avoided the unessential to concentrate on what makes motorists feel good. The end result is the Citroën Cactus – a concept car which previews future models in the C-line.

PURE & FUNCTIONAL STYLING

Citroën Cactus’ styling marries the aesthetic with the practical, the designers having sought to find the right volumes and extend efficiency to the smallest details. The idea was to keep only the essential and this approach allowed the designers to break free from classic automotive cues and explore new solutions to bring customers useful equipment and features.

With a shape that is both original yet familiar, the body styling of Citroën Cactus is easy to identify, with:

  • Pure and smooth surfaces in pearlescent white
  • Flowing contours
  • ‘Floating’ roof and rear quarter panels
  • Contrasting and functional detailing such as Lama grey ‘Airbumps’, textured black wheel arches and gloss black roof rack
  • A bright and airy cabin with a large panoramic sunroof
  • A stand out component of the Cactus is the ‘Airbump’, located on the sides and bumpers of the car.

Combining style with function, the ‘Airbump’ strengthens the appearance and personality of the car with its originality and personalisation possibilities. The supple material features a soft treatment that resists scratches and includes air capsules that absorb impacts.

Combining aesthetics with practical driver needs, the Citroën Cactus places importance on space and efficiency down to the last detail. Only the essentials remain, as the designers worked to break new ground in the form and function.

The Citroën Cactus boasts proportions optimised for efficiency and comfort with:

  • The dimensions of a compact hatchback (4.21 m long & 1.75 m wide)
  • An ideal balance between one-third glazed area and two-thirds wing surface
  • High ground clearance (21 cm) but with an optimised height of just 1.53 m
  • Reduced overhangs, with the wheels directly located at each corner
  • The smooth, flowing styling of Citroën Cactus evokes technology and perceived quality.

At the front, the Cactus hints at the visual styling of future C-line models and is characterised by:

  • Smooth surfaces showcasing the chevrons
  • Flowing lines with a seamless progression from bonnet to wing
  • A high-tech light signature with LED daytime running lights and lamps built in to the ‘Airbumps’
  • The same principle is adopted at the rear with Citroën’s 3D-effect LEDs incorporated into the large ‘Airbump’, which protects the boot area.

The unique, radical design adds to the feel-good factor within the ergonomic and comfortable interior. The absence of side and rear windows and B-pillars invites you to discover a cabin that has been completely reworked in terms of architecture, design, colours and materials.

INTELLIGENT DESIGN

A key objective of the Citroën Cactus concept was to provide more interior space for driver and passengers, ensuring user-friendliness and greater comfort.

The slender, floating dashboard fully frees up the floor below to create a large, easy-access storage space on the passenger side. This design was achieved by the adoption of a 100% digital interface and optimising the driver station, in particular by:

  • Replacing the instrument cluster with a 7-inch screen
  • Swapping control buttons for an 8-inch touchscreen connected to all vehicle functions (air-conditioning, audio, satnav, connected services and driver aids)
  • Installing the passenger airbag on the ceiling
  • Replacing the traditional gearstick with push-button controls on the lower part of the dashboard and steering-wheel paddles
  • Another comforting innovation is the thermally-treated panoramic sunroof which allows light into the cabin, but repels heat and UV rays – comparable to category-4 sunglasses.

Another objective for Cactus was to deliver a stylish and relaxed atmosphere on board. Inspired by contemporary furniture design, the interior layout offers optimum space.

The inviting front seats were designed in the style of a sofa for improved comfort whilst the treatment of the upper storage areas and interior door handles were inspired by luxury luggage styling.

Natural materials such as cotton fabric and ‘camel’ leather (vegetable tanned) are used throughout the cabin, including on the steering wheel trim, seats and door handles.

USER-FRIENDLY TECHNOLOGY

Citroën Cactus technologies are easy to use, economical and environmentally considerate, accessible to all while being resolutely focused on the new needs of motorists.

The Cactus concept features Citroën’s revolutionary new Hybrid Air drivetrain – a full-hybrid, compressed air and hydraulics system – which is combined with a PureTech engine to deliver exceptional fuel economy in excess of 94mpg (under 3l/100km).

This innovative and highly efficient system, which requires no additional batteries, is widely affordable thanks to:

  • Low-cost per mile use (45% reduction in fuel consumption in urban driving)
  • Easy maintenance and servicing through the combination of proven technologies
  • No compromises to interior space

In the centre of the dashboard is the eight-inch digital touchscreen which integrates all driving commands. Easy to use, both the driver and passengers benefit from access to Citroën Multicity Connect, a portal of web-connected applications that use vehicle data – including mileage, speed, range and GPS position – to provide information adapted to motorists’ needs, such as warning them of traffic delays, locating service stations or tourist destinations.

NEW QUESTIONS, NEW ANSWERS

With a fresh approach to design, architecture and technology, Citroën Cactus stands as a new automotive synthesis. The car’s optimistic approach addresses the expectations of people looking to combine practicality with pleasure.

Citroën Cactus is a desirable, user-friendly car, one that is a pleasure to share day by day:

  • ‘Simple to live with’. An ingenious design full of intuitive technologies
  • ‘Simple to love’. A functional and friendly design
  • ‘Simple to share’. A user-friendly interior with a connected driving interface

Citroen makes China it's number one priority.

  • Dual offensive for Citroën in China; the Brand’s number one international priority
  • Two joint ventures in place; DPCA with Dongfeng for the C line & CAPSA with Changan for the DS line
  • Recent launch of DS line & new C line models underpin dual strategic offensive to win more customers
  • New corporate showcases, retail outlets & increased sales strengthen Brand’s position in world’s leading automotive market

With more than 20 years’ presence in the country, Citroën acquired new scope in China in 2012 with the market launch of the DS line. In 2013, three new C line sedans are being introduced - the C4L, the New C5 and C-Elysée.

Thanks to joint ventures with Dongfeng for C-line and Changan for DS models, this dual strategic offensive is enabling Citroën to strengthen its presence in the world’s largest automobile market and to win even more customers.

DS LINE

In April 2011, Citroën chose the Shanghai Motor Show for the world premiere of DS5. Two years later the DS line - DS3, DS4 and DS5 - have now been launched in China through a dedicated DS network with 27 sales outlets currently in cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Canton and Shenzhen. By the end of the year there will be 60 DS Stores in 50 cities. In a few months DS5 will also be produced at the Shenzhen production facility.

The very first DS World - a showcase dedicated to the DS line - has just been inaugurated on Nanjing Road, in one of Shanghai’s most prestigious locations.

Following DS5 and Numéro 9 concept premieres at the Shanghai Motor Show in previous years, the 2013 expo will see the world debut of a new DS concept - Wild Rubis - which will be revealed and displayed on the DS Stand.

DS (CAPSA) Stand at Auto Shanghai 2013: Hall E6 - Press Conference at 9:00am on 20 April.

C-LINE

Dongfeng Citroën, the Brand’s initial joint venture, delivered 224,000 vehicles in 2012, an increase of 2.5%. The restyled C-Quatre achieved record sales of nearly 120,000 units for the year, while the C5, which has also recently been restyled, enjoyed a strong year, with China now its largest market.

Reflecting the popularity of Citroën sedans with Chinese customers, a new model was added to the line-up in early 2013 - the Citroën C4 L - which targets the upper end of the compact car segment. Produced locally at the Wuhan plant, more than 9,000 sales were recorded by the end of March. The C-Elysée, which is scheduled for launch in the second half of this year, will further enlarge the portfolio for Chinese customers.

The dealership network is growing, with 56 new outlets in 2012 for a total of 404 sites. The Citroën Experience Centre - a new corporate showcase on Nanjing Road in Shanghai - was also inaugurated in December 2012.
