Purpose

I will try my best to provide detailed info on various cars and what is like to live with them, I have already produced a few for Jaguar-car-forums, I will do my best to be unbiased, but it will be hard for some cars. I will re-produce press releases and copy from other motoring news.

USA - The latest generation of smart fortwo cabriolet is now available, making this the best version of teh car thats ever been produced.

Summer in the City
Three cars in one: at the touch of a button the new smart cabrio is transformed from a closed two-seater into a car with a large sliding canvas sunroof, or a full-fledged cabriolet with the soft top completely open.
This enables the fresh air driving experience to be adapted to the weather or the driver's mood. This flexibility offered by the "tritop" folding soft top and the removable roof bars is a special feature – and not just in this segment. At the same time, the new smart cabrio is the only true cabriolet in its vehicle class.
"Our new smart cabrio really exudes the 'joy of life' in the city – which is what our brand stands for," says Dr. Annette Winkler, Head of smart. "I am sure that we will delight our present 220,000 cabrio customers and win lots of new fans with this successful lifestyle icon."
The new smart cabrio (length/width/height: 8.8/5.4/5.1 ft) is clearly recognizable as a member of the new smart generation. The third model also embodies the smart design philosophy of FUN.ctional design, defined by two poles - the heart and mind. The design idiom is clear, purist and very progressive. T
This includes the typical silhouette with ultra-short overhangs, the clear lines, shapes and surfaces and, of course, the tridion safety cell. With the grille in a fading honeycomb design and the rhombic headlamps, the face is unmistakably smart.
The B-pillar is narrower than on the closed variant and the styling of the tridion safety cell is more progressive, giving the smart fortwo cabrio an even sportier and more forward-focused look.
Prospective customers can choose between two different colors for the "tritop" fabric soft top: red or black. The headlining is always grey. The removable roof bars that can be stowed in a compartment in the tailgate come in the tridion color.
Soft top: opens within twelve seconds
When the sun peeps out from behind the clouds, smart fortwo cabrio drivers can react quickly: the fabric soft top can be opened fully automatically in 12 seconds – even when driving at top speed. With the 3-button key the soft top can also be opened from outside the car by remote control.
Removing the side roof bars enables a full-blown cabrio experience. The roof bars can be stowed on the inside of the tailgate. This stowage compartment in the tailgate also offers additional stowage space for small items.
With an area of 19.4 sq-ft the "tritop" fabric soft top is approximately four percent larger than its predecessor. The outer covering is made of a particularly lightfast polyacrylic fabric and the inside features a polyester/cotton mix. There is a rubber layer in the middle. The soft top has a total thickness of 0.8 inches. The rear windscreen is heated and is made of glass.
Safety: occupant protection space validated in roof-drop test
The new smart fortwo cabrio is the most rigid smart cabrio ever. The torsional strength has been improved by around 15 percent compared with the predecessor. The material mix comprises a high proportion of ultra-high strength hot-formed steels and maximum-strength multiphase steels.
In addition, the cabrio has been specifically reinforced in decisive places in comparison to the coupe. The modifications include a large steel cross under the vehicle, two torsional bulkheads under the vehicle at the front and rear and an inner tube in the A-pillars made of high strength hot-formed steel.
As well as meeting the requirements of mandatory crash tests, the new smart fortwo cabrio – with a safety concept that includes the tridion safety cell typical of the brand for efficient energy absorption – also passes additional Mercedes- Benz crash tests that often have much stricter requirements. This includes the "roof-drop" test. Here the body falls at a slight angle from a height of 50 centimeters onto the roof structure and the vehicle hits one of the two A- pillars.
Several advanced assistance systems are available on the smart fortwo, including the latest-generation ESP® with Crosswind Assist and Hill Start Assist (standard) and forward collision warning (optional).
Turbocharged engine, two transmissions, four lines
The new cabrio will be available with the same state-of-the-art three-cylinder engine as the coupe, rated at 89 hp. This engine can be combined with the five- speed manual transmission or the fully automatic twinamic dual clutch transmission. Needless to say, the smart fortwo cabrio has the agility typical of the brand – with the 22.8 ft (from curb to curb) and 24 ft (from wall to wall) turning circle, turning maneuvers are extremely simple.
In addition to the three lines passion (standard), prime and proxy, customers can choose from a large range of safety and comfort features. The high-quality  and charming interior of the smart fortwo cabrio corresponds to that of the    closed variant with standard features including a smart radio with Bluetooth® technology, automatic climate control, power windows, power steering, cruise control, a multifunction steering wheel, alarm system, and LED Daytime Running Lamps integrated into the headlamps. A wind deflector is available as an option. The interior styling is sure to delight and is characterized by a "dynamic loop" as a signature feature throughout the interior  – for example, emotional sweeping  lines are  featured  on  the  dashboard and doors.
Endurance testing: extensive testing in laboratories and on the road
The testing program for open-top vehicles from Mercedes-Benz Cars is extensive – and identical for all models: the new smart fortwo cabrio was therefore subjected to the same rigorous tests as, for example, the S-Class Cabriolet from Mercedes-Benz. In one particular endurance test, the opening and closing of the soft top was simulated over the whole vehicle life cycle. As well as this component test, which comprises 20,000 cycles, the soft top and the soft top mechanism must also prove themselves in the climatic chamber because perfect functioning must also be ensured at temperatures between 5 and +176 degrees Fahrenheit. In addition, an "abuse test" is performed at -40 degrees Fahrenheit with a completely iced roof: in this case overload protection protects the soft top's drive motor.
The car wash test ensures that smart cabrio passengers always stay dry. At 500 cycles, the requirements correspond to those for the coupe. In addition to this testing in the development phase, every single smart cabrio is also tested for leak-proofness: at the end of the production at the Hambach plant every vehicle is sprinkled with a standardized amount of water for seven minutes.
The developers tested the maintenance of a draft-free interior in  the
Mercedes-Benz wind tunnel with the help of the dummy "Tanja." She is fitted with a total of 16 speed sensors on her neck and arms which allow the flow speeds of the wind in the interior to be measured.

In addition, there is extensive overall vehicle testing on testing grounds and roads of different quality around the world.
smart cabrio: a car with cult character for 15 years
At the International Motor Show in Frankfurt in 1999, smart surprised the world public with a number of new model studies. A cabrio version was presented that was based on the smart city-coupe. This model opened a whole new dimension to the "closed" micro car community by opening up the roof. The smart cabrio offers pure joy of life. From the spring of 2000 the world's smallest production cabriolet rolled off the production line and onto European roads. Since the first model change in 2006 the soft top has been fully automatic.

Kadjar is being offered in an 18-version line-up based on four trim lines familiar to owners of other Renault vehicles – Expression+, Dynamique Nav, Dynamique S Nav and Signature Nav.

All provide a comprehensive standard specification, rising to the truly luxurious at the top-of-the-range. Renault’s fabled active and passive safety has been democratically applied across the range, while connectivity via the easy-to-use R-Link 2 system is fitted to all models above Expression+.
Standard safety features include ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution, electronic stability control with traction and understeer control, cruise control, speed limiter, Hill Start Assist, six airbags, seat belts with load limiters and pretensioners at the front, side impact protection bars and ISOFIX child-seat mounting points on the two outer rear seats.
All versions have gravel, dust and rain protection kits, while for comfort and convenience there is an accessory power point, a 12-volt front socket, a trip computer, two-way adjustable steering column and an exterior temperature indicator.
Standard features and personalisation packages
Core features on Expression+ include an automatic electronic parking brake, front foglights, LED daytime running lamps, tinted windows, the 7-inch TFT instrument panel with digital speedometer, all-round electric windows, driver’s seat height adjustment, air conditioning, Bluetooth, a USB socket and a 4 x 20W DAB radio with fingertip controls and an AUX input.
Dynamique Nav adds to this with 17-inch alloy wheels, a cornering function on the front foglights, chrome exterior detailing, extra-tinted rear and tailgate windows, hands-free keycard, automatic door locking, dual-zone climate control, automatic lights and wipers, the Visio system (lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition and automatic headlight beam adjustment), leather-rimmed steering wheel, driver’s seat lumbar adjustment, a 4 x 35W Arkamys 3D digital audio system and the R-Link 2 multimedia system including Navigation and European mapping.
This is further enhanced on Dynamique S Nav with 19-inch diamond-cut alloys, front and rear parking sensors, leather and cloth upholstery, passenger seat height adjustment, one-touch easy-folding rear bench, electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors and the multi-position boot floor.
Finally, there is Signature Nav featuring exclusive 19-inch diamond-cut alloys, full LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, painted front and rear skid plates, side and boot kick plates, ‘Signature’ cloth and leather upholstery with a Nappa leather steering wheel, a height-adjustable passenger seat and the BOSE Energy Efficient eight-speaker sound system including sub-woofer.
Kadjar allows a significant level of personalisation through individual options and cost-saving packages. There are seven themed high-value equipment packages, depending on model.
The Climate Pack for Expression+ delivers automatic dual-zone climate control and automatic headlights and wipers. The Parking Pack on Dynamique Nav adds front and rear parking sensors and electrically adjustable heated and folding door mirrors.
For Signature Nav, the Parking Pack Premium includes Park Assist (Handsfree parking and rear parking camera); the Safety Pack Premium adds blind spot warning and automatic emergency braking; while the Techno Pack Premium includes all these options.
The one-touch easy rear-seat folding system is offered in the Dynamique Nav’s Convenience Pack, while leather seats with height adjustment and seat heating make up the Leather Pack for Signature Nav.
Other accessories include side running boards, wheel arch extensions, a retractable tow bar which can be released from within the boot and illuminated lower body side mouldings.
New vehicle architecture
Kadjar is based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s versatile new Common Module Family (CMF) architecture, which allows a wide range of cars of different sizes to be created using a variety of modules consisting of out-of-view parts.  The platform is based around five available modules: Cockpit, Engine Bay, Front underbody, Rear underbody and Electronic architecture.
The three engines on offer are the 1.2-litre turbocharged TCe 130 hp four-cylinder direct-injection petrol unit, the 1.5-litre ENERGY dCi 110 hp four-cylinder diesel and the 1.6-litre ENERGY dCi four-cylinder 130 hp diesel.
An Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) automatic gearbox is available with the dCi 110 engine. Intelligent four-wheel drive with three operating modes – Auto, LOCK and 2WD –is offered with the dCi 130 in the three upper trim levels.
The three engines, two gearboxes and two drive systems offer fuel economy of up to 74.3mpg, with CO2emissions as low as 99g/km. Contributors to this are the sleek shape and low weight of the car (from 1,306kg); the Renault engine Stop&Start system, which is standard on all manual models; the double-clutch EDC transmission in place of a more fuel-sapping torque converter system; an ECO driving mode which optimises the engine’s performance when cruising; the Renault Driving eco2 feature to help owners adopt a more economical driving style; and standard brake energy recovery.
Three cars in one
Renault showed how it could mould its instinctively French design flair to the world of crossovers with global appeal with Captur. Kadjar extends this by being effectively three cars in one – a subtle blend of SUV, estate and saloon – designed to slot into a cityscape or the countryside with equal ease.
All versions provide the peace of mind of Renault’s 4+ warranty and assistance package. The car is protected against defects recognised by Renault for four years or 100,000 miles (first two years have no mileage limit). In the event of a breakdown, Renault provides emergency roadside repairs or towing to the nearest dealer 24/7 every day of the year, plus three years’ European cover. There is also a three-year paint warranty and 12 years’ cover against corrosion. Servicing is required once a year or every 18,000 miles.
UK order books open in July, with first deliveries expected in late September. European versions of Kadjar are built at the Palencia plant in Spain. In 2016, Kadjar will also become the first Renault to be made in China as a result of a joint venture with Dongfeng.
