Purpose

I will try my best to provide detailed info on various cars and what is like to live with them, I have already produced a few for Jaguar-car-forums, I will do my best to be unbiased, but it will be hard for some cars. I will re-produce press releases and copy from other motoring news.

Subaru, The launch of a new car and the event that goes with it.

I was sitting on my computer when i had the unmistakable ding to say i received an email, and was surprised to see an invite to the launch of a new car, namely the new Subaru XV, the all wheel drive estate style SUV, and being that it is Subaru, we knew that the launch would not be a normal one.

And it was not, we had an early start to arrive at the airport, where they event was being held, and we found ourselves at an aeroplane, where the event was to based out of, up the steps and into the plane, we found a new car, not something we were expecting to find, but a nice surprise, along with plenty of info and pictures.

Breakfast was how it should be, bacon rolls, with loads of bacon, so no complaints there and another tick, we were then invited to take our seats where we were introduced to some of the Subaru hierarchy, and an introduction to the brand, the future and the reason we were there for.

And that reason was the new XV, a stunning car, now that might sound like a huge comment to make, and it is not made lightly, the XV is a massive leap forward, from safety, to design, to technology and comfort.

SAFETY

The car has been heavily updated, to not only make it far more safe, probably one of the safest cars in the segment, with the ABS, it benefits from Subaru's Global Manufacturing Platform (GMP), this is a higher rigidity, with vastly more strength, along with a lower weight, which in turn gives the car a better rolling resistance for an even better driving experience.

The car also benefits from a Rear Vehicle Detection system, which includes Blind spot monitoring, Lane change assist and rear cross traffic alert, which can alert the driver to a possible collision, the XV also benefits from the full 5* Euro NCAP rating for safety, it has also been declares the Euro NCAP Best In Class, safest small family car 2017 having achieved the best scores in it's segment for Adult and Child occupancy and pedestrian protection, and a very good for the Autonomous Emergency Braking and Lane Support Systems.

TECHNOLOGY

The entire Subaru range is well kitted out, but the XV does benefit from Apple CarPlay and Android Auto 2, allowing easy connectivity for your smartphone, and the use of hands free, which keeps the driver more in control, thus keeping everyone safe whilst driving, the car also benefits from a reversing camera to aid in parking, and the view from that camera is wider than on some other so called premium products, the LED steering responsive headlights follow the car, whether on a straight or around a bend, which maximises visibility.

The keyless entry and push button start system amkes getting in and going easy, rather than press a blip, if you have the key in your pocket, grab the door handles and the the car doors will unlock, the same for the push button, as long as the key is on you, the car will start.

ENGINE

The Subaru range is famous for it's Boxer range of engines, they are powerful, yet economical, the powerplant sits lower down in the car to make it more stable, and combined with the Symmetrical All Wheel Drive is a set up that is hard to beat.
The XV comes in two engine specs the 1.6L and the 2.0L, the 2.0L can manage a 120mph top speed with a 10.4 seconds 0-62mph, and the 1.6L comes with a great fuel consumption of :-
  • Urban             35.8mpg
  • Extra Urban    50.4mpg
  • Combined       44.1mpg
COMFORT

The XV is one of the most comfortable cars i have had the pleasure of driving, the setas are very supportive, and allows you to place both the seat and steering wheel into numerous positions, so no matter how big or small you are, you will find a seating position to suit. Every thing is within easy reach, and so simple to use, from the steering wheel controls to the navigation and secondary switchgear.

There is loads of space in the car, with more room than needed up front for the driver and passenger, access to the rear seats is very easy, and seating is equally as comfortable, and the boot space is really big for a car in this class, so overall, space is great, and with a lot of glass, the available viewability is also great.

The Air con and heating are simple to use, and gives the driver and passenger swift heat in the cold, and cold air in the heat, it does all this with ease, but thats not all, the car comes very well equipped and all models include.
  • Subaru Boxer engine (1.6 or 2.0 litre petrol)
  • Permanent Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive
  • Lineartronic Continuous Variable Transmission
  • EyeSight Driver Assist technology
  • X-Mode with Hill Descent Control
  • Subaru Rear Vehicle Detection – Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • High Beam Assist
  • LED Steering Responsive Headlights
  • Keyless Entry & Push Button Start System
  • 8” multi-function colour touchscreen with Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™
  • Reversing camera
  • Dual-zone Automatic Air-conditioning System
  • Power-folding heated door mirrors
  • Aluminium alloy wheels (17” or 18”)

And lastly for the car is the pièce de résistance and thats the Eyesight system, one of the most intuitive and capable systems that you will find, it includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking, Pre-Collision Throttle Management, Lane Sway and Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist and Lead Vehicle Start Alert.

The system that i think is brilliant is the autonomous slowing down to a halt and speed gaining as the vehicle in front slows and speeds up, it is available on other cars, but this one is far superior, and the first time you try it, it is really scary, just allowing the car to slow down and pick up speed as it see's fit to do, dependant on the traffic.

CONCLUSION

The car and brand is great, comparing the new XV to the old version on our test day, showed how much the new one has moved ahead, from its look and the way it drove, it is a stunning car, and one that you must consider, very highly when looking for a car in the class, and with pricing starting at £25,000, you really do not need to spec up the car as it probably already has what you need, but please do consider it, you will not be disappointed.

After such a long, drawn out process, the Urus from Lamborghini nears its launch date

The design of a Lamborghini is always unmistakable. The Urus is undoubtedly a Lamborghini, taking cues from the LM002 as well as the super sports cars that are fundamental to Lamborghini heritage: the Urus has outstanding proportions, adopting the two thirds body, one-third window ratio of Lamborghini super sports cars.

The front hood starts powerfully low, rising to a proud dome housing the V8 twin-turbo engine. The equally commanding, muscular rear, exudes a new level of power and potential. A dynamic character line along the side of the Urus links a perfect architecture, including angular windows and diagonal lines in both front bonnet and rear glass that echo those of the Countach. Hexagonal wheel arches are cues taken from the first Lamborghini SUV, the LM002, A small triangular air outlet reminiscent of the LM002 features on the side of the Urus, adorned with an Italian flag: the Lamborghini Urus Super SUV is born and made in Italy.
The interior design of the Urus is equally engaging. The driver ‘feels like a pilot’, and the Urus has a low seat position integrated within the interior. An encompassing dashboard and controls ergonomically surround the cockpit, with the Lamborghini hexagonal design theme as evident inside as it is on the exterior.

The All-New DS 7 Crossback is going on a UK Tour before it is available for uk Sales.

  • For the DS brand, 2017 is a year of far-reaching transformation - the first-half of which saw product developments with the reveal of the first of the brand’s next-generation models – the DS 7 CROSSBACK - followed by themed Limited Edition DS 3 and DS 4 CROSSBACK
  • The DS brand is progressing with its commitment to develop high-end, exclusive cars that are emblems of innovation combining the excellence of French know-how.
  • The strategy is supplemented by the implementation of a dedicated DS network and the digitisation of showrooms. Some 40 DS Stores and DS Salons are currently under construction and that number rises to around 70 going forward.
  • Other key developments include the roll-out of the DS customer experience programme - Only You - which involves far-reaching high-end customer experiences and services.
Arnaud Leclerc, DS brand development director UK, commented: "In the first-half of 2017, DS Automobiles continued with its construction, reinforced its basis as a premium brand and unveiled the first of its next generation products with DS 7 CROSSBACK, the SUV by DS, and supplemented by a range of themed limited edition models with the DS 3 Ines de la Fressange and DS 4 CROSSBACK Moondust.
“The brand’s network of DS Stores and DS Salons has also made progress with the planning, development and construction of a network of advanced showroom and service centres with multi-channel distribution, a recruitment programme and training plans for DS Expert Advisors. Also DS is soon to start its DS customer experience programme - Only You - aimed at forging a unique and personalised relationship with each one of our customers.
“From this far-reaching transformation is born the development of an exclusive, high-end French brand, out to win over new customers with a customer experience and the opportunity to drive desirable cars that combine advanced technological features within a charismatic design."
DS BRAND CULTIVATES THE EXCLUSIVENESS AND RARITY OF ITS MODELS
In the premium car market, the DS 3 / DS 3 CABRIO remains the timeless, stylish and chic Parisian vehicle, supplemented by the equally distinctive DS 4 hatchback, DS 4 CROSSBACK and DS 5 executive hatchback.
To cultivate the exclusiveness and rarity of these models in their current collection and meet the needs of customers looking to express themselves personally, DS has launched themed limited edition models:
  • DS 3 Ines de la Fressange Limited Edition is an exclusive and distinctive hatchback, strong on refinement and character. It combines the referencing of an automotive icon applauded for its inimitable styling and personalisation offer with a key figure in stylish Parisian fashion – Ines was the original face of Chanel.
  • DS 4 CROSSBACK Moondust Limited Edition was also launched in March, has an original personality discernible from the very first glance. It stands out from the crowd with its matt Platinum Grey paint finish. Supplemented with a high-end interior, featuring black grained leather.
  • DS 3 Connected Chic is a new trim level and has the alliance of elegance and connectivity. Incorporating the most popular styling and technology features, like 17 inch alloy wheels, LED front fog lights, Black Contrast Pack (bi-tone paint including black roof / door mirror paint finish), Basalt Black cloth upholstery, satellite navigation, Mirror Screen with Mirror Link® and Apple CarPlayTM, alarm and automatic air conditioning.
  • This quest for exclusiveness is also expressed in the enthusiasm for sportier-looking models and this is available range-wide with the DS Performance Line. This refined and dynamic trim level is available on DS 3, DS 3 CABRIO, DS 4 and DS5, and accounts for nearly 10% of the range sales of these models.
NOW ON TOUR IN THE UK AHEAD OF ITS ARRIVAL IN 2018, DS 7 CROSSBACK IS ON SHOW
DS 7 CROSSBACK was revealed on 28 February and made its world debut on 7 March at the Geneva International Motor Show. In May, a right-hand-drive one-off pre-production version embarked on a UK tour, displayed at DS sponsored events, at DS Stores and DS Salons and at DS network arranged locations, to bring about a wider awareness and one-to-one engagement with our first of the next generation car range, ahead of its arrival in DS showrooms in 2018.
The new SUV from DS is an embodiment of innovative savoir-faire (know-how) from Paris and the interest created by the involvement of the forthcoming DS 7 CROSSBACK was greatly enhanced by the inauguration of the new French president, Emmanuel Macron on 14 May. This is because the French Republic chose DS 7 CROSSBACK for the investiture ceremony. The event stands as a strong official debut for the new model, giving the world the chance to see the French president in an ultra-exclusive DS 7 CROSSBACK bespoke Presidential version. The Presidential model boasts an open roof, a black Art Leather interior and unique personalisation touches created by Atelier Maury, a world-renowned gilder. These special features add to the car's high-tech equipment and demonstrate the excellence of innovative know how from Paris.
FUTURE PLANNED DS 7 CROSSBACK UK TOUR DATES (subject to change):
  • DS Automobiles Sponsored ‘Dinner-in-the-Sky’ London, Chelsea - 19th to 30th July

These will include DS Stores and DS Salons.
DS Stores are equipped with DS Virtual Vision to bring customers an industry-leading original experience that takes them on a high-quality immersive 3D journey through the whole DS vehicle collection. Equipped with a virtual-reality headset, visitors can configure their choice of models across DS the range – DS 3, DS 3CABRIO, DS 4 hatchback, DS 4 CROSSBACK, DS 5 executive hatchback, as well as the forthcoming DS 7 CROSSBACK and Limited Edition La Première model (available to order until 31st December 2017) - presented in life-size scale, by using all the personalisation possibilities, both with the interior and exterior. Visitors get to discover the models in a dynamic, interactive and captivating manner, and will no doubt enjoy finding themselves at Place de la Concorde in Paris alongside the DS of their choice.
There are three types of retail outlets for DS;
  • DS Store (Over 250m²): this DS retail outlet offers the entire DS brand experience. It is a luxury boutique dedicated to the automotive industry with a unique atmosphere (colour scheme, furniture specially designed for DS, lighting effects, rooms scented with a DS essence fragrance, mood music, etc.). Its showroom has a capacity for exhibiting at least six vehicles. It is made up of a customer car park, a waiting room, a boutique selling accessories and merchandise, and a special after-sales reception.
  • DS Salon (Over 125m²): this is a space dedicated to the DS brand. It has a distinct design identity inside (flooring, walls, ceiling, logo, sales desk, customer reception, and Lifestyle boutique) and outside (totem). At least three DS models are exhibited in a DS Salon.
  • DS Urban Store: this new DS boutique concept with a focus on digital technology offers a retail outlet, a brand experience, and immersion in the DS world. Designed to blend well into an upmarket urban district with a high rate of passing trade, the store can be located at street level or nestled within a shopping centre.
The DS brand is also taking things further by moving into e-commerce with online reservations for DS 7 CROSSBACK La Première - a unique and exclusive Limited Edition launch model available to order in 2017. For those looking to be the first to get behind the wheel of DS 7 CROSSBACK, an internet connection and a few clicks on a dedicated online site: https://reservationlapremierefinance.ds7crossback.co.uk/ which allows clients to configure the precise chosen specification and even make payment adjustments to personalise their preferred repayment terms.
DS IS SOON TO BEGIN RECRUITING AND TRAINING DS EXPERT ADVISORS AND IMPLEMENTING THE ‘ONLY YOU’ UNIQUE AND PERSONALISED CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE PROGRAMME
Proposing exceptional products and rolling out multi-channel distribution by expanding the DS network and digitising showrooms is today being accompanied by a plan to recruit and train DS Expert Advisors. This development is also accompanied by new services as part of the ‘Only You – the DS Experience’ programme where DS customers can benefit from a distinctive, refined and avant-garde customer experience.
A pillar of the Brand's strategy, the Only You programme of exclusive services and privileges addresses all DS customers, whether having bought a DS model or a DS service for their mobility. Several initiatives are soon to be implemented in the UK in the forthcoming months that include DS Assistance, Club DS Privilege, DS at your Service, MyDS, and others, like DS Rent, which provides motorists with the chance to enjoy an adventure in a DS for several hours or days and thereby get to know and appreciate the models in the DS collection.
Proposing exceptional products, developing multi-channel distribution and implementing a unique and personalised customer experience are the three strategic pillars underpinning the construction and transformation of the DS brand. This far-reaching transformation will continue to accelerate development in the second-half of 2017, in readiness for the exciting events scheduled for 2018.

Volkswagen adds a new petrol range of engines from 1.4 litre to 2.0 litre across many models.

  • Four new petrol engine options in Passat and Tiguan families
  • Previously diesel- or hybrid-engined Passat gains new units
  • Tiguan SUV petrol engine line-up is significantly expanded
Four efficient petrol engines are now available to order for the first time from Volkswagen Retailers in the popular Passat Saloon and Estate, and Tiguan SUV, model ranges.
The comprehensive line-up of new petrol engines now being offered in Passat and Tiguan further broaden the cars’ appeal while also allowing the growing numbers of buyers keen to enjoy the benefits of petrol power to consider two of Volkswagen’s most popular models.
The stylish Passat Saloon and Estate family enters this growing market sector with four petrol engines options, ranging from a frugal 1.4-litre TSI 125 PS to a potent 2.0-litre TSI 220 PS, and also including the impressive 1.4-litre TSI 150 PS with Active Cylinder Technology.
What’s more, for the first time the sporty R-Line trim is being made available with an entry-level engine in Passat. This broadens choice as well as making stylish R-Line ownership even more accessible – with the new 1.4-litre TSI 125 PS Passat R-Line a particularly attractive proposition for style- and budget-conscious buyers.

Hard-headed fleet and business users could be equally enamoured of the new petrol-powered Passats thanks to a strong set of benefit in kind (BIK) statistics.
When it comes to company car tax, the Passat 1.4 TSI ACT 150 PS SE Business six-speed manual, with an on-the-road price of £23,775 RRP, produces a BIK rating of 22% meaning a 40% tax payer would incur a tax charge of £6,880 over a typical three years behind the wheel.
The equivalent Passat 2.0 TDI 150 PS SE Business six-speed manual driver would be required to pay HMRC £7,746 over the same 36-month spell thanks to the car’s £25,675 RRP and 23% BIK rate.
The new petrol-powered Passat models – which exactly mirror the equipment specifications of their diesel siblings on a like-for-like trim basis – will sit alongside the existing diesel engines in the extensive Passat family, and will be introduced at an RRP roughly £1,900 below their diesel equivalents, making them a compelling alternative for many buyers.
Meanwhile, seven new petrol derivatives have also been added to the burgeoning Volkswagen Tiguan range. The 1.4-litre 125 PS TSI 2WD has been introduced on the SE and SE Nav trim lines, offering a lower entry price from just £25,000 RRP OTR into these desirable models.
The accomplished 1.4-litre 150 PS 2WD DSG is now available on the SEL and R-Line which, priced from £29,900 RRP OTR for the SEL trim, also creates a lower entry point into these luxurious and sporty models.
Welcoming the arrival of these new petrol engine options in two of Volkswagen’s most sought-after models Wes Withey, Volkswagen UK Product Marketing Manager, said: “Adding petrol engine options to our popular Passat family, in particular, is a great step forward.
“Powerful, refined and frugal – these new petrol units make the Passat more accessible in terms of price, as well as further broadening the cars’ already extensive appeal.”
