The world’s-first automotive integration of Tile Bluetooth tracking device with Land Rover InControl™ apps

  • The world’s-first automotive integration of Tile Bluetooth tracking device with Land Rover InControl™ apps
  • Smart app ensures customers never leave important day-to-day items behind
  • Tile integration links to new InControl Touch Pro infotainment system and can even direct owners to missing or lost items
  • Updated Discovery Sport on sale now in the UK priced from £31,095
The 2017 Land Rover Discovery Sport is the car that never forgets thanks to the world-first integration of Tile’s advanced tracking app. The premium compact SUV is the first vehicle to incorporate the pioneering technology in addition to enhanced new design, convenience and safety features.
The rush to work or the school run can often result in important items being left behind, but the new Discovery Sport is designed to make forgotten wallets and missing bags a thing of the past. The app uses Tile tags, tiny Bluetooth trackers that can be attached to important items and used to track their whereabouts using smartphone technology.

With the average person spending 15 minutes a day searching for lost items*, the unique in-vehicle app promises to put an end to this wasted time. Once the app is initiated using the central touchscreen, customers are alerted if specified items are not inside the vehicle and are even able to get on-screen directions to their last known location.
Peter Virk, Jaguar Land Rover’s Director of Connected Technologies & Apps, said,  “Losing your wallet or leaving your child’s sports kit behind isn’t just an inconvenience. The realisation you’ve mislaid something important can be a cause of distraction. Our unique partnership with Tile means customers can check the status of tagged items using Discovery Sport’s touchscreen, so forgotten items will be a thing of the past.”
Jaguar Land Rover is the first automotive company to integrate Tile with its in-car entertainment system. The partnership allows customers to establish a list of ‘Essentials’ using the vehicle touchscreen, which are always checked when the app is initiated. If items are lost inside the vehicle, customers are able to sound a 90-decibel alarm on the Tile tag, to help locate them.
Mike Farley, CEO of Tile, said, “We’re really excited to be partnering with Jaguar Land Rover. We believe this integration will provide many benefits such as improved assurance and peace of mind about the whereabouts of essential items, helping drivers save time before they embark on journeys. Having increased the number of Tiles in circulation from two million to over five million in the last six months alone, we are confident of the extensive advantages this will bring to Jaguar Land Rover customers globally.”
The Tile smartphone app is compatible with both Android and Apple platforms and the number of items that can be tracked is limitless.
Premium Design Enhancements
New for the 2017 Discovery Sport is a Graphite Pack which comprises a Dark Atlas colour finish to the grille, bonnet script and side vents, a Corris Grey contrast roof and Narvik Black mirror caps. The Graphite Pack is available as an option on SE and SE Tech derivatives and includes a new 19-inch wheel option.
Gerry McGovern, Chief Design Officer, said: “Our customers want their vehicles to stand out and expect a wide range of personalisation options. With its polished finishes the additional Graphite Pack gives our compact SUV a uniquely distinctive appearance”.
New 2017 Discovery Sport is also available in four new body colours: Silicon Silver, Farallon Black, Carpathian Grey and Aruba metallic finishes. The premium compact SUV is manufactured at Jaguar Land Rover’s award-winning Halewood plant in the UK and is on sale now with prices starting from £31,095.
Cutting-Edge Convenience Technology
Jaguar Land Rover’s updated InControl Touch Pro infotainment system is at the heart of the technological additions. The new set-up provides a larger 10.2-inch touchscreen and intuitive menus, replicating the look and feel of smartphone apps and allowing users to swipe and pinch, just as they would on a tablet.
The screen does not require any ‘hard’ buttons and provides a super-wide 21:9 format with higher resolution than the standard 8-inch touchscreen. In addition, the increased pixel-count provides superior clarity when using the dual-screen option, ensuring neither driver nor passenger sacrifices screen quality.
InControl Touch Pro’s state-of-the art capability is delivered through a combination of a super-fast access 60GB Solid State Drive (SSD), which is around 100 per cent faster than a typical hard disc drive (HDD) and is the first automotive use of Intel’s high-performance Quad-Core computing and graphics processor.
Advanced Safety Systems
Complementing the enhanced design, convenience and technology features fitted to the 2017 Discovery Sport is a trio of new safety systems.
Driver Condition Monitor alerts the driver via visual and audible warnings if it detects signs of drowsiness. The vehicle algorithm, which continuously monitors driver inputs looking for signs of fatigue, helps to ensure safe driving.
Intelligent Speed Limiter helps drivers to keep to the speed limit. The system takes advantage of the Traffic Sign Recognition feature to detect changes to the prevailing limit. When a change occurs, the driver is prompted to accept the new maximum speed limit. Once accepted the vehicle will automatically begin to slow the vehicle to the required speed.
Lane Keep Assist uses the forward-facing camera on the vehicle to detect lane markings. If the driver begins to veer out of their lane without indicating, the vehicle will gently counter-steer to ensure it does not leave its lane unintentionally.
The updated Discovery Sport is available to order now in the UK from £31,095 on the road.

Jaguar Land Rover shows drivers the way with HERE auto.

Last week’s New York Auto Show saw the launch of the all-new Jaguar XF, the most connected Jaguar yet and the first to offer Jaguar’s innovative InControl Touch Pro Infotainment System.

With decades of experience in developing location services for the automotive and consumer industries, HERE was a natural choice for Jaguar Land Rover to collaborate with for InControl Touch Pro.

As a leader in navigation, mapping and location experiences, HERE integrated intelligent location technologies for the system, as well as for Jaguar’s smartphone companion apps, giving drivers the smartest guidance experiences available.

Built on the HERE Auto platform, the InControl Touch Pro Infotainment System reimagines what’s possible with connected car technology, with the most comprehensive set of driver-focused location services across multiple screens.

With InControl Touch Pro, Jaguar XF drivers have a car that learns their commuting patterns and preferences over time, combining that knowledge with live information from the vehicle and its environment to deliver real-time and relevant information at the right moment.

“Today’s drivers want more than standard navigation or a way-finding app,” said Floris van de Klashorst, vice president of Connected Driving at HERE.

"Together with Jaguar Land Rover, we have developed a guidance system that we believe stands out in the industry. It combines the intuitiveness of a smartphone with the benefits of being deeply integrated into the car, with the result being an experience that we believe drivers will enjoy day in, day out.”

A new, more personal approach evolves from navigation to guidance

HERE Auto takes a new approach to guidance, going beyond navigation to give a personalised experience that intuitively guides drivers through their entire journey, both inside and outside the car. A continuous connection to the HERE location cloud enables InControl Touch Pro to anticipate drivers’ needs, solving many of the challenges – from the complex to the mundane – that they face on every drive.

From planning to parking in one easy step

In the new Jaguar XF, the system actively syncs information from the driver’s smartphone companion app or computer to the car, so they only have to enter a route once for the whole journey.

Drivers can plan a trip at home and the route automatically shows up when they turn on the system in the car. If they make a spontaneous stop along the way, the system intuitively knows to keep routing to the final destination when they get back in the car.

The connection to HERE’s location cloud means that as drivers near the end of their journey, the screen switches to approach mode, showing a street level view of their destination and one-touch options to find an available parking space.

Images for the street level view and for the maps used by InControl Touch Pro are gathered and constantly updated by HERE’s worldwide fleet of data collection vehicles. And when drivers park and leave the car, the journey continues on the smartphone companion app to get them to their final destination.

A car that learns your drives

In addition to the customisable home screens which InControl Touch Pro offers on its 10.2” touch screen, HERE Auto technology allows the Jaguar XF to learn driving routines over time, whether daily commutes, school drop-offs or regular pit stops. With personalized profiles, drivers can also customize one-touch recommendations for preferred fuel brands or other favourite destinations.

Traffic? We may have found the answer

A connection to live traffic information through the HERE location cloud means that InControl Touch Pro will automatically suggest alternative routes to avoid delays. HERE aggregates and analyses traffic data to reflect real-world road conditions, from sources including live probes, fixed sensors, government data and more than a trillion historical traffic records.

With HERE’s traffic data, Jaguar XF drivers can get to their destination faster and more efficiently.

Using HERE Auto technology means that InControl Touch Pro can offer in-car services once possible only on smartphones, such as sharing an estimated time of arrival with another person with just one touch. If the driver should later encounter traffic, the system automatically sends an updated ETA to the other person.

Connecting the car with the world outside

InControl Touch Pro is integrated with the Jaguar XF’s in-car sensors and connected to the HERE location cloud. If they are low on fuel, drivers get suggestions for the nearest fuel stations from their favourite brand, or with the lowest prices to fill up at.

“Jaguar Land Rover understands that consumer devices have rapidly changed driver expectations so they turned to HERE for our deep experience in providing solutions for automotive and consumers,” said Bruno Bourguet, senior vice president of Sales and Business Development at HERE.

“As the only company that can deliver end-to-end connected driving services on a global scale, we are proud to continue our long term relationship with Jaguar Land Rover and enable their drivers to enjoy great experiences inside and outside of their cars.”

“The automotive industry’s focus must expand from the connected vehicle to the connected driver and ultimately to the connected customer,” said Thilo Koslowski, Vice President and Automotive Practice Leader at Gartner.

“Automotive market leaders will create a smart, cloud-based and cross-platform offering to provide customers with a seamless digital content experience across all of their devices, including the car.”

Expert British stunt man Jim Dowdall, veteran of Hollywood movies including Bond, Bourne and Indiana Jones, drove the all-new Jaguar XF 240 metres across a high-wire to demonstrate the new XF’s lightweight aluminium-intensive construction. The new XF is 80kgs lighter than its closest competitor, resulting in best-in-class efficiency (over 70mpg) and CO2 (104g/km).

The feat took place high over the Royal Dock in London’s Canary Wharf.  Footage of the drive can be viewed here: jaguar.co.uk/newxf
The all-new XF brings an unrivalled blend of refinement, fuel economy, dynamics and design to the business car segment. It will make its global motor show debut in New York on 1 April.

With segment-leading figures for interior space, the all-new XF’s dynamic, coupé-like design is formed around Jaguar’s aluminium-intensive architecture and combines the outstanding proportions, elegant surfaces and pure lines which define all Jaguar cars, with exceptionally low aerodynamic drag.
The cabin utilises a seamless blend of contemporary luxury materials and finishes, traditional Jaguar craftsmanship and state-of-the art technology. With features such as the new InControl Touch Pro premium infotainment system and 12.3-inch TFT instrument cluster.
“In creating the all-new XF, as a design team we have been driven by discipline, the discipline of simplicity. Every exterior line on the XF has a clear purpose – nothing is superfluous. Achieving that simplicity takes time and requires great determination; it’s all too easy to add lines to a car, but much harder to addcharacter by leaving lines out.
“Inside too, we have been driven by the desire to ensure the XF’s cabin is as comforting as it is comfortable. New technology, including our new 10.2-inch touchscreen, is combined carefully with materials that cosset and reassure. The all-new XF has a clear sense of calm and strength, both outside and inside – and I’m proud of my team for delivering that.”
Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar

The original XF’s sleek exterior and luxurious interior made it a desirable, aspirational vehicle. Combined with benchmark driving dynamics, the XF was like nothing else in the segment and has gone on to become Jaguar’s most-awarded car.
The all-new XF retains its predecessor’s core attributes but uses Jaguar’s advanced aluminium-intensive architecture to elevate them to a completely new level. Featuring 75 per cent aluminium, the architecture enables weight savings of up to 190kg over the outgoing model and an increase in torsional stiffness of up to 28 per cent.
The architecture also delivers dramatic improvements in packaging and the proportions so essential to Jaguar design. Though 7mm shorter and 3mm lower than the car it replaces, the all-new XF’s 2,960mm wheelbase is 51mm longer, enabling class-leading rear seat space with more legroom, kneeroom and headroom.
The efficiency gains inherent in the lightweight aluminium construction are complemented by the all-new XF’s refined, powerful engine range. The 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engines are available in 163PS/380Nm and 180PS/430Nm ratings and are offered with specially-optimised six-speed manual- and eight-speed automatic transmissions. In 163PS manual form, the all-new XF delivers 104g/km CO2 and is the lightest, most efficient non-hybrid diesel model in the segment – 80kg lighter than its closest competitor.
All other engines are matched exclusively to eight-speed automatic transmissions. The 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbo diesel benefits from a host of advanced technologies which boost efficiency and refinement still further, and raise output to 300PS and a remarkable 700Nm of torque.  Also available is the renowned 3.0-litre V6 supercharged petrol engine with 380PS/450Nm torque.
The light, stiff bodystructure is also fundamental to the all-new XF’s superb vehicle dynamics. The sophisticated double wishbone and Integral Link suspension – combined with near-50:50 weight distribution – delivers the ideal balance between agility, comfort and refinement.
Incorporating all of the learning from F-TYPE and XE, the meticulously-tuned Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) maintains the XF’s benchmark steering feel and response – and contributes to the all-new XF’s outstanding fuel economy.
Advanced passive damper technology delivers exceptional ride comfort as standard, but for even better control the Adaptive Dynamics system determines the optimum damper settings for the driving conditions.
Jaguar Configurable Dynamics, first developed for F-TYPE, provides the ultimate in control and enables the driver to individually tailor settings of the dampers, steering, engine and eight-speed automatic transmission.
As with XE, rear-wheel drive ability is enhanced too. All-Surface Progress Control, developed for low-speed driving in adverse conditions, automatically manages the brakes and the throttle to deliver the best possible traction, enabling the car to pull away smoothly and without drama: the driver only has to steer.
Infotainment and connectivity is the most advanced Jaguar has ever offered. The all-new InControl Touch Pro system features a 10.2-inch touchscreen and Dual View technology which simultaneously allows the driver to see information such as navigation, while the front seat passenger watches TV or a DVD.
To handle the enormous amounts of data, InControl Touch Pro features a solid-state drive and a quad-core processor, and runs on state-of-the-art, ultra-fast Ethernet – a next-generation network offering exceptional data transfer rates. Combined, they deliver incredible graphics, fast response times and truly exceptional performance.
Complementing InControl Touch Pro is a reconfigurable 12.3-inch TFT instrument cluster. Jaguar Land Rover pioneered this technology with the XJ and Range Rover and is now bringing it to the business car segment.
To make every journey safer and even more relaxing, the all-new XF offers a wide range of advanced driver assistance systems, and is also the first Jaguar to offer full-LED headlights.
The all-new aluminium-intensive Jaguar XF will be manufactured at Jaguar Land Rover’s Castle Bromwich Plant alongside the all-aluminium F-TYPE and XJ.
