USA RECALL - Jaguar Land Rover recalls a number of models for Takata Airbag replacement issues.

  • Owners of 2009-2011 Jaguar XF and 2007-2011 Land Rover Range Rover vehicles are encouraged to visit www.SaferCar.gov to check if their vehicle is included in this initial round of the Takata related recall
In accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, Jaguar Land Rover North America today announced it has begun notifying owners of certain 2009-2011 Jaguar XF and 2007-2011 Land Rover Range Rover vehicles of a recall affecting the safety of passenger side airbags fitted to these vehicles.

For the first phase of this recall, owners of the identified vehicles that are currently, or have ever been, registered in the following areas are encouraged to visit www.SaferCar.gov and enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to find out if their vehicle is included in this recall at this time:
  • US States: Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina and Texas
  • US Territories: Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands (Saipan), and the U.S. Virgin Islands
As parts become available, later this year, affected owners will be notified by a second mailing and instructed to schedule an appointment to take their vehicle to a Jaguar or Land Rover retailer who will replace the front passenger airbag module free of charge.
In the interim, owners of potentially affected vehicles can contact the Jaguar Land Rover North America Customer Relationship Center for further information by calling 1-800-637-6837 (Option 9 for Land Rover) or 1-800-4JAGUAR; visiting www.LandRoverUSA.com or www.JaguarUSA.com; or writing to:
Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC
ATTN: Customer Relationship Center
555 MacArthur Boulevard, Mahwah, NJ 07430
Given the size and complexity of the recall, replacement parts are not immediately available for the affected vehicles. Jaguar Land Rover is working closely with its suppliers to produce components for this repair as quickly as possible. Affected vehicles are being prioritized for repair -- split into four separate phases -- based on geographic zone and vehicle age.
Additional phases of this recall will be added through 2019 based on risk-assessed priority. As the recall is expanded to other geographic zones or vehicle age groups, owners of Jaguar Land Rover vehicles which are affected will be notified as well.
This recall is part of the May 4, 2016 expansion of what was already the largest and most complex safety recall in US history, affecting approximately 68 million cars and trucks on the road today fitted with Takata non-desiccated ammonium nitrate airbag inflators.
Approximately 54,000 Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles of a total affected population of 108,000 are included in the first wave of this recall. Additional remaining affected vehicles will be addressed at a later date, as per the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) specific priority scheme. However, it is important to note no current model year Jaguar or Land Rover vehicles are affected.
Prolonged exposure to combined high heat and humidity can cause the affected inflators to degrade – at varying rates in different conditions – increasing the risk that the front passenger airbag module inflator housing may rupture and deploy abnormally in the event of a crash; potentially resulting in metal fragments striking the passenger or other occupants, resulting in serious injury or death.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
  • Jaguar Land Rover North America is not aware of any case of an airbag module rupture on any of the 108,000 vehicles included in this recall. Owners can continue to use their vehicle until the recall repair has been performed.

Jaguar to pull out all the stops at this years silverstone classic, from New F-Types to C-Types and XJ14 Len Mans cars.

  • Jaw-dropping Art of Performance Tour comes to Silverstone
  • Go drifting in an F-TYPE and take home film of your experience
  • Jaguar XJ14 holds the Silverstone Classic circuit lap record
  • C-types, D-types and E-types all in racing action
Jaguar’s racing heritage has always been massively to the fore at the Silverstone Classic but, for the first time, later this month the legendary British manufacturer will be the Official Experiential Partner to the world’s biggest historic motor racing festival.
Visitors to this year’s Silverstone Classic (29-31 July) will not only be able to see racing Jaguar C-types, D-types, E-types and Group C prototypes in all their nostalgic glory roaring around the famous Grand Prix circuit but they will also be given the chance to experience a state-of-the-art F-TYPE being pushed to the limit within the event’s thrill-laden Adrenaline Zone.

The tyre-smoking Art of Performance Tour will take show-going passengers out of their comfort zones with the heart-pumping thrills of drifting in an F-TYPE… with a professional driver at the wheel. What’s more, this totally free mind-boggling experience will be recorded on video for exhilarated participants to take home.
Jaguar will similarly be entertaining those not seeking quite such an adrenaline rush, allowing them to test their skills with remote control scale replica Jaguar F-TYPEs on a mini drifting circuit.
Away from the Adrenaline Zone, as always a wonderful array of pedigree Jaguars will feature strongly throughout all areas of the ultimate Classic. Between them, the XK and Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Clubs will be celebrating 50 years of the E-Type 2+2, 30 years of the XJ40, 20 years of the XK8 and several other notable milestones in the marque’s rich history with special displays and track parades, while racing Jaguars will be rolling back the years in many of the Classic’s most prestigious showdowns.
Indeed, Jaguars have savoured notable successes in recent years including victories in the Royal Automobile Club Woodcote Trophy for Pre-’56 Sportscars, Sir Stirling Moss Trophy and International Trophy for Pre-’66 GT Cars. The outright lap record around the Silverstone Classic circuit is held by a 1991 Jaguar XJR14 sports-prototype, set by Nic Minassian in 2013’s spectacular Group C retro races. The French ace averaged close to 123mph around the 3.64-mile layout in the remarkable Ross Brawn-designed record-breaker – a sensational marker that’s yet to be topped.
Fans wanting to see all these thoroughbred Jaguars in track action or to have their eyes opened by drifting in an F-TYPE, must buy their tickets in advance. Adult admission prices for the Classic start at £42, with £6 admission for accompanied children aged between 6 and 16-years-old. A wide range of weekend, camping, VIP hospitality and Family Tickets are also available. Adding to the festival’s immense appeal, tickets include free entrance to both racing paddocks, trackside grandstands and live music concerts on Friday and Saturday evenings which this year include The Boomtown Rats, Reef and The Stranglers.

Land Rover is applying its design, technology and innovation expertise to the America’s Cup Class boat.

  • Land Rover reveals key technical areas where expertise is being applied to the Land Rover BAR boat development
  • Jaguar Land Rover’s highly skilled engineers and Land Rover BAR marry knowledge to gain performance advantage over competitors
  • Land Rover BAR CEO Martin Whitmarsh confident ‘F1 on water’ will be won with the help of Land Rover’s vast engineering capabilities
  • The British Challenger for the 35th America’s Cup will launch their America’s Cup Class Race Boat ‘R1’ in December 2016
  • Land Rover BAR head to Oman on 26 – 28 February for next leg of the America’s Cup World Series
Land Rover reveals the technical areas of collaboration currently in development to help create the fastest America’s Cup boat with Land Rover BAR. Typically shrouded in secrecy by the teams racing to win the America’s Cup, this release of information ahead of the first 2016 event of the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series in Oman, Muscat (26-28 February), is a rarity in what is labelled as the most challenging design race in sport.

Land Rover is applying its design, technology and innovation expertise to the America’s Cup Class boat, a multihull catamaran code-named ‘R1’. The boat, weighing over two tonnes, will be capable of speeds in excess of 50knots thanks to a technique known as foiling where the boat lifts clear out of the water to fly on hydrofoils, reducing drag and increasing boat speed and efficiency.
With less than 11 months until the launch, the Land Rover Advanced Engineering team has been working in collaboration with Land Rover BAR’s designers and engineers, developing a series of prototype test boats. The results of the development process will be applied to designing the world’s fastest America’s Cup Class boat.
Tony Harper, Head of Research at Jaguar Land Rover said: “Since the birth of foiling, one of the biggest challenges is understanding how to control these massively powerful machines whilst balancing on a comparatively small surface area. We have delved into our talent base at Jaguar Land Rover to identify the most skilled engineers within the fields of aerodynamics, machine learning and advanced data processing which are an integral part of the workstreams with Land Rover BAR. The ocean is new terrain for us and we plan to apply our findings into the final boat design across the next 11-months and ultimately back into our own research and development units.”
The first key area of collaboration and development sees Land Rover focused on the development of the wing, a 78.6ft carbon fibre ‘hard’ sail the size of a Boeing 737 aeroplane wing. It provides the boat’s only source of thrust. By linking computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and finite element analysis (FEA) technology – programs integral to Land Rover product development – the team is able to analyse complex aerodynamics to increase boat speed.
Land Rover is also making their enormous data processing ability and their advanced Machine Learning expertise available to the team, to help optimise the performance of the boat through identifying trends in the sailing data.
Martin Whitmarsh, Land Rover BAR Chief Executive Officer said: “I think people will be surprised at the rate of improvement spanning the four years between each America’s Cup.
This is Formula 1 on water and, just like F1, traditional methods of engineering and design don’t cut it anymore. The boats are getting quicker, not just in terms of their top speed but also in terms of their acceleration and ability to change direction. We need to not just keep up with, but beat the competition and this is why we need Land Rover to tap into their vast engineering expertise and available testing tools. We are only at the starting line and there is a long way to go but we are making great strides and I can’t wait to see the results over the next year.”
Under the current America’s Cup ruling, the boat cannot hold any stored power so all power generated must come from a combination of the the wing and sailing team, commanding peak levels of fitness during the racing period. Land Rover’s expertise in the field of human/machine interface technologies (HMI) will be used to develop displays and controls to ensure optimum use of the available power.
Sir Ben Ainslie, Land Rover BAR Team Principal and Skipper said: "Ultimately this race needs to be won on both land and water. The America’s Cup is the pinnacle of sailing. It requires the finest sailors in the world and the best team, but importantly, every team is searching for marginal gains from design and technology expertise to create the fastest boat. The biggest challenges for us are the aerodynamics, given most of the boat is out of the water, optimising the boat’s power supply and understanding the control systems through data analysis. The competition is intense and races have regularly been won by a matter of seconds and that’s why having Land Rover involved in this project will help give us an advantage.”
The Land Rover BAR team head to the Oman leg of Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series in third position on 26-28 February.
