Police agency testing once again makes it clear you should not attempt to outrun Ford Police Interceptor – sedan or utility vehicle. In recent testing conducted by both the Michigan State Police and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Ford outperformed the competition to retain its title as fastest and quickest pursuit vehicles.

The EcoBoost^®-powered Ford Police Interceptor sedan bested all competitive vehicles in testing by both agencies, including those equipped with V8 engines; EcoBoost-equipped Police Interceptor utility out-accelerated the competition’s V8-equipped utility vehicle and all V6-powered sedans.

Arie Groeneveld, Ford chief program engineer for police vehicles, says the company’s dedication to the police business does not waver. “This isn’t just bragging rights,” he says. “It’s a question of safety leadership. In terms of both public safety and the safety of our law enforcement officers, the best police chases are the ones that never happen. Intelligent all-wheel drive is standard across the Ford Police Interceptor lineup; competitive vehicles offer only optional systems that do not operate full-time, as Ford police vehicles do.

Michigan State Police testing results

Preliminary results of Michigan State Police testing show the 2017 Ford Police Interceptor sedan with EcoBoost power is fastest of the fast – posting a 0-60-mph time of 5.70 seconds, compared to 6.11 seconds and 6.05 seconds for the 6.0-liter V8 and 5.7-liter V8 sedans offered by competitive manufacturers.

Even bigger performance differences between Ford and the competition come in 0-100 mph runs. Ford Police Interceptor sedan clocked a very quick 13.62-second time in 0-100-mph testing – besting the closest competitor by nearly a second.

That’s not all. EcoBoost-equipped Ford Police Interceptor utility hit 60 mph in 6.40 seconds and 100 mph in 16 seconds. A competitor powered by a 5.3-liter V8 engine posted a 0-60-mph time of 7.97 seconds and a 0-100-mph time of 19.76 seconds.

The icing on the cake? Both Ford Police Interceptor sedan and utility are fastest around Grattan Raceway in Michigan State Police testing of 2017 model year vehicles. Both achieved fastest lap and fastest average lap times – with Police Interceptor sedan achieving the overall win.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department tests affirm Ford’s continued leadership

EcoBoost-powered Police Interceptor sedan repeated as quickest-accelerating vehicle overall in Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department testing, with a 0-60-mph time of 5.6 seconds and a 13.8-second run to 100 mph. The closest competitor posted times of 6.1 seconds to 60 mph and 15.2 seconds to 100 mph.

Ford’s utility with EcoBoost not only out-accelerated competitor police utility vehicles, but also posted quicker 0-60-mph and 0-100-mph times than all V6-powered sedans.

SUMMARY:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Ford Taurus, Ford Flex, Lincoln MKS and Lincoln MKT vehicles equipped with 3.5L GTDI Ecoboost engines and 2013-2015 Ford Taurus Police Interceptor vehicles. A component within the fuel pump electric module (PEM) may overheat causing a loss of electrical power to the fuel pump.

CONSEQUENCE:

A loss of power to the fuel pump will cause the engine to stall or prevent the vehicle from starting, increasing the risk of a crash.

REMEDY:

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the fuel PEM part number and replace the fuel PEM, as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin September 12, 2016. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16S31.

USA SALES NOVEMBER - FORD/LINCOLN - The Giant Blue Oval continues to push sales higher, but only just.

• Ford Motor Company U.S. sales of 187,794 vehicles, up slightly at 0.4 percent versus last November  
• F-Series retail sales increase 16 percent, driving total F-Series sales to a 10 percent gain, with commercial vans up 59 percent; best November Ford Truck performance in eight years

• All-new Edge sales up 6 percent; new Explorer up 1 percent on strong demand for new high-end Platinum series

Ford Motor Company November U.S. sales totaled 187,794 vehicles, up slightly at 0.4 percent compared to a year ago.

Through November, overall Ford sales are up 5 percent versus the same period a year ago.

Ford’s lower incentive spending and strong model series mix in November boosted average transaction prices $3,800 versus year-ago levels – the largest gain among any major automaker. Ford cars, SUVs and trucks all delivered higher transaction prices.

“We saw strong customer demand for our cars and SUVs with the latest technology and sold a very rich mix in November,” said Mark LaNeve, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service. “F-Series and commercial vans also were very strong, with an 18 percent gain for the month and our best November sales performance for Ford Trucks in eight years.”

F-Series sales totaled 65,192 trucks in November, with retail sales increasing 16 percent and a 10 percent total F-Series gain.

Ford commercial van sales increased 59 percent, with 17,815 vehicles sold last month. November’s van performance marked Ford’s best November sales month since 1984. The all-new Transit sales totaled 9,584, almost doubling year-ago sales. Transit Connect sales of 4,237 vans reached best-ever November sales, a 94 percent increase.

All-new Edge delivered a 6 percent increase versus a year ago, with 8,137 vehicles sold. Ford’s new Explorer sales gained 1 percent last month, with 15,141 SUVs sold, marking its best November since 2004.

100,000th Police Interceptor produced in just three years, it's the best you can get !

On April 23, employees at Troy Design and Manufacturing, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ford Motor Company, celebrated a major milestone – production of Police Interceptor No. 100,000. Since 2012, the 54,000-square-foot Troy Design and Manufacturing upfit facility has been the single source for America’s best-selling line of law enforcement vehicles.

Troy Design and Manufacturing has the flexibility to produce between 600 and 1,200 vehicles per week depending on demand. It takes an estimated 5.5 hours for a vehicle to be completely upfitted with law enforcement equipment. 

Law enforcement agencies from across the United States – and around the world – can select from more than 125 packages, including different lighting options, wraps and styles. Police Interceptor No. 100,000 will be put into service with the Chicago police force later this year.

USA - RECALLS - FORD - Two recalls from Ford for over 210,000 vehicles, its started already.

Ford is issuing two safety recalls. No accidents or injuries are attributed to either of these conditions. Details are as follows:

Ford issues safety recall for certain 2010-2013 Ford Taurus, Lincoln MKS and Ford Police Interceptor sedans for interior door handle issue

Ford is issuing a safety recall for approximately 205,000 2010-2013 Ford Taurus, Lincoln MKS and Ford Police Interceptor sedans due to an issue with the spring that controls the interior door handles. If the spring is unseated, the door may become unlatched in a side-impact crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this condition.

Affected vehicles include certain 2010-2013 Ford Taurus vehicles built Dec. 1, 2009 to July 31, 2010 and Feb. 1, 2011 to Nov. 30, 2012 at Chicago Assembly Plant; certain 2010-2013 Lincoln MKS vehicles built June 2, 2011 to Oct. 31, 2011 at Chicago Assembly Plant; and certain 2010-2013 Ford Police Interceptor sedans built Dec. 1, 2009 to July 31, 2010 and Feb. 1, 2011 to Nov. 30, 2012 at Chicago Assembly Plant.

Ford is aware of 204,945 vehicles in North America, including 194,889 in the United States and federalized territories, 9,948 in Canada and 108 in Mexico.

Dealers will inspect all four interior door handle assemblies and repair or replace the handles as necessary. This will be done at no cost to customers.

Ford issues safety recall for certain 2014 Ford Transit Connect vehicles for safety belt fastener torque issue

Ford is issuing a safety recall for approximately 16,100 2014 Ford Transit Connect vehicles for a potential issue with safety belt fasteners that may not have been tightened properly. Safety belt fasteners that do not meet installation torque specifications may loosen over time, which may cause them not to function as intended, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this condition.

Affected vehicles include certain 2014 Ford Transit Connect vans built Nov. 6, 2013 to Sept. 20, 2014 at Valencia Assembly Plant. All 16,091 vehicles are located in the United States.

Dealers will replace and properly tighten the safety belt fasteners. This will be done at no cost to customers. Dealers will also replace and properly torque the cargo tie-downs in the cargo area.

Ford Motor Company U.S. sales totaled 187,000 vehicles in November, down 2 percent from a year ago. The overall sales decline was anticipated, as Ford manages its inventory levels as vehicle availability starts growing for the all-new Ford Mustang, F-150 and Transit models.  

“Our all-new Mustang is moving quickly off dealer lots,” said John Felice, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service. “Mustang had its best November sales in eight years and is turning in just eight days on dealer lots, on average. Escape saw record sales for November, while Lincoln sales continue gaining momentum, with the brand posting its best sales since 2007.”

Escape sales increased 22 percent versus last year with 25,528 vehicles sold, representing the vehicle’s best-ever November performance. Explorer sales of 14,949 vehicles marks a 13 percent increase, making this Explorer’s best November performance since 2004.

Mustang surpassed the 8,000-vehicle mark in November, with 8,728 cars sold. Mustang’s largest markets, Texas and California, saw retail sales increases of 46 percent and 76 percent, respectively.

Lincoln sales of 8,113 vehicles provided a 21 percent gain and the brand’s best November in seven years. Lincoln MKC sales represent its second month above the 2,000 vehicle mark, with 2,152 vehicles sold as it continues to strengthen the brand overall. The new Navigator was up 88 percent with sales of 1,433 vehicles, representing Navigator’s best November sales since 2007.
