Purpose

I will try my best to provide detailed info on various cars and what is like to live with them, I have already produced a few for Jaguar-car-forums, I will do my best to be unbiased, but it will be hard for some cars. I will re-produce press releases and copy from other motoring news.

Arrinera Racing inspired by Anglo-Polish sporting and historical ties produced a 7 litre V8 Hussarya GT.

  • Arrinera Racing inspired by Anglo-Polish sporting and historical ties
  • New GT powered by 7-litre V8 in modular spaceframe chassis
  • Plans forming for Polish-designed supercar to race in 2017
  • Road-legal Track Day version of Hussarya GT to follow
Polish supercar manufacturer Arrinera Racing headed to Brooklands in the past week to present two of its new Hussarya GTs that have been inspired by its nation’s unique historical and sporting ties to Britain, as the company pushes ahead with plans for its competition debut in 2017.
The GT, which became the first Polish car to spin its wheels at Goodwood’s Festival of Speed in the summer, offers high performance through an attractive, uncomplicated, easy to drive and maintain concept that will appeal to amateur drivers looking for a strong and safe new alternative to used premium-brand racing cars.

The Hussarya is powered by an LS7 V8 engine driven through a six-speed Hewland sequential racing gearbox. Its modular steel spaceframe chassis mirrors the structures of Hurricanes and Spitfires in which Polish pilots made such a significant contribution to the allied air campaigns of World War II. But inspiration has also been drawn from Polish-related feats on the world’s race tracks, too – particularly from the pioneering days of motorsport at Brooklands.
Eliot Zborowski and his son Count Louis were both wealthy racing drivers with Polish family lineage who played key roles in British motorsport’s earliest days.
Eliot Zborowski, born in New Jersey, was an accomplished horseman before the growing tide of interest in automobiles swept him up in 1898. It is said that in 1903 it was Zborowski who suggested green should become Britain’s national racing colour – in honour of Ireland. The Gordon Bennett Cup, the precursor to Grand Prix motor races, was run in Kildare because of strict speed restrictions on British roads, and Zborowski is alleged to have made the gesture in tribute to the host country, which led to the foundation of what would become the world-famous British Racing Green. He was killed in the same year at La Turbie hillclimb in France driving a Mercedes 60 factory racer.
His son Count Louis Zborowski also caught the racing bug – and the sport claimed him, too. He died in the 1924 Italian Grand Prix at Monza when his Mercedes hit a tree. But his legacy had already been assured by the creation of two cars known as ‘Chitty Bang Bang’, which he raced at Brooklands. Zborowski and his aero-engined monsters inspired James Bond author Ian Fleming to write ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’, his children’s book that was also turned into a popular movie starring Dick Van Dyke.
Piotr R. Frankowski, Arrinera’s Competition & Marketing Manager, said: “To see a pair of our Hussaryas here at Brooklands is a special moment, especially as they are resplendent in green. The feats of the Zborowskis and in particular Count Louis’ association with this true home of British motor racing is a fitting inspiration for a proud Polish company. In the Hussarya, we wanted to present a car that is beautiful, very strong and durable, easy to drive and maintain – and very safe.”
The Arrinera Hussarya GT made its world debut at the 2016 Autosport International Show in Birmingham. The car’s body is designed by Pavol Burkatskyy with aerodynamics by Professor Janusz Piechna of Warsaw Technical University, and the mechanicals engineered by Krzysztof Stelmaszczuk. It is built in Cambridgeshire and is expected to race in Britain and Europe next year ahead of the launch of a road-legal track day version.

Barons is joining owners of Rolls & Bentley cars this weekend to stage a prestige classic car automobilia sale. (PIC HEAVY)

Barons is joining vast numbers of Rolls-Royce and Bentley owners this weekend at palatial Burghley House, Stamford, Lincolnshire.

The auction house is staging a Rolls-Royce, Bentley and prestige classic car and automobilia sale on Saturday, June 25th, at the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts’ Club three-day international Annual Rally and Concours d’Elegance, which attracts thousands of cherished motor cars and their owners from all over the world.

The sale starts at 10am with over 200 items of automobilia. A tremendously diverse range of items is on offer, making it the perfect ‘hunting ground’ for those after a special item for their collection or as a unique gift.
One particularly interesting lot is the ‘Winged Icarus’ factory mascot designed by Frederick Gordon Crosby when commissioned by W O Bentley to find an alternative to the winged B mascot for the Cricklewood-built factory cars of the 1920s (£900-£1,000).
Another fascinating lot is the ‘mystery mascot’, a Rolls-Royce prototype created around 1911 which has baffled historians and enthusiasts for years. Reputedly the ‘missing link’ between the Whisper and Spirit of Ecstasy mascots that were fitted to the 40/50HP Silver Ghosts of 1911, it carries an estimate of £600-£1,000.
Budding chauffeurs can acquire a smart silver Rolls-Royce chauffeur’s lapel badge, complete with a copy of the booklet ‘What a Good Chauffeur Should Know’ (£150-£250), while Art Deco fans could well be tempted by the delightful 1920s showroom deskpiece featuring a clock and a miniature Spirit of Ecstasy (£200-£400).
The motor car sale begins at 2pm on Saturday, and Barons is presenting a splendid selection, with Rolls-Royces and Bentleys spanning eight decades from the 1920s to the 1990s and including some very rare machines indeed.
The magnificent 1961 Bentley S2 Chinese Eye Continental Drophead Coupé (£195,000-£225,000) was bought new by John Bloom, whose business empire included the Rolls Razor and Electromatic Washing Machine Companies.
He actually had the car converted to a Rolls-Royce Chinese Eye, but it was later restored to its Bentley identity by Wren Renovations. Other owners have included the famous pianist Russ Conway and the Managing Director of Bristol Motor Cars.
Another stunning Bentley Continental comes in the form of the 1965 S3 Continental Flying Spur, (£115,000-£135,000), while earlier Bentley design is showcased by the glamorous 1936 Vanvooren Pillarless Saloon (£80,000-£100,000).
The sale also features a most appropriate registration number – BNT 5 – which is being sold in aid of St Margaret’s Hospice in Yeovil (£2,000-£3,000).
Rolls-Royce produced a glorious range of individual machines in the 1920s and 30s. These are well represented at Barons at Burghley House, with entries including the head-turning 1926 Phantom 1 Open Tourer LWB Pullman de Ville by Barker (£90,000-£110,000).
Among the non-Rolls-Royce and Bentley element of the motor car sale is a very fine 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Pagoda which has covered less than 20 miles in the last ten years and a very pretty, and rare, 1967 Triumph TR4 1RS Surrey Top which has had just one owner. Estimates are £30,000-£50,000 and £21,000-£25,000 respectively.
Luxury motoring needn’t come at a luxury price. The 1977 Silver Shadow II in the sale was in daily use until dry-stored. It comes with a wealth of history and its original build plan and car assembly summary, handbooks etc. and requires a little TLC to make it a lovely car – and has an estimate of just £1,720-£3,000.

Anglia Car Auctions set a new auction house record in its June Classic Car Sale.

Anglia Car Auctions set a new auction house record in its June Classic Car Sale with the sale of a 1962 Maserati 3500 GT for £117,600 including premium, more than three times its highest estimate.

Proprietor Lyn George said: “It was a great auction with a diverse catalogue and we’d like to thank all the vendors and bidders who came and supported the sale. We still have some outstanding provisional bids, which we feel confident will take the final figure to over £2,000,000.”

Other estimate busters included a genuine 59,000 miles 1987 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth barn find, with an estimate of £15-20,000, which saw the hammer down at £47,250 including premium.

ACA’s success with Mercedes ‘Pagoda’ sales continued with a two-owner 1967 250 selling at the higher end of its estimate at £81,900 including premium, while a 1957 190SL rested at the lower end, selling at £61,950 plus premium.

The limited edition BMW E30 M3 Europameister sold at £38,850, with all but one of the dozen BMWs on offer also finding new homes.
