WORLWIDE SALES JANUARY - MERCEDES - 2017 has started with double digit growth worldwide.

  • Mercedes-Benz delivered 178,467 vehicles worldwide last month (+18.3%) , more than ever before in a January
  • Over 30% growth in the Asia-Pacific region
  • Ongoing success in China: with nearly 59.000 cars sold in January and a plus of roughly 40%, the previous best month was surpassed by over 12,000 units
  • Unit sales of the E-Class Saloon and Estate increased by nearly 75%
Mercedes-Benz started the new year with double-digit growth and its 47th record month in succession. Last month, 178,467 vehicles with the three-pointed star were delivered to customers (+18.3%), more than ever before in a January. 
In the first month of this year, Mercedes-Benz was the premium brand with the most new-car registrations in markets including Germany, Switzerland, Portugal, Japan, USA and Canada.
“In January, more than 178,000 customers decided in favour of a Mercedes-Benz. With a double-digit growth rate, we had an outstanding start 2017 and set at the same time another sales record”, states Britta Seeger, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars Marketing & Sales since January 1, 2017. 
“In 2017, we will introduce a number of new exciting products such as the new S-Class Saloon, the new E-Class Coupé and Cabriolet, and the new GLA that will inspire our customers even further.”
Mercedes-Benz unit sales by region and market
In January, Mercedes-Benz increased its unit sales in Europe by 12.3% to a new high of 61,670 vehicles delivered to customers. In Germany, the biggest European market, sales of 18,017 units in the first month of the year were 14.2% higher than in the prior-year month. Mercedes-Benz achieved double-digit growth rates also in Great Britain, Italy, Belgium, Portugal, Sweden and Poland last month.
In the Asia-Pacific region, Mercedes-Benz continued its strong growth with the best-ever number of 82,583 vehicles sold this January – an increase of 30.2%. In China, thanks to an increase of 39.3%, for the first time in one month more than 50,000 Mercedes-Benz vehicles were sold. The number of 58,799 cars delivered to customers was actually 12,000 units more than the previous best month. The bestselling models in China were the GLC as well as the long-wheelbase versions of the C- and E-Class Saloon. In South Korea, Mercedes-Benz increased its unit sales by 47% and set a new record for a January.
Mercedes-Benz started the year in the NAFTA region with a 6.4% increase in unit sales to a new best-ever figure. Last month, 30,001 automobiles were delivered to customers in the USA, Canada and Mexico. In all three countries, the Stuttgart-based company with the three-pointed star sold more cars than ever before in a January. A total of 25,527 Mercedes-Benz vehicles were delivered to customers in the USA – an increase of 3.5%.
Mercedes-Benz unit sales by model
The first year of full availability for the new E-Class started with a new sales record: 29,963 Saloons and Estates were handed over to customers worldwide in January, representing an increase of nearly 75% compared with the prior-year month.
The SUVs continue to contribute to the growth of Mercedes-Benz. Strong demand in January resulted in sales of 65,004, a new sales record for the first month of the year (+20.5%). This year, there should be additional sales impetus from the new GLA, which had its world premiere at the beginning of the year in the USA, one of its biggest markets.
The dream cars from Mercedes-Benz started the year 2017 with strong growth in unit sales. In January, sales increased by 51.3% with 10,894 Roadsters, Cabriolets and Coupés handed over to customers worldwide. This year, the dream-car family will be joined by the new E-Class Cabriolet. And the new E-Class Coupé has been rolling off the assembly line in Bremen since January; it will be in the showrooms as of March.

This January, 9,649 cars of the smart brand were delivered worldwide, an increase of 3.5% compared with the prior-year month. The urban microcar is very popular in the Chinese market and achieved a new sales record there last month.
With new services going beyond the mobility of the car itself, smart is increasingly being developed into a centre for service providing. The recently presented service “smart ready to share” makes private car sharing as simple, safe and uncomplicated as using car2go, and will be launched in Germany this spring.

The Suzuki Ignis moves another step nearer to taking the World Car Of The Year Award.

Suzuki is well known as the ‘Small Car Experts’ and is pleased to announce that the recently launched IGNIS has made it as a finalist in the new Urban Car category of the 2017 World Car of The Year.
To qualify for the initial judging process, vehicles had to be less than four metres long, suitable in design for everyday use in an urban environment and also on sale in two Continents by the deadline of Spring 2017. 
At 3.70 metres in length, the IGNIS Mini Crossover qualified for judging and is now shortlisted with just four other new cars.

The World Car of the Year judging panel comprises of 73 Automotive Industry journalists with eight of these representing the UK and Republic of Ireland.
World Car of The Year (UK Vice-Chair) Mike Rutherford comments: "Suzuki has seen off many rival manufacturers from all corners of the globe to become a 2017 World Car finalist. 
"As our 70-plus jurors have decided and as I have long suspected, Suzuki builds some of the finest small cars on the market - thus its official position as a finalist. The company may yet go on to lift the World Urban Car trophy at the New York International Motor Show in April."
The new IGNIS was first launched in the Japanese domestic market, unveiled for Europe at the Paris Motor Show last Autumn and went on sale in January 2017. In addition to its stylish exterior design it features excellent visibility, compact dimensions and a spacious cabin with ample luggage space. The development goal was to create purely iconic crossover styling that is undoubtedly Suzuki.
IGNIS is powered by a 90PS 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine and is available with optional ALLGRIP four wheel drive. It also offers optional SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) technology that lowers CO2 emissions to 97g/km.
The IGNIS SZ5 model offers the latest in safety technology with stereo cameras monitoring the distance between the vehicle and other objects, as well as the shape of those objects. This new technology is the basis for three advanced safety functions: Dual Camera Brake Support (DCBS), Lane Departure Warning, and Weaving Alert.
In the UK, IGNIS is already proving popular with sales of 560 in its first month. 

Mercedes has launched a reservation service for the all-new X-Class Pick up Truck in the UK.

Due to phenomenal early demand for the X-Class, which hasn’t even been unveiled yet, Mercedes-Benz Vans has launched a reservation service to enable potential UK customers to leave a refundable reservation fee to ensure they are the amongst the first to order the exciting new pickup.
Interested customers can visit https://www.reservexclass.mbvans.co.uk/to place their refundable reservation fee of £1,000 to ensure that they will be given the first opportunity to order their X-Class (arriving in the UK in 2018).

The Fiat 124 Spider has been named Best Convertible in yet another Car of the year awards ceremony.

The Fiat 124 Spider has been named Best Convertible by contracthireandleasing.com in their annual Car of the Year Awards.
A panel of judges, comprising of road testers and writers, honoured the roadster for its combination of good looks, engaging driving dynamics and comfort.

The road to the world Car of the year gets closer as the finalists are announced.

The Road to the World Car continues with today’s announcement of the finalists in six award categories.
This release kicks off the countdown for the 2017 World Car Awards (WCA) prize-giving ceremony to be hosted by the New York International Auto Show on Thursday, April 13, 2017. 
Winners of the 2017 World Car of the Year, World Luxury Car, World Performance Car, World Green Car, World Car Design of the Year and the inaugural World Urban Car will all be declared at this time.
2017 marks the fourth consecutive year that the World Car Awards have retained their ranking as the number one automotive awards program in the world in terms of media reach.
The Global Trends Report, presented annually by Prime Research and Autoneum, will also be announced during the New York show press conference and media breakfast hosted by Bridgestone Corporation. The report is the culmination of research and insights across the past six months.
A jury of 75 distinguished international automotive journalists selected the following finalists by secret ballot based on their evaluation with each candidate as part of their professional work. The international accounting firm KPMG tabulated the jurors’ ballots; then announced the finalists today.

Cars eligible for the 2017 World Car Design of the Year award are taken from the list of World Car candidates or may be included as a stand-alone entry provided the vehicle is available in quantities of at least 10 in one major market during the period beginning January 1, 2016 and ending May 31, 2017. Candidates may be pre-production or all-new production.
A design panel consisting of six highly respected world design experts was asked to first review each candidate, and then establish a short-list of recommendations for the jurors. 
The design experts are in alpha order: Masatsugu Arimoto (Japan – Freelance design journalist), Anne Asensio (Vice-President, Design - Dassault Systemes), Gernot Bracht (Germany – Pforzheim Design School), Patrick le Quément (Designer and President of the Strategy Committee - The Sustainable Design School), Sam Livingstone (U.K.  - Car Design Research and Royal College of Art) and Tom Matano (USA - School of Industrial Design at Academy of Art University in San Francisco)

The Road to the World Car began in Paris on September 29, was followed by a five day stop in Los Angeles for test-drives in November, and continues with today’s finalists’ announcement. The next stop is at the Geneva International Auto Show on Tuesday, March 7 when the top three finalists in all categories will be announced. The journey ends at the New York International Auto Show on Thursday, April 13, 2017 when all winners are declared.
