The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has recently opened up an investigation into almost 200,000 Nissan vehicles for potentially faulty brakes.
The affected vehicles include model year 2013 and 2014 Sentra and Versa vehicles. After receiving eight consumer complaints about the two vehicles, the NHTSA opened up a formal investigation. The consumers stated that their cars continued to travel even as the brake pedal was engaged.
As of right now, there are no accidents or injuries related to this issue. In one of the complaints, the owner of a 2013 Nissan Sentra that had under 150 miles on it attempted to stop at a red light, only to have the car continue to creep forward. Only the implementation of the parking brake stopped the vehicle from moving.
"This incident was very scary to say the least. What I cannot understand is how such an important/critical system of a brand new car could fail in four days," said the owner in the complaint.
Although there hasn't been a recall announced in association with this issue, the NHTSA is investigating the claims, and determining if a recall will be needed to address the situation. Nissan is currently working with the regulators to solve the problem.
