Another month passes by, and we have five full months of data, so that should be more than enough to see how the rest of the year will fare, as it stands the UK market is running at 11% up on the same time last year, which accounts for 110,000 units, so the 2.2 million that's been bandied about is looking like an easy achievement.
The usual suspects take the top five places for both month and year, with Fords top seller Fiesta and Focus, Vauxhall's Evergreen Corsa and Astra and VW's MK7 Golf, followed by the Polo, A3, Qashqai and FIAT 500, and a big surprise, Vauxhall's Mokka pops in at number ten, the first time it has appeared in the UK top sales chart, the same cars are in the top ten for the year to date, with the Mokka being replaced by the BMW 3-Series.
The biggest percentage increases are again MG, with an 842% upswing on last year, that's all down to the new MG3, and the odd MG6, and with a rather big sales push for the MG6, there should be a few extra sales there, Dacia is the best of the increases, as there numbers move in the thousands rather than the tens, but a rather nice 113% increase is keeping them and Renault happy.
Chevy, again, has a large drop, along with fellow US brand Chrysler, but Jeep is having a great time lately with huge increases not only in the UK but the US where it has just had its best ever month in the history of the brand, but it is the home grown brands of Ford and Vauxhall that have a huge stranglehold on the UK having about 25% of the market between them, VW is next on 8%, followed by Audi, however if you add together all the VAG brands they are far and away the market leaders with over 20% share.
Jaguar has shone again, with another jump in sales, the F-Type Coupe helping to add to these figures, it will be next June when things start to fly with the addition of the XE, and later in the year with the new XF, and early 2016 with the new SUV, so the next 18-24 months are going to be very busy for Jaguar, whereas Land Rover will have not so busy a time.
The Range Rover brand has been completed, well, nearly, there is a new baby baby Rangie on the cards to slot below the Evoque, but that's not for a good three years, in the mean time, the entire Land Rover brand is being replaced, first will be the new Discovery Sport, and Discovery (Freelander) and the defender, which is not utilising the concept DC100, a totally new Defender concept is in the process of being developed, which is a shame as the DC100 is a really funky up to date car, that could have given Land Rover a more youthful appearance, and a younger client base too.
Well, that's it for another month, lots of increases, a few decreases, and some surprises too, with the conclusion of June, it will be the half year point, and the countdown down to XE starts.
