We've seen the all-new 2015 Ford F-150 at auto shows across the nation, but now we have finally managed to score shots of an early prototype for the next-generation SVT Raptor. The new Raptor, expected to be released as a 2016 or 2017 model year truck, features a distinct new grille and hood design.
It also appears to adopt an aluminum crew cab body just like the new F-150. This new body structure may lead to a serious weight reduction, which means better performance and fuel economy.
But a few noticeable features are missing from this new Raptor. The prototype Raptor appears not to have any blue shock tubes in the rear wheel wells, suggesting Ford may have switched suppliers for the car's suspension.
There are also no exhaust tips, giving the truck a clean, streamlined appearance but limiting its rugged appeal. In addition to these photos, we have heard that the next generation Raptor may come with a downsized engine for the new generation. Our spy shooters heard the distinct sound of a EcoBoost V-6 when following the Raptor.
Whether the final Raptor will include this engine remains to be seen, but we hope this won't take away the performance of this off-road monster.
