The upgraded Citroën Berlingo, built to improve expectation.

A pioneer in the leisure and LCV sectors, the Citroën Berlingo has always delivered a modern, practical response to customer expectations, as illustrated by the 2.9 million units sold since 1996. A vehicle with a strong personality, the Citroën Berlingo is roomy, versatile and functional: the ideal partner for all situations, with the Multispace version for families and the LCV version for business users.

A benchmark in the leisure vehicle and LCV segments, the Citroën Berlingo is being updated for 2015 with a new take on function and design, strength and comfort, simplicity and technology.

To be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2015, the New Citroën Berlingo maintains its modular design, space, comfort and equipment, while becoming more:
  • MODERN: a new expressive design with a front end that is more assertive in its appearance, without being aggressive. The new design features a new front bumper with re-positioned LED DRLs and a new radiator grille. Multispace versions also gain two new body colours; Cumulus Grey and Moka Grey.
  • Cheerful: all the features that are fundamental to the comfort of Berlingo are retained.
On Multispace versions, this includes the Modutop® roof, advanced comfort in terms of seating and suspension, three independent seats in row two and an opening rear window. On LCV versions, the Extenso® cabin design remains available with its three modular front seats.
These strong features take their place in a re-designed cabin environment with, in particular, two new upholstery designs for Multispace.
  • Ingenious: intelligent technology for easier use, with the arrival of a new 7-inch Touchdrive Interface that groups media and navigation functions together, along with Mirror Screen technology. Available from November 2015 production, Mirror Screen allows the driver to duplicate their smartphone content and stay connected at all times via the 7-inch touchscreen. New Citroën Berlingo also offers Active City Brake from November 2015 production, along with a reversing camera and front parking sensors from June 2015 production, to deliver an easier and more relaxed drive. Another aspect of this vehicle’s intelligent technology are the efficient, new-generation BlueHDi Euro 6 diesel engines.
1.     MODERN
Robust and friendly, the New Citroën Berlingo is re-emphasising its character with a more expressive, but non-aggressive design for both the Multispace and LCV versions. The fully re-designed front end provides a modern, dynamic look that perfectly reflects Citroën’s mindset.

The bumper, radiator grille and DRLs have been carefully integrated to give the front a new, updated appearance. The new bumper and radiator design has been created to sit lower and wider to underline the robust strength of the New Citroën Berlingo. On selected Multispace models, the LED DRLs are re-positioned for a suggestion of greater power. The re-worked chevrons are integrated into the design with horizontal lines angling out towards the headlamps to embody Citroën’s brand identity.

2.     CHEERFUL

The New Citroën Berlingo Multispace is a vehicle with compact dimensions: 4.38m long, 1.81m tall (minus the door mirrors) and a 2.73m wheelbase. Defined by its space and versatility, this version sets the standard in the leisure vehicle segment.

Spacious: the roomy cabin provides segment-beating knee room for passengers at the rear (24.5cm) and a generous boot capacity of 675-litres or up to 3,000-litres with the seats folded down in row two.

Versatile & functional: the New Citroën Berlingo Multispace remains as friendly and functional as ever.

The seating layout is modular, with three independent seats in the second row. The cabin also features generous amounts of storage space, particularly with the airy and functional Modutop® roof. Providing up to 170-litres of internal storage space, all of these practical features have proved highly popular since the vehicle’s launch.

A vehicle that is functional both inside and out, the New Citroën Berlingo features a range of winning combinations for all uses, such as one or two sliding side doors, a tailgate with a window that opens for easy and direct access to the boot, the Modutop® roof and asymmetric opening rear doors to make it easier to carry long objects.

Interior ambience: a comfortable vehicle is first and foremost a vehicle whose interior ambience is designed to make all the passengers feel at ease. To support this approach, the New Citroën Berlingo Multispace gains two new upholstery.

The driving position maintains its ergonomic layout, while the efficient and attractive dashboard design makes driving a pleasure. The gear lever is dashboard-mounted, the driver’s seat is height-adjustable, while the steering wheel is adjustable for height and reach. Given its height of 1.80m, the New Citroën Berlingo Multispace has a large glazed area of 4.6m2 for excellent visibility (including a large panoramic windscreen, large windows and rear quarter lights) and a saloon car-style driving position.

Driving comfort: on both the Multispace and LCV versions, the McPherson-type suspension ensures a comfortable drive whatever the state of the road. Borrowed from the Citroën C4 Picasso, this proven suspension system delivers pin-sharp steering and excellent driving comfort.

For the onboard acoustics, the words ‘peace’ and ‘quiet’ come to mind. Through the careful design and precise assembly of components, New Berlingo features optimised aerodynamics and minimises noise in the cabin. The engine is encapsulated in an acoustic cocoon, there is gravel protection for the floor pan and sound absorbent materials in the cabin.

3.     INGENIOUS

High-tech intelligence for a more relaxed drive
The Citroën Berlingo is already specified with equipment to make life easier. This includes parking sensors, a speed limiter and cruise control, automatic lights (included in the Automatic Pack), hill-start assist and Grip Control – an advanced anti-skid function that improves front-wheel traction on all types of terrain.

In 2015, the New Citroën Berlingo is set to gain a number of new technologies:
  • Active City Brake: an automatic braking system designed to prevent collisions at low speed.
A short-range radar mounted at the top of the windscreen detects any obstacles ahead, such as moving or stationary vehicles in the same lane. At speeds of up to 30kph, it identifies the possible risk of an accident and communicates directly with the braking control unit to stop the vehicle or to limit impact by reducing vehicle speed. The driver has no need to touch the brake pedal. The automatic braking function can bring the vehicle to a complete stop if necessary. In this case, the vehicle will stop temporarily (for around 1.5 seconds) to enable the driver to take control by applying the brake.
  • Front parking sensors: are now introduced, in addition to rear parking sensors. These complementary technologies make lighter work of manoeuvring in all situations.
  • Reversing camera: the New Citroën Berlingo can be equipped with a reversing camera for easier day-to-day parking. When the driver puts the vehicle into reverse, the camera sends a picture of the rear view to the new 7-inch touchscreen. The driver can then manoeuvre easily using the guide lines on the screen.
High-tech intelligence contributing to easier use

The New Citroën Berlingo gains a contemporary edge with the latest easy-to-use brand technologies, such as a new 7-inch Touchdrive Interface that gives the dashboard a simpler, more streamlined look. Featuring new telematics, this system includes more functions than the previous generation:
  • A new touchscreen navigation function (available on Multispace versions in the UK), makes it possible for the driver to view maps in perspective, display speed limits, take account of traffic conditions & select the most fuel-efficient route.
  • A media function, which covers the radio, audio streaming & the connection of portable devices.
  • A telephone function, with hands-free using the Bluetooth® connection, directory access & double call management.
  • Vehicle parameter settings.
Featuring Mirror Screen technology, this new Touchdrive Interface lets users run their smartphone apps safely while on the road. It also introduces third-party applications such as Coyote and online radio using a wired or wireless connection (available from November 2015).

The New Citroën Berlingo lets drivers use their smartphone’s voice recognition function to safely make calls, select and play music, or read and write text messages, all without taking their eyes off the road. This function is activated using the voice control button on the driving position and requires a compatible telephone connected to the vehicle via Bluetooth®.

Technological intelligence with efficient & refined engines

With the arrival of the New Citroën Berlingo, the engine range available from launch expands still further with, in particular, the BlueHDi diesel family. Launched by Citroën at the end of 2013, this new generation of engines cuts nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions and reduces CO2 emissions by up to 4%. With the BlueHDi engines, the brand meets the future Euro 6 standard. For the BlueHDi 120 S&S engine, the Citroën Berlingo gains a 6-speed manual gearbox for the first time, for greater driveability over any distance.

Fuel consumption and emission figures for the Citroën Berlingo Multispace diesel engine range are as follows:

  • BlueHDi 75 manual: 65.7mpg (4,3l/100 km) & 113g of CO2
  • BlueHDi 100 manual: 4,3l/100 km and 113g of CO2
  • BlueHDi 100 S&S manual: 4,1l/100 km and 109g of CO2
  • BlueHDi 100 S&S ETG6 engine: 4,2l/100 km and 109g of CO2
  • BlueHDi 120 S&S 6-speed manual: 4,4l/100 km and 115g of CO2
NOTE: Homologation pending

These engines are able to satisfy the Euro 6 standard with an innovative exhaust system comprising:
  • An oxidation catalyst positioned at the rear of the engine to eliminate the hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide from combustion.
  • An SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) module, positioned upstream of the particulate filter. With the injection of AdBlue® (a mixture of water and urea), the module transforms up to 90% of nitrogen oxides (NOx) into water vapour and nitrogen.
  • An additive particulate filter, launched as a world first in 2000 by the PSA Group, designed to eliminate up to 99.9% of particulates.
The innovative and unique character of this exhaust line lies in its specific layout: the SCR module positioned upstream of the additive particulate filter is the only after-treatment system able to reduce NOx emissions by up to 90% as well as reducing CO2 emissions by up to 4%.
The AdBlue® is stored in a 17-litre tank at the rear of the vehicle. This quantity is sufficient for 20,000 km.

THE NEW CITROËN BERLINGO LCV

Citroën also has a solution for business users. The LCV version of the New Citroën Berlingo has a range of payloads, engines and equipment for all types of use.

Still available in two different lengths, L1 (volume up to 3.7 m3) and L2 (volume up to 4.1 m3), the New Citroën Berlingo has a maximum loading space, big enough for two Europallets. Intelligently designed vehicle access makes loading both safe and easy, with wide sliding side doors and 60/40 asymmetric rear doors opening to 180°.

For greater versatility, business users can take advantage of the modular Extenso® cabin:
  • Room for three people to sit side-by-side.
  • The side passenger seat folds away to create a flat floor for loads up to 3m long in L1 and 3.25m in L2. This configuration increases the effective volume by 400-litres, taking load capacity to 3.7 m3 in L1 and 4.1 m3 in L2.
  • The side passenger seat cushion can also be raised and placed against the backrest, in the same way as a cinema seat, in order to place tall loads directly in the cabin.
  • The backrest of the central seat folds to provide a tabletop workspace.
  • An additional 7.5-litre storage compartment is available under the central seat cushion and can be padlocked.
LCV versions of the New Citroën Berlingo feature the same modern and efficient technologies available with the Multispace. Figures for CO2 emissions are as follows:

  • BlueHDi 75 manual, from 110g/km of CO2
  • BlueHDi 100 manual, from 110g/km of CO2
  • BlueHDi 100 S&S manual, from 108g/km of CO2
  • BlueHDi 100 S&S ETG6, from 106g/km of CO2
  • BlueHDi 120 S&S 6-speed manual, from 112g/km of CO2
NOTE: Homologation pending

The range is completed by the electric version of the New Citroën Berlingo, which sets the standard in the field of electric vans. The New Citroën Berlingo has a range of 170km between charges. It also ships with a battery able to recharge automatically during deceleration and braking. With a power output of 67hp and virtually constant torque of 200Nm, it accelerates crisply to reaching a speed of 110kph to move easily into the traffic flow.
