The Jaguar XE has been named Best Large Car in the 2015 Diesel Car Magazine Awards, beating tough competition from the likes of the BMW 3 Series and Ford Mondeo. The judges praised the XE’s competitive pricing, beautiful looks, classy cabin, low CO₂ emissions and its sporty driving dynamics.

At the 30^th edition of the Festival Automobile International in Paris, the Jaguar XE was awarded ‘Most Beautiful Car of 2014’. Jaguar Director of Design Ian Callum collected the award in front of a crowd of 600 VIPs and more than 60 media.

The award is decided by a public vote, with more than 100,000 votes cast across 59 countries. Beating competition from the Mazda MX-5, Mercedes C-Class Estate and Fiat 500X, the Jaguar XE took victory with 28% of the votes.

From the morning of 28 January, the Festival Automobile International continues in Paris with a four-day exhibition at the Hotel des Invalides, where the Jaguar XE will be showcased alongside 18 concept cars, including Jaguar Project 7. More than 40,000 visitors are expected to attend.

This is the XE’s second French award since the Paris Motor Show in October 2014, where it was crowned ‘Best Production Car’ by Auto Plus magazine and the listeners of French radio station, RTL.

World-renowned actor and aspiring film maker Idris Elba has embarked on an epic 750 mile road trip in the new Jaguar XE, the most fuel efficient Jaguar ever produced.

Driving from London to Berlin in winter conditions, whilst documenting his journey through film, Idris will test the class-leading fuel economy credentials of Jaguar’s new sports saloon, while enjoying innovative in-car technology, cutting-edge driver aids and entertainment systems to help navigate his way across four countries.

Speaking about his XE road trip, Idris Elba commented: “My work takes me around the world, but I rarely have the time or luxury of getting behind the wheel for myself. I wanted to do this trip and record the experience through a series of short films. I have long been a fan of Jaguar’s incredible sporting heritage and have been truly impressed with how the brand has evolved over the past few years. It’s a real privilege to drive the new XE on this road trip across Europe.”

With two of its most important new models ever arriving in 2015, Jaguar Land Rover announces an enhanced global fleet and business sales strategy, which will maximise sales in established markets, exploit opportunities in emerging markets and play a critical role in helping Jaguar Land Rover achieve a significant increase in fleet sales by 2020.

At the heart of this enhanced approach are the Jaguar XE and Land Rover Discovery Sport – the most business-friendly models ever to be launched by Jaguar and Land Rover. Entering new segments in 2015, these two models will put Jaguar Land Rover onto more fleet and business choice lists than ever thanks to their dynamic design, class-leading technology and low ownership costs.

Together with this investment in product is an investment in Jaguar Land Rover’s global fleet and business presence. The global Jaguar Land Rover retailer network is intended to grow from 2,600 across 180 countries at present to over 3,300 by 2020, while specialist fleet and business centres will account for 20 to 25 per cent of total volume. Mirroring this will be a joint portfolio fleet and business sales approach, with corporate sales teams visiting clients as one collective brand, offering both Jaguar and Land Rover products. In line with this commitment Jaguar Land Rover aims to increase global fleet sales from 16 per cent to circa 25 per cent of total volume.

At the same time as improving the way it does face-to-face business, Jaguar Land Rover has invested in its digital marketing with a new international fleet and business website (http://www.fleet-business.jaguarlandrover.com) designed to channel customers in the most efficient manner possible. Jaguar Land Rover has also invested heavily in engaging with business customers on international networking social media site, LinkedIn.

This investment in retailers, corporate sales staff and digital infrastructure will see the proportion of global sales from fleet and business increase from 17 per cent to around 25 per cent by 2020, while the XE will be Jaguar Land Rover’s biggest global fleet and business seller.

Ken Forbes, Jaguar Land Rover global fleet and business sales director, commented:

“This is the biggest, most important global fleet and business strategy we have ever implemented. It is crucial in order for JLR to grow, as it will see us build on the incredible renaissance of the last six years, most of which has been focused on retail sales. The new Jaguar XE and Land Rover Discovery Sport further balance our product portfolio – and they will drive our global fleet and business sales across the world.

“We certainly won’t be applying a one-size-fits-all strategy to our markets, though. We will plant the best parts of our fleet sales business approach across markets. We have the expertise and the product to get it right.”

In the UK, the new Jaguar XE is expected to significantly increase Jaguar’s volume in a full twelve-month sales period. Some 45 per cent of XE sales will come from the fleet and business sector, which has resulted in significant investment in Jaguar Land Rover’s UK corporate sales structure. Now working across the Jaguar and Land Rover brands are four senior-level managers at head office, while the UK field-based sales team has grown from 16 to 22, implementing a new direct sales approach that will meet and exceed the needs of large fleets.

What’s more, the retailer network has also benefitted from significant investment with a new structure put in place that will serve the needs of SMEs and user choosers. Some 25 local fleet and business teams, selected based on their desire and opportunity to serve local businesses, have been appointed who will sell 80-100 cars locally. This dedicated retailer-based team will mean that small businesses and user choosers – who are often neglected by manufacturers – find they are treated in just the same way as retail customers.

The best-selling fleet and business model is set to be the XE 2.0d StopStart EU6 R-Sport Auto, anticipated to account for the majority of XE fleet and business sales. Not only will it offer business drivers the lowest total cost of ownership in the premium c-segment, it will retain an RV of 45 per cent after 3yrs/30,000 miles according to CAP. Jaguar Land Rover is committed to maintaining strong residual values for the long-term with very careful management of its fleet and business sales mix. Some 80 per cent of XE fleet sales will go to long-term business deals such as those with blue-chip companies and user-choosers.

Chris Newitt, Jaguar Land Rover UK sales director, explained:

“We will make sure that the short-term business for XE and Discovery Sport never goes above 20 per cent of the next year’s volume. We will not chase volume with our fleet and business sales. Jaguar Land Rover is about special products, cars that offer unique British essence giving customers something truly different.

“The contract hire and leasing market is now very wary indeed of premium manufacturers overpushing volumes and damaging RVs as a result. We are committed to exclusivity – and will bring stability as a result.”

Further peace of mind for fleets comes in the form of two fixed price service plans for the XE. For those who cover 10,000 miles a year, the plan will cost just £475, while for higher mileage drivers who cover 75,000 miles over five years, the plan will rise to just £675. Further attractions for fleet and business customers are satnav available as standard and an intuitive new InControl Infotainment system with an eight-inch touchscreen.

Both the XE and Land Rover Discovery Sport have been designed and developed with Jaguar Land Rover’s global fleet and business team involved from the start. When it goes on sale in January, the Discovery Sport will be the most efficient production Land Rover ever, with competitive residual values and outstanding versatility for fleets thanks to a seven-seater option. Later in 2015, it will be available in 2WD eD4 form with CO₂ emissions of 119g/km.

Jaguar prices XE above competition, I am sure the Germans are laughing at that.

The Jaguar XE’s likely best-selling model will be priced higher than its BMW rival in the brand's UK home market.

The XE 2.0-liter diesel sedan will start at 29,775 pounds (37,713 euros) in the UK, Jaguar said. The diesel will be targeted mainly at business fleet buyers.

The price is 1,000 pounds more than the BMW 320d Efficient Dynamics sedan, which has a similar power output at 163hp.

Despite its higher price, the diesel XE may attract buyers because of its lower CO2 emissions. The XE entry diesel with a manual gearbox has CO2 emissions of 99 grams per km, making it eligible for tax breaks that the UK government offers business and private drivers with cars below 100g/km. The BMW car has CO2 emissions of 109g/km.

The diesel XE also has lower CO2 emissions than the 104g/km of the Mercedes C-class C220 Bluetec SE. However the Mercedes is cheaper at 29,365 pounds. BMW and Mercedes will announce sub-100g/km diesel variants soon, according to media reports. The Audi A4, another big rival, is due for replacement soon.

The XE with a 200hp, 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and automatic transmission will start at 26,995 pounds. The range-topping 3.0-liter V-6 supercharged model will cost 44,870 pounds.

Both models will use Ford engines. The 2.0-liter gasoline will be replaced by a unit from Jaguar Land Rover’s new Ingenium engine range at a later date while Jaguar likely will continue to source the 3.0-liter V-6 from Ford.

Jaguar also will offer its Ingenium diesel in a higher tune of 180hp, as well as a higher powered four-cylinder gasoline engine making 240hp to give a total of five engine choices. By contrast, BMW offers six diesel and four gasoline choices, and a hybrid engine for the 3 series in the UK.

Jaguar has also said it will introduce a 2.0-liter twin-turbocharged diesel at a later date.

European sales of the XE will start early next year, followed by U.S. deliveries a year later.

The XE is Jaguar’s first contender in the premium midsize segment market since it axed the slow-selling X-Type in 2009.

The sedan is built on an all-new modular platform made with 75 percent aluminum that “will form the backbone of several future models,” according to Jaguar.

Jaguar wouldn’t say what those models will be, but the company has already revealed a concept of an SUV version that analysts expect to be built on the same architecture. A station wagon version is also likely in the near term.

JLR CEO Ralf Speth told journalists in September that the 168,000-unit annual capacity of the automaker's factory in Solihull, central England, which builds the XE, will not be reached until it is making three models from the new architecture.

IHS Automotive predicts that XE sales worldwide will peak at 63,700 in 2016, which means the sedan will almost double Jaguar's total global sales from the 76,668 figure it achieved in 2013.

With the new Ingenium diesel engines driving the rear wheels, the aluminium-intensive XE is the most fuel-efficient Jaguar yet, with CO₂ emissions from just 99g/km.The Ingenium range is produced at the new £500 million, 100,000m² Engine Manufacturing Centre in the West Midlands in the UK. Engines will come off the fully flexible lines at rates of up to one every 36 seconds.

Starting from a clean sheet meant that Jaguar’s powertrain engineers could make the Ingenium engines as light and efficient as possible, and deliver the blend of power, torque and smoothness customers expect. These state-of-the-art engines were proven over 2 million miles of real-world testing.

The low friction, all-aluminium units have stiff cylinder blocks and twin balancer shafts to ensure inherently low levels of vibration. Details such as the acoustic sump cover, decoupled injectors, and 0.5mm ovality on the injection pump drive sprocket contribute to the Ingenium’s exceptional quietness.

The new XE will feature two versions of the 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel. The first, rated at 163PS/380Nm, delivers benchmark efficiency figures of 75mpg and 99g/km CO₂ without any compromise to launch performance or mid-range acceleration. The 180PS/430Nm variant has one of the highest torque outputs in the class.

Ingenium diesels meet Euro 6 are as clean as they are efficient. Variable exhaust valve timing shortens the catalyst light-off phase and also improves diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration. The cooled low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system reduces combustion chamber temperatures, inhibiting NOx formation. Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology cuts NOx emissions to very low levels and the new XE has been engineered to meet the most stringent global regulations.

The Ingenium diesels will be joined at launch by powerful, efficient, direct-injection petrol engines: turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinders and the outstanding supercharged 3.0-litre V6.

The Jaguar XE has been revealed to the world during a star-studded event held at Earls Court, London.

A true driver’s car, the rear-drive Jaguar XE redefines the concept of the sports saloon thanks to its advanced lightweight construction, streamlined styling, luxurious interior, and outstanding ride and handling. The XE goes on sale in 2015, with the high-performance S model at the top of the range.

The XE S rewards drivers with the responsiveness and refinement of its supercharged 3.0-litre V6. Generating 340PS and 450Nm of torque, this high-revving engine is linked to an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shift controls, giving the driver immediate access to the vehicle’s incredible reserves of power. Accelerating to 0-60mph in just 4.9 seconds, the XE S has an electronically-limited maximum speed of 155mph.

The aluminium-intensive Jaguar XE is the first model developed from Jaguar Land Rover’s new modular vehicle architecture and will set the standard for driving dynamics in the midsize segment. The long wheelbase and low seating position enable perfect proportions and a streamlined, coupe-like profile.

The S model’s large front air intakes, chrome side vents, discreet rear spoiler and optional 20-inch forged alloy wheels hint at the performance potential of Jaguar’s supercharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine.

The cabin offers outstanding levels of comfort and spaciousness. Exquisite materials and finishes, combined with traditional Jaguar craftsmanship make this an interior like nothing else in the class.

The XE S will be joined by other models powered by highly efficient 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines matched to smooth-shifting six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic transmissions. The diesels – part of Jaguar’s all-new Ingenium engine family – provide exemplary fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions from 75mpg and 99g/km.

The XE is also the lightest, stiffest and most aerodynamic Jaguar saloon ever built. It is also the first Jaguar to be equipped with electric power steering, tuned to provide exceptional responsiveness and feel but with lower energy consumption than hydraulic systems. The XE boasts the lowest cost of ownership of any Jaguar and is also the most environmentally sustainable.

The aluminium-intensive Jaguar XE is manufactured at Jaguar Land Rover’s Solihull plant in an all-new purpose-built facility. Part of a £1.5bn investment, this highly flexible, state-of-the-art manufacturing site will create 1,700 UK jobs.

The XE now completes the Jaguar saloon car range sitting below the XF and XJ models.

Compelling design: Form and function without compromise

The Jaguar XE was developed in parallel with the new modular architecture. The architecture unlocks design possibilities that did not exist before because the core dimensions were determined by design and engineering working together from the very beginning, under a philosophy of ‘anything we can imagine, we can create.’

This makes it possible to realise perfect proportions: short front overhang, longer rear overhang and dynamic, cab-rearward stance. The architecture also enables the XE to feature both a low, sporty driving position and a sleek, coupe-like profile

The strongly-sculpted bonnet creates a taut, muscular appearance. The rising waistline adds to the sense of movement, while the form of the rear quarters takes inspiration from the F-TYPE Coupé. The signature J-Blade running lights are another instantly recognisable Jaguar design element. In the rear lights, a horizontal line intersecting a roundel is a powerful styling feature inherited from the iconic E-type.

Jaguar has a rich history of producing stunning, aerodynamically-efficient cars. The new XE continues the tradition of uncompromised form and function: its streamlined shape has the lowest drag coefficient of any Jaguar yet – just 0.26. This achievement is the result of 1,200 computational fluid dynamics simulations and more than eight million hours of processor time.

“Our mission was to create an exciting and dynamic design clearly reflecting the XE’s positioning as a serious driver’s car. The cab-rearward proportions and tight packaging achieve that and give the XE the appearance of movement even when it’s standing still. It bears a strong family resemblance to the F-TYPE and will stand apart in the crowd.”

Expectations created by the XE’s exterior styling are more than met once inside. The spacious cabin cocoons front seat passengers with a deep centre console which creates a cockpit-like feel. The F-TYPE-style dials and the cluster needle sweep on start-up further emphasise the XE’s sports saloon attributes.

Front and rear seat occupants enjoy generous amounts of head and legroom – the XE proves that sleek, streamlined styling and interior space need not be mutually exclusive. Technical fabrics, fine-grain leathers and details such as contrasting twin-needle stitching give the cabin a bespoke quality. The choice of gloss black, textured aluminium, and contemporary wood veneers enhance the luxurious, hand-crafted feel. Ambient lighting in a range of up to 10 colours adds to the sense of occasion.

Aluminium-intensive monocoque: Light, stiff, safe

Jaguar is more experienced in the use of aluminium construction than any other vehicle manufacturer. The unrivalled expertise in working with this lightweight material has culminated in the revolutionary body structure of the new XE. It is the first model designed around Jaguar’s all-new modular architecture and is the only car in the class to use an aluminium-intensive monocoque.

Much of the aluminium is high-strength, 6000-series alloy. The bodysides are a perfect example: these complex pressings are formed in one piece, and what would once have been 1.5mm gauge sheet has been reduced to just 1.1mm – with no loss of stiffness.

The new XE has been engineered to meet the most stringent legislative and consumer crash test requirements worldwide, including US and Euro NCAP. The deployable aluminium bonnet ensures high levels of pedestrian impact protection.

Sustainability is a big part of Jaguar’s aluminium story. Recycling this highly valuable material delivers impressive savings in overall CO₂ emissions and the new XE is the first car in the world to use RC 5754 – an aluminium alloy made predominantly from recycled material. Future models will also use RC 5754 and this breakthrough will help Jaguar towards its goal of using 75 per cent recycled material by 2020.

Chassis: Agile, responsive, supple

The new XE has the most sophisticated chassis of any vehicle in its class and will set the benchmarks for ride and handling: it is a true driver’s car. Where most competitors use MacPherson strut front suspension, Jaguar’s vehicle dynamics team insisted on the superior double wishbone configuration. The aluminium front knuckles are as light as they are stiff and are forged from cast blanks using a patented production process.

Conventional multilink rear suspension couldn’t deliver Jaguar’s dynamics targets. The solution was Integral Link: a system usually found only in larger, more expensive vehicles and which delivers the ideal lateral and longitudinal stiffness values needed for the XE’s precise handling and supple ride. Aluminium has been used extensively, minimising weight.

Electric power steering (EPAS) offers incredible tuning potential and greater energy efficiency than traditional hydraulic systems but Jaguar’s engineers have not considered the technology sufficiently mature – until now.

Prototype development using larger vehicles convinced the dynamics team that the best EPAS technology could now deliver the advantages of fuel consumption reduction without any loss of feedback through the steering wheel. The XE is the first Jaguar to use EPAS. As well as reducing CO₂ emissions by up to three per cent, the system offers the performance that Jaguar’s engineers demanded.

Active safety: Intelligent technologies to support the driver

The new XE’s light, stiff bodystructure has been engineered to meet the most demanding legislative and consumer crash test requirements worldwide. Complementing the outstanding levels of protection it offers is a suite of advanced driver assistance systems designed to help and support the driver, making every journey safer, more relaxing and even more enjoyable.

The XE is the first car in the world to be equipped with All Surface Progress Control (ASPC). This all-new system, developed with the input of decades of Jaguar Land Rover experience in off-road traction systems, works like a low-speed cruise control. ASPC functions between 3.6km/h and 30km/h: by precisely controlling the brake system and the powertrain it delivers optimum traction in the most slippery conditions without skidding and without the driver using the pedals.

Projecting high-contrast colour images onto the windscreen, the laser head-up display (HUD) technology provides the driver with information such as speed and navigation instructions with maximum clarity and minimum distraction. As well as superb image quality, the laser HUD is smaller and almost a third lighter than existing systems.

Jaguar is one of the first manufacturers in the segment to use stereo camera technology. This state-of-the-art sensor is the ‘eyes’ of the XE’s autonomous emergency braking system, providing highly accurate measurements of speed and distance of objects ahead, and can initiate full braking to avoid or mitigate a collision.

The stereo camera performs traffic sign recognition and lane departure warning functions too. The XE also offers systems such as adaptive cruise control, closing vehicle sensing, blind spot monitoring, semi-automated parallel and bay parking, and reverse traffic detection.

Better connected: All-new infotainment system

The XE’s all-new InControl infotainment system offers the latest technologies to connect car, driver and the outside world. At its heart is an eight-inch touchscreen featuring a clear, intuitive graphical interface and fast response times.

Voice control using plain speech gives access to any level of the system, without navigating through menus, so drivers can keep their eyes on the road. InControl’s SD card-based navigation allows easy upgrades of map data. The system also supports Bluetooth, audio streaming and USB connectivity.

Smartphones are changing the way people interact with the world around them so the new XE ensures that drivers always stay connected. The car functions as a Wi-Fi hotspot, enabling multiple devices to connect to the internet – the vehicle antenna provides the best possible signal.

Jaguar InControl Remote functionality allows users of iOS and Android smartphones to connect to the car from wherever they are and control a range of vehicle functions. These include seven-day timed pre-setting of the XE’s climate control system, locking or unlocking the doors, or starting the engine. Jaguar InControl Apps allows users to seamlessly access smartphone apps through the vehicle’s touchscreen.

For drivers who just want to sit back and enjoy the music, the new XE brings Meridian audio technology to the segment for the first time. These superb systems are the latest product of the long-standing partnership between Jaguar and British audio experts Meridian and were developed specifically for the new XE. Unique algorithms guarantee the best possible sound reproduction and tailor the experience to the interior’s acoustics.

Powertrains: Smooth, refined, efficient

The new XE is powered by a range of four- and six-cylinder all-aluminium petrol and diesel engines offering an impressive blend of performance, refinement and fuel efficiency with a breadth of capability.

For customers demanding ultimate performance and an exhilarating engine note from idle right up to the redline there’s the XE S, which shares its supercharged 3.0-litre V6 with the acclaimed F-TYPE.

Spray-guided direct injection and fully variable valve timing optimise power and torque throughout the rev range. The 90° cylinder bank angle provides space for the twin-vortex Roots-type supercharger, a balancer shaft ensures smooth running.

Developing 340PS/450Nm, the V6 provides the XE S with exceptional acceleration and performance: 0-60mph takes just 4.9 seconds, and top speed is electronically-limited to 155mph.

Jaguar is launching the XE with a new family of world-class engines – Ingenium. This advanced in-house modular design began from a clean sheet and is manufactured at Jaguar Land Rover’s new £500 million UK Engine Manufacturing Centre.

Proven over 2 million miles of real-world testing, Ingenium is the cornerstone of Jaguar’s future low-CO₂powertrain strategy and is engineered to deliver benchmark fuel efficiency, refinement and performance. It will also meet the most stringent exhaust emissions legislation worldwide.

The first Ingenium engines to come off the line are 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesels. Clean combustion, variable exhaust valve timing and sophisticated exhaust gas aftertreatment ensure Euro 6 compliance and take the XE’s CO₂ emissions as low as 99g/km in the case of the 163PS/380Nm variant. More powerful versions will be available too, combining exceptional fuel economy and even greater responsiveness.

The 2.0-litre turbocharged direct injection petrol engines are powerful and refined and generate strong torque from low speeds, ensuring excellent launch performance and mid-range response. Two ratings will be available in the XE, and both will be offered with a lighter version of the ZF 8HP automatic used in the rest of the Jaguar range: this benchmark eight-speed transmission is controlled using Jaguar’s unique rotary shift selector.

Ingenium diesels will also be available with a highly efficient six-speed manual – low viscosity oil and pseudo dry-sump lubrication cut parasitic losses. All of the XE’s transmissions are characterised by exceptionally smooth, quiet shifts.

An attractive business case: Sustainable, affordable

The new XE is not only the most fuel efficient Jaguar ever made, it’s also one of the most cost-efficient cars in its class. With CO₂ emissions as low as 99g/km, the XE attracts low levels of vehicle taxation in many countries – and is even exempt in others.

Jaguar Land Rover is on track to meet its 25 per cent reduction in fleet average tailpipe CO₂ emissions – and the new XE is an integral part of this strategy – but the focus on sustainability goes much further.

Riveting and bonding the XE’s lightweight bodystructure consumes less energy than traditional spot welding. And the use of recycled aluminium – in particular the new RC 5754 grade – reduces demand for primary aluminium, saving even more energy. The XE also contains 46kg of recycled plastics and renewable materials, reducing its environmental impact still further.

As well as exceptional fuel efficiency the XE’s Ingenium diesel engines also achieve a remarkable 21,000 miles or two years between services. From the very beginning, key components were designed to be easily accessible to minimise scheduled maintenance and repair costs. This helps the XE to be awarded highly competitive insurance group ratings.
