Purpose

I will try my best to provide detailed info on various cars and what is like to live with them, I have already produced a few for Jaguar-car-forums, I will do my best to be unbiased, but it will be hard for some cars. I will re-produce press releases and copy from other motoring news.

Aston Martin took part in the most recent soapbox race at Alexander Palace in London.

  • Special-edition V8 Vantage GTE to take on all-comers in Red Bull Soapbox Race
  • Aston Martin team to be judged on speed, creativity and showmanship as they try to repeat the on-track success of the Le Mans winning V8 Vantage GTE
Aston Martin Racing will reveal a very special-edition of the V8 Vantage GTE that won the 2017 24 Hours of Le Mans at this Sunday’s Red Bull Soapbox Race at Alexandra Palace in London.
The ’24 Seconds of Le Ally Pally’ will see a crack team of Aston Martin personnel, take on all-comers in a miniature version of the Le Mans winning V8 Vantage GTE.
David King, President of Aston Martin Racing said: “When taking on a challenge as big as this it is important to rally your troops and throw everything you’ve got at it.

Aston Martin has enjoyed great on-track success with the V8 Vantage GTE so it was the obvious choice for the design of our soapbox entry. I don’t think we’ll be putting our race drivers in it though as we need them to be in one piece for their next World Endurance Championship race the following week!”
Aston Martin has a successful Innovation Partnership with Red Bull Racing but there will be no favouritism on Sunday. It is a level playing field, so to speak, and the Aston Martin crew is ready for the fight having made meticulous preparations.
Over 104 years ago, early Aston Martin cars were designed for hill-climb racing so all that knowledge can now be turned on its head.  It’s not great news for those who love the sound of a V8 or V12 engine as the power source for this event much quieter…gravity! With design and engineering by Aston Martin and the build taking place at Aston Martin Works in Newport Pagnell, the Aston Martin challenger is already a favourite for the event.
Entrants are judged on speed, obviously, and creativity of design. They are also judged on showmanship and this is where Le Mans winners Darren Turner (GB) and Jonny Adam (GB) can help.  Well-known for their ability to put on a great show, the two racers will be on hand to support Alex Summers, Aston Martin Prototype Operations Senior Engineer who has (been) volunteered to race the mini-Vantage.
“Having watched the Red Bull Soapbox Race numerous times, it looks the most amazing event so I can’t wait to go and see it for real,” said Turner. “There is no way in the world I would get into one but I’m very happy to wave the brave pilot on his merry way.  I hope Alex manages to last for more than 24 seconds and, most importantly, makes it to the bottom in one piece!”

Ex-Rod Stewart Lamborghini Miura sells for £909,000 at Coys auction and Ex-Adam Clayton Maserati Ghibli sells for world-record price of £303,000

Ex-Rod Stewart Lamborghini Miura sells for £909,000 at Coys auction and Ex-Adam Clayton Maserati Ghibli sells for world-record price of £303,000
A 1971 Lamborghini Miura first owned by rock legend Sir Rod Stewart was sold at auction for £909,000 by international auctioneers Coys at their first Classic & Sports Car Show sale at London’s Alexandra Palace.
The Miura took centre stage on Saturday 29th October and became the most valuable car to sell at the auction. This P400S model had been the subject of a £100,000 restoration and upgrade to SV specification.
A 1972 Maserati Ghibli 4.9 SS, once owned by none other than U2 drummer Adam Clayton, set a new world-record for a Ghibli sold at auction when it went for £303,000.

This car was one of only eight right-hand drive examples.
Another headline lot sold was the first registered Range Rover, which went for £93,000. This 1970 Range Rover was the 26th model manufactured, it is believed to be the first car that Land Rover registered to themselves on 27th may 1970 and was one of the first of the batch of 20 press launch cars.
Other important lots sold included an original right hand drive 1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GT E Series, with coachwork by Scaglietti and design by Pininfarina, which went for £374,000 and a 1977 Ferrari 512 BB that featured at the 1977 London Motor Show, which went for £225,000.
Chris Routledge, CEO of Coys, said: “In combination with the very high quality features, displays and the amazing live parades on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, including original Grand Prix cars on the streets of London, the Coys auction was a very powerful addition to what was a dramatically improved Classic & Sports Car Show.
“The auction was exceptional and clearly shows that the historic motor car market is strong and alive with a world-record price for a Maserati Ghibli, a fabulous result for a 246 Dino and a very encouraging price achieved for the Rod Stewart Miura.”

A 1971 Lamborghini Miura P400 S delivered new to Maggie May singer Stewart, who was knighted just this month, carries an estimate of between £800-900,000 at the show’s inaugural auction, which takes place at 3pm on Saturday 29th October in the Panorama Room at Alexandra Palace.
The musical theme continues with the offering of a 1972 Maserati Ghibli 4.9SS formerly owned by U2 bassist Clayton. One of only eight right-hand drive versions of this model, it is expected to fetch between £240-280,000.
More than 60 consignments will be offered by Coys at the sale, with viewings beginning at 10am on Friday 28thOctober after the show is opened by legendary Jaguar test driver Norman Dewis OBE.
Other highlights of the sale include a 1953 Jaguar XK120 Drophead Coupe carrying an estimate of £70-80,000; a RHD 1974 Ferrari 246 GT E Series with coachwork by Scaglietti (£280-325,000); a 1964 Aston Martin DB5 with one owner from new (£525-625,000); two Ferrari 512 BBs, including the 1977 London Motor Show car (£225-275,000); and a veteran campaigner in club and historic motor racing, a Marcos 1800 GT which among its many accolades collected the 1981 and ’84 HSCC Classic and Sportscar titles in the hands of Roger Ealand.
James Elliott, Group Editor, Classic & Sports Car magazine, said: “The addition of a classic car auction to the second annual Classic & Sports Car Show is an exciting development. Coys have gathered a wonderfully eclectic selection of classics for the sale and we’ll all be glued to the Panorama Room on the afternoon of Saturday 29th October to see what prices cars such as the ex-Rod Stewart Lamborghini reach.
“It’s fitting that both a Miura and a Jaguar XK120 are among the consignments, given that these great models are among the 10 finalists for our ‘Century of Supercars’ central theme. The auction will surely tempt visitors with garage space to fill back home.”
Chris Routledge, CEO, Coys, said: “We are delighted to be hosting the first auction at The Classic & Sports Car Show and we’re proud of the variety we will present for sale at Alexandra Palace. It promises to be quite an occasion.”
Admission to the auction is by catalogue only (admits two). The sale and the supercar theme will be just two of many stand-out displays at the event that will feature more than 300 classic cars from world-famous collections and specialist retailers.

They will be joined by John Fitzpatrick, Simon Taylor, Steve Soper, Alain de Cadenet and Nick Padmore, with many more names to be announced.

This year The Classic & Sports Car Show will honour the Jaguar Le Mans hero that never was - the incredible XJ13 - and the man forever associated with it, Norman Dewis OBE.

On entry to this year’s event, visitors will be greeted in the Palm Court area by this iconic prototype, which this year celebrates its 50th anniversary.

A true one-off, the XJ13 was developed by Jaguar in the 1960s. Its power came from a mid-mounted 5.0-litre V12 engine, positioned just behind the driver, and it was paired with a five-speed manual transaxle.
The body was designed by Malcolm Sayer, the aerodynamicist behind the C-type, D-type and E-type and legendary drivers like David Hobbs and Richard Atwood, in addition to Norman Dewis OBE, all helped with the car’s development.
But despite the hopes that the car would take Jaguar back to its 1950s Le Mans racing glory, the XJ13 never made it to the track. Its development was never a top priority, and was deemed less important than the creation of a new saloon car, which was to ultimately become the XJ6.
Dewis, who will open the show on Friday, not only helped develop the prototype, but was also tasked with driving it for the launch of the Series 3 E-type in 1971. During filming for a promotional video, the chief test driver for Jaguar lost control when a rear wheel broke. The resulting crash almost destroyed the car, though thankfully left Dewis uninjured.
Rebuilt some years later to an identical specification, it has been on display at the British Motor Museum at Gaydon ever since. Visitors will be able to hear all about the XJ13 when Norman Dewis OBE takes to the Live Interview Stage presented by Goodwood Road & Racing.
James Elliott, group editor, Classic & Sports Car magazine, said: “We are privileged to have both this iconic prototype and Dewis himself at the show. It will be a fascinating opportunity for visitors to see the XJ13 in the metal and hear all about this piece of motoring history from someone who has such a close relationship with it.”
The Classic & Sports Car Show will feature more than 300 of the world’s most prestigious and well-loved classic cars with displays from some of the best dealers in the business including DD Classics, Desmond J Smail, Classic Chrome, Stanley Mann and many more.
Another highlight will be a feature showing the restoration of a unique Jaguar XK120 by Pininfarinaby Classic Motor Cars (CMC) in association with Total.
Live parades will run twice daily in the grounds of the venue, while an auction of classic cars run by Coys will be another show first. The centrepiece display will feature a Century of Supercars, with the most popular set to be revealed from 11 finalists following a global public vote. The poll is still open, so car enthusiasts who want to have their say on which car deserves to win should log on to www.classicandsportscarshow.com/supercars
Visitors can also enjoy a selection of premium food and wine while looking out on the spectacular show displays in the Fine Dining Restaurant, situated under the iconic Grand Willis Organ.
The show’s website also features a range of ticket packages, from general access to a limited number of premium tickets offering everything from fine dining to guided tours of the event.

The shortlist for The Classic & Sports Car Show’s ‘A Century of Supercars’ global poll has been confirmed, with 33 of the world’s fastest and most pioneering speed machines whittled down to 11 thanks to over 17,000 votes by members of the public.
Supercar enthusiasts have been flocking online since June to vote for their favourite cars from 11 different eras, ranging from pre-1914 models all the way to modern machines built after 2010.

And now the public must decide which of the 11 cars will be crowned the greatest supercar ever at The Classic & Sports Car Show, held at Alexandra Palace from 28th-30th October.
Some truly iconic names make up the shortlist, including the Ferrari F40, McLaren F1 and Alfa Romeo 8C. Here are the contenders looking to be crowned at Alexandra Palace:

The McLaren F1 had no such trouble in its 1990s showdown with the Jaguar XJ220 and Bugatti EB110, though, with 80 per cent of voters putting it through.
