FRANKFURT - DS Automobiles to showcase three New cars at the show, Two for the road, one for the track.

All eyes will be on DS Automobiles at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week when the brand unveils three new models for the first time: New DS 4 & DS 4 Crossback, the DSV-01 Formula E racing car & a noteworthy surprise that will be revealed at 3.00pm on Tuesday 15 September during the DS press conference.

In a setting that will showcase elegance, French expertise, technology and the avant-garde spirit, the DS Automobiles stand will be a must-see at the 66th International Motor Show in Frankfurt.

The DS brand has chosen this event for the world premiere of New DS 4 and New DS 4 Crossback, the DSV-01 full electric Formula E racing car and a show car that will be unveiled at 3.00pm on Tuesday 15 September during the DS press conference.

NEW DS 4 & DS 4 CROSSBACK: ONE MODEL, TWO BODY STYLES

The only car of its kind when it was launched in 2011, the original DS 4 was given the prestigious titles of ‘Most Beautiful Car of the Year’ and ‘Most Beautiful Interior’ at the International Automobile Festival.

Now, DS 4 is gaining new impetus with the arrival of two distinct, yet complementary versions: New DS 4 is a dynamic and refined premium hatchback, and New DS 4 Crossback is a stylish adventurer with ‘go-anywhere’ looks and a 30mm higher ride height, large black wheels and specific body components including black wheel arch trims and grey roof bars.

New DS 4 and DS 4 Crossback perfectly embody the character of DS vehicles, with:
  • A new front end featuring the brand’s signature ‘DS Wings’ grille (directly inspired by the Numéro 9 concept car) and new DS LED Vision headlamps.
  • New DS 4 gaining the latest technology, including CarPlay® compatibility with the most recent Apple iPhones.
  • High-performance engines of up to 210hp with low CO2 emissions.
  • Refined interior design, including the Nappa leather upholstery and the option of ‘watch strap’ semi aniline leather seats, which is exclusive to the DS brand.
With New DS 4 and DS 4 Crossback, the DS brand is going on the offensive in the compact premium segment.

New DS 4: now with customised features, new styling & enhanced performance

With its flowing lines, touches of chrome and high-performance engines, New DS 4 has all the qualities of a premium hatchback.

Personalisation and greater customer choice is provided by the two-tone roof/body colour option, which is new to this segment. With its luxurious, refined and even more customisable interior, New DS 4 represents a unique offering in the premium compact segment.

New DS 4 features a unique body design.

With its new, more powerful stance, this latest version meets all the expectations of a premium hatchback, complete with the promise of performance for the driver.

A key characteristic of today’s DS models is customisation. Initiated on DS 3 in 2010, New DS 4 introduces a two-tone offering with a choice of four colours for the roof and rear spoiler, the door mirrors and wheel centre caps.

The optional Perla Nera Black, Whisper Purple, Virtual Blue or Tourmaline Orange finishes on the roof mean that up to 38 colour combinations are possible. There are nine body colours, including three new colours: Tourmaline Orange, Artense Grey and Platinum Grey. This new ‘bi-tone’ option is unique in the premium compact segment and allows customers to adapt their car to their personality and lifestyle.

New DS 4 Crossback: versatile, expressive & adventurous by nature

New DS 4 Crossback is aimed at customers looking for 'urban and extra-urban adventure’. Versatile in concept and design, this new vehicle displays strong styling features including black wheel arch trims, a differentiated front end and rear spoiler also finished in black, and grey roof bars. Its status is further underlined by its black door mirrors, door sills and carpet mats and a ride height that is 30mm higher than the hatchback version. This car offers an alternative to conventional hatchbacks in this segment.

With New DS 4 & DS 4 Crossback, DS takes a huge leap forward in connectivity

New DS 4 gains a major new feature as the first DS, and the first vehicle in the PSA Group, to offer CarPlay® compatibility with the most recent Apple iPhones.

With its new 7-inch colour touch screen and latest innovations from the PSA Group in the field of MMIs (man-machine interfaces), New DS 4 delivers a high-tech driving experience. This new-generation screen provides easy access to all vehicle functions, from navigation to music, and has the added benefit of requiring 12 fewer buttons on the centre console. It is also designed to include new Mirror Screen technology, a function that duplicates Android or iOS smartphone content to the in-car screen.

The high-tech approach reflected in these new connected services (Mirror Screen and Carplay®) is also visible in other functions available on New DS 4. A reversing camera and keyless entry and start are now available, alongside blind spot monitoring for greater convenience and safety.

DS VIRGIN RACING

The International Motor Show in Frankfurt will be the setting for the first official viewing of the DSV-01, the Formula E car of the DS Virgin Racing team. The car will then set off to compete in the upcoming Formula E World Championship, starting in Beijing on 17 October, 2015.

A fully electric single-seater, the DSV-01 was born out of the partnership between Virgin Racing, which has already participated in the Formula E World Championship, and the DS brand. The automaker founded DS Performance, its motor sport division led by Yves Matton, for this very purpose.

The DS Performance engineers have developed the electric motor and gearbox for the DSV-01. They also designed its cooling system, rear suspension and transmission. The engine management system was designed in partnership with Magneti Marelli. Much more than just an R&D laboratory, DS Performance showcases the technological expertise and avant-garde spirit of DS.

DS Performance will support DS Virgin Racing throughout the upcoming Formula E season, enabling Sam Bird and Jean-Eric Vergne to maximise the performance of the race cars.

THE SYMBOL OF THE DS AUTOMOBILES BRAND

Alongside New DS 5’s additional features, such as the sculpted, vertical grille with the DS monogramme in the centre, DS LED Vision headlights, a new 7-inch touchscreen and a new range of efficient Euro 6 engines, New DS 5 maintains all the qualities it is already renowned for.

These qualities include exterior lines that defy convention, an exceptional interior and exterior design with refinement in every detail, and the model’s characteristic 'cockpit' driving position.

From Europe to China, DS 5 has already made an impression on the motoring public. New DS 5 is setting its sights even higher with a new front end, styling that remains avant-garde, attention to detail throughout, driving behaviour worthy of a DS and advanced technology in both design and function.

"The New DS 5 is more than just a new car. It is the car introducing our brand identity. Sixty years on from the original DS, New DS 5 carries all the genes of DS. Above all, it is a clear statement of our ambition: to revive the tradition of French premium vehicles." -  Yves Bonnefont, CEO, DS Automobiles.

A NEW FACE FOR A NEW BRAND

“Referred to as a concept car for the road, the DS 5 is a unique creation with expressive, hypnotic styling. For New DS 5 we wanted to maintain the strong points that are a key part of its identity, while giving further emphasis to DS styling cues.  The most symbolic example of course is the front end.” - Thierry Metroz, Head of Styling, DS Automobiles.

The front end is a key feature on all premium vehicles. With New DS 5 the car’s face gains even more character and prestige. The vertical grille proudly incorporates the ‘DS Wings’ signature, which extends as two shafts of light into the new headlamp design.

Like DS 3, New DS 5 features the brand's new light signature, with headlights combining LED and Xenon technologies, along with scrolling indicators.

Designed to resemble jewels, these headlights are a key feature of the car’s front end. Meeting high standards in lighting quality, they also illustrate the refinement and attention to detail of New DS 5. Launched on DS 3 last July, this headlamp design will ultimately feature on all DS models.

AVANT-GARDE DESIGN

The new face goes hand-in-hand with the vehicle's avant-garde styling. Whether viewed from the front, side or rear, New DS 5 is immediately recognisable.

From the side, the key styling feature is the slender, chrome sabre running from the tip of the headlamp to the front window. The rear view further underlines the status of the car, with its wide track, striking rear light signature and twin tailpipes integrated within the rear bumper.

A HIGH-TECH PRODUCT

“Right from the start, the DS 5 expressed a new take on the premium segment.  A vehicle that is different to the rest, one that can't be placed in any category.  For me, it's a mix of refinement and technology. Two key words that take on their full meaning with New DS 5 because the upgrades are in the details of the car, as is frequently the case with premium brands.” - Eric Apode, Vice President, Products & Business Development, DS Automobiles.

A 'cockpit' driving position

The interior of New DS 5 brings to mind the world of aerospace design. The most symbolic feature is the cockpit roof. With its three separate glass areas, the roof creates a unique ambience that can be tailored to individual requirements, day or night. The driving position was designed around the driver.

The main controls are grouped on two centrally positioned consoles, one at a low level near the gear selector and one overhead. Both incorporate specially designed buttons, dials and toggle switches that were inspired by the aerospace industry.

A new touchscreen, simplified ergonomic design & new connected services

New DS 5 continues the high-tech driving experience with its colour touchscreen. This new system provides easy access to all in-car functions, from navigation to music. It also simplifies the interior layout, with 12 fewer buttons on the dashboard and facia.

This latest-generation screen also includes new Mirror Screen technology. This function lets users copy smartphone content onto the screen and ensures all relevant apps can be used safely when driving.

For peace-of-mind and a relaxed drive, New DS 5 is also available with the 'DS Connect Box', which includes the brand’s 'SOS & Assistance’ system. This trailblazing technology enables localised emergency and assistance calls, to summon help if ever it is needed. Today, more than 230,000 DS vehicles on the road in Europe are equipped with this system.

Later in the year, New DS 5 will also introduce 'MyDS', an iOS/Android compatible mobile app. This provides added value for the driver with a range of intuitive, innovative services. Customers can receive a full range of vehicle-related information and special offers reserved for DS customers.

A wealth of equipment combining safety & comfort

New DS 5 features a range of advanced equipment. For example, a blind spot monitoring system joins a range of existing equipment including; a lane departure warning function, automatic high beam control, turning headlights that work with the static cornering lighting to optimise illumination, hill-start assist, stability control, intelligent traction control, a reversing camera and a head-up display. New DS 5 now features no fewer than ten safety systems overall.

New DS 5 also sets high standards in terms of comfort, with electric memory and massaging front seats, keyless entry & start, heated door mirrors, an electrochrome interior mirror, ambient lighting, dual-zone automatic air conditioning and a Denon Hi-Fi system.

Therefore, New DS 5 meets the highest standards of safety and comfort for both driver and passengers.

Increasingly efficient engines

New DS 5 is powered by the latest engines from the PSA Group. All the engines available with New DS 5 combine power (between 120 and 200hp) with respect for the environment (between 70.6mpg and 64.2mpg for the diesel models).

The New DS 5 Hybrid 4x4 200, in particular, achieves 103g/km of CO2 and can deliver over 70mpg on a combined cycle, figures that are comparable with the best in the premium segment. From launch, customers will be able to choose between five smooth and dynamic Euro 6 engine and gearbox combinations, with torque of between 240 and 400Nm.

New DS 5 gains the latest-generation BlueHDi diesel engines.

BlueHDi combines advanced performance with low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. This result is achieved by enhancements including improved internal efficiency, a new diamond-like carbon coating with increased reliability and by implementing an innovative and efficient exhaust system.

The innovative and unique character of the exhaust line on these engines lies in its specific layout. The SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) module is positioned upstream of the particulate filter. This is the only after-treatment system able to reduce NOx emissions by up to 90% as well as reducing CO2 emissions by up to 4%.
  • BlueHDi 120 S&S 6-speed manual
Combining the latest 6-speed manual gearbox with BlueHDi technology, this engine naturally meets high standards of performance in terms of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, as well as torque. With this engine, the figures speak for themselves: up to 70.6mpg, 104g/km of CO2 and torque of 300Nm. With these results, New DS 5 sets the standard with respect to the competition.
  • BlueHDi 150 S&S 6-speed manual
Another New DS 5 engine, setting the standard in terms of torque, fuel consumption and emissions is the BlueHDi 150. This 2-litre HDi 150 engine can return 68.9mpg, with CO2 emissions of 105g/km. That is an improvement of 23g/km compared with the Euro 5 HDi 160. At the same time, maximum torque is higher than the HDi 160 at 370Nm from 2,000rpm.
  • BlueHDi 180 S&S EAT6 auto
The BlueHDi 180 engine delivers exceptional driveability with a power output of 133kW and maximum torque of 400Nm at 2,000rpm. The addition of a variable-geometry turbocharger, along with higher turbo and combustion pressure, boosts the power of the New DS 5 BlueHDi 180 by 20hp compared with the previous generation powerplant. This new engine is equipped with balance shafts to deliver the acoustic and vibration comfort expected here at the top end of the range. The New DS 5 BlueHDi 180 S&S EAT6 auto also delivers CO2 emissions and fuel consumption that are, as a minimum, on par with the best in this class (114g/km of CO2 and up to 64.2mpg on a combined cycle).
  • Hybrid 4x4 200
DS 5 was the first vehicle to feature diesel hybrid technology and New DS 5 will continue to be available with this drivetrain. This version combines the performance of an HDi diesel engine with the benefits of an electric motor. The Hybrid 4x4 delivers powerful driving sensations, including 200hp, four-wheel drive, electric urban drive and an accelerator boost function. CO2 emissions are 103g/km and fuel economy can be over 70mpg on a combined cycle, potentially rising to almost 90mpg in the city. The Hybrid 4x4 models features a choice of four modes. The driver can select the mode required using the dial on the central console: Auto, Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV), four-wheel drive (front wheels powered by the combustion engine and rear wheels powered by the electric motor) and Sport (maximum use of the electric motor in parallel with the combustion engine).
REFINEMENT & ATTENTION TO DETAIL

The watchwords for DS Automobiles are refinement and attention to detail, both on the outside and the inside of the car. A true flagship vehicle, New DS 5 reflects the best of the brand’s expertise and considerable thought has gone into every detail.

This can be seen, for example, in the DS monogramme on the headlights, which helps to make the front end a unique creation.

Continuous attention to detail is also reflected in the use of authentic materials, such as the use of aluminium on the inside of the doors, metalwork on the gear knob and the best quality leather in the cabin. These materials are always used in a unique and exclusive way, as illustrated by the 'watch strap' design of the leather seats.

New DS 5 is one of only a few cars to offer a choice of three types of leather, including semi-aniline leather, which is one of the world's finest and rarely used in the automotive industry. One DS 5 in every five sold, features ‘watch strap’ upholstery in semi-aniline leather.

New DS 5 also features a new Nappa leather interior trim. The latest personalised interior ambience is now available with 'watch strap’ upholstery in two-tone Black and Deep Blue, along with a new DS monogramme trim on the doors and central console. A new body colour will also be available from launch – Ink Blue. The subtle shade further underlines the vehicle's identity and elegant looks.

DYNAMIC, RELAXED HANDLING

On the road, New DS 5 delivers a dynamic, but relaxed drive. The running gear has been upgraded since the model was first launched for improved comfort.

The shock absorbers gain PLV (Pre-loaded Linear Valve) technology. This technology limits sudden changes in damping force, in order to produce a more linear damping curve. At the same time, the compression stroke is longer.

As a result, New DS 5 soaks up bumps and dips in the road more effectively. Vibration comfort is also significantly improved by the reduction in impact noise.
