The all-new 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty is the toughest, smartest, most capable and most productive Super Duty ever – an essential tool for work. Just one way in which it can accomplish this is through the addition of a massive 48-gallon fuel tank – the largest in its class – which aims to maximize time between fill-ups to allow for more time getting the job done.

Thanks to the all-new long-box Crew Cab’s longer wheelbase and wider track, the new tank fits between frame and driveshaft. It is 22 percent larger than the 2016 diesel-equipped Super Duty’s 37.5-gallon tank and 37 percent larger than the 2016 gas engine’s 35-gallon tank. Along with improved fuel economy enabled by light-weighting through the use of high-strength, military-grade aluminum alloy, the all-new Super Duty’s range increases significantly.

Adding to that range is a larger-capacity diesel exhaust fluid tank for Power Stroke^®-equipped Super Duty – up 2.5 gallons from the 2016 truck to 7.5 gallons for 2017. An improved fuel filter and water separator filter allow for longer change intervals to minimize time and money spent on maintenance, allowing Super Duty more time on the road getting the job done.

“We want to give our customers a more productive tool for getting the most out of their trucks,” said Brian Rathsburg, Super Duty marketing manager. “This means less downtime at the fuel pump and performing routine maintenance, and more time on the job.”

The all-new Super Duty is available fall 2016.

USA - The Transit from Ford, America's #1 Van, now gets the motorhome treatment, in a way the Americans know how.

Recreational vehicle manufacturers are offering all-new motorhome models based on Ford Transit – America’s best-selling commercial van.

The newest Transit RV is the Winnebago Fuse, a Class C motorhome built on the new Ford Transit cutaway chassis. It is the latest in a growing number of Transit-based options for active families.

“Many of these customers are interested in outdoor adventures like kayaking, mountain biking, snowboarding and such — more national park than RV park,” explains Yaro Hetman, Ford brand manager for Transit, Transit Connect and E-Series. “Sales of smaller Class C motorhomes have been on the rise for the last few years as younger, more active buyers enter the market.”

Class C motorhomes include vehicle frame, suspension, powertrain and cab, with the living area accessible behind the driver’s compartment. The all-new Ford Transit cutaway offers customers additional options for lighter-weight chassis in Class C motorhomes – a segment where Ford is already a popular choice. Ford E-Series cutaway is the top-selling chassis in this market.

“Outdoor adventure-seeking RV customers want compact, maneuverable motorhomes that can comfortably carry their families and gear from one adventure to another,” Hetman says. “Transit’s efficiency, comfortable ride and affordability make it a great choice as a motorhome for these outdoor enthusiasts.”

Winnebago Fuse goes on sale in January, offered in two configurations – one with a rear bedroom slide-out featuring a queen-size bed, and another with a front slide-out, two twin beds and a rear bath. Each is available with the Ford Power Stroke^® 3.2-liter five-cylinder diesel.

Other manufacturers building motorhomes on the new Transit platform include Thor Motor Coach and Coachmen RV, a division of Forest River, Inc.

Transit also gives customers additional choices for Class B motorhomes.

Commonly called camper vans, Class B motorhomes are built using OEM vans or panel trucks. Class B motorhomes drive like vans, and retail for between $60,000 and $130,000, according to the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association.

Transit’s choice of three roof heights, two wheelbases and three powertrains gives customers the ability to customize their camper van cost-effectively, as choosing the high-roof Transit model eliminates the need to raise the roof or drop the floor of a traditional van.

Ford, America’s truck leader, celebrates production of the 5-millionth Ford F-Series Super Duty next month.

For 15 years, Ford F-Series Super Duty pickup trucks and chassis cabs – from F-250 to F-550 – have rolled off the assembly line at Kentucky Truck Plant and into the hands of hardworking customers.

“Super Duty trucks are engineered to meet the needs of the toughest customers,” said Doug Scott, Ford Truck group marketing manager. “Their continued sales dominance with these demanding customers proves how hard they deliver.”   

Power and efficiency

Truck customers demand maximum horsepower and torque to get the work done, but it’s also important the powertrain be as efficient as possible to help keep operating costs low.

In 1999, the largest gasoline engine in the original Super Duty – the Triton 6.8-liter V10 – produced 275 horsepower and 410 lb.-ft. of torque, while the 7.3-liter diesel engine produced 235 horsepower and 500 lb.-ft. of torque.

Today, Super Duty’s 6.2-liter gasoline V8 delivers 385 horsepower and 405 lb.-ft. of torque, and the 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel supplies 440 horsepower and 860 lb.-ft. of torque. Both engines are more fuel-efficient than the 1999 powertrains.

Both of today’s engines deliver power through the efficient TorqShift^® six-speed SelectShift^® Automatic transmission, while the transmission offerings in the 1999 Super Duty trucks were a four-speed automatic and six-speed manual – the latter available only with the diesel.

Today’s TorqShift transmission offers live drive power takeoff, or PTO, to power auxiliary equipment such as snowplows, aerial lifts, tow truck lifts, cement mixers and dump trucks.

Super Duty trucks are known for their capability. For the 1999 F-350 Super Duty pickup, the maximum tow capacity rating was 14,600 pounds. Now, the 2015 F-450 Super Duty pickup leads the way with a best-in-class standard tow rating of 31,200 pounds, based on the Society of Automotive Engineers J2807 standard. That’s 1,200 pounds more than the nearest competing crew cab 4x4 heavy-duty pickup.

With its new tow rating, the 2015 F-450 ups its already best-in-class gross combined weight rating from 40,000 pounds to 40,400 pounds – beating its nearest competitor by 2,500 pounds.
