USA - Chevy showcases a new engine by fitting it to a stunning classic 1970 Camaro.

Contemporized muscle car highlights new Corvette Z06-based crate engine
Chevrolet Performance is showing off the new LT4 crate engine in the most attractive way possible – under the hood of a classic 1970 Camaro RS. The concept vehicle was introduced today at the SEMA Show, in Las Vegas.

As the supercharged 6.2L heart of the Corvette Z06, the LT4 is rated at 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful production-vehicle engine ever from General Motors. The new crate engine – offered in dry-sump and wet-sump versions – allows builders to use the high-tech performance engine in their hot rod projects.
This Camaro concept uses the wet-sump kit, along with complementing air conditioning and front-end accessory drive kits.
“Chevrolet Performance pioneered the concept of high-performance crate engines and the LT4 represents a new threshold in technologically advanced, production-based choices for builders,” said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet U.S. vice president of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “Whether it’s in a classic Camaro, like this resto-mod concept, or a vintage truck or street rod, the possibilities are almost endless – and that’s exactly how we continue to fuel the dreams of enthusiasts.”
In addition to the LT4 crate engine, the Camaro features a T-56 Super Magnum six-speed manual transmission.
To harness the power of the supercharged powertrain, the concept’s chassis and suspension systems have been upgraded with an independent front suspension with coil-overs and a rack-and-pinion steering system, as well as a four-link rear suspension, also with coil-overs. It rides on a set of 19-inch polished aluminum wheels and stops with the assistance of Corvette Z06-based front and rear disc brake kits developed as upgrades for the Stingray.
A blend of design cues inspired by the all-new 2016 Camaro complements the contemporary powertrain that drives the vintage muscle car, starting with the Hyper Blue Metallic exterior color. It’s one of the available colors on the Gen Six Camaro and it’s accented with white rally stripes – just like the 2016 Camaro Hyper concept on display at the SEMA Show.
The exterior also features LED headlamps and taillamps, as additional nods to 21st century technology.
Inside, the black, stock-appearing cabin features custom-trimmed seats from a third-generation Camaro and a custom instrument cluster with new gauges that work with the powertrain’s electronic systems. The instrument panel itself is wrapped in custom-trimmed leather. There’s also a six-point roll cage for added protection.
About the LT4 crate engine
The LT4 is based on the same Gen V small block architecture as the LT1 engine used in the Corvette Stingray and 2016 Camaro SS, with several unique features designed to support its higher output and the greater cylinder pressures created by forced induction. They include Rotacast A356T6 aluminum cylinder heads that are stronger and handle heat better than conventional castings, lightweight titanium intake valves and stronger forged aluminum pistons.
Chevrolet Performance offers the LT4 with wet-sump (part number 19332702) or dry-sump (part number 19332702) oiling packages. Front-end accessory drive systems are offered for both applications, along with an air conditioning kit and a power-steering kit (wet sump only).
An engine controller –part number 19331517 – is available for manual transmission applications. A custom control system must be used for automatic applications.
The 1970 Camaro LT4 concept vehicle is one of more than 20 additional concept and production vehicles at the SEMA Show designed to showcase Chevrolet’s growing range of vehicle accessories, performance parts, crate engines and transmissions.

USA - Callaway announces it's third generation supercharger fitted to the Z06 Corvette, and wow, can it shift.

  • 757 bhp / 777 lb-ft
  • Z06-based Corvette upgrade boasts 32% larger supercharger, triple intercoolers, and consistent power - lap after lap

The Numbers - Callaway Cars today announced power numbers and performance for the flagship model in their performance car lineup. Equipped with Callaway’s GenThree Supercharger, the Corvette Z06 now produces 757 bhp @ 6,200 rpm and 777 lb-ft @ 4,500 rpm (SAE). A launch to 60 mph is now achieved in 2.8 seconds, and a quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds at 131 mph.

Why Go Big, When You Can Go Bigger? - Size Matters. To reach that power (which is up from 650 bhp / 650 lb-ft) the supercharger itself needed to be bigger since the output of a positive displacement supercharger is proportionate to its size. The Callaway GenThree supercharger is 32% larger in displacement (2300cc vs 1740cc).
Cooling - Callaway engineers recognize that a key contributor to maximizing power is reduction of inlet air temperature associated with forced induction. Callaway’s unique triple-element intercooler configuration provides significantly lower and well-managed inlet charge air temperatures than single or smaller dual-element designs. The supercharger housing extends through the hood, thereby exposing it to outside ambient airflow and adding an element of convective cooling. The supercharger is visible without opening the hood, and heat is inherently extracted from the engine compartment.
Bold Packaging - The supercharger assembly is no longer cramped below the hood line. The completely redesigned manifold helps maintain consistent charge air temperatures with exceptionally low restriction and even airflow distribution to all cylinders, which results in a broad torque band producing over 500 lb-ft from 2,000 to 6,400 rpm. This translates to more consistent power delivery in severe-duty driving environments, a compromise typically observed with “underhood” approaches. A 10-rib drive pulley system was also integrated to prevent belt-slippage.
Patents - The technical features of the Callaway GenThree supercharger are significant enough that utility and design aspects of the system have been awarded patent pending status through the US Patent and Trademark Office.
Competence - 35 years of experience, compliance and warranty. All Callaway cars are assembled to precise engineering specifications by expert technicians at Callaway facilities, exclusively. Callaway provides the most comprehensive standard warranty among all specialty manufacturers. All Callaway cars are also fully emission-compliant. Additionally, there is an optional 5 year/60,000 mile Extended Powertrain Service Contract on all 2016 models.

USA - First Corvette Z06 models being shiopped to dealers, ready for first customer collections.

Most capable model in Chevrolet's history now shipping from Bowling Green

Chevrolet is now shipping the all-new 2015 Corvette Z06 coupe from Bowling Green Assembly and some early customers could receive the much-anticipated supercar later this week.
“It has been an incredible opportunity to work on Chevy’s most capable model,” said Jeff Lamarche, plant manager of General Motors’ Bowling Green Assembly plant, “It truly is an amazing car, and we’re thrilled to get them into the hands of our eager customers.”

The new Corvette Z06 offers the most choice for customers in the model’s history. It is the first Z06 to offer an available eight-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission and, thanks to a stronger aluminum frame, a removable roof panel. In addition, it is the first time since 1963 that the Z06 is available as a convertible – which will arrive in early 2015.

The new LT4 supercharged 6.2L V-8 engine is SAE-certified at 650 horsepower (485 kW) at 6,400 rpm and 650 lb-ft of torque (881 Nm) at 3,600 rpm – making the 2015 Corvette Z06 the most powerful production car ever from General Motors and one of the most powerful production cars available in the United States.

To balance performance and efficiency, the LT4 leverages a trio of advanced technologies – direct injection, Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation) and continuously variable valve timing –with a new, more efficient supercharger.

The LT4 helps make the Corvette Z06 the most capable car in the brand’s history. The Z06 accelerates from a rest to 60 mph in only 2.95 seconds when equipped with the all-new, available eight-speed automatic transmission – and achieves it in 3.2 seconds with the standard seven-speed manual transmission.

A quarter-mile sprint takes just 10.95 seconds with the eight-speed automatic and 11.2 seconds with the seven-speed manual. With both versions, the Corvette Z06 hits 127 mph at the end of the quarter-mile.

When it comes to braking performance, the Z06 can stop from 60 mph in only 99.6 feet. That’s the best braking performance of any production car GM has ever tested. Additionally, the Corvette Z06 achieves 1.2 g in lateral acceleration compared with the Corvette’s previous best 1.13 g.
All test results were achieved with Z06 coupes fitted with the Z07 Performance package, which adds Brembo carbon ceramic brake rotors and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. The Z07 package also features the most aggressive aerodynamic package available on the Corvette Z06, which delivers the most downforce of any production car GM has ever tested.

The Z06 also offers the industry-first Performance Data Recorder – or PDR – which enables users to record high-definition video, with telemetry overlays, of their driving experiences on and off the track. The racing-derived system is included with the available navigation system
Pricing for the 2015 Corvette Z06 starts at $78,995 including destination, while the convertible model will start at $83,995.
