Land ROver breaks yet another Guinness record, this time the New Discovery driving over 5 million Lego bricks, awesome video.

  • New Land Rover Discovery shows its unrivalled capability on Guinness World Record-breaking LEGO structure
  • Show-stopping reveal features Land Rover customers Bear Grylls, Sir Ben Ainslie and Zara Phillips MBE
  • Full-size seven-seat versatility demonstrated by Sir Ben Ainslie and Land Rover BAR sailing team, the British challenger for the 35th America’s Cup
  • London’s Tower Bridge made from 5,805,846 LEGO bricks, beating previous record by 470,646 pieces

Land Rover has revealed the New Discovery seven-seat SUV by breaking a Guinness World Record for the largest LEGO structure ever built.
Long-term Land Rover Discovery owners Bear Grylls, Sir Ben Ainslie and Zara Phillips took part in the dynamic live reveal of Land Rover’s most versatile model around a 13-metre high LEGO version of London’s Tower Bridge.
The New Discovery embodies Land Rover’s drive to go Above and Beyond, combining British desirability with an unstoppable spirit of adventure. It is highly desirable with unrivalled capability and technology like no other.

Gerry McGovern, Land Rover’s Chief Design Officer, said: “New Discovery redefines the large SUV. Land Rover’s design and engineering teams have revolutionised the Discovery DNA to create a highly desirable, extremely versatile and hugely capable premium SUV.”
Everyday ingenuity has been at the heart of the Discovery for the last 27 years, with more than 1.2 million customers to date. The new Discovery is for the digital age.  Ingenious technology keeps your family safe, connected and confident on all surfaces, all terrains and in all weathers to ensure your destination is reached.
The fifth-generation model benefits from Land Rover’s strong, safe and light full-size SUV architecture, delivering comfort and adaptability like no other.
The reveal set was made from 5,805,846 individual LEGO bricks, breaking the previous Guinness World Record by 470,646 pieces. Laid end to end, the bricks would stretch for almost 200 miles, or from Tower Bridge in London to Paris.
Led by the UK’s only LEGO Certified Professional, Duncan Titmarsh, it took five months for expert LEGO Master Builders in the UK to construct the incredible Tower Bridge structure. It was erected in the grounds of Packington Hall, Warwickshire, UK – close to Land Rover’s Solihull plant, where New Discovery will be produced.
As part of the dramatic reveal sequence, British adventurer Bear Grylls appeared in typically exciting fashion by abseiling from the top of the huge Tower Bridge installation, through the open drawbridge and onto the stage beside the New Discovery.
The finale was Land Rover BAR Team Principal Sir Ben Ainslie driving his sailing team through 900mm-deep water under the bridge – demonstrating the unrivalled capability and versatility of Land Rover’s new SUV. Sir Ben towed a LEGO replica of the Land Rover BAR boat, a 186,500-brick meticulous model of the boat that will challenge for next year’s America’s Cup.
The model of Tower Bridge was flanked by two LEGO ‘Discovery Zones’ celebrating 27 years of Land Rover Discovery heritage. An Equestrian Zone, hosted by accomplished rider Zara Phillips, featured a typically British picnic scene made entirely from LEGO bricks. The Bear Grylls Adventure Zone included a LEGO fire and boulders to represent a scene from a typical mountain exploration.
New Discovery represents the next step in Land Rover’s journey of transformation from cogs to code and is designed, engineered and manufactured with the help of some of the 1,300 talented young engineers currently on the company’s leading training programmes. Jaguar Land Rover is one of UK's leading recruiter of graduates and apprentices: 3,000 have joined in the past six years and 400 new recruits have just started on the 2016 intake.
Bear Grylls said: “I have developed a powerful bond with Land Rover vehicles over the years and to me they embody that spirit of adventure coupled with a rugged reliability that also serves the needs of a young family. The Land Rover Discovery is invaluable on expeditions, whether filming in deserts, jungles or mountains, yet it’s still the perfect vehicle for the family's everyday use. It's a proud moment to be here with Land Rover revealing the New Discovery to the world.”
Emma Owen, LEGO UK and Ireland Spokeswoman, said: “We are thrilled that Jaguar Land Rover has used LEGO bricks to add some Guinness World Record-breaking creativity to the launch of the latest Discovery. This is an epic, outstanding build that absolutely captures the imagination in a way we haven't seen before.  With LEGO bricks and some imagination you really can build anything!”

Land Rover has reached new heights in its new vehicle technology testing.
World-renowned British adventurer and well-known Land Rover owner Bear Grylls took to the skies to put the New Discovery’s Intelligent Seat Fold technology to the ultimate test.
The system allows Discovery owners to configure their vehicle seating through the InControl Remote app on their smartphone from anywhere in the world - even in mid-air.

Having jumped from a plane with six members of the Royal Navy Parachute Display Team and freefalling at 125mph, Bear was able to change the vehicle’s seating layout at the touch of a button on his smartphone before he had to deploy his parachute.
Once on the ground all the skydivers were able to jump into a camouflaged prototype of the New Discovery, which comfortably seats seven full-sized adults.
The world-first Intelligent Seat Fold technology allows the two rear rows of seats to be fully reconfigured in as little as 14 seconds via the InControl Remote app downloaded on any iOS or Androidoperating system.
Bear Grylls said: “Land Rover is proving why the New Discovery is the ultimate family SUV. The fact that they have created this world-first Intelligent Seat Fold technology is impressive in itself and for the remote function to work while we are freefalling from a plane is pretty cool!
“I’m not sure many people will be using it in such a manner but the technology to operate the car remotely in this way will undoubtedly be a real winner for busy families who want to be prepared.”
Alex Heslop, Land Rover’s Chief Engineer for Discovery, said: “This unique feature sets the New Discovery apart from any other vehicle. The fact that owners can change the seating while doing things like queuing with their shopping is a true milestone in convenience delivered through technological innovation.”
The Intelligent Seat Fold technology can be activated in four different ways, including the remote function tried and tested by Bear Grylls. Closer to the ground, switches within the luggage area and on the C-pillar allow the seats to be moved or folded while standing beside the vehicle. Row two and three seats can also be raised and lowered using the main touchscreen display on the dashboard.
Land Rover’s InControl Remote app allows customers using both iOS and Android smartphones to connect with New Discovery from anywhere in the world, making it possible to perform a variety of functions. From confirming all the windows are closed or checking the fuel level to setting the air conditioning or monitoring its location, the advanced technology brings new levels of customer convenience and connectivity to the premium SUV market.

Sir Ranulph Fiennes and Bear Grylls find next generation Explorer, in association with Land Rover.

  • Young explorer Alex Woodford, 22, triumphs in snow laden adventure challenge which celebrates 25 years of Land Rover Discovery
  • As Land Rover’s first Next Generation Explorer, young British winner to be mentored by daredevil adventurer Bear Grylls
Ahead of this year’s Geneva motor show and after 24 hours of snow, sweat and tears in the five-part Discovery Adventure Challenge, Sir Ranulph Fiennes hands over the baton of exploration to Alex Woodford, 22, from Leicestershire, as she is crowned Land Rover’s Next Generation Explorer.

Seasoned adventurer Bear Grylls will now mentor Alex, a member of the British Exploring Society, as her prize.  As the winner she will participate in an epic adventure where she will experience first-hand the survival skills made famous by Bear.
Winner Alex showed true skill, stamina and determination as she battled through the epic competition which was held in the mountains of Megève, France and overseen by Ben Saunders, fresh from completing The Scott Expedition. Testing challenges included a technically demanding slalom drive on the slopes, a test of strength and technique with a 180kg sled pull, and a fast and furious kayak race across Lake Geneva.

Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Ben Saunders, Hannah White, Kenton Cool and Eric Loizeau all experienced the skills of each young explorer as they rotated amongst them during the Challenge. After a nail-biting finish, the ambassadors voted for the winner and crowned Land Rover’s Next Generation Explorer.
Alex was chosen unanimously by the judges after displaying strength, technique and courage throughout the challenges.

Sir Ranulph Fiennes commented, “Alex exhibited the true spirit of adventure. Throughout the competition she met each challenge head on, yet with a cool, calm and collected demeanor that eventually helped her win the title of Next Generation Explorer. I am extremely excited to see what lies ahead for Alex. With the guidance of Bear and Land Rover I predict she will go on to achieve great things.”

Alex said, “I can’t describe how incredibly excited I am to have received the accolade of Land Rover Next Generation Explorer. It was an honour just to tackle the challenges alongside such iconic adventurers as Ranulph and Ben, let alone be selected by them. I am incredibly proud and can’t wait to get started on my next challenge.”

Jaguar Land Rover Global Brand Experience Director Mark Cameron added, “I am delighted to announce Alex as the winner of our first ever Discovery Adventure Challenge.  All of the competitors showed the true spirit of going Above and Beyond, which lies at the heart of the Land Rover brand.  I believe that Alex will go on to join the impressive line-up of Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Ben Saunders, Eric Loizeau, Hannah White, Kenton Cool and Bear Gryllls, who have all achieved incredible feats across the globe.”
