WORLDWIDE SALES APRIL - VOLKSWAGEN - the brand handed over, over 513,000 units in the month.

  • 513,500 vehicles handed over to customers worldwide, an increase of 3.5 percent compared with 2016
  • Growth course in China continues with 4.0 percent rise
  • Positive impetus also comes from Europe and South America
  • New Atlas SUV successfully launched in the USA
The Volkswagen brand delivered 513,500 vehicles to customers worldwide in May, an increase of 3.5 percent compared with the corresponding month of the previous year. Jürgen Stackmann, Volkswagen Brand Board Member for Sales, commented: "May was a successful month for the Volkswagen brand.
Our deliveries grew in almost all key markets. As a result, our overall delivery figures for the period January to May are at last year's level. We continued our SUV offensive with the successful launch of the Atlas, thus making our debut in an important segment in the USA.
Further new models will reinforce this positive momentum in the coming months. The Volkswagen brand's competitive position will continue to improve."
The main trends in May were as follows:
  • 158,000 vehicles were delivered in Europe, representing a marked rise of 6.7 percent compared with the corresponding month of the previous year. The West European markets of the Netherlands (+35.6 percent), France (+10.5 percent) and Italy (+9.9 percent) were the main drivers of this positive trend.
  • In the home market of Germany, 50,800 vehicles were handed over to customers, 6.0 percent more than in May 2016. The new Tiguan remains a particular favorite, and recorded the clearest increase of all Volkswagen models.
  • The Volkswagen brand also reported further significant growth in Central and Eastern Europe, where deliveries rose by 22.7 percent to 22,900 vehicles. The main driver was Russia with a substantial rise of 27.9 percent. The recently launched new Tiguan, which is produced locally, continues to be very popular with customers there.
  • 30,000 vehicles were handed over to customers in the USA, corresponding to a rise of 4.3 percent. Delivery of the new Atlas SUV built at the factory in Chattanooga/Tennessee commenced in mid-May, and 1,600 models were handed over to customers. The Volkswagen brand has therefore made its debut in a further key segment in the United States.
  • In the South America region, deliveries ran at 35,000 vehicles, 14.7 percent higher than the previous year. The market in Argentina was one driver of this positive development. Deliveries there rose by 27.5 percent to 10,300 vehicles.
  • The Volkswagen brand continued on its growth course in China, its largest market, in May. 241,600 vehicles were handed over to customers there, corresponding to a rise of 4.0 percent. There was particularly high demand for the Tiguan family, with 29,100 vehicles (+61 percent) delivered, and the Magotan, where 18,800 models (+44 percent) were handed over. Over 5,000 customers took delivery of the Teramont, the new SUV, in its second full month of sales.

Volkswagen sees sales dip yet again, with a 2.6% decline on global demand.

  • 384,100 vehicles handed over to customers around the world
  • Positive trend in North and South America continues
  • As expected, planned changeover to new Golf affects deliveries in Europe
  • Reduction of tax concessions in China
In February 2017, the Volkswagen brand handed over 384,100 vehicles to customers throughout the world, corresponding to a fall of 2.6 per cent compared with the previous year. Jürgen Stackmann, Volkswagen Brand Board Member for Sales, commented: "Worldwide deliveries by the Volkswagen brand reached almost the same level as last year.
We achieved gratifying growth in the Americas, while certain European markets were affected by the model changeover in the Golf family, as expected.
In our home market of Germany, the extension of leasing terms for employees also had a significant impact. Over the next few months, we expect that the large number of new models such as the Arteon and the new Polo will have a positive impact in Europe too."
The main trends in February were as follows:
In Europe, deliveries fell by 9.5 per cent compared with the previous year, to 114,400 vehicles. In Spain and the Netherlands, deliveries were affected by the model changeover in the Golf family.
In the home market of Germany, 35,800 vehicles were handed over to customers, 19.8 per cent fewer than the previous year. As in previous months, the main reason was the extension in the leasing terms for employees. The model changeover in the high-volume Golf family also had an effect.
In Russia, deliveries were increased by 17.8 per cent to 6,400 vehicles. The successful market launch of the new Tiguan was the main driver behind this development and also boosted other markets in the region of Central and Eastern Europe, such as the Czech Republic (+25.6 per cent) and Poland (+21.0 per cent).
In the USA, 25,100 vehicles were delivered, representing a gratifying increase of 12.7 per cent. The Tiguan, Golf Estate (SportWagon including Alltrack), e-Golf and Golf R all achieved new sales records in February.
In South America, 28,700 vehicles were handed over to customers, representing an increase of 6.3 per cent. This development was due to special effects in Argentina, where deliveries were 24.5 per cent higher than the previous year. Deliveries in February 2016 had been especially low as a result of difficult economic and political conditions and were therefore significantly exceeded in 2017.
The significant reduction in tax concessions for vehicles with small displacements in China as of the end of 2016 continues to have an impact on the market. In Volkswagen's largest sales market, deliveries reached precisely the previous year's level, at 170,500 vehicles.
In India, demand for the new Ameo remained strong, leading to a significant increase of 45.0 percent in deliveries. This model was developed especially for the Indian market and was introduced successfully in 2016.

WORLDWIDE SALES JAN - Volkswagen dips in January after a major fall in China & the Asia Pacific.

  • Global deliveries in January slightly below previous year
  • Special effects in China
  • Positive developments especially in Europe and the USA
In January 2017, the Volkswagen brand handed over 495,900 vehicles to customers throughout the world, corresponding to a fall of 4.9% compared with the previous year.
Jürgen Stackmann, Volkswagen Brand Board Member for Sales, commented: "The Volkswagen brand started 2017 successfully.
Worldwide deliveries may be slightly below the value for the previous year, but this is solely due to special effects in the major market of China.
All the other reported gratifying increases compared with the previous year."

The main trends in January were as follows:
  • In Europe, deliveries rose by 4.7 per cent compared with the previous year, to 126,700 vehicles. This positive development was buoyed especially by the markets of Italy (+29.6 per cent) and Spain (+12.8 per cent. This good performance was based on strong demand for the new Tiguan.
  • In the home market of Germany, 38,600 vehicles were handed over to customers, corresponding to a slight fall of 5.1 per cent. As in previous months, the main reason for this fall was the extension of the leasing term for employees.
  • In the USA, deliveries increased significantly by 17.1 percent to 23,500 vehicles. New sales records were reported in January for the Tiguan, Golf estate (SportWagon) and e-Golf.
  • South America reported growth of 12.0 per cent to 32,500 vehicles. This is a result of special effects in Argentina. In January 2016, deliveries had been especially low as a result of difficult economic and political conditions. As a result, the figure for January 2017 was considerably higher.
  • In China, Volkswagen's largest sales market, special effects resulted in a fall in sales of 11.8 per cent to 270,800 vehicles at the beginning of the year. This was due to the significant reduction in tax concessions for vehicles of smaller displacement classes as of the end of 2016. In addition, January had one less working day than in 2016 as a result of the Chinese New Year festivities.
  • In India, the new Ameo resulted in an increase of 17.7% in deliveries. This model was developed especially for the Indian market and was introduced successfully in 2016.

WORLDWIDE SALES - Volkswagen is growing again after the diesel scandal, but its new Golf is BORING.

  • 4.4 increase in October compared with previous year
  • China continues to drive positive developments
  • Brand Board Member for Sales Jürgen Stackmann: “The positive overall trend for the Volkswagen brand has stabilized compared with 2015. The trend is therefore clearly headed in the right direction, but we still continue to work on the challenges the brand must master in some regions.”
The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand delivered 511,500 vehicles worldwide in October, 4.4 percent more than the previous year.
A total of 4,886,400 vehicles were handed over to customers from January to October.
As a result, cumulative deliveries by the Volkswagen brand again exceeded the previous year’s level (+1.0 percent). Jürgen Stackmann, Volkswagen Brand Board Member for Sales, commented:
“The positive overall trend for the Volkswagen brand has stabilized compared with 2015.

53,000 units of the previous and new Tiguan models were delivered in October, more than 25 percent up on the previous year. There has been a fantastic response to the new Tiguan.
And Touran deliveries were up more than 50 percent compared with the previous year, with 12,800 units of the previous and new models handed over to customers in October.
The trend is therefore clearly headed in the right direction, but we still continue to work on the challenges the brand must master in some regions.
That includes systematically strengthening the brand in Europe, North America and South America.”
Volkswagen brand deliveries in the overall European market decreased by 7.0 percent in October compared with the previous year to 132,400 vehicles. The majority of these models – 112,500 units – were delivered in Western Europe (-8.5 percent). 43,000 vehicles were handed over to customers in the home market of Germany, a decline of 21.1 percent. This is attributable to a systemic decline mainly as a result of an extension in the contract term for employee leasing. Volkswagen continued its successful path in Central and Eastern Europe, where deliveries rose by 3.0 percent to 19,800 vehicles.
7,000 units were handed over to customers in Russia, an increase of 1.0 percent compared with the previous year.
Deliveries in the North America region in October were down on the previous year at 46,400 vehicles (-9.8 percent). In the USA, deliveries compared with the previous year decreased by 18.5 percent to 24,800 units. This year’s upward trend in Mexico continued in October, with Volkswagen handing over 16,500 vehicles, representing a marked 7.9 percent increase compared with the previous year.
The situation in the South America region remained tense. 22,300 vehicles were handed over to customers there in October, an appreciable 36.0 percent decline compared with the previous year. Brazil remains the key factor for this negative trend. The region’s largest market is currently struggling with very challenging conditions.
In contrast, the Asia-Pacific region again developed well in October. 291,900 vehicles were delivered to customers there, a sizeable increase of 19.4 percent compared with the previous year. The market in China was the main driver of the growth in worldwide deliveries. Volkswagen continued its successful course in that country, delivering 278,100 vehicles there in October, an impressive 19.1 percent increase compared with 2015. 2,411,200 vehicles were handed over to customers in the Middle Kingdom from January to October. That is a new record and represents an increase of 12.3 percent compared with the previous year.
