The Range Rover Sport SVR sets 0-100mph times on different surfaces.

Come rain or shine, grass or gravel, snow or sand, the Range Rover Sport SVR delivers devastating pace.
Merging legendary all-terrain capability with 550HP V8 power and advanced traction technology provides Land Rover’s fastest vehicle with unique real world performance.
Since going on sale in February 2015, the Range Rover Sport SVR has showcased the abilities of Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations, with just shy of 1000 being delivered to customers in the UK. 

Many will have been attracted by the 0-60mph time of only 4.5 seconds, but the official figure only scratches the surface of the Range Rover Sport’s capability…
When the perfect traction offered by clean, dry Tarmac isn’t available, most sports cars immediately suffer from a lack of grip, stability and performance. But no sports car has the benefit of Land Rover’s legendary all-terrain know-how.
In this unique test, the Range Rover Sport SVR completes the 0-100km/h sprint on standard fit Michelin 275/45 R21 All Season Tyres on everything from tarmac and grass to snow and sand, using Land Rover’s innovative Terrain Response 2 technology.
The intelligent system automatically selects the appropriate driving mode to suit traction conditions including: General Driving, Dynamic, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud and Ruts, Sand, and Rock Crawl. The driver can also use a simple rotary controller on the centre console to choose a specific mode.
The times recorded are a testament to the Range Rover Sport’s inherent capability. On a notoriously slippery wet grass surface, the 0-100km/h time increased by only 0.8 seconds, while even on Sand the benchmark sprint took only 5.5 seconds.

The ultimate all-terrain performance test in detail
The Range Rover Sport SVR’s first challenge was the start-finish straight at Europe’s fastest racing circuit, Rockingham Motor Speedway in Corby, UK. In Dynamic mode, Terrain Response 2 sharpens throttle response and changes gear at higher revs. 
It also stiffens the Continual Variable Damping function within the vehicle’s Anti-Roll Control technology to reduce body roll. With all of these factors optimised, the Range Rover Sport SVR blasted from 0-100km/h in 4.7 seconds.
In the second test, the high-performance SUV tackled one of the most challenging surfaces any driver will encounter: wet grass. In Grass/Gravel/Snow mode the throttle response is softened to prevent loss of traction and gear changes are smoother and quicker. 
The Traction Control System also intervenes earlier to prevent tyre slip, while the central differential is preloaded to optimise off-the-line performance. Land Rover Experience East of England provided the perfect setting for this challenge and the Range Rover Sport SVR recorded a breath-taking 0-100km/h time of 5.5 seconds.
A quarry provided the ideal gravel surface, where the Range Rover Sport SVR’s inherent traction came to the fore. With the vehicle systems optimised to suit the loose surface, it registered 5.3 seconds.
To find snow the Range Rover Sport SVR headed to Jaguar Land Rover’s winter test facility in Arjeplog, Northern Sweden. Here, the optimised settings and all-wheel drive system helped the SVR complete the sprint on a combination of snow and ice in 11.3 seconds.
The next switch of the Terrain Response 2 dial was to select Mud and Ruts mode. In this setting the air suspension is raised and the Traction Control System allows controlled tyre slip to provide better traction in slippery conditions. In typically British surroundings at one of Land Rover’s all-terrain testing facilities, the performance SUV logged a 0-100km/h time of 6.5 seconds as its intelligent four-wheel-drive technology came into its own.
Pendine Sands at Carmarthen Bay in South Wales has been linked with speed ever since hosting the first world land speed record run took place there in 1924. That made it perfect to test the next setting on the Terrain Response 2 dial: Sand.
Selecting Sand mode sharpens the vehicle’s accelerator responses to allow a quick build-up of engine torque. The vehicle also holds onto gears for longer and locks the central differential to help maintain momentum. The result of this technological wizardry was a 0-100km/h time of 5.5 seconds.
The final mode on the Terrain Response 2 dial called for something different. Rock Crawl is designed to assist drivers when negotiating rocky environments and works in conjunction with the Low Range transmission, in keeping with the low-speed nature of the challenge posed by large rocks and boulders.
Rock Crawl mode softens the accelerator response to mitigate against sudden movements and provide maximum driver control. It also raises the air suspension, to optimise ground clearance. Using Terrain Response 2 the Range Rover Sport SVR scaled the rocky 32 per cent incline at the test facility with ease.
Driver Darren Jones, Stability Applications Leader, Jaguar Land Rover, said: “The Range Rover Sport SVR is famed for its on-road performance but this hasn’t been achieved at the expense of customary Land Rover capability. Our Terrain Response 2 technology takes the stress out of driving in all conditions.”

USA - Bentley Motors unveils four new revised models, the GT Speed and Black Edition, in both coupe & Convertible.

Bentley Motors unveiled the most powerful Bentley vehicles ever offered for sale here this week during an exclusive event in New York City. These four revised models to the Bentley Continental line up are the 2017 model year GT Speed, GT Speed Convertible, the GT Speed Black Edition and the GT Speed Convertible Black Edition.
These GT Speed models can reach a top speed of 206 mph. The vehicle is propelled by the iconic 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged W12 engine. 

The W12 produces 642 PS, up from 635 PS, while twisting force is raised to 840 Nm, a 20 Nm increase. Continuous maximum torque delivery is available from 2,000 to 5,000 rpm. The GT Speed is capable of sprinting from 0-60 mph in just 3.9 seconds (0-100 km/h in 4.1 secs).
Bentley dealers across the US are taking orders now with deliveries beginning this summer. Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Pricing (MSRP) for the GT Speed models starts at $240,300, including/not including destination, taxes, etc. MSRP for each model is:

Bentley Mulsanne First Edition makes global debut at the Beijing Auto Show 2016.

Bentley is enhancing its new Mulsanne range at the Beijing Auto Show with the global debut of the highly exclusive Mulsanne First Edition. Handcrafted in Crewe and featuring a suite of elegantly executed styling revisions, Bentley’s new pinnacle model range comprises the Mulsanne, the performance-focused Mulsanne Speed and ultra-luxurious Mulsanne Extended Wheelbase, with its enhanced rear passenger space and airline-style seats. 

Just 50 examples of the First Edition will be made available across the new three-model Mulsanne family.

A bespoke Mulliner sterling silver vanity kit inlaid into the rear picnic table is available on the Mulsanne First Edition. The luxuriously weighted set – created by Asprey of London – includes a vanity mirror, hair brush and comb, all of which fit perfectly into a unique Mulliner-designed picnic table for discreet stowage.
First Edition motifs are positioned throughout the cabin, including a unique diametric overlay on the rear seat picnic tables, special tread plates and Union Jack-inspired First Edition embroidery on the seats.
A true celebration of Bentley’s new flagship, each Mulsanne First Edition also features a specially engraved Bentley ‘Flying B’ bonnet ornament and can be specified with a champagne cooler.
On display at the Beijing show, the Mulsanne Extended Wheelbase First Edition features a ripple-patterned Fulbeck veneer sourced from a 350-year-old English walnut tree. This extremely rare and sought-after wood fetched an undisclosed record price at auction, with Bentley able to acquire enough to create veneer panels for a small number of cars. All other Mulsanne First Edition models are available with a unique Antique Ash veneer
The new Bentley Mulsanne Extended Wheelbase offers a first-class air-travel experience for the road and is designed for customers with a preference for being chauffeured. Benefitting from an additional 250 mm of rear legroom, this significant increase in interior space makes the Mulsanne Extended Wheelbase the most generously proportioned pinnacle luxury limousine in the world.
Further enhancing this pinnacle interior space are new airline-style reclining seats with extending footrests and a rear compartment sunroof. The ability to sleep in the rear is assured thanks to rear compartment curtains, which in the First Edition are specified in a new Ivory colour to match the interior. These features combine to create a uniquely relaxing automotive environment.
Rear-seat passengers also benefit from the introduction of the Bentley Entertainment Tablet – a pair of 10.2” Android devices (with 4G, WiFi and Bluetooth) seamlessly integrated into the backs of the front seats. With typically exquisite attention to detail, a single touch of a button engages a beautifully weighted mechanism, smoothly deploying the screens from their stowed positions.
The Android-powered tablets, which feature a Bentley-specific interface, have access to over a million Android Apps – such as Skype, Google Play and Spotify – and can be used away from the car, in the office and at home. Each tablet has 32 GB of on-board storage (expandable to 128 GB via a Micro-SDXC card), USB ports and a front-facing camera. Audio can also be streamed through the vehicle speakers, and new destinations can be sent from the tablets to the Mulsanne’s navigation system. Internet browsing is via the car’s 4G WiFi system, permitting access to internet radio and local or streamed video.

Flying Spur V8 S – The Sporting Side of Luxury
Bentley will also unveil its new Flying Spur V8 S in China for the first time. Sitting between the current Flying Spur V8 and the family flagship W12 model, the performance-focused V8 S develops 528 PS and 680 Nm.
Complementing this impressive performance, a new responsive suspension tuning for the Flying Spur V8 S improves handling and body control, while the aluminium double-wishbone front and trapezoidal multi-link rear self-levelling air suspension with continuous damping control ensure that the Flying Spur’s legendary refinement is maintained.
The exterior of the Flying Spur V8 S features dark and sporting revisions. Bentley’s iconic matrix grille is black as standard with an exclusive front bumper design which, along with optional dark-tint lamps front and rear and a Beluga gloss rear diffuser, gives the Flying Spur V8 S a dramatic on-road presence.
Inside the cabin, styling is precisely matched to the sportier exterior aesthetic and includes piano-black veneer, knurled gear knob and gearshift paddles and three-spoke sports steering wheel as standard.
Tuned for power, Bentley’s renowned 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 S engine develops an additional 21 PS, developing 528 PS (521 bhp / 388 kW) compared to its V8 sibling’s 507 PS (500 bhp / 373 kW). A mighty 680 Nm (502 lb.ft) is on offer from 1,700 rpm. This powers the Flying Spur V8 S to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds, 0.3 seconds faster than the V8’s already impressive sprint time.
The V8 S has a top speed of 190 mph (306 km/h) with power delivered to the road via all-wheel drive with a 40:60 rear-biased torque split for sure-footed, engaging driving in all road and weather conditions.
Bentayga by Mulliner – A Vision in Veneer
Also unveiled in Beijing is a one-of-a-kind version of the brand’s new, highly sought-after luxury SUV – the Bentayga by Mulliner, Bentley’s bespoke coachbuilding division.
This unique model features a remarkable veneer set depicting the mountain scenery that inspired the Bentayga’s name. More than 30 individual pieces made from 10 different veneers have been crafted and shaped to create a vivid, detailed mountainscape picture – a real showcase of the skill possessed by the Mulliner team in Crewe.
Combining unparalleled luxury with sporting ability, off-road performance and everyday usability, the new Bentayga offers a true Bentley driving experience.

Ford introduces new lighting technology that removes the guilt of accidentally dazzling other drivers.

Have you ever driven on dipped headlights rather than run the risk angering other drivers by forgetting you are using high-beam headlights? Ford has now developed a technology that enables drivers to take full advantage of their headlights’ capability, without dazzling other drivers.

Glare-Free Highbeam uses a windshield-mounted camera to detect the headlights or taillights of vehicles and bicycles up to 800m away at night, and uses specially developed headlights to block light that could otherwise temporarily blind other drivers and cyclists.
Driving with high-beam headlights enables drivers to see hazards in the road much earlier. And studies have shown that automated high-beam headlights are activated up to 10 times more than when drivers have to switch to high-beam themselves.
Edmund King OBE, AA President, said: “Road-users being dazzled by the use of vehicle full-beam is an increasing problem in the UK, and is said to be the cause of hundreds of road accidents and around 10 fatalities each year. 
Headlight technology is advancing rapidly, providing drivers with a greater field of vision and illumination on the road, but can cause an equal number of problems for other drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. It is testament to Ford for offering this advanced feature to their customers to help tackle the issue.”
According to the UK Highway Code:
1.Rule 114: “You must not use any lights in a way which would dazzle or cause discomfort to other road users, including pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders.”
2.Rule 115: “You must keep your headlights dipped when overtaking until you are level with the other vehicle and then change to main beam if necessary, unless this would dazzle oncoming road users.”
3.Rule 115: “You must slow down, and if necessary stop, if you are dazzled by oncoming headlights.”
“Ask any driver what the most annoying habits of other drivers are and sooner or later the subject of people who don’t dip their headlights will come up,” said Michael Koherr, research engineer, Lighting Systems, Ford of Europe. “Ford’s new Glare-Free Highbeam helps maximise the use of high beam and means drivers can see significantly more of the road ahead – without causing any distraction to other road users.”
The technology was developed by a global team of Ford engineers and supplier partners. Testing included a purpose-built light simulation area and test drives in night-time conditions around the globe.
Glare-Free Highbeam works together with Ford’s Auto High Beam system, and Ford Dynamic LED headlights with Adaptive Front Lighting System, which can adjust the headlight beam angle and intensity to one of seven settings according to speed, ambient light, steering angle, distance to the vehicle in front and windscreen wiper activation. Ford’s automated lighting technologies are automatically activated when low ambient light conditions are detected.
“We found that some drivers are so concerned about dazzling other road users that they don’t use high beam at all,” Koherr said. “Ford’s Glare-Free Highbeam technology can remove that stress for drivers, and softly transitioning between settings also helps the driver’s eyes adjust faster to changing quantities of light.”
Further semi-autonomous technologies offered by Ford can scan traffic signs and adjust the throttle to help drivers stay within legal speed limits, and can detect people in or near the road ahead, or who may cross the vehicle’s path, and automatically apply the brakes if a potential collision is detected. Ford also is developing future advanced lighting technology that improves visibility at roundabouts, stop, and give way or yield signs, and draws the driver’s attention to pedestrians, cyclists and even large animals in the vehicle’s path or even just off the road.
Glare-Free Highbeam is available now for the all new Ford S-MAX, Galaxy and also will be offered for the forthcoming Ford Edge SUV.
