Jaguar designed a special livery for its Team Sky F-PACE prototype to celebrate Team Sky’s third Tour de France victory in four years in Paris yesterday.

The prototype version of the Jaguar F-PACE, which was used as Team Sky’s support vehicle on Stage 1 in Utrecht, returned to the race in a celebratory light camouflage as Chris Froome and his teammates crossed the finish line to celebrate the British rider’s second Tour de France win.

Photographs from Team Sky’s 1-2 finish in La-Pierre-Saint-Martin, where Froome won his first stage followed by teammate, Richie Porte, as well as other highlights including Geraint Thomas tackling the mountains, Luke Rowe leading the team out on the cobbles to the early team time trial stages, are all a part of the commemorative and inspirational camouflage depicting key moments from this year’s race.

Team Sky rider and Tour de France winner 2015, Chris Froome, said: “Winning a first Tour de France in 2013 was an incredible feeling, but this second yellow jersey is special. I haven't done it alone though. As well as a world class team of riders, Team Sky has a great set of partners, and the ingenuity Jaguar has contributed into designing bespoke cars for the team and especially our Pinarello DOGMA F8 bikes has been fantastic.”

Jaguar has been a proud partner to Team Sky since its inception in 2010, providing high performance support vehicles to the team, including the XF Sportbrake, F-TYPE Coupé and F-PACE. In 2014, Jaguar deepened their relationship with the team by becoming an official Innovation Partner, beginning to work more closely with the team and their partners to co-engineer products for the team to train and race with.

Using the same methods and taking key insights from the technology-leading work on Jaguar Land Rover vehicles, including the Jaguar XE, the British automotive brand applied its industry-leading expertise in aerodynamics and vibration analysis to help create the Pinarello DOGMA F8 and DOMGA K8-S bikes, as well as the KASK Protone V2.0 helmet used by Team Sky on this year’s Tour de France.

The new Jaguar F-PACE broke cover on Saturday 04 July in front of an estimated live audience of one million people as it supported Team Sky on Stage One of the Tour de France in Utrecht. Over two billion more were also estimated to have watched on television or online around the world. Five Team Sky riders - Ian Stannard, Luke Rowe, Peter Kennaugh, Leopold König  and Chris Froome - were supported by the F-PACE during the Grand Depart, providing a pressurised real world test of Jaguar's first performance crossover.

A cutting edge bike rack, designed with an innovative telescopic clamp by Jaguar Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations, was developed specifically for the stage and carried two Team Sky's Pinarello Bolide Time Trial bikes.

The F-PACE shed its hard camouflage in public for the first time and instead sported a specially created wrap, hinting at the final design of the vehicle, which will be fully unveiled later this year.

Team Sky Head of Technical Operations & Commercial, Carsten Jeppesen, said: "The atmosphere in Utrecht was incredible. The Netherlands has a huge passion for cycling and right from the moment we arrived at the start line, you could feel the excitement. The appearance of Jaguar's F-PACE prototype definitely added to the hype today - you could see it made a big impact with the crowds."

Bespoke Jaguar F-TYPE Coupé high performance support vehicle

Jaguar has extended its support as an Innovation Partner to Team Sky by designing, engineering and building a bespoke F-TYPE Coupé high performance support vehicle for the team to use during Stage 20 of the race. Stage 20 of the 2014 Tour de France will see riders traverse from Bergerac to Périgueux.

Development of this bespoke F-TYPE Coupé by Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations follows the successful launch of the Jaguar F-TYPE R Coupé - the most dynamically capable, performance-focused production car Jaguar has ever built, which went on sale worldwide earlier this year. This unique F-TYPE concept vehicle is based on the F-TYPE R Coupé and will be supplied with the same 550PS/680Nm 5.0-litre V8 supercharged engine.

Jaguar does not plan to place into series production any version of this unique F-TYPE Coupé. Engineers working in the new Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations team were briefed specifically to develop one vehicle for Team Sky, and this exciting version of the F-TYPE sports car is now set to support some of the Team Sky riders on Saturday 26^th July during the time trial (TT).

Bespoke features include a new racking solution, which carries two of the team’s Pinarello Bolide TT bikes. The vehicle exterior is finished in Team Sky’s famous livery, with colourways and other Team Sky graphic design features also present inside the car. Further specifications include a separate electric supply in the boot which provides power to the radios, amplifiers, microphones, horns and televisions which support communications between Team Sky’s Sports Director and the rider.

Chris Froome, Team Sky and Jaguar: 'Cycling Under The Sea'

Tour de France 2013 winner Chris Froome is the first person to cycle from the United Kingdom to France under the sea.

As the world’s leading professional cyclists depart the UK after three days of enthralling  Tour de France action, Jaguar has released a short film titled “Team Sky – Cycling Under The Sea,” which documents the Team Sky leader riding from the Eurotunnel Terminal in Folkestone on England’s south-east coast, to Calais in France.

Froome rode through the tunnel at a training-pace, completing the world first ride in a time of approximately 55 minutes and reached speeds of up to 65 kilometres per hour.

This groundbreaking marketing initiative follows the recent launch of the Pinarello Dogma F8 at Jaguar Land Rover’s base in Gaydon, and further demonstrates Jaguar and Team Sky’s partnership and brand campaign ‘#KeepPushing.

Jaguar and Team Sky began discussions over six months ago with Eurotunnel, who are celebrating its twentieth year in 2014, to make the cycling challenge possible. The service tunnel is one of the highest security sites in the UK and France.

Reflecting on his ‘World First’ ride, Chris Froome said: “Cycling under the sea was an incredible experience.Opportunities to become the first person in the world to achieve these kind of feats are extremely rare nowadays, especially as a pro-cyclist. To become the first person ever to cycle through the Eurotunnel was right up there with some of the most iconic rides I’ve ever done - this must have been one of very few ‘world first’ rides left!”

Team Sky cyclist and defending Tour de France champion Chris Froome was the star of the Jaguar stand at the Geneva Motor Show today for the introduction of the new Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake and the company’s official announcement that its new premium sports sedan will be named Jaguar XE. 

Speaking at the Geneva Auto Show Dr Ralf Speth, Chief Executive Officer, Jaguar Land Rover, confirmed: “We recently announced that our new Engine Manufacturing Centre would produce a new family of premium, lightweight, low-friction, low emission four-cylinder petrol and diesel units. This range of engines will be named Ingenium and the first vehicle to be powered by them will be our all-new mid-sized Jaguar sports sedan. That car will be called the Jaguar XE, and it will be unveiled in production form later this year.”

The Team Sky rider was driven onto the stage in the XFR-S Sportbrake, Jaguar’s first ever high-performance, R-S badged production estate car.

Chris spoke on stage with Phil Popham, Group Marketing Director, Jaguar Land Rover, discussing Team Sky preparations and ambitions for the Tour de France 2014. Chris and Phil also conducted a press conference announcing Jaguar’s Innovation Partnership, which provides design and engineering resources to Team Sky.

Chris Froome confirmed that Jaguar has already advanced its association as an 'Innovation Partner' with Team Sky through the integration of design and engineering resources to further enhance the team's performance.

Jaguar, which has provided technical support vehicles to Team Sky since 2010 – including several XF Sportbrake models during the famous 2012 Tour de France win by Sir Bradley Wiggins – recently announced its new sponsorship agreement for 2014 and 2015. Jaguar is the team’s official Innovation Partner, and the Jaguar logo now features on the race jerseys.

The new Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake and new R-Sport derivatives featuring Jaguar’s four-cylinder 2.2-litre 163PS diesel engine, will support Team Sky’s race operations from this year onwards, and will be seen by a global audience of millions during the 2014 Tour de France ‘Grand Départ’ in Yorkshire, UK, in July.

Based on the acclaimed XFR-S saloon, the XFR-S Sportbrake’s 5.0-litre supercharged V8 produces 550PS and 680 Nm of torque, giving it a blistering 0-60mph time of 4.6 seconds with an electronically-limited top speed of 186mph (300 km/h) – and yet, with up to 1,675 litres of rear load space, this premium estate car provides great versatility and practicality, all without compromising on the luxury and refinement expected of a Jaguar.

To celebrate an outstanding second victory in the Tour de France for Team Sky, Jaguar today rewarded race winner Chris Froome with a very special Jaguar F-TYPE sports car.

Jaguar has contributed to the success of Froome and Team Sky in 2013 through provision of the Jaguar XF Sportbrake as the team’s official support vehicle.

As part of the #GetBehindTeamSky social media campaign created by Jaguar, fans were asked to tweet their own images of support. An overwhelming response followed, with selected photographs forming the famous ‘Team Sky’ line running down the centre of the car. In this case, the livery is yellow rather than blue, in recognition of Team Sky’s achievement. The design mimics the livery of the Team Sky Jaguar XF Sportbrake, which featured the images submitted by supporters during the final stage of the Tour in Paris on Sunday.

The victory marks back-to-back successes in the Tour for Team Sky, with Chris Froome becoming the second British rider to win the Yellow Jersey after Sir Bradley Wiggins in 2012.
