- Renault car sales up by 12.5 per cent in 2016 to 85,102 vehicles

- Fifth consecutive year of growth, outpacing the market with increasing market share
- Groupe Renault UK records 137,506 vehicle sales in 2016 – up 8 per cent on 2015
Renault UK experienced further growth in 2016, reaching a five-year high of 85,102 car sales. The French brand was up 12.5 per cent on 2015 outpacing a market that grew by two per cent, according to official figures released today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
In 2016, Renault cars achieved a market share of 3.2 per cent – up 0.3 percentage points on 2015, while Groupe Renault, comprising of Renault cars, vans and Dacia, achieved a market share of 4.5 per cent – up 0.3 percentage points on 2015 and outperforming a total market growth of two per cent.
With the introduction of All-New Mégane and All-New Scénic in November, Renault now has the youngest model range in Europe and a completely refreshed family car line-up. The Renault Kadjar crossover has proved a particular hit with British drivers representing almost a quarter of all Renault car sales in 2016 with 20,869 vehicles sold. Sales of the stylish Clio supermini and Captur crossover models continue to rise with sales of 23,825 and 25,841 vehicles respectively.
Paul Flanagan, Groupe Renault UK Managing Director, commented: “We have witnessed this extraordinary growth thanks to customer demand for our stunning new models, supported by our dealer network’s commitment to customer satisfaction – a partnership that has proven successful in 2016 with first and second in the Auto Express Driver Power Aftersales Service Satisfaction survey. The addition of All-New Mégane and All-New Scénic this year has provided a further boost to the UK range and we look ahead to their first full year of sales in 2016 along with the launch of our All-New Koleos D-segment SUV.”
Groupe Renault, which comprises Renault cars, vans and Dacia, significantly outpaced the UK vehicle market during 2016, with sales totalling 137,506 vehicles for a market share of 4.5 per cent – up 8 per cent from the year before and outpacing a total market growth of two per cent. These results make Groupe Renault the fastest growing volume franchise in the UK, outperforming the overall market for the fourth consecutive year.
