Nissan Motor Company has announced sales and production for the first six months of its fiscal year.

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced its production, sales and export figures for September and the six months from April to September 2016.

"We have continued to grow throughout the first half of the fiscal year, resulting in record sales and production over the period," said executive vice president Daniele Schillaci, global head of marketing and sales. 

"This growth has been supported by demand for core models in some of our largest markets, such as the Rogue in the U.S., the Versa and NP300 Frontier in Mexico, and the Qashqai and Sylphy in China.

"In the last few months alone, we launched our ProPILOT single-lane autonomous drive technology on the Serena minivan in Japan, we unveiled the revolutionary new Micra at the Paris Motor Show, and we started production of the redesigned Note in Japan, featuring our e-Power technology. We are confident that this ongoing influx of new products and technologies will continue to set the stage for further growth."

1. Production

September

Nissan's global production in September increased 11.2 percent year-on-year to 485,154 units, the eighth consecutive month of increase and a record for the month of September.

Production in Japan increased 7.0 percent year-on-year to 77,714 units, the second consecutive month of increase.

Production outside Japan increased 12.0 percent year-on-year to 407,440 units, the seventeenth consecutive month of increase and a record for the month of September.

In the U.S., production increased 2.8 percent year-on-year to 88,489 units, a record for the month of September.

In Mexico, production decreased 6.7 percent year-on-year to 65,681 units.

In the U.K., production increased 6.6 percent year-on-year to 50,133 units, a record for the month of September.

In Spain, production increased 64.4 percent year-on-year to 12,288 units.

In China, production increased 34.3 percent year-on-year to 127,748 units, a record for the month of September.

Production in other regions increased 9.5 percent year-on-year to 63,101 units.

April-September

Nissan's global production from April to September increased 7.5 percent year-on-year to 2,708,441 units, the third consecutive year of increase and a record high for the April-September period.

In Japan, production increased 3.6 percent year-on-year to 431,405 units, the second consecutive year of increase.

Production outside of Japan increased 8.2 percent year-on-year to 2,277,036 units, the seventh consecutive year of increase and a record for the April-September period.

In the U.S., production increased 4.6 percent year-on-year to 495,860 units, a record for the April-September period.

In Mexico, production increased 3.1 percent year-on-year to 425,092 units, a record for the April-September period.

In the U.K., production increased 10.6 percent year-on-year to 257,513 units, a record for the April-September period.

In Spain, production increased 32.1 percent year-on-year to 63,528 units.

In China, production increased 11.0 percent year-on-year to 633,153 units, a record for the April-September period.

Production in other regions increased 9.6 percent year-on-year to 401,890 units.

2. Sales

September

Global sales increased 6.0 percent year-on-year to 488,307 units, the second consecutive month of increase and a record for the month of September.

Japan:

Sales including mini-vehicles decreased 16.3 percent year-on-year to 47,350 units.

• Vehicle registrations decreased 11.0 percent year-on-year to 33,468 units.
• Mini-vehicle sales decreased 26.6 percent year-on-year to 13,882 units.

Sales outside Japan increased 9.1 percent year-on-year to 440,957 units, a record for the month of September.

In the U.S., sales increased 4.9 percent year-on-year to 127,797 units, a record for the month of September.

In Mexico, sales increased 15.1 percent year-on-year to 32,588 units, a record high for the month of September.

In Europe, sales increased 2.1 percent year-on-year to 80,384 units, a record high for the month of September.

In China, sales increased 26.3 percent year-on-year to 123,612 units, a record high for the month of September.

April-September

Global sales increased 1.7 percent year-on-year to 2,633,615 units, the seventh consecutive year of increase and a record for the April-September period.

Japan:

Sales including mini-vehicles decreased 20.2 percent year-on-year to 211,222 units.

• Vehicle registrations decreased 6.5 percent year-on-year to 164,636 units.
• Mini-vehicle sales decreased 47.5 percent year-on-year to 46,586 units.

Sales outside Japan increased 4.2 percent year-on-year to 2,422,393 units, the seventh consecutive year of increase and a record for the April-September period.

In the U.S., sales increased 3.7 percent year-on-year to 782,820 units, a record for the April-September period.

In Mexico, sales increased 14.8 percent year-on-year to 190,756 units, a record for the April-September period.

In Europe, sales decreased 1.4 percent year-on-year to 362,123 units.

In China, sales increased 12.1 percent year-on-year to 630,501 units, a record for the April-September period.

3. Exports from Japan

September

Exports in September increased 40.3 percent year-on-year to 51,856 units, the fifth consecutive month of increase.

April-September

Exports increased 9.1 percent year-on-year to 272,509 units, the second consecutive year of increase.

Based on average foreign exchange rates of JPY 121.9/USD and JPY 135.1/EUR Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced first-half fiscal year financial results for the six-month period ending September 30, 2015.

Nissan reported sharply increased operating profit and solid revenue growth. Strong demand for new products in North America and Western Europe, combined with the benefits of continued cost discipline and the yen correction against the US dollar, offset declining market conditions in Japan and several emerging markets.

Operating profit rose to 395.0 billion yen for the period, representing a 6.7% margin on net revenues that climbed 15.3% to 5.93 trillion yen for the period.

“Nissan has delivered solid revenue growth and improved profitability in the first-half of the fiscal year, driven by encouraging demand for our vehicles in North America and a rebound in Western Europe, which compensated for market volatility elsewhere,” said Carlos Ghosn, president and chief executive officer.

On a management pro forma basis, which includes the proportional consolidation of results from Nissan’s joint venture operation in China, net revenue for the period increased to 6.45 trillion yen, up 14.4% year-on-year. Operating profit was up 38.8% versus the same period last year, to 461.6 billion yen, resulting in a 7.2% operating profit margin.

Nissan sold 2.62 million vehicles globally during the period, a 1.3% rise year-on-year.

The sales and earnings improvement followed strong growth in North America, particularly for the Altima sedan and Rogue SUV, and encouraging demand in Western Europe for models including the X-Trail and Qashqai. In China, nine-month passenger vehicle unit sales rose by 9.5% to 722,000 units. Despite slower demand in Japan and several emerging markets, the company continued to benefit from robust overall sales of award-winning models derived from the Common Module Family, developed within the Renault-Nissan Alliance.

Nissan also remained the world-leader in electric vehicles, with cumulative sales approaching 200,000 units. As part of its zero-emission strategy, the company announced in September that its best-selling all-electric Nissan LEAF will be available with a new, larger 30 kWh battery that delivers a more-than-20-percent-longer driving range between charges.

FY2015 Outlook

“We are increasing our financial forecast for the full year as our product offensive, our continued financial discipline and the ongoing benefits of our Alliance strategy is delivering better than expected results,” said Mr Ghosn.

Nissan has updated its forecasts first issued to the Tokoy Stock Exchange on May 13, 2015. Calculated under the equity accounting method for our joint venture in China for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2016, the revised forecasts showed:

The upward revision is based on a global sales forecast of 5.5 million units for the full fiscal year, up 3.4% on the prior fiscal year.

Nissan's global production in September increased 0.8 percent year-on-year to 436,272 units.

Production in Japan increased 2.1 percent year-on-year to 72,662 units, mainly due to strong demand for the X-Trail.

Production outside of Japan increased 0.6 percent year-on-year to 363,610 units, marking an all-time record for the month of September.

In the U.S., production increased 3.7 percent year-on-year to 86,076 units, primarily due to increased demand for the Murano, marking an all-time record for the month of September.

In Mexico, production increased 4.2 percent year-on-year to 70,382 units, mainly due to strong sales of the NP300 Frontier and the Versa, marking an all-time record for the month of September.

In the U.K., production decreased 4.0 percent year-on-year to 47,009 units.

In Spain, production decreased 9.9 percent year-on-year to 7,476 units.

In China, production was up 3.4 percent year-on-year to 95,153 units, primarily due to increased demand for the Sylphy series.

Production in other regions was down 6.7 percent year-on-year to 57,514 units.

April-September

Nissan's global production from April to September increased 2.7 percent year-on-year to 2,520,338 units, marking a record high for the April-September period.

In Japan, domestic production increased 0.7 percent year-on-year to 416,457 units.

Production outside of Japan increased 3.1 percent year-on-year to 2,103,881 units, marking a record high for the April-September period.

In the U.S., production was up 2.1 percent year-on-year to 473,828 units, marking a record high for the April-September period.

In Mexico, production increased 1.9 percent year-on-year to 412,164 units, marking a record high for the April-September period.

In the U.K., production was down 3.2 percent year-on-year to 232,779 units.

In Spain, production decreased 30.2 percent year-on-year to 48,107 units.

In China, production was down 0.7 percent year-on-year to 570,338 units.

Production in other regions increased 20.6 percent year-on-year to 366,665 units.

September

Global sales increased 4.6 percent year-on-year to 460,509 units, marking an all-time sales record for the month of September.

Japan:

• Sales including mini-vehicles declined 8.3 percent year-on-year to 56,544 units.
• Vehicle registrations decreased 5.5 percent year-on-year to 37,622 units.
• Mini-vehicle sales decreased 13.4 percent year-on-year to 18,922 units.

Sales outside of Japan increased 6.7 percent year-on-year to 403,965 units, marking an all-time sales record for the month of September.

Sales in the U.S. increased 18.3 percent year-on-year to 121,782 units, marking an all-time sales record for the month of September, mainly due to higher demand for the Rogue and the Versa sedan.

Sales in Mexico increased 17.5 percent year-on-year to 28,313 units, marking an all-time sales record for the month of September, mainly due to increased demand for the NP300 Frontier and the Versa.

In Europe, sales increased 11.8 percent year-on-year to 78,720 units, marking an all-time sales record for the month of September, primarily due to strong sales of the Pulsar and the Qashqai.

In China, sales were up 2.9 percent year-on-year to 97,868 units, mainly due to increased demand for the X-Trail and the Sylphy series.

Sales in other regions were down 14.7 percent year-on-year to 65,117 units.

April-September

Global sales increased 1.3 percent year-on-year to 2,589,097 units, marking a record high for the April-September period.

Japan:

• Sales including mini-vehicles declined 9.0 percent year-on-year to 264,793 units.
• Vehicle registrations decreased 3.7 percent year-on-year to 176,061 units.
• Mini-vehicle sales decreased 17.9 percent year-on-year to 88,732 units.
