Purpose

I will try my best to provide detailed info on various cars and what is like to live with them, I have already produced a few for Jaguar-car-forums, I will do my best to be unbiased, but it will be hard for some cars. I will re-produce press releases and copy from other motoring news.

  • Grateful thanks for all the Figures supplied by the SMMT.
The plate change month has seen very few changes, a couple of brands have gone from YTD negative figures to positive, Volkswagen has taken a further significant drop in sales, and there seems to be no end in sight as of yet, the UK's best selling brand has again posted negative figures, even with a large amount of new products already released or about to be released, and the other German brands have seen rises over the month and YTD.

Then we have the Paris Motor show, many new cars made their European and world debuts this year, the most significant of which was the Discovery 5, the Now long on the tooth Disco 4 and the lightly adjusted Disco 3 are now so old and in desperate need of  replacement, we now have it in all its glory, in fact they launched it over a 5 million lego brick bridge for the world to see.

Jaguar Land Rover both produced huge growth spurts, and again, there seems to be no end in sight, with the UK, European and world figures all growing over the year and producing record numbers of new registrations, the All-New Discovery 5 has had its launch, and Jaguar are going forward with the new small SUV, and XF sportbrake.

PSA has NOT had a good year so far this year with sales down over the three brands, even though there has been new models, refreshed products additional technology and more, next year should be better with the new C3, 3008, 5008 and the possible launch of the Citroen Aircross, amongst others.

MG continues to grow with the plate change month nearly doubling its sales, and year to date is running at nearly 35% up, the MG3 and MG GS have both proven to be good sellers, next year, if the rumour mill is correct, should see a new small SUV and the MG5, refreshed MG3, with new engines and an Auto too, but i wont be holding my breath, as MG tend to drag out the models.

The month saw a 1.55% growth over the same month last year, so, BREXIT is not hitting hard on the auto sales front, YTD is still higher at 2.56%, the doom mongers have, so far, gotten it all wrong, JLR has been stating that sales will be hit hard, yet they then release record sales figures, so either they know something, or they are after some grant or tax break, or indeed, maybe sales will take a turn for the worse, but i cant see it happening this year, i still expect 2016 to end the year on a high.

TMW - Despite all the rumours and negativity the UK has grown it's car sales for July, so the EU exit has not been proven.

Despite the constant doom mongers harping on about the downturn in sales for the UK because we have pulled out of the EU, we have proven yet again that the sales just continue to grow, from the bottom end of the market like Dacia and MG to the higher end like Bentley, the buyers just keep on handing over their hard earned cash.

However, the usual brands that dominate the UK, Ford, Vauxhall and Volkswagen all dipped, again, even with both Ford and Vauxhall having three models each in the August top ten sales list, and Volkswagen has two, that leaves, Nissan's Qashqai and Kia's Sportage taking the other two, however, the extra model from Ford and Vauxhall are also SUV's, so four of this segment has now impacted on the sales chart.

MG has continued to grow with a 130% increase on last year, also Infiniti and DS Automobiles are the only two brands that have year to date growth into the three figures, with a few like Abarth, Smart and Ssangyong all producing good results, the remainder of the year will be interesting.

Next month is the big one, where significant sales occur, it will be this month, September, and the remaining quarter of the year that will decide how 2017 progresses, whether the Brexit effect is real or not, will all happen in Q4 this year.

So here comes September, the month of huge sales, lets hope that the UK brands all grow, and prove one way or the other the truth behind our stupid decision on leaving the EU.

Well, What to make of July's figures, they haven't dropped, so i suppose that a good thing, but then they have not really grown either, the month was stagnant, and thats not good, is it just the calm before the September storm, or is there more to it than that, has BREXIT really made a difference, and if so, what do we expect to see for the remainder of the year, if it is Brexit, the expect August to be down, and September to be a stagnant month and then down again in October, if it is just a blip, then there is nothing to worry about.

Carlos Ghosn has stuck his nose in and made it clear that any further investment into the UK is dependant on future stability, well, comments like that won't do any good, and considering that the UK's Nissan plant is one of the most productive and best within the company, we expect that there is more than meets the eye, and personally i expect him to be "demanding" cash incentives to keep the plant in the UK, well, if they pull out, thats their loss, and it would be a huge impact on Nissan and it's quality and it may well, hurt sales in the UK, in the same way that BMW sales were dented when they dumped MG-Rover.

As usual, there are some brands that have outperformed the market, and this month, Vauxhall has really increased sales, and they have nothing new out yet, there will be the new Mokka X and Zafira Tourer both in full swing by the year end, MG has the GS which has already doing reasonable sales, and they are pinning the future of the brand on this car, it really is a make or break model, if this car fails, then the next step of moving into Europe will most certainly be on elongated hold.

Both Audi and Lexus took a battering in July, which in the case of Audi, is a really big surprise, Volkswagen, yes, they have current issues surrounding it's emissions scandal, so a near 10% dip is not a surprise, SEAT is a surprise, they have weathered the emissions very well, with no real issues, yet sales are down here too, they have a good range of products and with the new Ateca, sales should be growing.

Renault is a great brand that seems to manage regardless of the woes of other brands or the market as a whole, they have so many new models, either launched, about to launch or coming up over the next few months, so sales should keep ahead of the market for some considerable while yet, PSA have some great cars all ready to be launched, the New C3, 3008, A full range of commercial vehicles, Special Editions and more, so expect Peugeot to end the year up, and Citroen/DS to be significantly higher than at the same point last December.

Lastly for the month, our old favourites Jaguar Land Rover, well, the figures speak for themselves, huge gains, and more to come, the XE and F-Pace will being in massive sales whilst the XF, F-Type and XJ will carry on as before, the Discovery family will expand with the addition of the D5, and about time too, the current Discovery 4 is so long in the tooth now, that it deserves to be pensioned off to an old peoples home. the Evoque Cabrio will be a huge hit, just because it will be "the car" to be seen in, after half a million Evoques already built, this new model will boost it further, and expect the new Defender range to be "hinted" at by the year end.
