With the reduction in police car crime units, Classic car thefts have seen a significant rise.

IAATI UK conference to address knowledge gap and loss of specialist officers
The International Association of Auto Theft Investigators (IAATI) UK conference, on 8-9 June 2016 at Holywell Park in Loughborough, will focus on reversing the worrying recent increase in car crime and mitigating the loss of specialist police Stolen Vehicle Units (SVUs).

Justin Powell, IAATI UK President, said: “Vehicle thefts are already increasing and the inevitable result of cutting more SVUs will be a widening of the gaps in police knowledge and skills. In short, the wheels will come off.
“Whether we are talking about the targeting of modern classics, such as Ford Escorts and Land Rover Defenders, or tech-savvy criminals using electronic compromise to steal cars worth hundreds of thousands of pounds each, it usually involves organised criminal gangs.
“Vehicle crime, as well as being a problem in itself, is also a key enabler of other serious crimes, including terrorism. It is therefore imperative to keep up the pressure on these networks. IAATI promotes joined up thinking, a partnership approach, between law enforcement and the private sector, which is essential in tackling all areas of vehicle crime across the globe.”
Sponsored by, among others, Trade Vehicle Locks, Vehicle Provenance, Chronos Technology, Vodafone Automotive and Datatag, the 2016 IAATI National Vehicle Crime Conference will feature speakers from City of London Police, Jaguar Land Rover, Leicestershire Police, National Crime Agency, Port of Tilbury Police, Thatcham and West Midlands Police.
Subjects include: the evolution of vehicle crime, the current face of vehicle crime, keyless thefts, smuggling arms and drugs, cash for crash, GPS jammers and stealing cars for export.

Skoda's small car, the Fabia, takes up a new role in Law Enforcement.

The ŠKODA Fabia showcased its strengths as an emergency response vehicle at the National Association of Police Fleet Managers Conference (NAPFM) this week.
The 2015 What Car? Car of the Year, ŠKODA Fabia, has found a new vocation in law enforcement. ŠKODA showcased the Fabia as a fully liveried police car at the event in Telford. Now in its 42nd year, NAPFM is one of the largest emergency service fleet events in Europe and caters for police, fire and rescue and ambulance vehicles.

This was the first glimpse of Fabia in police livery since ŠKODA was reappointed as an approved Crown Commercial Services supplier. The new framework now includes ‘Lot 7’ emergency service vehicles.
Sitting in the beat car category, the ŠKODA Fabia certainly lives up to its recent billing as 'Best Small Car' at the 2015 Fleet News Awards. With a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, six airbags and an autonomous braking system as standard from SE, the Fabia provides proper protection for those who serve and protect us.
The model displayed, the Fabia Hatch 1.4 TDI 90PS SE, would perfectly suit the rigours of life on the street, with its 83.1mpg combined fuel consumption figure meaning it can theoretically remain on patrol for over 800 miles on a single tank.
Some 10 Fabia 1.4 TDI 90PS SE models were taken away from NAPFM this week by emergency services customers for extended three-month road tests. Speaking at the NAPFM Conference, ŠKODA Emergency Services Technical Sales Manager, Steven Cowell, said: “The ŠKODA Fabia is a reliable, robust and affordable vehicle loaded with technology, therefore ideal for use in the emergency services. Simply put, it's the perfect combination of form and function. The size and versatility of the Fabia also lends itself well to inner city duty."

Bentley holds European year end conference and awards its dealers for excellent service.

  • Annual dealer conference held in Barcelona
  • Best performing dealers awarded
  • New models drive sales success across Europe
Bentley Motors held its annual European dealer conference themed “Shaping the future of luxury performance” in Barcelona last week, reviewing the successful year and defining targets for 2015.

Bentley is set to continue its record breaking pattern, with 2014 on track to become the company’s most successful ever year. New models are driving this European success, with the Continental GT V8 S and Flying Spur V8 recently entering the market.

A strong German market continued helping Europe to post a sales increase of 7% in the first nine months of the year. 1,155 cars were delivered, in comparison to 1,081 cars in 2013.

Commenting on the outcome of the conference, Robert Engstler, Regional Director of Europe at Bentley, said: “Bentley Motors remains the most sought after luxury car brand in the world, and we see a great potential for further development in Europe.

Certain markets are tough, as other luxury car brands can testify, but with our three model lines delivering an unmatched blend of luxury and performance, alongside the high levels of dedication and professionalism from the dealers, we are at great starting point.”

The New Year will not only see Bentley’s pinnacle model, the Mulsanne Speed, arrive in Europe, but also a further expansion of the European dealer network. Openings in Dresden, Nuremberg, Milan, Zug and Basel will complement the European network that covers more than 50 dealer showrooms.

On the occasion of the conference, Bentley Motors awarded the best performing European dealers of 2014 in various business fields. Bentley Lugano was awarded for its excellent communication and marketing strategy, while Bentley Berlin received the trophy for its focus on customer satisfaction. In the sales and aftersales category, Bentley Hamburg and Frankfurt achieved outstanding results in 2014. Bentley Stuttgart was presented with the pre-owned trophy.
