The Skoda Fabia has tipped over half a million 3rd gen and 4 million fabia's in total.

  • 500,000th ŠKODA FABIA of current generation runs off production line at Mladá Boleslav plant today
  • Milestone vehicle is FABIA COMBI MONTE CARLO 1.0 TSI (81 kW) in moon-white
  • ŠKODA has produced four million FABIAs since 1999
ŠKODA has produced the 500,000th third-generation FABIA in Mladá Boleslav today. At the same time, the manufacturer is celebrating another milestone: the four millionth ŠKODA FABIA since the series debuted in 1999. The jubilee vehicle is a ŠKODA FABIA COMBI with a 1.0 TSI petrol engine and an automatic DSG transmission in moon-white.
With 91,400 deliveries in the first five months of 2017, the popular small car is currently ranked second on the ŠKODA bestseller list behind the OCTAVIA.
"Today, we can be doubly proud. 500,000 third-generation FABIAs built and four million FABIAs produced in total are powerful testimonies of ŠKODA’s high production quality," says Michael Oeljeklaus, ŠKODA Board Member for Production and Logistics. “Since 1999, the small car has been one of the key players in our model portfolio and has won over customers around the world.
Each of the three generations has characterised the development of the brand, featuring the latest technologies and exceptional space for outstanding value for money, complemented with attractive designs and superior technologies for safety and comfort. Now more than ever, the FABIA is a crucial driver of our dynamic growth."
Where it all began: the first ŠKODA FABIA – 1999 to 2007
Shortly before the turn of the millennium, the first ŠKODA FABIA celebrated its premiere at the IAA in Frankfurt in 1999. It was based on Volkswagen's A0 platform and, at that time, set standards in handling, safety and engine technology. As a typical ŠKODA, the FABIA scored with lots of space. At the Paris Motor Show in autumn 2000, the brand introduced the first ŠKODA FABIA COMBI. The ŠKODA FABIA RS made its debut in March 2003. Around 1,790,000 ŠKODA FABIAs of the first generation ran off the production line.
The second-generation ŠKODA FABIA - 2007 to 2014
The ŠKODA FABIA II entered the spotlight at the Geneva Motor Show. The second generation offered even more space with compact dimensions. ŠKODA expanded the engine range to include more efficient powertrains, and equipped the small car with new comfort and safety features.
ŠKODA first presented the FABIA COMBI in September 2007 at the IAA in Frankfurt. It set new standards in technology and functionality, and the amount of room also increased. The boot volume grew by 235 litres compared to its predecessor.
Rugged exterior with distinctive design elements – this is how ŠKODA presented the FABIA SCOUT, which was also available as an estate, in 2009. With the first ŠKODA FABIA MONTE CARLO, motorsport DNA entered the popular small car.
This model completed the model range in 2011, featuring a black roof, black alloy wheels, tinted rear and side windows and other expressive design elements. The production of the second-generation FABIA ended in June 2014 after approximately 1,710,000 cars.
All good things come in threes: ŠKODA FABIA III - 2014 to today
In 2014 the Czech manufacturer wrote another successful chapter in the history of this series with the third generation of the ŠKODA FABIA. To date, exactly 500,000 vehicles have left the production line. The FABIA III presents a sharp, dynamic and emotive design language.
The sporty proportions skilfully allude to ŠKODA’s successful rally cars. With its excellent space on offer for this vehicle class, and innovative safety, comfort and infotainment systems, the third ŠKODA FABIA sets the benchmark in the small car segment.
As a typical ŠKODA, the onboard equipment features many ‘Simply Clever’ details: the umbrella under the passenger seat, the ice scraper in the fuel cap, the multimedia bracket in the centre console, nets on the backs of the front seats, as well as hi-viz vests and bottle holders.
In early 2017, ŠKODA returned to the Geneva Motor Show. The ŠKODA FABIA received a 1.0-TSI three-cylinder for the first time, providing more power with lower fuel consumption.
The 70 kW (95 hp) and 81 kW (110 hp) powertrains replaced the 1.2-litre four-cylinder used previously. The revised small car is the first FABIA to feature the mobile online service ŠKODA Connect. With the advanced connectivity offer, FABIA drivers have the option of always being online.
ŠKODA Connect includes the Care Connect services with assistance- and emergency-call functions. In addition, there are the online infotainment services, which include information on traffic, petrol stations, fuel prices and car parks.
At the same time, the new ŠKODA FABIA offers state-of-the-art safety systems, which have so far only been seen in higher vehicle segments. The model features front-wheel assist with integrated city emergency braking function, adaptive cruise control (ACC), multi-collision brake assist and fatigue detection. In addition, electronic tyre pressure monitoring comes as standard with all FABIA models.

Skoda has sold the 2 Millionth car in China, less that 3.5 years since the first million.

  • Milestone vehicle is a ŠKODA SUPERB Ambition with 1.4 TSI engine
  • ŠKODA OCTAVIA bestseller in China with more than a million delivered units
  • In 2017, ŠKODA is celebrating the tenth anniversary of its entry into the Chinese market
  • China is the largest single market for the Czech car manufacturer
  • Volkswagen, SAIC Motor Corporation Limited and ŠKODA AUTO agree an investment plan worth €2 billion for vehicles with alternative drive systems and several SUVs
ŠKODA has delivered its two-millionth vehicle in China. The milestone vehicle is a ŠKODA SUPERB with a 1.4 TSI engine in Polar White.
Werner Eichhorn, ŠKODA Board Member for Sales and Marketing, handed over the brand’s flagship to customer Li Hongan in Shanghai. China is the largest single market for the long-established Czech brand.
In 2017, ŠKODA is celebrating the tenth anniversary of its entry into the Chinese market.
“As our largest single market, China is an important pillar of the ŠKODA growth strategy,” said Werner Eichhorn, ŠKODA Board Member for Sales and Marketing.
“We are delighted that our ŠKODA model range is being so well received by Chinese consumers and that we have already been able to convince two million customers of the merits of our vehicles.
We intend to continue to press ahead with this successful development in the years to come. Our SUV campaign, which ŠKODA is now also launching in China, is expected to contribute to this,” added Eichhorn.
The development of ŠKODA in China is an unprecedented success story. The Czech manufacturer entered the Chinese market in 2007. Back then, ŠKODA began production of the OCTAVIA locally under the umbrella of SAIC Volkswagen.
In close collaboration with the Chinese joint venture partner, China became ŠKODA’s most important single market as early as 2010. After six years and three months, it had reached the milestone of the first million vehicles sold; it took a mere three and a half years to sell the second million.
As the bestseller, the ŠKODA OCTAVIA is at the top of the popularity scale. The two million vehicles sold in China included almost 1,107,000 of the ŠKODA OCTAVIA, more than 305,000 ŠKODA RAPIDs, nearly 268,000 of the ŠKODA SUPERB, over 251,000 ŠKODA FABIAs and around 69,000 of the ŠKODA YETI. Today, the brand is one of the established volume manufacturers in China. A total of six ŠKODA model ranges roll off the production line in China, i.e. the FABIA, RAPID, RAPID SPACEBACK, OCTAVIA, YETI and SUPERB. The KODIAQ, ŠKODA’s first large SUV, will be launched in the second quarter of 2017.
“KODIAQ represents an important step for ŠKODA in China. It is an entry of the brand into a completely new segment but it is also a start of a comprehensive SUV campaign. During this campaign ŠKODA will bring four SUVs for the Chinese market. We are very confident about this step and the first reactions show us that it is the right direction for the brand,” said Michael Arndt, Executive Director for Sales and Marketing at SAIC ŠKODA.
In 2016, ŠKODA delivered more than 300,000 vehicles in China for the first time – a record for the brand. With this, ŠKODA grew by 12.6 per cent in its largest single market compared to the previous year, clocking up sales of 317,100 vehicles (2015: 281,700 vehicles).
ŠKODA incorporates specific requirements and preferences of Chinese customers into the concept, design and features of newly developed models. With the SUV campaign, which is gathering pace with the launch of the KODIAQ, ŠKODA is transferring its expressive design into the SUV segment and emphasising the brand’s emotive power. The SUV campaign is an important pillar of the current ŠKODA strategy.
ŠKODA will further develop its position and increase its presence in the Chinese market in the future. During the state visit of the Chinese president Xi Jinping to the Czech Republic on 30th March 2016, Volkswagen, SAIC Motor Corporation Limited and ŠKODA AUTO signed a memorandum of understanding concerning a five-year investment plan worth €2 billion. The objective is to expand the current model range, for example by adding vehicles with alternative drive systems and several SUVs.

WHAT CAR AWARDS - Skoda takes three and another three price point wins, not bad going !

  • Kodiaq, Fabia Hatchback and Superb Estate all take category titles
  • All-new Kodiaq wins Best Large SUV for 2017
  • Fabia takes Small Car title for the third consecutive year
  • Superb wins back-to-back Estate car honours
  • Price Point wins for Citigo, Fabia Estate and Superb
  • Judges praise value for money, design and practicality
ŠKODA has kicked off 2017 with another remarkable haul of titles at the annual What Car? Awards. The all-new Kodiaq, Fabia Hatchback and Superb Estate all won their categories at the ceremony widely regarded as the ‘Oscars’ of the automotive world.
As in previous years, the event was attended by some of the biggest names in the industry. And, once again, it was ŠKODA that provided the biggest cheers of the night. The all-new Kodiaq headlined ŠKODA’s triple crown of awards, driving off with the coveted Best Large SUV 2017.
Commenting on the award, Steve Huntingford, What Car? Editor, said: “We had high expectations for the Czech brand’s first large SUV, and the Kodiaq doesn’t disappoint.
Our favourite model costs a little more than £28,000, and for that you get seven seats, four-wheel drive, a punchy 148bhp diesel engine and generous equipment levels. It’s simply a brilliant large SUV.”
Not to be outdone by the newest member of the ŠKODA family, the Fabia Hatchback continued its remarkable run of awards by clinching Best Small Car 2017. Crowned overall Car of the Year in 2015, the Fabia has retained its Best Small Car title for three years in a row – confirming it as one of the most complete superminis on the market.
“Over the past 12 months, we’ve seen plenty of new small cars come and go, but the Fabia still sits at the top of the pile.” said Steve Huntingford, What Car? Editor. “The Fabia not only feels agile and easy to drive in town, but is also more comfortable and refined at motorway speeds than many larger cars. Its solidly built interior and impressive array of safety kit just set it further apart from rivals. Throw in its interior features and outstanding practicality, and it’s a clear winner.”
Completing ŠKODA’s collection of 2017 titles was the Superb Estate, which took top honours in the Estate Car category. Like the Fabia, the Superb retained its crown – comfortably seeing off stiff competition.
Explaining the judge’s decision, Steve Huntingford, What Car? Editor said: “ŠKODA really has taken a lead in this class; the Superb retains the crown it won last year, and the Fabia isn’t far behind it. Practicality, performance, space, comfort and affordability are king here, and no car mixes all these things as phenomenally well as the Superb.”
ŠKODA was also awarded three price point wins on the night, with the Citigo winning best City Car for £8,000-£10,000, Fabia Estate named best Estate Car for less than £18,000 and the Superb gaining an award for best Executive Car for under £25,000.

Skoda celebrates teh 40th Anniversary of the Monte Carlo Rally with its new Fabia sporting the 1977 livery.

  • ŠKODA FABIA R5 to sport livery from winning ŠKODA 130 RS from 1977
  • Works team consists of three drivers at start of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC 2): Andreas Mikkelsen, Pontus Tidemand and Jan Kopecký
  • Tidemand drives for the works team in the WRC 2 in 2017, while the second works driver, Jan Kopecký, goes in hunt of a hat-trick of titles in the Czech Rally Championship
  • Michal Hrabánek: “The awareness of the brand’s outstanding motor racing history is the driving force behind our current motorsport activities”
When ŠKODA Motorsport lines up at this season’s Rally Monte Carlo, it will remember the brand’s legendary triumph at the same race 40 years ago.
The works team’s ŠKODA FABIA R5s will feature the same blue and red stripes as sported by the winning car from 1977 when it launches its title campaign at the opening round of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC 2).
Four decades ago, Václav Blahna (CZ) and his co-driver Lubislav Hlávka (CZ) won the class for cars with up to 1,300 cc with their ŠKODA 130 RS.

This shock success is one of the milestones in ŠKODA’s 116-year motorsport history, the crowning moment of which came in the form of the world championship title in 2016.
“ŠKODA is proud of its magnificent tradition in motorsport, and of such iconic racing cars as the ŠKODA 130 RS,” said ŠKODA Motorsport Director Michal Hrabánek. “For this reason, we are remembering the success of 40 years ago at the Rally Monte Carlo with a special livery for our ŠKODA FABIA R5. The awareness of the brand’s outstanding motor racing history is the driving force behind our current motorsport activities.
As well as our works drivers Pontus Tidemand and Jan Kopecký, Andreas Mikkelsen will also drive the ŠKODA FABIA R5 at the Rally Monte Carlo,” Hrabánek continued.
Experienced WRC driver Mikkelsen (N) will make a guest appearance for the ŠKODA works team. In doing so, he returns to his roots.
The 27-year-old Norwegian began his rise to the top with titles in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge in 2011 and 2012. Back then, he was victorious in a ŠKODA FABIA SUPER 2000. Mikkelsen and co-driver Anders Jæger (N) familiarised themselves with the ŠKODA FABIA R5 at the first tests on snow last December.
ŠKODA Motorsport will once again put its faith in its two works drivers, Kopecký (CZ) and Tidemand (S), in 2017. As well as at the Rally Monte Carlo, the rapid Swede and his co-driver Jonas Andersson (S) will also go in pursuit of points at the second round of the world championship, which takes place in his native Sweden (9 to 12 February).
Tidemand/Andersson have their sights set on succeeding Esapekka Lappi/Janne Ferm (FIN/FIN), who, at the wheel of the ŠKODA FABIA R5, won the Drivers’ and Co-Drivers’ title in the WRC 2 class of the world championship for the manufacturer from Mladá Boleslav for the first time in 2016.
As well as a number of starts in WRC 2, Jan Kopecký and Pavel Dresler will primarily be competing in the Czech Rally Championship (MČR) in 2017. They remain unbeaten in the ŠKODA FABIA R5 in the Czech Republic, having won ten out of ten races in the last two years, and are out to complete a hat-trick of titles in 2017.
With the world championship title, three continental titles, and ten national titles in the FABIA R5, ŠKODA enjoyed one of its best years on the rally routes of this world in 2016. Hopes are high that the Rally Monte Carlo will mark the start of an equally successful 2017.

ŠKODA scoops four key awards in the 2017 CarBuyer Awards.

  • ŠKODA scoops four key awards in the 2017 CarBuyer Awards
  • Citigo, Fabia, Yeti and Superb Estate all named best in category
  • Citigo repeats its Best First Car title for a second year
  • ŠKODA models praised for value, equipment and intelligent design
ŠKODA’s remarkable awards collection has been added to once again with no fewer than four new titles. The Citigo, Fabia, Yeti and Superb have all been named as the best in class by CarBuyer – one of the UK’s most respected online motoring websites.
Unlike many industry awards, CarBuyer avoids the jargon that comes with traditional sectors and categories, concentrating instead on the kind of criteria that real-world motorists use when buying a car.
The Citigo was named Best First Car for the second year running, confirming its status as one of the most affordable and easy to drive small cars in the business.
Commenting on the award, CarBuyer Editor Stuart Milne said: “With prices starting at less than £8,300 and a range of stunning finance deals, it’s great value to buy, and with 68.9mpg fuel economy possible and insurance groups as low as 1E, its running costs are among the lowest in the business.”
Not to be outdone by its smaller sibling, the Fabia saw off strong competition to be named Best Small Car. The CarBuyer judges praised the supermini’s refinement and high equipment levels, and commended its wide range of engine options.
“Practicality, value for money and reliability are essential ingredients for today’s small-car buyer, and with those factors in mind, you simply can’t do better than the Skoda Fabia. Interior space is remarkable, with a 330-litre boot and plenty of head and legroom for four or five passengers” commented CarBuyer Editor, Stuart Milne.
In what was ŠKODA’s most successful CarBuyer Awards to date, the Yeti was also honoured – driving off with the ‘Best Car for Under £150 a Month’ title. Explaining the decision, CarBuyer Editor Stuart Milne said: “The ŠKODA Yeti is one of our favourite small SUVs thanks to its superb build quality, efficient engines and engaging driving experience. So it’s all the more remarkable that you can park a Yeti outside your house for less than £150 a month on a Personal Contract Purchase (PCP).”
Completing SKODA’s remarkable haul of titles, the Superb Estate was named Best Estate Car. The judges praised the Superb’s exceptional 660 litre boot and welcomed the attention to detail that marks the Estate model out from its sector competitors.
CarBuyer Editor Stuart Milne added: “The best estate cars offer more than just plenty of space for your luggage. They provide well thought-out solutions to all kinds of everyday problems. No car does this better than the Superb Estate. Umbrellas in the doors and grippy cup-holders that allow you to unscrew bottles one-handed all contribute to making this such a brilliant car.”

Fifteen years ago, vRS badges were added to the Fabia and Octavia, today, they account for a large %age of sales.

  • ŠKODA celebrates 15th anniversary of the first vRS model in the UK
  • Highly successful performance badge builds on SKODA’s sporting heritage
  • Three generations of Octavia vRS - now with the biggest range ever
  • Landmark cars including diesel-powered Fabia vRS - a sector first
  • Octavia vRS set and still holds International Land Speed Record
ŠKODA’s rich sporting and performance history reaches a historic milestone in 2016 with the 15th anniversary of the vRS brand in the UK. Since the first Octavia vRS arrived in showrooms back in 2001, ŠKODA has continually developed the vRS range; adding more power, performance and excitement to cars wearing the famous three letter badge.
Octavia vRS Mk1 (2001-2006)
The Mk1 Octavia vRS was the first modern-era ŠKODA to enter the fiercely competitive performance car market. Perfectly showcasing the brand’s optimism, confidence and engineering skills, the Octavia was powered by a 180PS, 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine, the Mk1 Octavia vRS delivered numerous firsts for the brand. Not only was it the most powerful production ŠKODA ever produced, it was also the fastest (146mph Hatch) and most expensive with a UK price tag of £15,535.

The first-generation Octavia vRS proved an instant hit with car buyers and the world’s motoring media alike. While it broke a price barrier for the brand, its high equipment levels meant that no rival could match the Octavia vRS for sheer value and entertainment.
Fabia vRS Mk1 (2003-2007)
ŠKODA’s passion for ripping up the performance car rulebook took another leap forward in 2003 with the introduction of the Fabia vRS. Powered by a 130PS, 1.9-litre turbodiesel engine, the Fabia defied convention and proved that flexibility and a colossal torque output (310Nm) was more than a match for a peaky, high-revving petrol engine.

It returned up to 53.3mpg and came loaded with standard equipment which made it one of the most competitive and engaging packages in the sector.
Fabia vRS Mk2 (2010-2013)
With both first-generation vRS models proving a huge hit with buyers, ŠKODA packed more power, excitement and value into their replacements.

The Mk2 Fabia vRS offered more innovation in the form of a twin-charged 180PS, 1.4-litre TSI engine and paddle-shift DSG transmission.
Octavia vRS Mk2 (2005-2013)
For the first time, the Octavia vRS was developed as a small range of its own – confirming ŠKODA’s commitment to the badge. Built on an all-new platform it displayed a smoother, more refined appearance. Powered by a new 2.0-litre TSI engine linked to a six-speed manual transmission, it became the first production ŠKODA to offer an output of 200PS.

To showcase the remarkable performance potential of the Octavia vRS, and celebrate the tenth anniversary of the vRS badge in the UK, ŠKODA UK made headlines around the world in 2011 when it attempted to break a land speed record at the famous Bonneville Salt Flats in the USA.
Built from a standard petrol-powered Octavia vRS by a team of ŠKODA UK engineers, the Bonneville special smashed the previous record for a 2.0-litre forced induction production car. At 07:45 on Friday 19 August, it registered an official record speed of 227.080mph – a record that still stands today.
Octavia vRS Mk3 (2013-present)
2013 saw ŠKODA refocus its vRS line-up, opting to build a broader Octavia vRS line-up with greater options for buyers. As a result, the third-generation Octavia vRS has the largest range ever with three engine options, two body styles and the option of four-wheel-drive.

Petrol versions are powered by a 2.0 TSI engine available with outputs of 220PS and 230PS, while diesel variants feature a 2.0 TDI with an output of 184PS. Paddle-shift DSG transmissions are available across the vRS range, while the diesel variant can be specified with ŠKODA’s advanced all-wheel system.
Building the brand’s sporting credentials
Although the vRS badge is celebrating its 15th year in the UK, ŠKODA’s sporting and performance car heritage dates back to the days before founders Vaclav Laurin and Vaclav Klement even started work on their first car.
Neither were convinced of the benefits of building sporting versions of their bicycles and motorbikes, and were even less thrilled by the idea of competition, a series of famous racing victories led to full order books and global recognition. The achievements of their products set L&K, and what would become ŠKODA, onto a course that would deliver some of the most engaging and successful road and competition cars of their era.
The brand’s first road-going performance car – the 1937 Popular Sport Monte Carlo – set a template for affordable but exquisitely engineered fun. Advanced prototypes such as the 1974 180RS and 200RS kept the spirit of performance and provided ŠKODA with countless race wins and championship titles in both circuit racing and rallying.
Today, ŠKODA’s love of performance is stronger than ever. In addition to the growing range of vRS models, the brand continues as a force to be reckoned with in motorsport. The Fabia S2000 was the most successful rally car in its class – taking more than 65 European and international rally wins – while the current Fabia R5 is proving equally dominant in world rallying’s WRC2 category.
vRS Facts
1.    20% of all Octavias sold in the UK are vRS badged.
2.    Almost 50,000 SKODA vRS models have been sold in the UK since the range was launched in 2001; 39% of which were Fabia models.
