The new Super Subaru to attempt a record run at the Nurburgring and up the goodwood hill.

The WRX STI Type RA NBR Special is set to make its public debut and take on Goodwood’s famous Hill Climb at the Festival of Speed.

The RA designation stands for “Record Attempt” and has been applied to various Subaru performance models. The original venture took place in 1989 when a competition version Subaru Legacy broke the FIA World Speed Endurance Record by clocking over 62,000 miles in 18 days and set a top speed record of 138 mph.

Furthering this spirit of endeavour, a race prepared WRX STI Type RA NBR Special will attempt a Nürburgring speed record this summer after its runs up the Goodwood Hill Climb in the Time Attack Open class and will be driven by rally and stunt driver Mark Higgins.

Mark recently drove a WRX STI down St Moritz’s Olympic Bobsled run, and set the lap record at the Isle of Mann TT in 2016.

Subaru will also be at the Moving Motor Show on Thursday, with cars available for visitors to try up the Hill Climb.

Adrian Flux Subaru Racing will also be in attendance on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd July with Ash Sutton, Josh Price and James Cole for a meet and greet on the Subaru Stand at the Moving Motor Show at 11:00 and 16:00. 

Rolls ROyce enjoys a hugely successful event with Goodwood's famous hillclimb showcasing teh Wraiths Speed.

Rolls-Royce celebrated a successful Goodwood Festival of Speed over the weekend, with a stunning ascent of the famous Goodwood Hillclimb, defying challenging weather conditions.

The highlights:

Wraith Black Badge. The most powerful and dynamic Rolls-Royce in history, Wraith Black Badge effortlessly ascended the Hillclimb during the Supercar Shootout, placing it ahead of entrants from McLaren, Aston Martin and Ferrari, amongst others. Wraith completed the 1.16-mile course in 65.05 seconds and recorded a speed of 94.8mph as the car crossed the finish line, proving that it is not necessary to sacrifice luxury for speed. Wraith was driven by Festival of Speed favourite, Justin Law.

Ghost Black Badge. The Course Car this year was a Rolls-Royce Ghost Black Badge, resplendent with LED race lights and Goodwood decals. The car was seen at speed between each Hillclimb Run throughout the weekend.

In addition to Wraith Black Badge and Ghost Black Badge, invited VIP guests were conveyed in luxury from the Home of Rolls-Royce on the south-eastern corner of the Goodwood Estate in a beautiful fleet of Bespoke Rolls-Royce motor cars.

GOODWOOD - Lord March takes the BMW i8 up the Hill Climb to open this year Motoring Event.

This year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed has kicked off in style, with Lord March completing the very first run of the weekend up the famous 1.16-mile hillclimb course in a BMW i8.

BMW is this year’s Honoured Marque and is celebrating its centenary at the event, with displays showcasing its storied M Sport performance range, as well as looking forward to its next 100 years with a focus on its electric offerings in the i range of products.

The first run being completed in the futuristic, all-electric i8 fits perfectly with BMW’s theme examining the future of mobility.

Meanwhile, visitors have been pouring into the beautiful Goodwood Estate despite the murky weather to see nearly 30 brand new cars make some form of debut at today’s Moving Motor Show, part of the newly-introduced Press & Preview Day.

Today’s Moving Motor Show allows visitors to get up close and personal with some of the most exciting new cars – some of which have not even gone on sale yet.

It also provides a sneak preview of all of the main Festival of Speed show content, including the Michelin Supercar Paddock, Cartier Style et Luxe Concours d’Elegance, Goodwood Aviation Exhibition, the spectacular motorcycle stunts of the GAS Arena and the amazing cars that will be sold in the Bonhams Auction.

GOODWOOD - Rolls Royce continues to suply the course car as well as two new special "Black Badge" Editions.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars will celebrate the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed with a dark and edgy presence on the famous Hillclimb. Wraith Black Badge and Ghost Black Badge will be on familiar turf, with Goodwood House in sight of the Home of Rolls-Royce.

Wraith Black Badge. 

Wraith Black Badge can be seen on the Supercar Run up the hill and in between Hillclimbs in the Supercar Paddock. Already the most powerful Rolls-Royce in the world at 624hp (465kw), Wraith now benefits from 70Nm more torque, tweaked air suspension and upgraded gearbox leading to more spirited driving. 

The car presented is finished in Black Badge Black, with the interior in Black and Mugello Red contrast leather, and the facia in aerospace-grade aluminium-threaded carbon fibre composite surfacing. Wraith Black Badge will be driven by Festival of Speed favourite, Justin Law. 

Ghost Black Badge. 

The Rolls-Royce Course Car this year will be a Ghost Black Badge. The car is finished in Black Badge Black, with the interior in Black and Cobalto Blue contrast leather and the facia in aerospace-grade aluminium-threaded carbon fibre composite surfacing. 

Ghost Black Badge benefits from a power increase of 40hp (30kw) to 603hp (450kw) and torque increase of 60Nm compared to current Ghost, whilst upgrades to the 8-speed automatic transmission give Ghost Black Badge an added sense of urgency in how it delivers its power. 

The Rolls-Royce Course Car will be driven by a team from Rolls-Royce Motor Cars and can be seen on the course between each Hillclimb Run throughout the weekend.

Both cars were built specifically for the event and feature a Spirit of Ecstasy in high-gloss black vamp, Double R badges inverted to become silver on black and black starlight headliner. Surfaces that are traditionally chrome have turned dark, such as the front grille surround, boot lid finisher, lower air inlet finisher and exhaust pipes. 

The Black Badge ‘Unlimited’ infinity logo is embroidered on the upholstery and both cars are shod with 21” Carbon Alloy Composite Wheels.

GOODWOOD - McLaren to debut the new Sport Series 570S Sprint, which will take on the world famous Hill Climb.

The recently-announced McLaren 570S Sprint will make both static and dynamic global debuts at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed as part of the largest presence by McLaren to date. 

The track-only model will thrill crowds on the famous Hill run and be on public display in the Supercar Paddock alongside the McLaren P1™ GTR, 650S Can-Am, 570S Coupé and the 675LT Coupé which only recently set the fastest ever time around the BBC Top Gear track. 

A second example of the 570S Sprint will be on private view for McLaren guests at its central location, adjacent to Goodwood House.

The 570S Sprint is the most track-focused model in the McLaren Sports Series line-up.  It has been conceived purely for owners to enjoy on the track and without the restrictions of any race series. 

Power and torque levels have been optimised to ensure the ultimate levels of driver engagement and the best levels of noise, too, as visitors to Goodwood will soon hear. 

Below the skin, the 570S Sprint is built around the carbon fibre MonoCell II chassis shared with all Sports Series models, and also features the familiar mid-mounted 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 engine and seven speed SSG transmission.

The 570S Sprint features enhanced cooling via a front centre GT3-inspired high temp radiator, along with a more aggressive front splitter and floor assembly as premiered on the 570S GT4. As standard, the 570S Sprint is filled with New Life™ 0W-40 engine oil, developed by McLaren Automotive technology partner Mobil 1.

Based on the aerodynamic ‘shrink-wrapped’ design of the 570S Coupé, the 570S Sprint features an air piercing front bumper which separates the airflow above, below and through the bodywork, while the intricate design of the ‘floating’ door tendons channel air into the side-mounted radiators. 

The elegant flying buttresses are also retained. An additional aerodynamic upgrade which includes a large carbon fibre fixed rear wing and front dive planes, brings the highest level of downforce yet seen on any model in the Sports Series.

Centre-locking lightweight cast magnesium wheels shod with Pirelli racing slicks are fitted as standard, while the double wishbones and anti-roll bars front and rear are shared with the suspension system seen on the 570S Coupé. An optional motorsport air jacking system to aid wheel changes is also available.

Inside the stripped out, driver-focused cabin, an FIA-approved rollcage adds further protection to the lightweight carbon fibre MonoCell II chassis. The FIA-approved flat back driver, and optional passenger, seat are fitted with a six-point racing harness, and a fire extinguisher system is also installed as standard.

While the 570S Sprint is not homologated for any race series, a GT4 compliance pack is available as a further upgrade for the 570S Sprint. Having been developed in parallel to the 570S GT4 – currently completing its final testing phase in the live race environment of the British GT championship – the package includes all items required to meet the FIA standards for GT4 competition.

Finished in McLaren Orange as standard, the 570S Sprint can be optioned with any of the colour palette available on the Sports Series, along with a unique range of liveries through MSO Defined. Deliveries will commence in 2017 and pricing starts from £148,000 ex. works (local market pricing applies).

GOODWOOD - Iconic performance brand Subaru will make its debut at the Goodwood Moving Motor Show.

Iconic performance brand Subaru will make its debut at the Goodwood Moving Motor Show on Thursday, June 23. Visitors to the Moving Motor Show, part of the newly-introduced Press & Preview Day, will be able to book themselves into the driving seats of Subaru’s BRZ 2.0L SE LUX, Levorg 1.6 GT Lineartronic and WRX STi models.

The brand will then feature some of its latest models on the stand for the duration of the main Festival of Speed weekend (June 24-26).

Subaru’s debut at the Moving Motor Show, introduced in 2010 by Goodwood to give enthusiasts a ‘sneak preview’ of the main Festival of Speed content plus the chance to drive some of the most exciting new cars, coincides the brand’s entrance to top-class touring car racing in this season’s British Touring Car Championship with the Silverline Subaru BMR Racing team.

As well as featuring the three Moving Motor Show models, Subaru will also have one of the BTCC Levorgs on its stand.

From Friday-Sunday, Festival-goers will be able to see Jason Plato in action on the hill in a BTCC Levorg, as well as Mark Higgins in the astonishing WRX STI in which he set a new four-wheeled lap record at the Isle of Man TT course last month.

"The Goodwood Festival of the Speed is one of the most important motoring events in the calendar, and we’re looking forward to seeing Subaru’s trio of performance-oriented cars perform on the famous hillclimb,” explains Subaru UK Managing Director Paul Tunnicliffe.

“These Subaru models demonstrate the diverse range of performance cars we offer to enthusiastic drivers here in the UK, complementing our range of 'go anywhere' all wheel drive vehicles. Our performance cars will be on display all weekend along with BMR Racing's Subaru Levorg, which is the ultimate expression of this.”

Visitors to Thursday’s event – expected to attract more than last year’s record 35,000 visitors – are advised to get to the Subaru stand in the Moving Motor Show Pavilion early, as the number of slots to drive the brand’s cars that are not already pre-booked will be limited.

GOODWOOD - Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio makes UK debut at Goodwood along with the rest of the range.

Alfa Romeo will be demonstrating the full power of the marque when the Italian brand debuts the all-new Alfa Romeo Giulia in the UK for the first time at the Goodwood Festival of Speed (23 - 26 June) alongside some of the greatest racing vehicles in its illustrious history.

Those attending the event will be the first in the UK to see and hear the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio in action, when its advanced all-new, 510hp, turbo-charged V6 is unleashed on the famous Goodwood hillclimb, while the media are invited to attend an exclusive press conference at 10:00 on June 23 at the Alfa Romeo stand  where the UK pricing for Alfa Romeo’s new super saloon will be announced for the first time.

Also on display will be the rest of the Alfa Romeo range, including the new Alfa Romeo MiTo and new Alfa Romeo Giulietta, both of which now adopt the styling cues of the Alfa Romeo Giulia, include new ‘Giulia inspired’ honeycomb grilles, interior and exterior upgrades, new badging and new alloy wheel designs.

A snapshot of Alfa Romeo’s legendary motorsport heritage and lineage will also be on display at the Festival, with an Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm, Alfa Romeo 33/3 Le Mans Spider (static only), and an Alfa Romeo 33 TT 12 making the pilgrimage from the Museo Storico Alfa Romeo in Italy to take on the Goodwood Hillclimb. In addition, an original 1963 Giulia TI Super will be shown alongside its brand new namesake on the Alfa Romeo stand.

Completing the Alfa Romeo line up on the stand will be one of only 50 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Limited Editions, which have been specially created to pay homage to 50 years of the Alfa Romeo Spider.

Alfa Romeo Giulia TI Super (1963)

The revolutionary and ground-breaking Giulia saloon debuted in 1962. The advertising claim "designed by the wind" was inspired by the Giulia's outstanding drag coefficient of 0.34, which would still be competitive on today's market. This sports saloon became the backbone of Alfa Romeo's line-up, as well as a production link between the company's Portello and Arese plants.

The Giulia was the first mass-produced car with a five-speed transmission and one of the first with a differentiated body structure: in the event of a collision, the passenger compartment held its shape, ensuring greater passenger safety.

The Giulia's 1600 four-cylinder engine differed from the Millenove in terms of displacement and construction materials. It had a crankcase made of aluminium rather than cast iron and was essentially derived from the Giulia Milletrè (launched in 1954) making it an extremely sophisticated and high-performance engine with long durability.

The exceptional dynamics and design features of the Giulia, in its various guises, garnered incredible results in races. The Giulia TI Super, launched in 1963 (112hp and 190 km/h) is the rarest and most prestigious Giulia variant. Only 501 of this ready-to-race version were produced, almost all of them in Biancospino White, with the Quadrifoglio emblem on the side panels and bootlid and with bodywork streamlined to further improve its already excellent performance.

The TI Super nurtured a generation of racing drivers who eventually graduated to higher formulas, having put themselves in the spotlight with victories achieved behind the wheel of the Alfa Romeo saloon. The Giulia TI Super is particularly suited to road races, as it proved by memorably winning its category in the 1963 Tour de France Auto.

Alfa Romeo 1750 GT Am (1970)

Four round headlamps; a raised and aggressive profile and bulging wheel arches: there’s no mistaking the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA for anything else. The version on show at Goodwood this is year is the GT Am, derived from fuel-injected Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV which was sold in the United States. Only 40 of the GT Am racers were ever built, powered by a 240hp 2.0-litre engine (max power at 7,500rpm) with a mechanical fuel injection system either by Spica or Lucas.

Due to an increase in minimum weight requirements, the body was made of steel with plastic side and rear panels and in 1970 it won the European Touring Car Championship with the Dutchman Toine Hezemans and in 1971 it also won the constructor’s title. Drivers of the calibre of Hezemans, Andrea de Adamich, Carlo Facetti and Nino Vaccarella maximised the car's potential, challenging much more powerful cars like the BMW CSL, 3.0-litre Ford Capri and 5.0-litre Chevrolet. Indeed, at the end of the 24 Hours of Spa in 1970, three Alfa Romeo GT Am racers were positioned behind a BMW Alpina 3.0-litre in second, third and fourth place.

Alfa Romeo 33/3 Le Mans (1970)

Evolved from the 2.0-litre V8 in the Alfa Romeo 33/2, the engine that powers the 33/3 is a fuel-injected, 2,998cc V8 with four-valves per cylinder which produced an impressive 400hp at 8000 rpm and capable of propelling the six-speed 33/3 to 330 km/h. With bodywork formed from lightweight aluminium and titanium panels, the 33/3 was light and agile enough to compete with 5.0-litre  competitor vehicles and in 1971 won several significant endurance races, including the Targa Florio with Vaccarella and Hezemans behind the wheel.

Alfa Romeo 33 TT 12

On May 5 1973, during the height of popularity of the World Sportcar Championship, the Alfa Romeo 33 TT 12 made its debut at the “1000 km of Spa-Francorhamps", lining up alongside some of the most prestigious competitors of the day. Part of the "33" family first seen in 1967, the TT (Telaio Tubolare or tubular chassis) was derived from the previous V8-powered 33 TT3 but was now powered by a monster 3.0-litre, 12-cylinder boxer engine with an output of over 500hp and a top speed of 330km/h. Clothed in an unusual aerodynamic body, its unmistakable appearance was characterized by two side fins, a huge air intake and a "periscope" rear view mirror.

1973 was dedicated to the development of the new prototype sports car and by 1974 the 33 TT 12 had started to show its potential. But 1975 was the golden year: the best drivers of the era helped the cars dominate seven of the eight races on the calendar, thus winning the coveted World Sportscar Championship, the fourth overall win for Alfa Romeo. Incredible names like Andretti, Bell, Brambilla, Ickx, Lafitte, Mass, Merzario, Pescarolo, Scheckter, Stommellen and Vaccarella are all "heroes" of the 33 TT 12.

Museo Storico Alfa Romeo

Borrowed from Alfa Romeo’s incredible heritage collection, these vehicles are often on display at the recently-reopened Alfa Romeo museum in Arese, Milan. Completely refurbished, the museum has more than 70 of the collection’s 250-plus cars on display at any given time (69 of the most significant pieces in Alfa Romeo’s historic collection within the museum plus various temporary exhibitions), grouped together in sections title “Timeline”, “Beauty” and “Speed”. Since opening on June 24^th 2015, the museum has already had more than 100,000 visitors from all over the world. GOODWOOD - Mercedes-AMG will have an amazing selection of cars from 1906 upto todays supercars.

Mercedes-Benz is fully embracing this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed theme ‘Full Throttle: The Endless Pursuit of Power’ with the public debut of its latest model, the Mercedes-AMG GT R.

The GT R will be unveiled to the world’s media at Mercedes-Benz World at Brooklands on Friday, before being transported to the Goodwood Festival of Speed for its public debut on Saturday 25^th June, where it will be both on the Mercedes-Benz stand and also making its way up the famous hill.

The MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS F1 Team will be bringing the F1 W05 Hybrid, for debut on the Goodwood hill. The F1 W05 Hybrid is the car in which Lewis Hamilton gained his second World Drivers’ Championship in 2014, and which also secured the first ever Formula One World Constructors’ Championship in the history of Mercedes-Benz.

Also being driven up the hill will be the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Edition 1 Coupé – unmistakable thanks to its striking yellow decals – and the luxurious yet brutally fast Mercedes-AMG S 63 Cabriolet.

Making their UK debuts on the Mercedes-Benz stand are the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 Cabriolet and E 43 Saloon, alongside the SLC 43, SL 63 and S 500 Cabriolet.

The Mercedes-Benz Classic team will be represented by a number of vehicles. The oldest is the Mercedes 120 hp racing car of 1906. This 110-year-old is one of the most significant racing cars of its era, with numerous victories across Europe (including first and second places in the opening race at Brooklands). The 120 hp will be heading up the hill, as will the iconic Mercedes-Benz 540 K Streamliner of 1938.

Also in the Goodwood line-up is the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLS of 1957 – the car in which Paul O’Shea won the American Sports Car Championship – having won in 1955 and 1956 in a 300 SL.

The intervening years up to the present day are represented by a 280 E (W123) rally car from 1977; a Sauber-Mercedes C 9 Group C racing car from 1988; a Mercedes-Benz 1834 S racing truck of 1996; and a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 customer sports racing car.

Of course, the Festival of Speed is about more than the vehicles alone, and a number of Mercedes-Benz Classic brand ambassadors will be driving, including: Roland Asch; Ellen Lohr; Klaus Ludwig; Jochen Mass; and Susie Wolff.

Now in its 23rd year, the Goodwood Festival of Speed was started in 1993 by Charles Gordon-Lennox, Earl of March and Kinrara, and is widely considered one of the most important motoring events of the year. The organisers are once again this year expecting more than 150,000 visitors from all over the world. The 2016 Festival runs from 23-26 June.
