GOODWOOD - Mercedes-AMG will have an amazing selection of cars from 1906 upto todays supercars.

• New Mercedes-AMG GT R to make public debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend
• MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS F1 Team will be bringing the 2014 F1 W05 Hybrid for its Goodwood debut
• Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Edition 1 Coupé and S 63 Cabriolet to be driven up the hill – as well as historic Mercedes-Benz race cars
• Displays of the latest Mercedes-Benz models as well as significant models from the company’s 130-year history

Mercedes-Benz is fully embracing this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed theme ‘Full Throttle: The Endless Pursuit of Power’ with the public debut of its latest model, the Mercedes-AMG GT R.

The GT R will be unveiled to the world’s media at Mercedes-Benz World at Brooklands on Friday, before being transported to the Goodwood Festival of Speed for its public debut on Saturday 25^th June, where it will be both on the Mercedes-Benz stand and also making its way up the famous hill.

The MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS F1 Team will be bringing the F1 W05 Hybrid, for debut on the Goodwood hill. The F1 W05 Hybrid is the car in which Lewis Hamilton gained his second World Drivers’ Championship in 2014, and which also secured the first ever Formula One World Constructors’ Championship in the history of Mercedes-Benz.

Also being driven up the hill will be the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Edition 1 Coupé – unmistakable thanks to its striking yellow decals – and the luxurious yet brutally fast Mercedes-AMG S 63 Cabriolet.

Making their UK debuts on the Mercedes-Benz stand are the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 Cabriolet and E 43 Saloon, alongside the SLC 43, SL 63 and S 500 Cabriolet.

The Mercedes-Benz Classic team will be represented by a number of vehicles. The oldest is the Mercedes 120 hp racing car of 1906. This 110-year-old is one of the most significant racing cars of its era, with numerous victories across Europe (including first and second places in the opening race at Brooklands). The 120 hp will be heading up the hill, as will the iconic Mercedes-Benz 540 K Streamliner of 1938.

Also in the Goodwood line-up is the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLS of 1957 – the car in which Paul O’Shea won the American Sports Car Championship – having won in 1955 and 1956 in a 300 SL.

The intervening years up to the present day are represented by a 280 E (W123) rally car from 1977; a Sauber-Mercedes C 9 Group C racing car from 1988; a Mercedes-Benz 1834 S racing truck of 1996; and a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 customer sports racing car.

Of course, the Festival of Speed is about more than the vehicles alone, and a number of Mercedes-Benz Classic brand ambassadors will be driving, including: Roland Asch; Ellen Lohr; Klaus Ludwig; Jochen Mass; and Susie Wolff.

Now in its 23rd year, the Goodwood Festival of Speed was started in 1993 by Charles Gordon-Lennox, Earl of March and Kinrara, and is widely considered one of the most important motoring events of the year. The organisers are once again this year expecting more than 150,000 visitors from all over the world. The 2016 Festival runs from 23-26 June.

Mercedes-Benz is set to be leading marque at the 21^st Goodwood Festival of Speed between June 26 and 29 – celebrating some of the greatest cars both on the road and track, the most skilled, passionate and dedicated drivers to have steered them to victory and a commitment to motorsport, spanning 120 years.

The Central Feature – a sculpture created by Goodwood’s artistic genius, Gerry Judah – the over-arching theme of which will be Mercedes-Benz, is guaranteed to be the most dramatic yet and will be officially launched on the evening of the Moving Motor Show, Thursday, June 26.

The on-track action will be led by Lewis Hamilton as he lights up the tyres of his MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One machine as he takes to the 1.16-mile Goodwood Hill on Sunday. He’ll be joined by iconic cars spanning a century – from the Mercedes Grand Prix racing car that formed part of the trio that scored a one-two-three at the French Grand Prix in 1914 – to the beautiful and brutal W 125 and W 165 Silver Arrows.

Among the rarest of the cars to be taking on the Hill with be a 300 SLS from 1957, joined by the wide-arch eccentricity of a 500 SL rally car from 1981.

Some of the most focused and successful racing machines ever built will also be present, from the Sauber-Mercedes C 9 to the Penske-Mercedes PC 23 IndyCar from 1994 and the CLK-LM from 1998. Adding a modern twist will be an SLS AMG GT3 racer along with the DTM Mercedes AMG C-Class Coupé and roadgoing siblings in the most extreme AMG yet, the SLS AMG Black Series and the mightiest hot hatch of them all – the A 45 AMG.

On static display meanwhile will be the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo concept – first seen last year at the Los Angeles Motor Show and making its UK debut at Goodwood. Visitors to Goodwood will be able to drive the car virtually on the Goodwood Hill via the Sony PlayStation 3 and Gran Turismo 6.

The tech doesn’t end there – the Mercedes-Benz Exhibition will this year host a trio of Oculus Rift experiences. They will allow visitors to get closer than ever before to the feeling of going up the Goodwood Hill with special 360 degree footage being played through the virtual reality devices. Likewise, visitors will be able to lap Silverstone virtually in the current MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS F1 W05 Hybrid or to indulge in some drifting with Lewis Hamilton in an E 63 AMG S Estate.

Driving Mercedes-Benz racers and road cars for real at Goodwood will be a line-up of legendary drivers – from Roland Asch to Anthony Davidson and Dario Franchitti, Johnny Herbert and Silver Arrows driver Hans Herrmann, Klaus Ludwig and Jochen Mass, Sir Stirling Moss, Paul and Sir Jackie Stewart, Bernd Schneider and Karl Wendlinger.

The event promises to be a fitting celebration with more surprises and announcements to come as the Festival draws nearer.

MMMMMMM, Mercedes AMG F1 new engine for 2014

The MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team has given Formula One fans around the globe a unique insight into the future today on its official commercial YouTube channel.

To mark the team’s new status as a YouTube partner for the creation and broadcast of exclusive video content about the Silver Arrows team, MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS has offered fans the first taste of how the new 2014 Power Units will sound out on track.


The audio recording of the turbocharged V6 unit was conducted using a development engine at Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains (HPP) in Brixworth, UK.

This simulated lap of the Monza circuit – the definitive test of any Formula One powerplant – was then synced to a lap of the circuit at the team’s Driver-in-the-Loop simulator at team HQ in Brackley, UK.

The result is the most accurate impression so far of how the new Power Units will sound in 2014, with a maximum rev limit of 15,000 rpm and a single turbocharger spinning at speeds of up to 125,000 rpm.

Mercedes AMG Petronas preview of Shanghai Grand Prix

• The Formula One season resumes next week with the third round, the 2013 UBS Chinese Grand Prix, taking place at the 5.451 km Shanghai International Circuit, located 40 kms outside of the city. This year’s race will be the 10th anniversary of the Chinese Grand Prix which made its debut during the 2004 season.
• 'Shanghai specialist' Nico has led 78 of a total of 168 laps (46%) in the past three years in China
• Nico and Lewis have won the last two Chinese Grands Prix in 2012 and 2011 respectively
• Mercedes-Benz is the most successful engine manufacturer in China, with four wins in the past five races
• Shanghai has a medium Safety Car risk, with deployments in one third of the nine races so far

I travel to China next week with very good memories from winning my first Formula One race in Shanghai last year, and having led the race there for the past three years. I enjoy the Shanghai track a great deal and I have a positive feeling going there with the car that we have at the moment. The team have been working very hard to develop our car since returning from Malaysia and I will be at the factory on Monday to complete my preparations in the simulator for the next two races. We’ve had a strong start to the season and I’m confident that we can keep pushing and hopefully score some good results in China and Bahrain.

I’m looking forward to getting to China next week and going racing again; it feels like a long time since Malaysia! My first two races with my new team have been a great experience and everyone has made me feel so welcome. We’ve had a better start than we expected and to have finished in fifth and third places so far is really positive. I know there is much more to come so we will keep working hard and pushing the development of the car. I’ll be at the factory this weekend and look forward to hearing about the work that’s gone on in the last couple of weeks and the upgrades that we will take to China.

The Chinese Grand Prix of course holds great memories following the first win for Nico and our Silver Arrows team in Shanghai last year. That win was an extremely proud occasion for us all and certainly one that we hope to emulate in the future. Our season has started well, perhaps better than we expected, however we’re fully aware that there is still a gap to close and that we must keep up the pace of development. A lot of hard work has taken place at our factories over the last two weeks to do just that and I look forward to seeing how that translates to track performance. The Chinese Grand Prix race is well established now in its tenth year and it’s an important market for both Formula One and Mercedes-Benz. The circuit itself is challenging with fast curves, tight corners and two hairpins. The layout requires good straightline speed, braking stability and traction, and the temperatures are likely to be cooler than we have experienced in the first two race weekends.

One year on from Nico’s win, a lot of people will be asking whether this is something our team can repeat in 2013. But like they say, yesterday’s home runs don’t win today’s games, and that’s definitely true for us. We start again from zero this year and need to work hard to adapt the car to suit the circuit and the tyre compounds we have available, in the conditions that we find on track next weekend. Then we will see where we stand relative to the competition. We have made a solid start to the season in the first two races with Nico and Lewis both performing at a very high and equal level. The development race will be critical this season so we have more new parts planned for China. Our aim has to be to improve on our good start to the season and continue scoring good points in both championships.
