Purpose

I will try my best to provide detailed info on various cars and what is like to live with them, I have already produced a few for Jaguar-car-forums, I will do my best to be unbiased, but it will be hard for some cars. I will re-produce press releases and copy from other motoring news.

GENEVA - Lexus wows with world debut of the LF-SA Concept.

World debut at the 2015 Geneva motor show
European debut for the Lexus GS F and LF-C2 roadster concept

The new Lexus LF-SA concept makes its world debut today at the 2015 Geneva motor show.

Last year marked the 25th anniversary of the very first Lexus, the LS400 saloon. To celebrate this milestone, Lexus challenged ED2, its European design studio, to create a concept of an ultra-compact (sub-B-segment) urban 2+2 model.
The LF-SA Concept explores unexpected territory for the brand in a powerful, emotional execution that illustrates Lexus’s passion for up-coming design trends.

The LF-SA Concept is also a driver-focused vehicle, reflecting Lexus’s vision that in a future world where technology and virtual experiences are expected to hold more sway, the real driving experience could become the ultimate luxury.
Taking that insight as inspiration, the new concept presents an audacious interpretation of Lexus’s L-finesse design philosophy, while never losing sight of the requirement for driving pleasure – a quality that will always be a defining element of Lexus’s progressive luxury.
The LF-SA Concept captures the freedom of weekend escapes in everyday city driving, exploring a future in which Lexus drivers will still be able to enjoy the real-life luxury of driving themselves, while at the same time benefiting from the last word in on-board connectivity, infotainment and safety.
Even the colour scheme reflects a spirit of adventure: the Stellar Silver exterior finish is a reference to space exploration and the interior is inspired by the spectacle of a solar eclipse.
Exterior design
The Lexus designers were able to keep the LF-SA Concept’s exterior dimensions down to a neat 3,400mm long, 1,700mm wide and 1,430mm high, the kind of compact packaging that is essential for genuine city car manoeuvrability and agility.

The highly sculpted surfacing is the result of a more challenging, Time in Design styling approach, in which perceptions of the vehicle change when it is viewed from different angles.
The latest expression of the Lexus spindle grille sees an angular pattern radiating from the central Lexus emblem, developing from a two-dimensional graphic to a powerful three-dimensional form that strongly influences the front wings and side bodywork, reinforcing the car’s wide, planted stance.
Powerful undercutting above the wheel arches, particularly at the rear, emphasises the contrast between the concave and convex surfaces, giving the design its specific proportions and amplifying the sense of dynamism and forward motion.
The spindle grille shape is clearly referenced in the angular, double-stepped rear styling, which incorporates L-shaped lamp clusters in a flying buttress design. Further Lexus signatures, such as the arrowhead motif, are evident throughout, for example in the design of the daytime running lights.
Interior design
Despite its very compact exterior dimensions, the LF-SA Concept has a surprisingly spacious interior. Key to this quality is the designers’ “manipulation of lightness”, witnessed, for instance, in the sweeping dashboard, which reinforces the width of the cabin.

It is common for city vehicles only to carry one person most of the time, and the 2+2 cabin layout gives clear priority to the driver. The driver’s seat is fixed and the steering wheel and pedals are adjustable, bringing the vehicle to the driver rather than vice-versa.
The front passenger seat, however, is slide-adjustable to allow access to the rear.
The duality of function which gives precedence to the driver is supported by an interior design that uses space, materials and volume to create two distinct, overlapping elliptical areas within the cabin.
The infotainment system includes a hologram-style digital display incorporated in the instrument binnacle and a wide-angle head-up display.
GS F and LF-C2 concept
The Geneva motor show also hosts the first appearance in Europe of both the high-performance GS F saloon and the LF-C2 grand touring roadster concept.

Lexus debuts a number of premiere's at the 85th Geneva Motor Show.

  • European premiere of the new Lexus F performance model, the GS F
  • European premiere of the LF-C2 roadster concept
  • World premiere of a new Lexus concept
The Geneva motor show will host the first European appearance to the latest addition to Lexus’s F portfolio of high-performance models, the new GS F. Seen first at the Detroit show in January, the GS F is a refined, four-door saloon with the speed and agility of a premium sports car. Its normally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 engine produces 470bhp and maximum torque of 530Nm. The GS F is also the first model to be equipped with the new, comprehensive Lexus Safety System+.

The GS F will be shown alongside the LF-C2 concept, which is also making its European debut following its unveiling in Los Angeles in 2014. This 2+2 open-top roadster design study explores styling themes that will be part of a new styling direction for the Lexus brand.

Geneva will also witness the world premiere of a new Lexus concept, to be unveiled during a press conference that will take place at 12:30 on 3 March on the Lexus stand (4211) in Hall 4 of the Palexpo exhibition centre.

USA - Los Angeles debut for the new Lexus LF-C2 concept.

Los Angeles Auto Show debut for new open-top design study

The Los Angeles Auto Show today hosts the world debut of the new Lexus LF-C2 concept, a 2+2 roadster design study that captures the key themes in a strong future style direction for Lexus.

Introducing the LF-C2, Jeff Bracken, Lexus US Group Vice President and General Manager said: “This concept shows consumers around the world Lexus’s devotion to emotional designs and its passion for an exceptional driving experience.”

The concept is derived from a pure and simple sports coupe idea, with a highly styled 2+2 layout. Designed to give driver and passenger the best top-down driving experience, it has no roof or cabin covering of any kind.

The exterior styling was influenced by the way surface shapes interact with different type of light. The designers created edges, planes and curves that allow LF-C2 to project a different character when seen from different angles and in different lighting conditions. This approach, combined a layered paint process, results in a striking appearance and a progressive interpretation of an open-top luxury GT.

The show car’s golden yellow finish has been created using a multi-layered paint process. A primer coat is followed by silver, a clear coat, then a yellow which reflects off the silver to create a brilliant lustre, followed by a top coat.

Yasuo Kajino, LF-C2’s Chief Designer, said: We’ve been instinctively drawn to and inspired by those things that capture the beauty of light. When you put something in the right light, people see it in a way they never have before.”

The concept displays an experimental rendering of Lexus’s signature spindle grille design, using a braided mesh effect which represents Lexus craftsmanship, and which changes appearance when viewed from different angles and in different light.

It sits between triangular LED headlights – a shared feature of Lexus sports cars – and indicator lights that initiate a character line that sweeps through the arrow-shaped body to the car’s abbreviated tail section.
Vents in the front bumper direct cooling air to the brakes and help manage airflow to keep the front end stable at high speed.

The profile displays a sweeping line from the front bumper fin to the steeply angled A-pillar. Small vents in the side sills direct air to the rear brakes, exiting through fin-like rear diffusers.

The rear end features L-shaped tail lights, chrome-tipped quad exhaust pipes and a pronounced new rear diffuser design. The concept is fitted with five-spoke 20-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the cabin is spacious and luxurious, matching the sporting elegance of the exterior. In fact the exterior styling extends into the cabin, with the centre console originating from the rear deck in a line that runs the length of the cabin to the dashboard.

The dashboard itself displays a functional simplicity with an attractive but straightforward instrument cluster, a central video monitor controlled by a Remote Touchpad and a classic analogue clock set between the central air vents. The qualities of a driver’s car are reflected in the thick, leather-wrapped steering wheel and form-fitting seats.

The interior designers sought a balanced atmosphere of power and simplicity that connects with the primary senses: white and grey leather surfaces are soft to the touch, and LED lights run the length of the interior below the window line.
