One of the rarest Ferrari's and one owned by Ross Brawn has been put up for sale by Hexagon.

Leading London classic car retailer Hexagon is delighted to welcome one of the rarest and most desirable Ferrari 246 GTS Dino models in existence – the famous ‘Flares’ variant.

Previously owned by former Mercedes team principal and F1’s new Managing Director, Ross Brawn, this very special 1974 open-top Dino features the famous ‘Flares’ package of factory-fitted 7½-inch sand-cast Campagnolo wheels with a wider track and flared wheelarches.

A very rare Dino indeed with just 12 examples built worldwide, the right-hand-drive car at Hexagon Classics is also the penultimate model to be exported to the UK, further adding to its desirability. 

Freshly re-painted in period Bianco Polo Park white and with just 24,000 miles it is in almost as-new condition and represents a fantastic opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts.

It also features re-trimmed black leather seats to Daytona specification (so named after the V12 coupe, which was also on sale at the time). When combined with the wheelarches and Campagnolo wheels in period, the factory-fitted package was known as ‘Chairs and Flares’.   

As with all Dinos, power comes from a mid-mounted 195hp 2.4-litre V6 giving a top speed of 146mph. The car comes complete with the manufacturer’s order and associated invoices to Maranello Concessionaires, the original Concessionaires sales order and correspondence, operating handbook and parts book, handbook wallet and historical chassis file including marque specialist invoices. It also carries Ferrari Classiche certification.

Hexagon Classics Chairman Paul Michaels said: “This is one very special Dino indeed. Not only does it have a famous previous owner in the shape of Ross Brawn, but it is also one of the rarest in the world. “The E-type Club ROUND BRITAIN COASTAL DRIVE, supporting Prostate Cancer UK” is really gathering momentum now.

Over 100 Jaguar E-types have already booked for one or more of the 18 daily stages round the coastal roads of Great Britain. One of those is Formula 1 legend Ross Brawn who masterminded Michael Schumacher's seven World Championships.

Brawn has a fantastic collection of cars, reflecting his time with Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar, including a pair of stunning E-types.

'I think this sounds like a very different and interesting event, supporting a very worthwhile cause. I have booked for two stages and am looking forward to enjoying the fantastic coastal roads of Scotland in my Jaguar E-type.'

Jaguar originally built just 12 very special aluminium Lightweight E-types for racing at Le Mans and Sebring. They were driven by World Champions Jackie Stewart, Graham Hill and Jack Brabham. One, arguably the ultimate Lightweight E, was built with a special Low Drag body. This unique car, which has a value between £5m and £10m, has just been entered by eminent Jaguar restorer Classic Motor Cars.

TV Chef takes controls of historic car for London to Brighton run.

Great British Bake-Off celebrity baker, Paul Hollywood, will be officially starting the 2014 Bonhams London to Brighton Veteran Car Run this Sunday, alongside Olympic legends Sir Ben Ainslie and Sir Steve Redgrave and multiple world-championship wining F1 team boss Ross Brawn. They will be tearing up the red flag on the start line of the run, commemorating the day that motorists could drive without a man walking ahead of them with a red flag and the raising of the speed limit from 4 to 14mph.

Paul will be driving a two-seater 1904 De Dion Bouton powered by a single-cylinder 6hp engine kindly loaned by the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu. “It’s going to be great fun,” commented Paul, “I’ve always wanted to do the Run ever since my granddad used to talk about it, so I’m really looking forward to the journey. I’ve got a real passion for cars and taking this trip with lots of other people who also clearly have a similar passion is going to be something really, really special.”

Paul was delighted to have an opportunity to get to grips with the unusual controls on the De Dion under the expert guidance of Ian Stanfield, Senior Engineer at the National Motor Museum’s restoration workshop. “It’s very different from today’s cars,” said Paul. “You control just about everything with your hands and that takes a bit of getting used to.”

MMMMMMM, Mercedes AMG F1 new engine for 2014

The MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team has given Formula One fans around the globe a unique insight into the future today on its official commercial YouTube channel.

To mark the team’s new status as a YouTube partner for the creation and broadcast of exclusive video content about the Silver Arrows team, MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS has offered fans the first taste of how the new 2014 Power Units will sound out on track.


The audio recording of the turbocharged V6 unit was conducted using a development engine at Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains (HPP) in Brixworth, UK.

This simulated lap of the Monza circuit – the definitive test of any Formula One powerplant – was then synced to a lap of the circuit at the team’s Driver-in-the-Loop simulator at team HQ in Brackley, UK.

The result is the most accurate impression so far of how the new Power Units will sound in 2014, with a maximum rev limit of 15,000 rpm and a single turbocharger spinning at speeds of up to 125,000 rpm.

Mercedes AMG Petronas preview of Shanghai Grand Prix

• The Formula One season resumes next week with the third round, the 2013 UBS Chinese Grand Prix, taking place at the 5.451 km Shanghai International Circuit, located 40 kms outside of the city. This year’s race will be the 10th anniversary of the Chinese Grand Prix which made its debut during the 2004 season.
• 'Shanghai specialist' Nico has led 78 of a total of 168 laps (46%) in the past three years in China
• Nico and Lewis have won the last two Chinese Grands Prix in 2012 and 2011 respectively
• Mercedes-Benz is the most successful engine manufacturer in China, with four wins in the past five races
• Shanghai has a medium Safety Car risk, with deployments in one third of the nine races so far

I travel to China next week with very good memories from winning my first Formula One race in Shanghai last year, and having led the race there for the past three years. I enjoy the Shanghai track a great deal and I have a positive feeling going there with the car that we have at the moment. The team have been working very hard to develop our car since returning from Malaysia and I will be at the factory on Monday to complete my preparations in the simulator for the next two races. We’ve had a strong start to the season and I’m confident that we can keep pushing and hopefully score some good results in China and Bahrain.

I’m looking forward to getting to China next week and going racing again; it feels like a long time since Malaysia! My first two races with my new team have been a great experience and everyone has made me feel so welcome. We’ve had a better start than we expected and to have finished in fifth and third places so far is really positive. I know there is much more to come so we will keep working hard and pushing the development of the car. I’ll be at the factory this weekend and look forward to hearing about the work that’s gone on in the last couple of weeks and the upgrades that we will take to China.

The Chinese Grand Prix of course holds great memories following the first win for Nico and our Silver Arrows team in Shanghai last year. That win was an extremely proud occasion for us all and certainly one that we hope to emulate in the future. Our season has started well, perhaps better than we expected, however we’re fully aware that there is still a gap to close and that we must keep up the pace of development. A lot of hard work has taken place at our factories over the last two weeks to do just that and I look forward to seeing how that translates to track performance. The Chinese Grand Prix race is well established now in its tenth year and it’s an important market for both Formula One and Mercedes-Benz. The circuit itself is challenging with fast curves, tight corners and two hairpins. The layout requires good straightline speed, braking stability and traction, and the temperatures are likely to be cooler than we have experienced in the first two race weekends.

One year on from Nico’s win, a lot of people will be asking whether this is something our team can repeat in 2013. But like they say, yesterday’s home runs don’t win today’s games, and that’s definitely true for us. We start again from zero this year and need to work hard to adapt the car to suit the circuit and the tyre compounds we have available, in the conditions that we find on track next weekend. Then we will see where we stand relative to the competition. We have made a solid start to the season in the first two races with Nico and Lewis both performing at a very high and equal level. The development race will be critical this season so we have more new parts planned for China. Our aim has to be to improve on our good start to the season and continue scoring good points in both championships.
