More than 500 registered bidders joined Classic Car Auctions (CCA) at The Warwickshire Exhibition Centre on Saturday 24^th September, snapping up 70 per cent of the classic cars on sale leading to total sales of £1.4million.

More than living up to its pre-sale interest, a 1972 Jaguar E-Type SIII V12 Roadster barn find, owned by the same family for 40 years, sold for an amazing £61,050, more than £20,000 over its upper estimate.

Another 70s sports car, a 1978 Datsun 260Z with just 8,285 miles from new, sold for £24,750 including premium, more than £6,000 over its lower estimate.

A quartet of BMW M3s all found new homes. After an intense bidding war, a 1988 BMW E30 M3 Evolution II sold for £48,400 including premium. The stunning and extremely rare right-hand drive example was highly sought after in the auction room. As was another rare M3, a 1999 BMW M3 Evolution Imola GT2 Special Edition, which sold to a buyer in the room for £20,350. A 1991 BMW E30 M3, sold for £41,250, more than £7,000 over its lower estimate, while a 1994 BMW E36 M3 3.0 sold for £11,440.

Speaking just after the sale, CCA general manager, Guy Lees-Milne, said: "This was one of our best catalogues yet. The auction hall was packed out once again and buyers clearly liked the selection, variety and value of cars we had on offer.”

Porsche fans were spoilt for choice with many fine examples on offer. A 1996 Porsche 911 993 Carrera, sold online with a winning bid of £28,600. Those after something a little different were clearly impressed by a very pretty 1966 Porsche 912 which sold for £31,680.

Collectors of older classic cars fought over a number of special examples. An original, right-hand drive 1946 MG TC Midget, sold after a long bidding war for £35,750, more than £13,000 over its lower estimate. A 1942 Willys Jeep, restored by the Wheeler Dealers boys, sold for an impressive £28,600.

CCA is now inviting entries into its final sale of the year, the December Sale which takes place once again at the Warwickshire Exhibition Centre near Leamington Spa, on the 3^rd of December.

WarrantyWise.co.uk has revealed the true cost of exotic car repairs, with data detailing its largest ever payouts. A Lamborghini Murcielago tops the list, with a major engine mechanical repair bill of £15,000 fully covered by WarrantyWise. By contrast, covering your Murcielago at WarrantyWise’s highest level of service will set you back just £166 per month.

The top ten list and beyond is full of some of the world’s most famous performance cars, with the top three largest payouts covering major engine mechanical repairs.  Following the Lamborghini in WarrantyWise’s second and third largest payouts were a Porsche 911 and a Maserati 4200 with bills of around £10,000 each. The average monthly cost of WarrantyWise cover for each of the cars is £82 and £146 respectively.

Gearbox issues can leave owners with a hefty bill, too, with big repair costs of just under £10,000 for Aston Martin’s Vanquish and DB9 models needing major repairs to their automatic gearboxes.

Away from the largest repair payouts, WarrantyWise’s data reveal just how expensive relatively minor issues can be in complex, exotic cars. Repairing the ECU in a Ferrari 360, for example, came with a bill of nearly £2,000, with a similar amount required for wheel bearing repairs in a Ferrari 355.

An air-conditioning fix in a Maserati GranTurismo resulted in a £1,885 payout from WarrantyWise and replacing the water pump in a GranTurismo Spider commanded a repair payout of £2,278.

Even the more run of the mill cars aren’t immune to a crippling bill, though, with payouts of more than £5,000 each for family favourites, the Renault Grand Espace and Volkswagen Passat.

Warranties at this more sensible end of the scale, including for popular models like the Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Golf, start from just £19 per month.

This years Silverstone Classic will the biggest yet with a massive display of everything you can think of.

As tradition dictates, this summer’s Silverstone Classic (29-31 July) will be home to a huge number of enthusiastic car clubs all celebrating significant model or marque milestones with vast displays and glittering track parades.

Recent events have exulted in record breaking birthday cavalcades of E-type Jaguars, Ferrari F40s, Porsche 911s, Ford Mustangs and Grand Prix racing cars. This year’s highlights will include an unprecedented gathering mighty Dodge Vipers, one of America’s most iconic muscle cars.

Originally conceived by Chrysler in the late eighties to be a modern day Cobra, the venomous Viper RT/10 Roadster first went on public sale in January 1992. While the finish of the dramatically styled two-door roadster was pretty spartan (there were no windows or exterior door handles!), it came with a Lamborghini-inspired 8-litre V10 engine and thus walloping 160+mph performance. A true US classic was born.

Four years later came a slightly more powerful and refined second generation Viper plus a GTS coupe version for road and track. Also in 1996, the United Kingdom Viper Club was formed and, thus, it is celebrating its 20^th anniversary with a record-breaking display at the 2016 Silverstone Classic. 

“The Classic weekend is going to be the biggest event for us in what’s a very special year,” enthused Adrian Swift, President of the UK Viper Club. “We have at least 16 Vipers coming from Europe to join us at Silverstone and expect to have more than 30 Vipers in Saturday’s track parade. It will be the largest number of Vipers that has ever been gathered together at one spot in the UK!”

It’s not only the UK Viper Club that will be out in force in July; a colossal number of car clubs now make the Silverstone Classic the base for their annual celebrations, and 2016 is set to be no different. Owners and enthusiasts will be marking 50 years of the iconic Lamborghini Miura, 70 years of Allard and 80 years since the introduction of the evergreen Morgan 4/4 – a car that is still being crafted in Malvern today making it the longest single model production run in automotive history.

Amongst all these varied celebrations, the retro-styled Nissan Figaro will be honoured 25 years since its launch. The distinctive little convertible has acquired a cult following in the UK, and is sure to be a standout feature at the Silverstone Classic.

Homegrown classics enjoying their weekend in the spotlight include the Lotus Esprit turning 40 this year, the Jaguar XK8 celebrating its 20^th birthday, plus the Triumph GT6 and Vitesse 2 Litre, which are both 50. In fact, wherever you turn within Silverstone’s vast infield, there will be huge club displays and festivities taking place.

RM Sotheby’s, the world’s leading collector car auction house for investment-quality automobiles, is delighted to announce the addition of an ultra-rare and highly desirable 1968 Ferrari 275 GTS/4 NART Spider to its Monaco auction, 14 May. 

Held during the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique weekend, the single-day auction features over 100 handpicked automobiles and select motorcycles, as well as the stand-alone, bespoke sale of the Quattroruote Collection. 

The 1968 275 GTS/4 NART Spider, chassis no. 11057, is unquestionably one of the most important road-going Ferraris in history, substantially rarer than virtually all of its iconic colleagues. Only ten were ever built as part of an ingenious collaboration between American Ferrari importer extraordinaire Luigi Chinetti and Enzo Ferrari, bearing the race-winning moniker of Chinetti’s North American Racing Team. 

A fixture in the most glamorous, jet-setting locales around the world, the model itself also catapulted itself to instant automotive immortality as a result of its association with Steve McQueen, whose dapper character Thomas Crown, drove one on screen. 

The example on offer is all the more special, as it is not only Ferrari Classiche certified and matching numbers, it is the last of the ten built, the only one delivered new to Europe, and the third from last 275-series Ferrari of any kind constructed. 

The dark red metallic finish and beige interior are paired beautifully with the throaty 330-horsepower V-12 engine, and the car will stun onlookers when set against the dramatic backdrop of Monaco’s skyline. 

This incredible Ferrari will be one of the most valuable automobiles offered at auction in 2016 (Est. expected to fetch in excess of €19 million).

Painted in black with a distinctive red leather interior, this handsome 212 has led a jetsetter lifestyle and is eligible for such prestigious events as the Mille Miglia Storica and the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este (Est. €1.250.000 – €1.500.000). 

Meanwhile, another V-12-powered drop-top also set for RM’s Monaco stage is a stunning Ferrari Classiche-certified 1972 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spider,chassis no. 15535. One of just 18 original LHD European-specification spiders, the featured Daytona has covered just 27,000 km from new (Est. €2.400.000 - €2.800.000). 

For the ultimate Ferrari aficionado looking to stand out in Monaco’s yacht-lined harbour, RM’s Monaco catalogue also includes an ultra-rare, avant-garde 1990 Riva Ferrari 32, hull no. 28; striking in its F1-inspired, signature Ferrari Rosso Corsa red hull, the boat was designed to reach speeds of up to 100 kph (Est. €180.000 - €220.000).

RM’s biennial Monaco sale has quickly become one of Europe’s leading collector car auctions, with the very best automobiles lining the principality’s famous Le Sporting venue. In keeping with the location and the event’s timing during the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique weekend, motorsport greats are always a strong feature of the sale.

One of two chassis built for the 2008 season, the featured Peugeot was driven to second place at the 24 Hours of Le Mans that year by Jacques Villeneuve, Nicolas Minassian and Marc Gene, before winning the Petit Le Mans in 2009. 

Boasting a groundbreaking HDi FAP clean-exhaust diesel-power V-12 engine, its upcoming sale provides serious collectors and historic racing participants the opportunity to acquire one of the Le Mans prototype class’ most successful and unique entrants (Est. €1.200.000 - €1.600.000).

As a prelude to the main auction on 14 May, RM will present the Quattroruote Collection during a separate sale session earlier in the day. An eclectic group of 39 vehicles, including automobiles, motorcycles and carriages, the Quattroruote Collection represents the carefully curated cars of one of the most famous names in Italian motoring journalism, Gianni Mazzocchi, and his family. 

The founder of Quattroruote magazine, the late Mr. Mazzocchi was an automobile enthusiast who appreciated fine engineering, eventually bringing together his purchases in a museum at his publishing company headquarters in Milan. 

Reflecting the family’s desire to tell the history of the automobile, the selection of cars on offer spans everything from a beautiful Bugatti Type 57 Cabriolet to a humble 1951 Fiat 500 C ‘Topolino’. Featuring coachwork by Gangloff, the Bugatti T57 is an historically important car, having been the company demonstrator of Bugatti racing legend Jean-Pierre Wimille, as well as one of the 11 late-production chassis produced in the autumn of 1938 as a 1939 model. 

Currently finished in cream and dark green, it remains in authentic order with its original engine (Est. €500.000 – €600.000). 

The collection also features a rare 1930 Hispano-Suiza H6B Coupé Chauffeur, an imposing pre-war car from the great Spanish company, well-known for its large and luxurious cars built for the wealthiest of pre-war society (Est. €220.000 – €280.000). 

The Quattroruote Collection will cross the podium at 12 noon on 14 May, followed by RM’s traditional evening Monaco sale from 18.00.
