Suzuki launches the new heavily facelifted S-Cross, Crossover, better looks, better engines and more tech.

The S-Cross first went on sale in October 2013 as Suzuki’s first ‘C’ segment crossover model and now, three years later, the major facelifted model is introduced with more distinctive and upright front end styling offering  a stronger and bolder road presence. Ground clearance is now slightly higher at 180mm versus 165mm and new design headlamps help provide both higher efficiency and a sharper look. 

At the rear, newly designed LED rear combination lamps are used to provide a cleaner and more contemporary style.

The distinctive new interior design utilises an updated soft-touch dashboard pad, framing highlights for the centre panel and newly designed seat fabric for SZ4 and SZ-T models. 

S-Cross offers ample room for five occupants with their luggage and the double sliding panoramic glass sunroof fitted as standard on the SZ5 model has one of the largest opening areas in its category (560mm).

The highly acclaimed Boosterjet engines first utilised in the Vitara S and Baleno models are also now available to demonstrate Suzuki once again as a true expert in the field of fun to drive crossover and four wheel drive cars.

Equipment specification – Highlights.

All SZ4 models are equipped as standard with seven airbags, ESP, Bluetooth, DAB digital radio, air conditioning, Daytime Running Lights (DRL), 16-inch alloy wheels, cruise control with speed limiter, air conditioning, heated door mirrors, black protective skid plates and black wheel arch extensions.

SZ-T adds LED Projector Headlamps, satellite navigation, polished 17-inch alloy wheels, rear parking camera, front and rear parking proximity sensors, Dual Zone automatic air conditioning, front fog lamps, rear privacy glass, silver roof rails and silver rear skid plates. Suzuki introduced the SZ-T model specifically with Fleet buyers in mind, although it is available to retail customers as well.

Equipment for the top of the range SZ5 model includes Radar Brake Support (RBS), leather seat upholstery, heated front seats, double sliding panoramic sunroof and aluminium roof rails.

CO₂ emissions are low at just 113g/km for the 1.0-litre 2WD model and 119g/km with optional automatic transmission. The DDiS 2WD model achieves even lower CO₂ emissions of 106g/km that result in an annual VED charge of just £20.

BOOSTERJET Engine.

Suzuki’s Boosterjet petrol engine technology was first utilised in Vitara as a 1.4-litre unit earlier in 2016 and the 1.0-litre version followed several months later in Baleno.  After the debut of the three cylinder Boosterjet 1.0-litre unit this engine technology now continues for the Facelift S-Cross. Offering the same level of power and torque of a much larger capacity normally aspirated engine (1.8-litre), it delivers an effortless drive and genuine driving pleasure.

Historically, power and torque delivery from a turbocharged engine would not have been available until much higher engine speeds, offering less flexibility to the driver.

This unit has an output of 111PS and is also Direct Injection turbocharged (DITC). The engine has very compact dimensions and offers 170Nm of torque available from 2,000rpm through to 3,500rpm. The 1.0-litre engine offers nine per cent more torque than the outgoing 1.6-litre petrol together with 11 per cent lower CO₂ emissions and 10 per cent improved combined fuel consumption.

The 1.4-litre Boosterjet engine has a power output of 140PS and offers 220Nm of torque available from just 1,500rpm which is 41 per cent more than the outgoing 1.6-litre engine.

This engine is also 17 per cent more powerful and four per cent more economical versus the 1.6-litre unit.

The 1.4-litre engine offers strong benefits in performance too with a 0-62mph acceleration time of 10.2 seconds for both manual and automatic transmissions and a maximum speed (where permitted) of 124mph.

1.6-litre diesel engine

The 1.6-litre DDiS engine has a torque output of 320Nm from just 1,750rpm and uses a variable geometry turbocharger (VGT). The VGT gives optimal forced induction by controlling the flow of exhaust gases in accordance with the engine speed, thereby helping to achieve high torque, low fuel consumption and low particulate emissions.

An Engine Auto Stop Start system is used on all S-Cross models which shuts down the engine when stationary.

Four-mode ALLGRIP system

Suzuki evolved its renowned four wheel drive technologies into a new generation that delivers driving pleasure and peace of mind in diverse conditions while promoting economy and limiting the burden four wheel drive cars place on the environment.

Suzuki’s ALLGRIP system is available on SZ-T and SZ5 models. It has four driver-selectable modes for safe, enjoyable driving on diverse surfaces. It debuted in the S-Cross model at first launch and has proved very successful in both this model and Vitara. In development, the ALLGRIP system was enhanced by the addition of a feed forward function that allocates torque to the rear wheels before any slippage can occur.

Four-wheel drive is typically seen as detrimental to fuel economy and emissions performance. By contrast, Suzuki’s ALLGRIP system enables CO₂ emissions that are remarkably low for a four-wheel drive SUV. CO₂emissions for the new 1.0-litre Boosterjet petrol engine with manual transmission is just 119g/km for the 1.0-litre and 127g/km for the 1.4-litre. The optional automatic transmission equipped 1.4-litre model is only one gram higher. The S-Cross with 1.6-litre DDiS engine and ALLGRIP has a figure of 114g/km.

The facelift S-Cross goes on sale on 17^th October with full year sales projection in 2017 of around 5,000 units.

SUZUKI - SX4 S-CROSS

SUZUKI announces its financial results for the FY 2015 Q1 (April 2015 - June 2015).

1. Outline of the Financial Results for FY2015 First Quarter (April 2015 to June 2015)

The consolidated net sales of this first quarter (April 2015 to June 2015) increased by ¥62.5 billion (8.8%) to ¥772.9 billion compared to the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.

The Japanese domestic net sales decreased by ¥8.7 billion (3.4%) to ¥247.3 billion year-on-year owing to the decrease in the OEM sales. The overseas net sales increased by ¥71.2 billion (15.7%) to ¥525.6 billion year-on-year mainly owing to the increase in the automobile sales in India.

In terms of the consolidated income, the operating income increased by ¥4.3 billion (8.3%) to ¥55.2 billion year-on-year mainly owing to the increase in the income in India. 

The ordinary income increased by ¥3.0 billion (5.1%) to ¥62.3 billion year-on-year. However, the net income attributable to owners of the parent decreased by ¥5.8 billion (15.5%) to ¥31.7 billion year-on-year mainly owing to the increase in the adjustment of profit attributable to non-controlling interests.

2. The Operating Results by Segment

In the automobile business, the Company made efforts to expand its sales by strengthening its products such as by launching the all-new Alto Lapin minicar and enhancing fuel efficiency of models including the Hustler and the Spacia minicars. 

However, owing to the decrease in the OEM sales, the Japanese domestic net sales decreased year-on-year. The overseas net sales increased year-on-year mainly owing to the increase in India and Pakistan. 

Consequently, the net sales of the automobile business increased by ¥62.9 billion (10.0%) to ¥691.9 billion year-on-year. The operating income increased by ¥6.3 billion (13.2%) to ¥53.6 billion year-on-year mainly owing to the increase in the income in India.

In the motorcycle business, the net sales decreased by ¥4.7 billion (7.2%) to ¥60.9 billion year-on-year mainly owing to the decrease in the sales in North America and Asia. 

The operating income of ¥1.0 billion in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year became an operating loss of ¥2.6 billion.

In the marine and power products, etc. business, the net sales increased by ¥4.3 billion (27.3%) to ¥20.1 billion year-on-year mainly owing to the increase in the sales of the outboard motors in the US. The operating income increased by ¥1.6 billion (63.8%) to ¥4.2 billion year-on-year.

As for the operating income by geographical areas, Japan decreased by ¥6.6 billion (19.7%) to ¥27.2 billion year-on-year mainly owing to the increase in research and development expenses and depreciation. 

However, Asia increased by ¥14.0 billion (93.2%) to ¥29.1 billion year-on-year mainly owing to the increase in the automobile sales in India and Pakistan.

3. Forecasts for the Consolidated Operating Results-Full Year

As for the forecasts for the consolidated operating results, they remain unchanged from the previous forecasts. The Group will work as one to reform in every field to accomplish the below forecasts for the consolidated operation by pursuing the business activity.

Suzuki to consolidate sales gains with some great offers to keep the momentum flowing.

Suzuki have launched their summer offers across the range, including the new Celerio and Vitara models, and the ever-popular Swift and S-Cross. A PCP (Personal Contract Purchase) agreement is ideal for customers who want to purchase a new Suzuki at a low monthly cost.

The recently introduced Celerio SZ2 is priced at £6,999 and is available for £79 per month over 42 months, with a deposit of £1,816 and optional final payment of £2,685. Celerio SZ2 is well equipped with a DAB digital radio, CD tuner, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and daytime running lights all included as standard specification.

Swift is one of Suzuki’s world strategic models and makes strong statements in styling, impact safety, driving performance, handling as well as offering low fuel consumption and low CO₂ emissions. Swift is also Suzuki’s largest selling model in the UK, accounting for 40% of sales, and a target of 15,000 units for 2015.

Swift SZ3 is available on PCP with 0% APR and £0 deposit, at a cost of £172 per month over 42 months with a final payment of £3,375 for a three door model, or £182 per month with a £3,438 final payment for a five door model.

In addition, all Swift customers purchasing an SZ3 specification car will receive a free satellite navigation upgrade until the end of September. This is in addition to air conditioning, 16-inch alloy wheels, front fog lamps and Bluetooth connectivity which are all included as standard.

S-Cross SZ3 is also available on PCP with 2.9% APR and 48 monthly payments of £159. A £2,090 deposit is required and the optional final payment is £5,275. SZ3 models are equipped with air conditioning, 16-inch alloy wheels, USB and Bluetooth connectivity as standard.

The all-new Vitara is also included in the summer offers, with a 42 month PCP at £179 per month with a deposit of £2,600 for the Vitara 1.6 SZ4 model, which is priced at £13,999. The optional final payment for those customers who want to keep their car is £5,665.

The all-new Vitara is designed meet contemporary needs and incorporates Suzuki’s cutting-edge ALLGRIP four wheel drive system as an option. Advanced safety and connectivity equipment is available and Vitara also enables owners to express themselves through various personalisation options.

Standard equipment specification for the SZ4 model includes seven airbags, 16-inch alloy wheels, DAB Radio with USB and Bluetooth connectivity, Cruise control with speed limiter, auto air conditioning, front and rear electric windows and projector headlamps.

Suzuki takes a well deserved second place in the Warranty Direct/What Car? annual reliability survey.

Lowest cost per claim across all manufacturers

The latest Warranty Direct survey has been published by What Car? Magazine and Suzuki’s renowned reputation for reliability has again been reinforced with another strong result for the brand, scoring 48 points in the Reliability Index. 

The lower the number, the more reliable the brand, and Suzuki’s was considerably lower than the average score across all manufacturers measured which was 149.

Suzuki were in second place overall across 37 manufacturers this year and joined seven other Japanese manufacturers in the top 10.

The Reliability Index takes into account all factors of a repair including the cost of parts, frequency of failures as well as time off the road. Suzuki cars measured in the survey had an average age of 5.35 years, mileage of 39,200 with time off the road of just 1.93 hours in the event of a warranty claim. There were no nasty surprises in store either as the average repair cost across the Suzuki range was £256 – the lowest of all manufacturers.

In the Supermini / City car segment, Suzuki’s low cost of ownership was highlighted even further with the Alto model at an average of 5.15 years old ranking as one of the cheapest cars to repair at just £118. Alto achieved a Reliability Index score of only 14.00 points with an average time off the road of only 1.2 hours. 

Suzuki’s reputation of low cost of ownership continues too with its recently launched Celerio City car now available with new technology Dualjet engine. Dualjet offers even lower CO₂ emissions of just 84g/km and 78.4mpg on the EC Combined fuel consumption cycle. The Swift Supermini is also now available with the Dualjet engine with CO₂ emissions of 99g/km, combined fuel consumption of 65.7mpg and no annual VED to pay.

Suzuki GB PLC announces some minor changes to the Swift and S-Cross ranges for the Spring as well as the introduction of a new Swift derivative; the SZ4 five door 4x4 with Dualjet engine.

This new model replaces the outgoing SZ4 4x4 and offers improved fuel economy, lower CO₂ emissions and a lower VED band too, moving from Band D (£110) to Band C (£30), helping to lower cost of ownership by £80 per year. 

The SZ4 Dualjet 4x4 has CO₂ emissions of just 111g/km and an EC Combined fuel consumption figure of 58.8mpg, representing a 15g/km reduction and 7.5 mpg improvement versus the outgoing SZ4 4x4 model.

The 1.2-litre Dualjet engine (K12C) incorporates Suzuki’s latest technology that utilises twin fuel injectors for improved fuel economy.  Utilising Dualjet technology that positions the fuel injectors very close to the engine inlet valves allows for a finer fuel atomisation (or mixture) which in turn provides a more effective transfer into the engine.

Available until the end of March, Suzuki Financial Services is now offering zero per cent PCP deals on two-wheel drive derivatives of SZ3, SZ-L (Special Edition) and SZ4 Swift models. All PCP agreements are spread over 42 months with an APR of 0% and, as an example the SZ3 three-door is available for just £169 per month with zero deposit. 

Swift is available in five clearly defined specification grades, SZ2, SZ3, SZ-L, SZ4 and Sport with 1.6-litre engine. All models offer seven airbags and ESP as standard, front passenger airbag deactivation facility, electric front windows, remote central door locking with deadlocks, electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors, MP3 / WMA compatible CD tuner with USB port and steering wheel mounted audio controls.

As part of the latest Swift range updates, all five door models now have electric rear windows as standard equipment and Amethyst Grey metallic has been discontinued due to lower demand. The highly acclaimed Sport model is now available in Galactic Grey metallic which replaces Silky Silver metallic and Bright Red has now been discontinued from the S-Cross range.

The spare wheel / tyre is now deleted from the Swift and S-Cross ranges and both include a temporary repair kit in line with Celerio and soon to be launched Vitara models. For customers that prefer, a spare wheel is offered as an accessory and will be available from the dealer network or online.
