The award-winning Volkswagen Caddy is set to become an even more tempting proposition thanks to a substantial specification boost and range realignment. The change, which marks the introduction of the 2018 model year Caddy, delivers even higher standard equipment levels, boosted safety features across all models and lower prices for petrol-powered models.

Safety has always been at the heart of the Caddy’s design and engineering, with driver, passenger and side airbags and post-collision braking system all introduced as standard when the current model was launched in 2015. 

With the 2018 model, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has increased safety levels once again with the fitment of autonomous emergency braking (AEB - Front Assist with City Emergency Braking) and driver alert as standard across the entire range. 

All Volkswagen vans now come with standard AEB, cited by Thatcham Research, the motor insurers’ automotive research centre and respected experts in safety, security and crash repair, as ‘probably the most significant development in vehicle safety since the seat belt’ with the potential to save more than 1,000 lives and 120,000 casualties over the next ten years.

And it’s not just additional safety equipment that Caddy drivers will benefit from with the introduction of the 2018 model. All three trim grades, Startline, Trendline and Highline, feature more standard equipment than ever before, further boosting value for money. 

All models, including Startline, gain a leather multifunction steering wheel and multifunction display (in addition to AEB and Driver Alert), while 2018 Trendline models now feature climatic air conditioning as standard. Finally, range-topping Highline models gain Volkswagen’s sophisticated Discover Media satellite navigation system as standard.

As part of the 2018 Caddy package, Volkswagen is also realigning its price structure. As a result, models equipped with the brand’s highly advanced TSI petrol engines are now significantly more affordable. For example, the Startline 1.2 TSI 84 PS model now costs £17,527 (total RRP inc OTR and VAT) – some £1,017 less than the previous price.

The Caddy enjoys one of the broadest ranges of petrol engine options in its sector, and is offered with three highly efficient TSI petrol units. The line-up for the 2018 model consists of: a 1.2-litre 84 PS four-cylinder unit, a 1.0-litre 102 PS three-cylinder unit and a range-topping 1.4-litre 125 PS four-cylinder engine offered with the option of a seven-speed DSG transmission. All three optimise lightweight construction and a turbocharger to deliver the perfect combination of performance and efficiency.

For van drivers and fleet operators, safe vans mean lower costs as well as less downtime thanks to fewer crashes and therefore drivers and vans kept on the road – and working – for longer. In addition, vehicles fitted with autonomous braking systems have an average insurance premium reduction of ten per cent compared to those which don’t.

Prices have been announced for the all-new Volkswagen Crafter, with UK Van Centres able to take orders now ahead of the van’s official launch at the CV Show in April and first customer deliveries in May.

The all-new Crafter, International Van of the Year for 2017, was designed from the ground-up, following extensive research, to provide customers with the right van for their needs. 

A wide range, which includes different powertrains, drivetrains and capacities, offers maximum flexibility, while a suite of innovative technologies is available – not for technology’s sake, but to provide customers with solutions to real-world problems.

All new Crafter models are powered by a new 2.0-litre TDI (EU6) engine, developed specifically for commercial vehicles, which is available with four power outputs: 102, 122, 140 and 177 PS. 

The choice of engine depends on which drive system is selected. Customers can also choose between front, rear and all-wheel drive (4MOTION), as well as between a manual and automatic gearbox.

Up to three different vehicle lengths are available, depending on the model chosen: 5.9 m, 6.84 m or 7.39 m. Panel van variants also come with one of three different roof heights: 2.35 m, 2.59 m or 2.79 m.

Three trim levels are on offer – Startline, Trendline and Highline – bringing the Crafter into line with Volkswagen’s Caddy and Transporter ranges. Prices and highlights of each trim are shown below:

A wide range of options is also available including a number of driver and safety assistance systems such as side protection, rear traffic alert, park assist and trailer assist.

As, if not more, important as the product itself is the range of aftersales and customer support products and services which are being rolled out throughout the Van Centre network in preparation for launch. 

More details will follow, but examples include extended opening hours, telematics systems, preventative maintenance and bespoke service and maintenance plans.

Front-wheel drive manual panel vans are available to order now. Rear-wheel drive, 4MOTION and automatic transmission variants will follow during 2017, along with open-body models and factory-produced conversions.

A BlueMotion version of the 6th-gen Transporter panel van is available to order adding impressive economy to the award winner.

A BlueMotion version of the sixth-generation Transporter panel van is now available to order from Volkswagen Van Centres, adding impressive economy to the multi-award-winning van’s already long list of credentials.

The most frugal edition of the T6 short wheelbase panel van has at its heart the proven 2.0-litre TDI 102 PS Euro 6 common rail diesel engine. 

Even in standard Startline form with five-speed manual gearbox, this van returned impressive economy and CO₂ figures: 47.9 mpg and 153 g/km. The BlueMotion model is capable of returning 51.4 mpg on the combined cycle (a seven per cent improvement) and CO₂ emissions reduced to 145 g/km.

In order to achieve these improvements, the new BlueMotion Transporter adds aerodynamically improved wheel spoilers and lowered suspension, modified gear ratios, low friction tyres, cruise control and a speed limiter (to 62 mph) to the standard BlueMotion Technology modifications which come as standard on all T6 models. These include Stop/Start and battery regeneration systems.

The new Transporter BlueMotion has a gross vehicle weight of 2.7 tonnes, and a payload of 839 kg, which is up to 121 kg more than that of the short wheelbase T26 2.0-litre TDI 102 PS five-speed manual.

Costing £19,670 (basic price ex VAT), the Transporter BlueMotion is available to order now at all Volkswagen Van Centres.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has announced the launch of its latest evolution of the iconic Transporter Chassis Cab. Available for order now, prices start from £21,265 (exc. VAT) for the LWB Single Cab Startline 2.0TDI 140PS Euro 5 6-speed manual.

Offering a versatile blank canvas for businesses who wish to create a load space to suit their specific needs, the latest Transporter Chassis Cab is also available to order with a drop-side body directly from the factory. The latest Transporter Chassis Cab range has been developed to complement the range of Volkswagen Crafter chassis and drop-side derivatives that are available through Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ ‘Engineered to Go’ programme.

Available in either single cab or double cab variants, the new Transporter Chassis Cab can carry up to six passengers in double cab form and offers a payload capacity of up to 1339 kg in single cab specification. Volkswagen announces pricing and specifications for the All New Caddy Commercial vehicle.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has announced pricing for its new Caddy panel van range, ahead of Van Centres taking orders later this month and first UK customer deliveries in September.  Prices start at £13,500 (excl. VAT and OTR charges) for the C20 Startline short wheelbase model with a 2.0-litre TDI 75 PS engine.

The Caddy is the second best-selling model in Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ range after the Transporter, and new state-of-the-art technology, a raft of comfort, convenience and safety innovations as well as new engines will ensure the fourth generation continues the success of previous iterations.

The new Caddy is available in three trim levels – Startline, Trendline and Highline – and with short or Maxi wheelbases.  The Maxi version adds 469 mm to the short wheelbase’s already generous 1,781 mm and a load capacity of 4.2m³ (SWB 3.2m³ ).

Even the entry-level Startline model comes with an impressive array of standard equipment, including electric windows and heated and electrically adjustable wing mirrors, a five-inch touchscreen Composition Colour radio system with DAB+ and Bluetooth capability, a lockable glovebox, plus safety features such as driver and front passenger front, side and curtain airbags, a new post-collision braking system and a seatbelt reminder. 

Moving up the range, Trendline, with prices starting from £15,670 adds (in addition to Startline) full wheel covers, body coloured bumpers, handles and wing mirrors, rear parking sensors, cruise control, multi-function display, driver’s lumbar support, under-seat storage and sun visors with vanity mirrors.

At the top of the range, Highline, from £16,650, gains (in addition to Trendline) alloy wheels, front fog lights and daytime running lights, Climatic air conditioning, heated front windscreen, automatic dimming rear-view mirror, Thatcham category 1 alarm and windscreen wipers with intermittent control and rain sensor.

At launch the Caddy is offered with a range of three 2.0-litre EU5 engines, ranging in power output from 75 through 102 to 150 PS.  An EU6 compliant 2.0-litre unit with 102 PS is also available from launch.  

All models are available in combination with a five- or six-speed manual gearbox, with customers of the higher powered versions can also opt for a DSG automatic gearbox option (with six- or seven-speeds depending on engine power output). 

All Caddy models can be specified as ‘BMT’, meaning BlueMotion Technology modifications (start/stop system and battery regeneration) are fitted to reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions.  

A standalone BlueMotion variant also joins the range: with a 2.0-litre EU6 102 PS engine and five-speed manual gearbox it can return 65.7 mpg and CO₂ emissions of 114 g/km.

The Caddy sets a new benchmark in the class for its array of safety and convenience systems.  It is offered with Park Assist and a rear-view reversing camera, as well as High Beam Assist and Driver Alert systems, all of which help to enhance safety and reduce damage to vehicles.

Customers will also be able to specify Adaptive Cruise Control with Front Assist and City Emergency Braking.  This system monitors the space to the vehicle ahead and maintains a specified speed and distance to ensure safe stopping.  

This technology has been used in Volkswagen Passenger Cars and is proven to reduce third party injury claims by 45 per cent. 

In the cabin, the Caddy feels comfortable yet robust, and boasts new upholstery and switchgear, as well as enhanced stereo and infotainment systems.  The standard five-inch touchscreen Colour Composition radio can be upgraded to Composition Media, or the Discover Navigation system.

Naturally Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will boost the Caddy range in July with the addition of passenger-carrying models.  Pricing and details for these will be announced in July ahead of deliveries in September.
