FRANKFURT - Hyundai presents the Vision G Coupe as a look to the future of it's cars.

  • Vision G displays passion for luxury and performance to inspire future premium products
  • New intuitive controls include curved display and ‘Remote Wheel’
  • Advanced technologies demonstrate the potential of in-car connectivity
Hyundai Motor presents the ‘Vision G’ Coupe Concept at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, an evolution of its design language that will inspire a family of future premium products. The concept demonstrates Hyundai’s passion for performance and luxury, while also showcasing advanced connectivity and future control technologies.

“Vision G is the first high-end premium coupe by Hyundai Motor. Despite its bold and powerful styling, the concept is purposefully understated, creating a balance of opulence and elegance that will resonate with customers who seek style without pretention,” said Peter Schreyer, President and Chief Design Officer of Hyundai Motor Company. “Vision G represents a fresh interpretation of Hyundai Motor’s characteristic approach of balancing design and performance, expressed in a way that isn’t overburdened with glitz and stereotypical luxury cues.”
During the design process, a unique collaboration was made between Hyundai Motor creative teams in North America, Asia and Europe. The notion of ‘chivalry’ was a key inspiration to the design teams who made efforts to ensure the car would be noticed and respected, without being excessively exuberant. This respectful approach is evident throughout the car, for example, the automatic door acts like a valet, while recognising the self-sufficiency of the driver.
A sense of the car’s performance capabilities is created by clever treatment of the concept’s exterior. The long hood, high-beltline and understated cabin present an appearance of tension, like a loaded slingshot.
“Vision G appears dynamic and in constant motion even when standing still, this anticipation of action reflects the confidence we have in the future direction of luxury Hyundai Motor vehicles,” said Christopher Chapman, Head of Hyundai Design Centre in North America. “Making an emotional connection with our customers is of huge importance to Hyundai Motor, the design of Vision G makes this connection in a bold, respectful and premium way.”
The underlying idea of respectful luxury flows into the interior, underscored by simplicity and a sense of calm. The introspective design ensures the driver is ensconced in a relaxing, non-glitzy environment, with effortless luxury provided by the natural, warm wood and leather.
At the heart of Vision G is the award-winning 5.0-litre Tau V8 engine, producing 420 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 383 lb. ft. of torque at 5,000 rpm.
The Tau V8 engine family has been named in Ward’s prestigious Ten Best Engines list three times. With high-pressure direct injection for impressive power, low emissions and superb efficiency, this latest version of the Tau V8 benefits from an optimised intake runner, enhanced timing chain for reduced noise, vibration and harshness (NVH), a low-torque exhaust manifold, increased compression ratio and upgraded multiple-injection mapping. These enhancements combine to produce a flatter torque curve at lower rpm for even better driveability.
Vision G is also a reference point for the newest Hyundai Motor technologies, providing customers with maximum comfort and enjoyment while causing minimal distraction. The most notable features are the central control panel ‘Remote Wheel’ and curved display.
The ‘Remote Wheel’ is an ergonomically designed semi-sphere haptic touchpad installed in the centre console. It offers intuitive touch and gesture interaction and responds to a simple wave of the hand, minimising driver distraction.
Vision G is equipped with a curved display on its centre fascia, delivering information rich in detail. By removing all physical buttons, Vision G presents a simple and intuitive overall cabin ambience.
The driver’s preferred display content is freely interchangeable between cluster and centre fascia, helping them keep their eyes on the road. All of Hyundai Motor’s latest intelligent and safety functions – including Autonomous Driving System and Driver State Monitoring – are intuitively and thoroughly implemented within Vision G.

  • New i40 introduces Android Auto in Europe
  • Vision G concept car shows inspiration for future premium products
At the Frankfurt International Motor Show 2015 Hyundai Motor is showcasing the passion of its brand, with new models, visionary concept cars and innovative technologies.

The New i20 Active and New Santa Fe both premiere on the Hyundai stand, joining the company’s youngest-ever line-up in Europe, with all models being less than two years old.

The Android Auto smartphone mirroring technology debuts in the New i40, placing Hyundai among the first in Europe to offer this feature.

The company’s passion for design is presented in the Vision G coupe concept car, making its motor show debut, offering a glimpse of Hyundai’s design evolution and future premium products. Passion for performance is envisioned through the new Hyundai N sub-brand and exciting concept cars such as N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo.

Hyundai Motor’s full crossover and SUV range new or enhanced in 2015

The new i20 Active and new Santa Fe premiere with an advanced range of new active safety, comfort and convenience features while a new 1.0-litre T-GDI engine is introduced across the i20 engine range.

Thomas A. Schmid, Chief Operating Officer at Hyundai Motor Europe, commented: “With the New i20 Active and New Santa Fe we further broaden our European crossover and SUV family, with all models renewed or replaced this year. These two new models also enhance our youngest-ever line-up in Europe.

The first eight months of 2015 were our most successful in Europe ever. And we are preparing the way for further organic growth during 2015 and beyond.”

New i20 Active – a rugged crossover for urban adventure

The rugged New i20 Active will further expand the appeal of the i20 range when it goes on sale in Europe from early 2016, joining the spacious, refined i20 five-door and the sporty, individual i20 Coupe. The compact crossover includes a distinctive design and increased versatility for customers with adventurous lifestyles.

To give the i20 Active a characteristic crossover stance, revised suspension settings increase the car’s ground clearance by 20 mm compared to the five-door, with the seating position also raised to give superior visibility.

Its unique rugged crossover features like the skid plates on the front and rear and cladding on the wheel arches set it apart from conventional B-segment models and heighten its appeal for new customers.

For greater efficiency, a new three-cylinder 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine will be available with two power outputs across all i20 body types from the end of 2015. The 100 PS version is tuned to maximise fuel economy, while the 120 PS unit has been developed to facilitate more spirited driving without sacrificing efficiency

New Santa Fe – a refined and innovative SUV package

The New Santa Fe premieres with design enhancements and an advanced range of new active safety, comfort and convenience features. The popular SUV is Hyundai Motor’s longest-running model in Europe and has become one of the brand’s iconic nameplates, having built a reputation for sophistication and premium quality.

The New Santa Fe’s refined profile creates an athletic, modern presence to reflect the latest Hyundai family look. Inside the cabin, subtle design upgrades and new materials emphasise its status as the brand’s flagship SUV.

A host of new active safety and comfort features are being introduced on the car, including Autonomous Emergency Braking, Rear-Cross Traffic Alert, Smart Cruise Control, Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist and High Beam Assist all adding to further enhance driver convenience and safety.

Hyundai Motor introduces Android Auto for enhanced connectivity

Hyundai Motor was the first car manufacturer worldwide to introduce Android Auto in its US Hyundai Sonata earlier this year. Now Hyundai Motor will be among the first in Europe to include the smartphone-based mirroring software in one of its cars when it is introduced to the New i40 in November 2015.

Android Auto enables users of smartphones with Android technology to connect their devices to the screen of Hyundai’s infotainment unit, to access native and third -party apps focused primarily on music streaming, communication and radio services. Android Auto makes use of smartphone capabilities to give Hyundai drivers new ways to stay connected, while staying focused on the road.

Vision G – an imagination of future design and technology

The dynamic Vision G coupe concept showcases Hyundai’s design evolution for future premium products as well as presenting advanced connectivity and control technologies.

The unique ‘sling-shot’ design and advanced technology features were developed through a collaboration of all Hyundai Design Centres around the world. New features such as a sweeping touch screen display with a curved screen add sophistication to the calm, high-quality interior.

Jochen Sengpiehl, Vice President Marketing at Hyundai Motor Europe, commented: “In line with our Modern Premium strategic direction, we are upgrading the Hyundai brand and creating new possibilities for our customers.

Hyundai reveals the “Vision G” Concept Coupe to a group of media at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

Introduces Concept as Evolution of Hyundai’s ‘Responsible and Respectful’ Luxury Family of Products

Hyundai Motor America revealed the “Vision G” Concept Coupe to a select group of media at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). The concept was described as Hyundai’s inspiration for its family of future premium products that promise luxury, performance and style with the value and responsibility that is the foundation of Hyundai’s brand.

“The concept was designed with coordinated input from Hyundai design studios around the world, but was led by our team here in the U.S.,” said Peter Schreyer, Hyundai’s president and chief design officer. “The design is our interpretation of the idea that Hyundai breathes into all of its vehicles – a DNA that balances design and performance with the idea that you don’t need to be over the top in terms of glitz and stereotypical luxury cues.”

During the design process, Hyundai’s team of designers centered their work on the notion of “chivalry” – a word they felt best defined the idea that one doesn’t need to shout to be noticed and respected. “Vision G” is purposefully understated, despite its size and dramatic lines. One example of this respectful luxury – and a nod to the self-sufficiency of the driver – is a technology that automatically opens the door as if being opened by a valet.

The exterior styling of the concept is highlighted by a long hood, high-beltline and a cabin that presents a slingshot-like appearance. “In keeping with a design that speaks to the owner rather than ‘the spectators’ who might see the car on the road, Vision G appears dynamic and in constant motion,” said Christopher Chapman, head of Hyundai’s U.S. design center and leader of the coupe’s design team. “After all – and if all is right in the world – the only time an owner sees the exterior of the car is when it’s standing still.”

The underlying idea of respectful luxury flows into the interior, underscored by its clarity and simplicity. No glaring examples of luxury, but rather elegant lines and finishes.

The heart of “Vision G” is the award-winning 5.0-liter Tau V8 engine producing 420 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 383 lb. ft. of torque at 5,000 rpm. The Tau V8 engine family has been named to Ward’s prestigious Ten Best Engines list three times. With high-pressure direct injection for impressive power, low emissions and superb efficiency, this latest version of the Tau V8 benefits from an optimized intake runner length, enhanced timing chain for reduced friction and NVH, low-torque exhaust manifold, increased compression ratio and upgraded multiple-injection mapping. These enhancements combine to produce a flatter torque curve at lower rpm for even better driveability.

“Vision G” will next be shown at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on Sunday, August 16 in Monterey, Calif.
