WORLDWIDE SALES JUNE - VW - The German giant handed over 512,700 units in the month.

  • 512,700 vehicles handed over to customers worldwide, an increase of 4.0 per cent compared with the previous year
  • Strong positive impetus from South America, China and the USA
  • Overall, deliveries in first half of 2017 slightly higher than previous year
The Volkswagen brand delivered 512,700 vehicles to customers worldwide in June 2017, an increase of 4.0 per cent compared with the previous year. In total, 2,935,100 vehicles from the Volkswagen brand were handed over to customers worldwide in the first half of the year, representing a slight increase of 0.3 per cent on the prior-year figure.
Jürgen Stackmann, Volkswagen Brand Board Member for Sales, commented: "The Volkswagen brand saw worldwide deliveries increase in June as well as overall for the first half of the year, and recorded strong growth in China and other key regions.
There was a robust increase in the South America region even though further products will only be launched towards the end of the year. In the USA, the Atlas got off to a successful start in the first two months of sales and helped the brand outpace market growth.
The Tiguan is an important global catalyst and will be also launched on the North American market in the second half of the year. Other new models such as the Polo, Arteon and Tiguan Allspace give us further grounds for optimism as regards the second half of the year."
The main trends in the individual regions in June were as follows:
  • In Europe, deliveries remained stable overall at 163,500 units. The Volkswagen brand reported strong growth in deliveries in Austria (+10.7 per cent), Switzerland (+6.0 per cent) and in the Scandinavian markets of Finland (+6.6 per cent) and Denmark (+10.6 per cent). Meanwhile, the decline (-5.2 per cent) in the home market of Germany affected the performance in Western Europe (-2.1 per cent).
  • The Volkswagen brand reported significant growth in Central and Eastern Europe, with deliveries increasing by 15.2 per cent. The main driver of this positive development was Russia, where deliveries grew by 18.3 per cent.
  • Deliveries in the USA ran at 27,400 units, 15.0 per cent up on the figure for the previous year. The Volkswagen brand now has a presence in a further key segment in the North American market with the launch of the Atlas SUV, where deliveries to customers began mid-May.
  • 34,800 vehicles were handed over to customers in South America, an increase of 21.5 per cent. A key driver of this positive trend was the market in Argentina, where 10,500 vehicles were delivered to customers, an increase of 46.9 per cent.
  • The Volkswagen brand continued on its positive growth course in China in June. 232,400 vehicles were delivered to customers in the brand's largest market, representing a rise of 5.4 per cent. Strong momentum came from the Magotan, with deliveries totaling 18,300 (+62.7 per cent). 5,300 customers took delivery of the new Teramont SUV in its third month of sales. The Tiguan family was also much in demand, with deliveries in June running at 27,300 models.

WORLDWIDE SALES MAY - CADILLAC - The US luxury brand continues to grow at a large rate.

  • Sales increased in all markets
  • XT5 sold 11,735 units worldwide
  • Continued record growth in China
Cadillac globally sold 29,738 units in May 2017, an increase of 33.8 percent – driven by strong year-over-year growth in all markets. May marked the 12th consecutive month of double-digit growth for Cadillac, and continued execution of the brand’s globalization strategy.
Cadillac sales have increased 32 percent globally year to date. In the midsize luxury crossover category – the industry’s strongest segment – the sustained popularity of the acclaimed XT5 has resulted in a 43.6 percent sales increase so far in 2017.
The new luxury crossover was the brand’s best seller worldwide in May, totaling 11,735 units. In addition, sales of Cadillac’s ATS sport sedan and coupe models grew 45.2 percent for the month, while the XTS luxury sedan rose 20.7 percent.
Despite continued contraction in the US market for luxury sedans, which represent the mainstay of the Cadillac product portfolio at present, Cadillac achieved strong growth in the U.S. in May, with sales increasing 9.2 percent.  This was achieved due to the strong demand for the XT5 and iconic Escalade models.  The average transaction price for a new Cadillac in the U.S. in May continues to remain above $54,000, the second highest amongst major luxury automotive brands.
In Asia, the brand grew over 65 percent, thanks to a robust performance in China, South Korea and Japan.
“Cadillac has earned double-digit monthly gains in global sales growth for an entire year,” said Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen.  “Not only have we increased sales volume with the success of vehicles such as the XT5 luxury crossover, but we also continue to see consumers selecting a richer mix of models, keeping Cadillac’s average transaction prices amongst the highest for a mainstream luxury brand.”

  • Ford Mustang became the best-selling sports car in the world in 2016, according to IHS Markit global automotive registration data, including more than 15,000 orders in Europe
  • Over 4,500 Mustang’s sold in U.K. since 2015 launch
  • Regions including Europe and China fuel global Mustang sales growth in 2016 with global sales up 6 per cent over 2015
  • Mustang is the best-selling sports car in European markets including France, Sweden, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Finland and Greece
Ford Mustang has been the best-selling sports car in the U.S. during the past 50 years, and now thanks to growing popularity in Europe and elsewhere, the iconic pony car is the most popular sports car in the world, according to Ford analysis of IHS Markit new vehicle registration data in the sports car segment.
Mustang expanded its sales lead in 2016 as the world’s best-selling sports car, with more than 150,000 Mustangs sold, according to IHS Markit new vehicle registration data. Overall global sales increased 6 per cent over 2015, fuelled by non-U.S. market growth up 101 per cent with almost 45,000 Mustang vehicles sold outside the U.S.
In the first full year of sales in Europe, customers ordered 15,335 Mustangs across the region.* Mustang was the best-selling sports car in European markets including France, Sweden, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Finland and Greece.
In the U.K., over 4,500 Mustangs have been sold to date, with over 3,250 of those in 2016 as the Mustang comfortably led the sales tables for sports cars over 250PS, following launch in late 2015.
“From the Arctic Circle to the Mediterranean, the Ford Mustang has topped the sports car sales charts in markets across Europe,” said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford of Europe. “European customers continue to play a significant role in the global success of Mustang. The iconic sports car’s popularity with drivers of all ages and backgrounds shows no sign of waning – we sold 3,600 Mustangs in the region during the first three months of 2017.”
Mustang’s ascension to best-selling sports car in the world in 2016 was driven largely by continued global rollout that saw big sales gains in markets including Germany and China, as well as the car’s introduction to smaller territories such as New Caledonia, Gibraltar and Bonaire.
Since launching in China in 2015, Mustang has become the best-selling sports car in the world’s biggest auto market. Mustang sales in 2016 were up 74 per cent over 2015, according to IHS Markit new vehicle registrations.
Mustang – with more than 8.4 million likes – is the most-liked vehicle on Facebook, and is now available in 140 countries across all continents other than Antarctica. The Ford Mustang in Europe is available with Ford’s 421 PS 5.0-litre V8 or 317 PS 2.3‑litre EcoBoost engines, and six-speed manual or automatic transmissions.
Ford recently introduced a new limited run special edition Ford Mustang model, with unique styling and premium specifications for customers in the U.K.
The Ford Mustang Shadow Edition is available with the 5.0-litre V8 engine, six-speed manual, in Race Red and Grabber Blue from £39,895.
