The polestar brand works it's magic on the upcoming new XC-60 Sports Utility Vehicle.

The Polestar optimisation improves five key areas of the powertrain while retaining the Volvo warranty, class-leading emission levels, consumption of 2.1 l/100 km and a pure electric range of 45 kilometres for the T8.

Experience from more than two decades on the track with Cyan Racing, the motorsport partner of Polestar, has transformed the engine performance, throttle response, off-throttle response, gearshift speed and hold, taking the XC60 to a new level of driving pleasure.

”Our goal is to create usable performance in everyday driving situations for Volvo owners who want an enhanced driving experience,” said Henrik Fries, Vice President, Research and Development at Polestar. “The new XC60 has provided us with an excellent base to work on with a dynamic chassis and a state of the art powertrain. With the Polestar optimisation, it makes the new Volvo XC60 a true drivers’ car.”

Two key features of the optimisation are the improved engine performance and gearbox functionality.

The enhancements for the engine are made to provide greater power and torque in the mid-range of the engine, the area most often used in everyday-driving, for example when joining a highway, overtaking or exiting a corner.

The gearbox shifts faster, gearshift points have been calibrated to utilise the optimised mid-range engine performance, and the gear-hold function maintains the same gear when cornering with high lateral g-force in order to avoid unsettling the balance of the car.

A total of five XC60 models are available* for Polestar optimisation, including the T8, T6, T5, D5 and D4.

USA - Volvo announces pricing & some specification for the all new 2018 XC60 SUV.

Volvo Car USA has released pricing for the highly anticipated all-new 2018 Volvo XC60. The mid-sized luxury SUV will be available with a T5 turbocharged gas engine producing 250 horsepower with all-wheel drive; a T6 turbo and supercharged gas engine producing 316 horsepower with all-wheel drive and a T8 Twin Engine Electric Plug-In Hybrid producing 400 horsepower with electric all-wheel drive. 

Pricing for the T5 starts at $41,500, the T6 starts at $44,900 and the T8 starts at $52,900. The 2018 XC60 is the first of the all-new 60 series cars and includes elements of the new Volvo design language. 

All XC60s will come equipped with a class leading level of standard equipment including a panoramic moonroof, leather seats, Thor’s Hammer LED headlamps, and Apple Carplay / Android Auto integrated into the 9 inch center touch screen.  

Optional features such as soft Nappa Leather seats with ventilation and massage, Bowers & Wilkins Premium Sound and four-corner air suspension bring a new level of luxury to the mid-sized SUV market.

The XC60 features Lane Keeping Aid standard and will debut with Oncoming Lane Mitigation, which will provide steering input to mitigate head-on collisions. 

This function will also join the standard Intellisafe City Safety system, which includes pedestrian, cyclist, vehicle and large animal detection with automatic emergency braking. Volvo’s Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) will now use Steer Assist functionality to prevent drivers from changing lanes into other vehicles.

The First Volvo XC60 rolls of the production lines in Sweden to carry on where the old model left off.

Production of Volvo Cars’ new XC60 mid-size SUV started today at the company’s Torslanda plant in Sweden. The first customer-bound car, a T5 AWD Inscription in Crystal White, rolled off the production line just before lunch time.

The new car replaces Volvo’s highly successful original XC60, which in the nine years since its launch became the best-selling premium mid-sized SUV in Europe, with nearly a million units sold globally. The XC60 today represents around 30 per cent of Volvo’s total global sales.

“This is a proud day for everyone at the plant,” said Magnus Nilsson, vice president of the Torslanda plant. “We have worked hard in recent weeks and months to prepare Torslanda for this latest new Volvo model, and now we are ready to start delivering new XC60s to customers.”

The XC60 is the fourth model based on Volvo’s in-house-developed SPA vehicle architecture, following the introduction of the top-of-the-line 90 series in recent years. The SPA-related investments in Sweden have had positive effects on employment at the company, with thousands of new jobs added in production, research and development, and other areas.

New comfort and safety technology

The new XC60, one of the safest cars ever made, is loaded with new technology. Steer Assist has been added to the ground-breaking City Safety system. A new safety system called Oncoming Lane Mitigation uses Steer Assist to help mitigate head-on collisions, while Volvo’s Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) now uses Steer Assist functionality to reduce the risk of lane-changing collisions.

Pilot Assist, Volvo’s advanced semi-autonomous driver-assistance system, which takes care of the steering, acceleration and braking on well-marked roads up to 130 km/h, is available in the new XC60 as an option.

The new XC60 offers Volvo’s award-winning T8 Twin Engine petrol plug-in hybrid at the top of the powertrain range, delivering 407 hp and acceleration from 0-100 km/h in just 5.3 seconds.

But it is not just under the bonnet that the new XC60 delivers healthy performance. The new CleanZone four-zone climate control system removes harmful pollutants and particles from outside the cabin to deliver Scandinavian-fresh air on the inside.

Volvo Cars’ driver infotainment and connected services offer, Sensus, and the Volvo On Call app both receive a graphical update with improved usability. As in the 90 series cars, smartphone integration with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is also available.

With the new XC60 now on the market and gradually becoming available to order in markets across the globe, Volvo is set for another record year of sales in 2017.

The new Volvo XC60 SUV is now available to order in the UK, with on-the-road prices starting at £37,205 for the D4 AWD Momentum version.

The XC60 is the first of Volvo’s mid-sized 60 series models to be built on its Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform. It is powered exclusively by Volvo’s efficient Drive-E powertrains, and features much of the advanced connectivity, entertainment and safety technology from the larger 90 series cars – the S90 premium saloon, V90 estate and XC90 SUV.

A choice of three 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engines will initially be available – the D4 and D5 PowerPulse diesels, and the T5 petrol. A T8 Twin Engine petrol-electric plug-in hybrid will be available later in the year.

Every XC60 comes with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard. The D4 offers 190 hp, combined fuel consumption of up to 55.4 mpg and CO₂ emissions from just 133 g/km. The D5 has 235 hp, combined fuel consumption of 51.4 mpg and CO₂ emissions of 144 g/km. It also benefits from PowerPulse, an ingenious Volvo invention that uses compressed air to spin the engine’s two turbos when they would otherwise be dormant, such as very low engine revs, boosting responsiveness.

The T5 offers 254 hp, combined fuel economy of up to 39.2 mpg and CO₂ emissions from 164 g/km.

Every version of the XC60 is luxuriously equipped. As standard, even entry-level Momentum variants come with leather-faced upholstery, LED headlights with active high beam, two-zone climate control with ‘CleanZone’ air-filtration system, heated front seats, a powered tailgate and 18” alloy wheels.

Volvo’s Sensus infotainment system is also standard. This brings a 9” portrait-style touch screen, satellite navigation – including lifetime annual map updates and Real-Time Traffic Information (RTTI) – and an intuitive voice-activation system. It even provides access to the internet and a range of cloud-based apps such as Spotify, TuneIn, Stitcher and Yelp.*

Volvo’s City Safety system is fitted to every XC60. This includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian, cyclist and large animal detection, and the world-first application of Steer Assist. This feature helps to avoid or limit the severity of collisions at low speeds by assisting with the steering in an emergency, such as when swerving to miss an obstacle.

Pilot Assist, Volvo’s innovative semi-autonomous drive feature, is an optional extra on every XC60. It assists with the steering (up to 80 mph) and takes care of the acceleration and braking required to keep the car within lane markings and at the desired cruising speed or distance from any vehicle in front. Pilot Assist is another step towards fully autonomous driving.

The dynamic R-Design version adds 19” alloy wheels, sports suspension, sports seats trimmed in leather and Nubuck, a high gloss black front grille, and silver matt and high gloss exterior detailing.

The luxurious Inscription trim level gets Nappa soft leather upholstery and electrically adjustable ventilated front seats. It also has a different style of 19” wheels, chrome exterior details, and rear footwell and side step illumination.

Every version is also available in highly specified Pro form. Going for Momentum Pro brings powered front seats, a heated steering wheel and windscreen, active bending headlights with adaptive shadow technology, and Volvo On Call, Volvo’s ingenious connected smartphone app, which allows you to control various car functions remotely.

R-Design Pro benefits from all this, along with 21” alloy wheels and electronic air suspension and adaptive dampers, while Inscription Pro has 20” wheels, the upgraded suspension and a massage function for the front seats.

An optional Xenium package is available across the range and adds a powered tilt and slide panoramic glass sunroof, a 360^o surround view parking camera system, and Park Assist Pilot, which includes automatic parallel and 90^o parking.

Smartphone Integration is another option, and includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This provides access to certain functions of your Apple or Android device and optimised apps directly via the XC60’s touch screen, voice-activation system or the buttons on the steering wheel.

A superb Bowers and Wilkins premium sound system is available, too. This uses the same advanced digital surround sound processing as in the 90 series cars, and features 15 speakers and a total output of 1,100W.
