Classic Motor Cars Ltd, the company responsible for the Mark 2 By Callum, has handed over control to it's staff.

A highly successful and globally renowned classic car restoration company in Bridgnorth, Shropshire, which last year turned over £5.2 million, has been given to the staff by its owner. Classic Motor Cars Ltd employs more than sixty staff and has restored some of the world’s most important cars including many famous Jaguars.

The company has become an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT), which means that the staff will own and run the business themselves.

Peter Neumark, who has owned and chaired the company since its inception in 1993, said: "I am nearer seventy than sixty and Nick Goldthorp, who founded this great business with me and has been largely responsible for where we are today, is now approaching retirement age, so we felt we had a duty to oversee a passing of responsibility, and who better than the workforce themselves."

So on Friday 26th of August 2016, a majority shareholding owned by the chairman was transferred into a new entity The Classic Motor Cars Ltd Employee Shareholder Trust, thereby passing control to a trust set up for the benefit of the employees of CMC.

Peter Neumark added: “This sort of structure best exemplified by the John Lewis Partnership was deemed to be the best home for the company to ensure its future, safeguarding the jobs of its highly skilled workforce and providing stability for future growth and prosperity.

The day to day management of the business will be controlled by an operational board, chaired by David Barzilay and comprising of Managing Director Tim Leese, Production Director Tim Griffin, non-execs Nick Goldthorp and Richard Charlesworth (latterly of Bentley).

They in turn will report to a board of trustees who are responsible for the good governance of the company and ensuring it is run in the best interests of its beneficiaries, the employees.

The board of trustees is comprised of outside professionals, chaired by Peter Neumark with an employee trustee, Luke Martin, voted on by his fellow workers, and former non-exec operational board member Richard Coe.

Currently the company is working on more than 22 classic car restorations including many famous marques such as, Aston Martin, Jaguar and Lancia, amongst others.

Classic Car Auctions finishes the year with a raft of special cars and a rare, last made for UK SAAB 96L Souvenir V4.

A very special and rare 1978 Saab 96L Souvenir V4, the very last made for the UK market, will be going under the hammer next weekend in Classic Car Auctions’ (CCA) Christmas Sale, taking place on Saturday 5^thDecember at the Warwickshire Exhibition Centre, Leamington Spa.

This important 1978 Saab is number 150 of 150 right-hand drive model 96 V4s produced for the UK, with a certificate present from Saab themselves to confirm this. It has covered a mere 3,010 miles from new in total, with the present vendor enjoying a pleasurable 1,000 miles of these.

This Saab 96L is in amazing, factory original condition throughout with the Cardinal Red paint, unique to this last UK batch of cars, gleaming. Said to drive perfectly with everything working, including its free-wheel, the vendor enthusiastically informs us it has also won Club show awards on its rare outings.

The individual looking and innovative Saab 96 was in production for 13 years and was renowned for its strength and design attributes, all well highlighted by International Rally successes in the hands of the recently late, great Eric Carlsson.

Other low-mileage classics joining the Saab at the auction include a barn find 1980 MGB, with just one registered keeper and showing just 181 miles from new, and a brightly coloured, highly original 1975 Volkswagen 1300 Beetle showing just 8,762 miles.

Also offered is a fantastically original 1977 Mini Clubman that has covered just 8,703 miles. Originally sold on 14th October 1977, the car was resold on 28th April 1978 to a friend of the original owner. Garaged in 1985 when she stopped driving, the car was put away and never used again.

Commenting on the sale next weekend, CCA general manager, Guy Lees-Milne said: “We have a fantastic selection of single ownership, low mileage classics on offer in our final sale of the year. Cars with history like this always prove in high demand at auction and therefore we expect a lot of interest.”

The first production right hand drive 1967 TR5 Roadster is to be sold by leading classic car restorers Classic Motor Cars

The first production right hand drive 1967 TR5 Roadster is to be sold by leading classic car restorers Classic Motor Cars (CMC).

This incredibly special car was the first TR5 P1 to be built on the normal assembly line, and is one of only 1,100 to be produced, carrying with it an indisputable history.

Manufactured on the 29th August 1967 by Standard Triumph Motor Company Limited, the car went into the Press Fleet, as well as appearing at the Earls Court motor show of that year.

The production of TR5s lasted a 13 month period, between August 1967 and September 1968.  They were built with a 2.5 litre straight-6-fuel-injected engine, developing around 145 hp.  Fuel injection was incredibly rare in road cars in 1967, causing Triumph to claim that this was the “First British production sports car with petrol injection”.

Managing Director of CMC, Nick Goldthorp said: “This TR5 is in very original condition throughout, having been serviced and maintained to a high standard throughout the last 48 years. A comprehensive and detailed history file confirms the provenance of this distinctive and historic car, which will certainly be a great addition to any car collection.”

The car is unique both inside and out, boasting an interior that has been upheld to an impressive standard over the years.  The car’s mechanics have been rebuilt using only genuine Stanpart parts where needed.  Furthermore, all the parts that have been replaced over time are accompanied by their respective documents, confirming their authenticity.

This iconic car is finished in the exterior colour of Valencia Blue with Black Ambala interior, and is being sold for £79,500.

It will be on display at the Classic & Sports Car show at Alexandra Palace, Stand H100, from Friday 30th October to Sunday 1st November.

The original Jaguar Xj12-C Broadspeed used in the New Avengers by John Steed smashes target by over £50k

The original Jaguar XJ12-C Broadspeed that appeared in the cult 1970’s TV series, The New Avengers, has sold at auction today for £62,000 – some £50,000 over initial estimates.

The iconic Jaguar, driven by secret agent John Steed (played by Patrick Macnee) in the hit series, began life as a pre-production prototype vehicle for the marque. Bought by a private collector at the H&H Classics’ auction at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford, Cambridge, the XJ12-C completed its early development and testing work with Jaguar before being sent to Broadspeed Engineering Ltd. to be fitted with upgraded bodykit including wider bumpers and wheelarches plus bigger wheels and tyres in preparation for filming.

The car wears chassis number eight (2G1008BW) and features the original 5.3-litre V12 engine that powered secret agent Steed’s British sportscar during the 26-episode series.

Following the series finale in 1977, ‘NWK 60P’ was then sold and passed through the hands of multiple keepers and eventually put up for auction at the NEC Classic Car Show in the early 1990s. After the sale, the famous Jaguar disappeared from public view and remained in hibernation for the next two decades – during which time the car has been subjected to vandalism and general disrepair.

Tim Hannig, Managing Director, Jaguar Heritage, said: “There is no arguing about the desirability of this iconic Jaguar. The XJ12-C Broadspeed still looks fantastic today and although the condition of NWK 60P has deteriorated over the 20 years its been locked up, it still shows how the demand for Jaguar Heritage models has increased in recent times along with their values. We hope to see the car back on the road in the near future and we will continue to support owners of cars such as this famous XJ12-C through our Jaguar Heritage business.”

Steed, Gambit, Purdey: cult fantasy secret agent series The New Avengers was one of the hits of the mid-1970s. But the other star alongside Patrick Macnee, Gareth Hunt and Joanna Lumley was this 1976 Jaguar XJ-C 12, now for sale at H&H Classics on 14 October 2015 with the very modest estimate of just £10,000 to £12,000.

John Steed's famous Jag, in Racing Green, was the eighth XJ-C 12 made and originally an experimental model featuring a Broadspeed body kit and extra-wide wheels fitted for the TV series.

Dry-stored for many years and now in need of restoration, it comes to the market as a dream project for someone who loves a ‘barn-find’.

There can be very few British cars that speak more eloquently of the automotive culture of the UK in the 1970s than this burly, rakish, cool brute that was John Steed’s Big Cat.

This smooth secret agent was well matched by the equally elegant but tweaked, tuned and pumped up version of Jag’s pillarless XJ Coupé that boasted a dozen cylinders offering 5.3 litres.

Driven by an elegant man in Savile Row tailoring and a bowler hat, the car, gritty Gambit and purring Purdey were perfect foils for him and the oh-so-British action.

The star of the show is an as-new Porsche 911 Supersport, with just 743km on the clock – just one of five stunning cars to come from one very meticulous collector.

The owner has had all five since new in Germany and the vehicles - Lots 201 to 205 – have just arrived on UK shores. They will open proceedings at Salon Privé, presenting buyers with a unique opportunity to bid on these ultra-low mileage, left-hand-drive models from Mercedes-Benz, Daimler and Porsche.

First under the hammer is one of the most immaculate examples of the Mercedes-Benz 280SE ever seen. Given the model’s popularity during the 1980s, it is rare to find one with such little use; however, this particular model registered in 1985 has covered just 5,700km during its lifetime. 

All registration, service and maintenance work is documented, along with the original order form, and presents an ideal opportunity to own a unique ‘nearly-new’, 30-year-old car.

Like its saloon brethren, this Mercedes-Benz 560SEC was also an ‘80s icon and majored on luxury and style. 

This particular car was first registered in 1986 and supplied new to Germany where it covered a mere 38,000km. All original factory paperwork and service history verify the car’s excellent condition.

Supplied new in Germany in 1975, this rare manual Mercedes-Benz 280SLC has just 16,500km on the clock. 

As a result, this car boasts an immaculate red leather interior and unmarked white paintwork. A large history file containing all documentation for its entire 40-year history is included and offered without reserve.

An altogether different prospect is a 1988 Daimler Double Six Series III. Three standout highlights are central to the car’s appeal, including an individual specification Nardi steering wheel, a full respray in Metallic Blue and magnificent chrome wire wheels. 

This Daimler has travelled just 3,297km since new and the overall condition is impeccable. It’s surely one of the finest examples of the marque ever seen.
